  1. Can you guys share your experience with disk sleep on the Helios64 + Armbian. In my case I haven't seen the disks sleep - they are always spinning (or so they seem) and never on standby. I have a standalone /dev/sda and a RAID5 array with disks /dev/sd[b-e] (created with mdadm) - and XFS formatted logical volumes on top of these. 'iotop' says that nothing is accessing the disks: 'hdparm -B /dev/sd[a-z]' after each reboot is always: sudo hdparm -B /dev/sd[a-e] /dev/sda: APM_level = 254 /dev/sdb: APM_level = off /dev/sdc: APM_level = off /dev/sdd: APM_level = off /dev/sde: APM_level = off 'hdparm -C /dev/sd[a-z]' …

Nanopi Neo 3 is typically offered in 1GB or 2GB DDR4 RAM versions, but the RK3328 datasheet says the RK3328 can support up to 4GB If I were to source 2x 2GB of the supported types could I resolder to increase RAM? 3. Hello Armbian Team, I am experiencing some difficulties with my Orange Pi 5 Ultra. Currently, there is no Armbian distribution available for this board. Although official Debian/Ubuntu images are provided on the Orange Pi website, none of them include the latest NPU driver (RKNPU 0.9.8). Since Orange Pi 5 Ultra has hardware similarities with Orange Pi 5 Max, I was wondering if it would be possible to release an Armbian version for this board as well. An official Armbian release would be highly beneficial for developers and users who require a stable and optimized OS for this hardware. Would it be possible to consider adding support for Oran…

  5. I tried armbian-config -> System -> Other All available options are those 4.4.213-rk3399 with different Armbian versions 20.08.x. I'm currently on 20.08.9 Appreciated any step, pointer Thank you

  6. I've got an OrangePi based on the Rockchip RK3399. The official OrangePi Debian version I'm using is Armbian-based I believe and uses a 5.10 kernel. I want to upgrade the kernel as later ones support some video features of the RK3399 I want to use. The problem is, if I build the kernel using the standard vanilla method from kernel.org sources even using the same config file from the running kernel without changing anything (make olddefconfig), the device won't boot when I symlink the new kernel to /boot/Image. Interestingly, it does boot if I symlink the new initrd to /boot/uInitrd, but only with the old kernel. Is there something special I need to do to the k…

  9. Hi, I had some issues regarding WireGuard that are solved now. Since my armbian release already contains wireguard I have no need to install it. However I wanted to prevent any future mistake rendering my installation unbootable. So after some searching and experimenting I did the following: In order to block a package a file must be created in /etc/apt/preferences.d/ , in my case I called it wireguard $ sudo tee /etc/apt/preferences.d/wireguard &>/dev/null <<EOF Package: wireguard Pin: release * Pin-Priority: -1 EOF This is what it looks like now when trying to install the package: $ sudo apt install wireguard Reading…

I also went to the Realtek website and tried to compile the proper drivers for it, however, the Make process always fails. Do you have any suggestions as to how to get this to work? The adaptor says it is supported on the Armbian website. Thanks!

  12. Hello, I have a Rock64 V2 which I am using as a Tvheadend server, among other stuff. For some months I put the kernel/dtb packages on hold, because I discovered that linux-image-rockchip64 after version 5.75 did not include the kernel module for th USB DVB-T stick I need (an EyeTV DVB-T device, i.e. a clone of Hauppauge), that is dvb-usb-dib0700 or the like (I am trying to remember). I have recently unhold the Linux packages and let apt to update them. Now at version 5.90, I see that the kernel module is still not included, and my USB device cannot be used. Going back to Linux image 5.75 makes the stick to work again, but I'd like to have the lates…

  14. I am still trying unsuccessfully to get the sound through the rt5651 codec using the main line kernel (I use NanoPC-T4). I corrected the dts/dtb file and assembled the kernel module. The kernel performs i2s bus and codec switching. The corresponding audio device appears on the system. I start a alsamixer. I can change settings. When I change some settings, I can even hear clicks in the dynamic. So the codec chip is powered up. And the codec chip is controlled through the i2c bus. I can switch the audio output through the codec. But there is no sound. I can 't figure out what the reason is. The dts/dtb files for main line kernel and rockchip 4.4.xxx kernel are slightly dif…

I have a strange problem with my R2S. I grabbed latest buster and focal images, burned them using Balena Etcher onto a pair of 32GB SanDisk Extreme Cards and neither is booting. Serial console shows that boot process gives up waiting for root file system and drops me into initramfs shell. Looking into /dev, I see no mmcblk0 device (or any other block device apart from loops). If I now eject and re-insert the card, the device shows up. If I do it during boot process, while the board is still waiting for rootfs, boot process continues correctly. Reboots are fine, but if I unplug the board for longer than a second it's back to initramfs for me. …

    The armbian edge image for the FriendlyElec CM3588-NAS is currently on kernel 6.17 but has no HDMI audio despite it having been added in 6.15 (I think). This is simply because it has not been enabled in the device tree for this board. You can enable it with this user overlay: /dts-v1/; /plugin/; / { fragment@0 { target-path = "/hdmi0-sound"; __overlay__ { status = "okay"; }; }; fragment@1 { target-path = "/hdmi1-sound"; __overlay__ { status = "okay"; }; }; };

  27. Hi, I have started to work on a Nanopi Neo3 Plus image (rk3528-based, similar to Nanopi Zero2), announced early March 2026. Created a new .csc file, used the Nanopi Zero2 as a template. Built it with the vendor version. Built it with the vendor kernel., but added the "dt" directory with the rk3528-nanopi-rev02.dts to be "automatically" added to the dts directory and Makefile. The base console version seems to work ok when I generate a bookworm image. As I currently only need u-boot, kernel and dtb's to build my own OS (Volumio, volumio.org), it works for me. Of course, I would like to contribute my work (and support it?), but how do I …

  28. I loaded both the Raxda Debian OS and the Armbian OS on the Rock Pi 4A+ (4GB RAM / 32GB eMMC) integrated eMMC chip and both boot fine. I then ran the Phoronix pts/scikit-learn benchmark and got a big discrepancy in performance: https://openbenchmarking.org/result/2112285-NE-2112281NE08 The Raxda Debian OS (noted as rockpi4a+raxdadebian in the benchmark) performs basically the same as the Rock Pi 4A version (noted as rockpi4-rk3399 running Armbian), as expected. The Armbian OS (tested multiple times as rockpi4a-emmc, rockpi4a+, rockpi4a+governor, and rockpi4a+armbian) all perform terribly. Thoughts?

  45. Thank you for sharing the link. Inspired me to write an overlay for my NanoPC-T4. Now I can attach an additional monitor via my Delock 63959 USB-C to VGA / HDMI / DVI / DisplayPort Adapter with 5.10.0.

  46. U-boot defaults to "In: serial" and also listens for packets (its assumed that its a keyboard/terminal) so that a keypress can stop autoboot. I am successfully using /dev/ttyS2 after modifying /boot/armbianEnv.txt (Console=Display) and masking the gettyS2 service. The device/system I have connected to UART2 (/dev/ttyS2) periodically sends bytes. Thus, if a remote restart or a cold boot is performed (power glitch or power reset) while that system is connected to UART2, it triggers the abort of Autoboot. Requiring the other system/device to be disconnected from UART2, a cold boot of the RockPi4 and then reconnection of the system/device to UART2. I…

Hello, Some weeks ago, I installed the "under development" version. File was named Armbian_22.11.0-trunk_Odroidm1_kinetic_edge_6.1.0-rc5.img.xz Now, I see that the "advertised" version is a rolling release armbian 22.11 Jammy. Based on this (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases) page kinetic is an earlier version than jammy. If I scroll down the page ( https://www.armbian.com/odroid-m1/ ) , I see a kinetic rolling weekly release. I suspect that the kinetic is an unstabled release while Jammy 22.11 is. Please can you confirm/explain? If yes, is there a way to "downgrade" to the stable version? Thanks …

Hi guys, sorry if this question might sound stupid, but how do I open the M3 enclosure? There is no instruction in the manual, nor on the stationpc website. I just bought this little box and I am not sure if this has some screws or some other closing system. I can see the four rubber buffers on the bottom of the box, but I don't want to harm those without reason. Can anyone tell me how to disassemble the box? Thanks in advance.

  49. Greetings, I have multiple NanoPi NEO3s on the same subnet. When booting with Ubuntu 20.04.6 LTS they use the physical MAC address when posting to DHCP, but ARMbian seems to create a default (fake) MAC address and uses that instead. Judging by the "armbianmonitor -U" output, ARMbian knows about the physical MAC address, it just doesn't use it. The NEO3 board is listed as supported, but there is another posting dated 2020 that still seems to be unresolved. MAC address c2:1f:b3:b0:d2:41 seems to be a generic (fake) address that is being used. Is there a remedy to allow it to use the actual hardware address with this kernel ? -- -- -- brack…

Hello, Recently I tried to make pwm control on my Nanopi M4. Beside the PWM pin on the 24 pin connector (the one which actually controls the voltage output on 12V 2 pin connector for fan), I wonder if it is possible to use GPIO pins on the 40 pin connector as pwm pins to control fans. I tried to set pwmchip0 and literally checked every pin by connecting the wire to each one of them but I couldn't find that any othe these GPIO react on any settings I made on pwmchip0 pwm0. Does anyone know how to do this? Best Regards.

  58. Hi, I would like to share my recent work: a cheap USB Audio Class 1.0 (UAC) input to UAC 2.0 output converter. For folks that may not understand why I have this crazy idea, here is the background: For some shitty reasons, PS5 does not support outputting audio through certain USB sound card, and that is because PS5 only supports very old USB sound card (UAC 1.0), and usually high end speakers or sound cards would use newer, better UAC 2.0 protocol. So, this shitty thing happens to me, when I thought my EDIFIER S880 speaker would be a plus for my gaming experience. EDIFIER S880 has a UAC 2.0 in input source, so my PS5 does not support that. So, what I …

Linux Hell64 5.8.17-rockchip64 #20.08.21 SMP PREEMPT Sat Oct 31 08:22:59 CET 2020 aarch64 GNU/Linux I've been testing the performance and comparing to another NAS I have (WD PR4100) and the Helios64 performance has not been fairing well. Setup are almost identical on the same switch connected gig ethernet. Using SAMBA ,NO Raid. Testing with SATA drives HD's previously formatted for NTFS. and UAS USB 8 Bay DAS. Reading from Helios64 to Windows 10 PC I achieve expected 113MB/s and from USB attached to Helios 110MB/s. Writing speeds are very poor and as can be expected worse on the directly attached USB DAS. 90. I got my box yesterday and assembled it (looks gorgeous, and reasonably easy to assemble). Without external power and with battery connected, green led 1 is on. With external power, orange led 9 in addition to that. FTDI chip is recognized regardless of power status, I can connect to the console. After pressing power button, green LEDs 2 and 3 and blue LEDs 4 and 5 light up immediately, and after that nothing else happens. Nothing on the serial console, no LEDs change status. Tried disconnecting the battery. Then without external power, all LEDs are dark (but FTDI chip is still visible), with external power orange LED 9 blinks, the rest is exactly the …

hi, I am running newest armbian for NEO3. I've noticed that when I issue poweroff command armbian shuts down correctly, but the CPU (with heatsink) remains hot. I left my board for 2 days in poweroff state and it remained 'warm' all the time. Is there something that can be done to put CPU to sleep before shutting down system (or some low power state) ?

  93. I deal with a problem I cant solve with installing my usb printer Samsung ML-2160. CUPS recognise it but it doesn't have the exact driver (it recomends ML-2152WPS I think, but it doesn't work as I cant print anything after the the installation) I tried from HP download directly a ULD but when I try to run the install.sh it gives a message about ARM architecture expected (although there is a directory for ARM architecture under the install.sh file) Any ideas?

  95. Hi, I try to get my NanoPC-T4 a second life. Therefore I want to (re-) install Armbian but I'm stuck Andi don't know why. I uses USBFlasher to flash the minimal Armbian on it (tried compressed and uncompressed) but the green blinking light indicates me, that he found no bootable device. I tried different images as well. Also differen SD cards, even DietPi image, always the same. The only thing which runs instant is one of the eflasher Images of FriendlyARM. I also tried to change the image that the eflasher writes to the eMMC (by copy the uncompressed .img file to the SD card and renamed it to armbian.raw and changed the config file as the wiki said)…

First time user here. I got a Rock64 board and flashed Armbian_20.08.1_Rock64_focal_current_5.8.6_desktop.img using Etcher to an SD card. When I try to boot, nothing happens. If I examine the SD card on my Linux PC, there is only one partition on it and it appears to be a kernel image. I assumed that the .img file would have the U-Boot partition as well. Is there a different type of image file I should be using that would contain everything that I need to boot? If not, how do I create such an image?

THE OFFICIAL ROCKCHIP-LEGACY MULTIMEDIA INTEGRATION After two years of using a separate script to enable the multimedia features in RK3399 Legacy Kernel, the whole framework has been incorporated to the official Armbian packaging system.
