  1. Been dreaming of this one for a while. Finally got a weekend to focus on it recently. I'm hoping someone is eager to take what I've done and move It along some more. Here's what we have so far. * a linux 'family' called virtual.conf * a kernel config called linux-virtual-current.config * a board called virtual-qemu.wip The result is a full HVM accelerated armbian image with a kernel compiled with all the virtio drivers for disk, network and video. Also a u-boot.bin made for qemu that can boot the image when used as the qemu bios/firmware I've ran it as a VM on ubuntu using plain qemu on a Ampere eMag box.. and using UTM (qem…

  2. Hi all, In the review of the Fire3 at least one person mentions powering this board via something other than the MicroUSB. This would allow me to use the serial console that's supposedly exposed over that port instead of wiring up yet another USB to serial converter. What I can't work out is a) which pin/s are used to power it, and b) what kind of power supply is used. I'd rather not fry the board (it'll do that itself under load) so can someone point me in the right direction? Thanks in advance.

  3. Just wondering if anyone has booted the latest cubox-i test images with kernel 4.9.5 ? I tried the last couple of days with no joy; however I have not got around to full logs / troubleshooting. It looks like it is getting into u-boot OK but then not finding the dtb and drops to the u-boot shell.

  4. Until yesterday my humminboard 1 i2ex worked without any flaws. Now after a restart I cannot access it via ssh anymore. I thought the Ip adress my have changed somehow cause I also restarted my router but it under active clients in router webif either. Also no video output via hdmi...guess that's normal since it's a debian server image. What I can see is the uboot showing up the count down, just quick, I could read ..wrong image format..and something with source.. that's it. Then screen turns black. I have the rootfs on msata ssd and if I remember correctly I removed all other unnecessary files from micro sd card many month ago. I…

  6. Hi: I recently installed Buster xfce desktop on Cubox i4pro. Everything works great, except I can not power off cubox. I tried various commands, shutdown -h now; systemctl poweroff; and hatl; but the system first appears to halt, where I can not ping the ip addrss of cubox, but then it reboots. Is there some way to powerfoff cubox? My current system is nightly, but I also tried stable with latest kernel. $ uname -r 5.10.21-imx6 $ cat /etc/os-release PRETTY_NAME="Armbian 21.08.0-trunk.26 Buster"

  9. Hello, Recently I bought a nanopi fire 3 and installed armbian without any issue (Armbian_5.91_Nanopifire3_Debian_buster_next_4.14.133). The first thing I did was to connect the nanopi to my ADSL router in order to complete the basic configuration. Everything worked fine. Then I connected the nanopi to an Edimax gigabit ethernet switch and here is where the network problems appeared. The ethernet connection was too slow, with ping times of more than 1000ms, and an unstable behavior that made it almost impossible to connect via ssh. 64 bytes from 192.168.22.12: icmp_seq=1 ttl=64 time=1004 ms 64 bytes from 192.168.22.12: icmp_seq=2 ttl=64 time=1…

  10. Hey All, First, a big thank you to Igor and all who work hard to get armbian out to the masses Second, setting NODM_ENABLED=false NODM_USER=some_user in /etc/default/nodm as per the instructions here: http://www.armbian.com/documentation/ - section 'How to login?' doesn't seem to work for me on my cubox i4pro. I turns out that /etc/default/nodm gets overwritten with the default root values on each boot. This causes lightDM to misbehave and bugger up the Xserver. I see Xcursor drawing artefacts and the LightDM UI widgets poke through into the root autologin desktop. Even without lightDM installed and /etc/default/nodm set as follows: …

  11. Hi. I had to force my way through the upgrade script working. I haven't rebooted yet, but I'm crossing my fingers . Here are the three issues: 1. cubox-i shows as "unsupported" and the script dies. /proc/cpuinfo shows: Hardware : Freescale i.MX6 ... ...which isn't in the list in the script. 2. The script crashes and can't handle the situation where the apt-get upgrade prompts you about configuration files. For example, my /etc/bash.bashrc was different than the packaged version. The script won't take input and hangs. I see the "-y" in the script, but for some reason it doesn't seem to work right. 3. /boot/script.bin - a symlink is made to a none…

  12. Hi. I have a bunch of HummingBoard2 boards that have been used by a company called Vivo. Basically they allow schools to transfer video through Ethernet to monitors and projectors. I also want to do this but Vivi is a subscription based system so that SUX! I therefore want to blow Vivi away and load a clean Armbian. My issue is that the boards have no SD cards soldered to the board. They have power, 2xUSB, RJ45, HDMI connectors. They must therefore boot from eMMC. I found info on the board manufactures website., SolidRun, on how to use jumpers to select boot type. It was set to eMMC so I set it to USB and flashed a SD card with Armbian 20.20 and rebooted…

  13. I am using your Debian (wheezy) on a SolidRun Hummingboard-i2eX. uname -a Linux cubox-i 3.14.14-cubox-i #2 SMP Mon Aug 31 19:36:11 CDT 2015 armv7l GNU/Linux In /dev, it looks like there are two IMX serial devices: ls -l /dev/ttymxc* crw-rw---T 1 root dialout 207, 16 Feb 4 2001 /dev/ttymxc0 crw-rw---T 1 root dialout 207, 19 Feb 4 2001 /dev/ttymxc3 I can send/receive data from /dev/ttymxc0 (uart1) by using pin 8 (Tx) and pin 10 (Rx) of the 26-pin header on the board. But how can I access /dev/ttymxc3 (uart4)? Is there a pin somewhere on the board that I can connect to so I that I can send serial input to uart4? Thank you.

  14. Hello, all, I am trying to confirm the actual status of UART support on the Banana Pi BPI-R4. Does the hardware UART work reliably and appear as a character device (e.g., /dev/uart*) under Armbian Linux? Also, what is the maximum baud rate supported by this port? And one more question: Does Armbian support the Quectel EP06 modem (LTE, mini PCIe)? Thank you in advance, SY, Serge

Anyone get ArduinoIDE working on armbian for the Udoo quad? 19. Hi Igor, Thanks for your great work with Armbian. I'm currently using your Armbian4.90 for my Hummingboard Edge v2 (dual), as the newest that does not hang on PCIe initialization. Unfortunately, the OV5640 MIPI module is not compiled in this version (it is compiled in all later versions of kernel 3.14.60). Have you kept an archive all the versions of your kernel source? Is there any way to get it so we can add and compile a specific module? Of course, I would prefer if the latest 3.14 kernel could not hang with the PCIe adapter initializing, but this seems to be a pretty difficult issue... I tried the latest one available on the official Armbian site (5.00)…

  20. Hi there! I recently installed Armbian (Stretch: Armbian_5.83_Nanopifire3_Debian_stretch_next_4.14.115) on my new NanoPi Fire3. I was able to boot, but it responds so slow, that it is unusable! For example, when I SSH into it, it takes a log time to show me the login prompt. When I enter the username and press enter, it takes about 5 seconds to ask me for password. When I enter password, it takes about 10 seconds to show me the Armbian banner. I wasn't even able to go past the changing of unix password on first login, because it just "froze". I have installed the image twice on my SD card, just to make sure it isn't a corrupted install.…

Hi, I'm trying to generate an Armbian image for a custom board. I generated configuration files for card and family, with the necessary information for u-boot and kernel. I need to have separate boot partition in FAT and I added BOOTFS_TYPE="fat". Using the compile.sh in the Armbian "build" repo I get an image, but flashing it on the sdcard does not start uboot. In the boot partition I find not only the kernel and dtb, but also the u-boot scripts. How do you generate an image that contains everything correctly? Thanks in advance Riccardo

  23. Hello, I have recently tried a more recent kernel 5.10.x for my HummingBoard with imx6 solo. Foreward: Not sure if this better fits in board bring up, but I can't post there, so feel free to move if appropriate. I'm looking into the feasibility of using the Armbian build system to generate OS images for the Avnet MicroZed board. This board is based on the Xilinx Zynq 7000 platform, which is a SoC made up of a dual core 500 MHz CPU, and a Artix-7 generation FPGA. The CPU is nothing to write home about, but the FPGA opens up an interesting array of possibilities. Just in case you need an ARM board with 100+ GPIO, over two dozen serial ports, or your own function generator. Really, you're limited only by pin count, FPGA fabric usage, and what you can man…

When I boot with armbian/Linux5.10, which is linux-image-current-jetson-nano, the display tells me it is out of sync then I would force the display as 1280x1024@60Hz, since it looks like Linux fb or X11 are trying to use 1280x1024@75Hz, so that I need edid/1280x1024.bin (maybe with video=1280x1024@60) using {linux-source}/tools/edid to maintain the resolution and sync. I tried both of gcc-10 and gcc-9 to build it, but failed with below error: edid.S: Assembler messages: edid.S:274: Error: cannot represe…

  49. So I downloaded Armbian Stretch image here https://www.armbian.com/hummingboard-2/ and dd it onto an SD Card. As it didn't produce any output during boot after 'uncompressing kernel' I had to add 'console=both' into the armbianEnv.txt. After that I could see that I land into (initramfs). It looked like it couldn't see the rootfs for some reason. So additionally I've changed rootdev to 'rootdev=/dev/mmcblk0p1' in the armbianEnv.txt. Still the same problem here is the full boot log https://pastebin.com/K64xKHBd What am I doing wrong? 2. Provided that the problem above is easy to fix, how do I start a script after the first boot? I've installed the drivers from this post http://forum.solid-run.com/linux-on-cubox-i-and-hummingboard-f8/about-opengl-drivers-and-binary-blobs-packages-for-t2013.html With both versions of debian (armbian and the official) ./configure can't find these drivers, all I get is "dummy" for the video driver. With arch linux there were no problems at all, it worked right out of the box. Does someone have a hint for me. This is my last hope. Thanks in advance McCarthy

  91. Hi, If you think that Solid-run Cubox-i kernel branch is becoming outdated, you can use a mainline linux kernel with the following enablement patches: Russell King home dir: http://www.home.arm.linux.org.uk/~rmk/cubox/?C=M;O=D Grab the most recent hummingboard-cubox-i DIFF big patch and patch it into your vanilla 4.1 kernel source dir. Then use a default config appropiate for a Cubox-i / Hummingboard: # make imx_v6_v7_defconfig hope it helps

Hello I downloaded Armbian for a CuBox i4P from https://redirect.armbian.com/region/EU/cubox-i/Bionic_current_desktop. uname -a reports: Linux cubox-i 5.10.12-imx6 #21.02.1 SMP Wed Feb 3 21:02:35 CET 2021 armv7l armv7l armv7l GNU/Linux However this image is working really fine, for a 7yo hardware. Thank you, Developers 2D software rendering is fast, Desktop windows are transparent. Great work! I tried Armbian Focal desktop mainline first, but it didnt show the desktop never again after first reboot, so i was happy with Bionic! Found similar problem here and i think i just need the correct xorg driver. Thanks for a…

  93. Started by AndrewZ,

I've recently upgraded Armbian on my Cubox-i using apt, i.e. that was not a new clean install. As a result I still have an old kernel running. What is the right way to upgrade kernel? Edit: updated using armbian-config, everything seems to be ok.

  94. Started by dudepron,

Trying to debug this issue. Everything was fine until a recent reboot and now the box is stuck in a boot loop with any supported image downloaded from armbian. I've been focused with debian but the ubuntu doesn't work either. I have tried 3 different microSD cards (samsung and SanDisk) with the same result. I've tried the steps in https://docs.armbian.com/User-Guide_Basic-Troubleshooting/ https://docs.armbian.com/User-Guide_Recovery/ but it appears that the there is something going on with the Linux kernel? changing the verbosity doesn't provide any new information. I have even tried 20.05.1 and still the same behavior. Any though…

  98. Started by Superkoning,

I installed Armbian_5.59_Cubox-i_Debian_stretch_next_4.14.66 on my Cubox-i. Boots nicely, but ethernet is not working. The ethernet cable/connection is working, because the cable does work via and ethernet-to-usb connector to the same cubox. EDIT: Oh, I must say that ethernet-to-usb is fast etnernet, not GigE /EDIT Dmesg included. Plus dmesg | grep network stuff. Tips how to proceed? root@cubox:~# cat dmesg.cubox.no-eth.txt | grep -i -e eth -e netw [ 0.793426] fec 2188000.ethernet: 2188000.ethernet supply phy not found, using dummy regulator [ 0.806213] fec 2188000.ethernet eth0: registered PHC device 0 [ 10.900568] A…

  99. Thought this module was included in the kernel. I can install the iscsi client software, but obviously, no good without the module. Will it be included in the future? Cheers

  100. When cubox is configured to run wifi, it takes 60+ seconds for it to start up with no network cable plugged in. Where as when I plug in a network cable to the network port it will start up under 10 seconds. Hardware: Cubox-i4 Pro Running Ubuntu Trusty image found here: http://www.armbian.com/cubox-i/ Any advice would be appreciated.
