All the steps described by @SteeMan are fine. The details are the particularities of each TV BOX, in case of Brazil, the box are the low quality and price (the cheapest box of the market). I had many difficulties with a RUPA A9 Diamond with S912. Initially, the problem was the network, so I created new dtb´s files based in a post of someone. All the steps are described here: linux_variety/notes.txt at master · claudiosa/linux_variety · GitHub some steps to generate dtb and dts Later, the sound was not working, fortunately I tried some others dtb without the procedure describe above, i.e. without network. Fortunately, the first experiment with "MeCool K…

Hi everyone, long term lurker to this site, however I see a whole trend in S905X Android TV boxes with sound issues. As far as I understand the SPDIF and AV ports are not supported with Armbian, however, HDMI Audio is I think. My box Rupa Pyramid A5x with the Amlogic S905X CPU boots great, followed the guides to the letter. Graphics are great, performance is as expected, 4K video is a little struggle sometimes, I suspect this is Firefox though, I actually use this same box for many years as a headless Plex/Docker server and it was amazing for this! I mean really really good. 4/5/6 steams at the same time to TVs, iPads, phones and then some more!. The issue I a…

Hi, I have installed Armbian on an SD card and can successfully boot from SD by holding reset button during power plug. Given that it is not possible to install Armbian to eMMC on S905, is it possible at least to make it always boot from SD?

Long story short -- I was dumb and attempted to install armbian to the emmc on my s905 box because reading is hard. So now I have a box that won't boot. I have the original firmware image, which will restore the boot partition (from what I understand, this is the problem with s905s now, though I distinctly remember running debian on this via the emmc in the past, but that's a tangent that doesn't matter if I can't get it to boot anything). I have it connected via usb/ttl uart and can send commands. But what commands do I send? The amlogic usb burning tool doesn't see this box via usb, but if I run `usb start` it finds one usb device (presumably my …

Hello, i have m96x max tvbox on s906x cpu, i install armbian and all fine works. But. Sometimes when tvbox power turns off and i power on - it won't boot. At monitor i can't see nothing, black screen, monitor go to sleeping mode. This can happen after 2-3 sometimes 5-6 incorrect shutdowns. To fix the problem i disconnect my usb-hub and wifi dongle, insert SD-card with Armbian - and voila, tvbox boot ok from sd card. I see on the monitor until the boot is complete and turn it off by pulling the power out of the outlet. Then i unplug SD card, connect the usb hub and the wifi dongle and turn ON it, boot from the internal memory goes fine. This solution always saves the day, b…

@hexdumpI have a s905x box with secure boot enabled, I can run armbian from usb drive with your chainload uboot, and trying to run it on emmc. It looks like both chainloaded mainline uboot and armbian cannot find any partitions from emmc. My box have secure boot enabled so there is no way to replace the original u-boot. I have no idea how to deal with that.

Hi I have x96 box with s905x cpu, a long time ago i flashed it with libreelec and it was running from emmc only without a problem. Now flashed armbian to emmc but bootloader works only from usb or sdcard (cannot see mmc). Tried images s905x and s905x-t95 - same result. Is this a result of some misconfiguration/image selection or ..? Currently using sdcard for boot partition only as workaround.

I have an OTT TV Box, model ABOX-A1 ( 1G + 8G, S905X ). Inside it looks very similar to NEXBOX A95X. When it starts up while connected to a Protron PLTV-26 TV, the TV EDID gets changed. This happens both with the original Android and when booting Armbian. I don't think it's due to Armbian. I wonder if it is due to startup code on eMMC or SOC ROM. The changes happen at every startup and are always the same. It writes a 1 at EEPROM offset 2, and a 0 at offset 0x20. Normally, the EDID EEPROM chip is at I2C address 0x50, and many devices write protect it. On this TV it responds to addresses from 0x50 to 0x57 according to i2cdetect, and it is not write protected. T…

Hello everyone, I read a lot of threads regarding my problem but couldn't find the solution. Could someone kindly help me? I have a TVbox with S905x and Android installed, I would like to install armbian, I downloaded the ISO, renamed the u-boot file for S905x to u-boot.ext and modified the file "/extlinux/extlinux.conf" leaving only the line without comment with S905x. When I do "update" from Android it makes me choose a .zip file, copy something and then reboot. Unfortunately, however, the system restarts with Android as if nothing had happened. What am I wrong? Thank you very much.

Hi, this is my first post so please be generous. After much experimentation I have managed to to set up Armbian on an old Zidoo x5 box. I may add that neither the .zip or the toothpick method worked for me but finally got the booting sequence to run the S905 Autoscript by altering some variables using the setenv command through the serial interface. I have installed several OS's and finally settled on the 20.10 focal 5.9.0 desktop image. Most things work but I am getting problems with setting up an Access Point through the armbian-config program. I have left the default settings as proposed and was able to "see" the hot spot…

Hi all, I just managed to install Armbian to my Minix Neo U1 on sd card. I read the faq and found that installing on eMMC is better than on sd card because eMMC is faster and more durable. Now I'm curious that if I'm booting from eMMC: 1. How can I boot from sd card again? Just in case something's wrong with the eMMC etc. 2. Can I still use a blank sd card for storage? Or there shouldn't be an sd card attached because it will try to boot from sd card? Thank you

Recently I've installed armbian on my 905 TV box using this article as a guide: https://i12bretro.github.io/tutorials/0269.html After some experiments with dtb files and tuning everything seems to work fine except of one thing: the box can't be turned off, it boots immediately after shutting down. I've found a similar problem described in several articles, for example: https://gist.github.com/george-hawkins/a897a6fe116093a4c1f29ad19df088de It is suggested to enable XHCI HCD quirks in grub. But there is not such file in the system I've installed, the closest thing I found was config-5.9.0-arm-64 file. What is the right way to modify it to add XHCI HCD qui…

Hello, I have a ZTE B866V2 tv box that has an Amlogic S905X2 - b processor. Try to install armbian in all possible ways, with different versions and methods, always following the instructions on the forum. My problem is that when I try to boot from the SD, the TV box simply starts its own operating system and does not load armbian. I got my TV box because my television company gives them to watch programs, but after I no longer paid for the service they gave them to me. They run a modified android tv system. I mention all this because I keep in mind that it could be the root of my problems. I leave you the link of the exact model: https://www.androidtv-g…

Hi guys, I try to install Armbian on my Amlogix G11pro (S509X2 based) TV Gamebox. It keeps booting only into my Emuelec SD card, if I plug it or with anyhting else it only boots into Android that is on eMMC. I understood that I have to use the toothpic method to press the reset button to get into the recovery mode. I tried this but failed as my toothpic didnt reach anything I could click, it just went through. so I opened the box and found that behind the audio jack there is nothing (see attached pic). there is empty space with three connectors on the board, maybe that is the place where usually the micro switch for the reset button sits, but I am not sure. I’m using the DEVMFC version [https://github.com/devmfc/debian-on-amlogic]. Additionally, I took the `/boot` partition and copied all the files from the Devmfc_Ubuntu-Oracular_6.12.11-meson64_Minimal-25.01.24.img.xz image. Then, I downloaded the same version available from the Armbian community, but with a graphical interface: Armbian_community_25.5.0-trunk.4_Aml-s9xx-box_noble_current_6.12.12_xfce_desktop.img.xz. I first flashed the Armbian image onto a USB drive. Then, in the `/boot` partition, I moved all existing root files into a `/backup` folder. After that, I copied the files from the DEVMFC version into the root of the `/boot` partition on the USB driv…

I've spent the last couple of months playing around (low-end testing just to see what the software and I are capable of) with Debian and docker: RSS, Nextcloud, navidrome, immich, nothing earth-shattering. I was doing this in a VM so I could wipe and restart in case of failure/learning curve issues, which was great. Everybody's got to have a hobby, right? After much foibles, I had gotten the setup into something I liked and understood the pratfalls to expect in installation. Ready for primetime, I didn't want to leave this in the VM (I have constant paranoia about usage on my power-sucking desktop), but I have a T95 Max plus TV box sitting around doing nothing but K…

Hello guys! I have a T95Z Plus TV BOX with 3GB RAM, 32GB ROM, and an arm S912 CPU. I can run Armbian just fine from the SD card, but when I try to install it on the eMMC, I get an error message saying something like, "You're already running from eMMC, or the eMMC was not found." And, obviously, I'm not running from eMMC, so it seems like the system just isn't detecting it. I did some research, and it seems like there might be different eMMC manufacturers for the same T95Z Plus model. So, I might need to adjust the "Max frequency" parameter in the .DTB file for the T95Z Plus in order for Armbian to recognize the eMMC on my device. D…

Hi, I am trying to install/boot latest Armbian Jammy minimal on Tanix TX3-H box without success. Technical Details: Box: Tanix TX3-H (BZ) CPU: S905X3 Memory: 4 GB Storage: 64 GB Box: https://androidpctv.com/review-tanix-tx3-s905x3-opinion/ Board Images: Attached I created bootable both usb and sdcard but the box boots into a dark blank screen. I followed the Amlogic boxes instructions but no luck. Tried the different DTBs from the Meson SM1 series, none booted up. Any guidance on using Armbian on this box will be very helpful and appreciated 🙏

I found the TV box that played couple of years ago... and bricked 😞 The box looks like this one https://bestedshop.com/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=213 Seems like I flashed it with Khadas VIM bootloader and now it enters a boot loop because it's failing the vim_check preboot script. I tried all sorts of images via the SD card but it seems it ignores all of them. Hello, I'm new to ARMBIAN, a very poor linux user, but I think I can handle myself. I have a X96 Max Plus android TVBox, and I want to put it on a remote place with home assistant and be able to access it with teamviewer. I've managed to make all this. The thing is I can only access the box shell, so I cannot open a web browser to use HA directly on this box. (but I can access from other device on network without issues). So I thought of installing a desktop platform on armbian that there I can install a browser, so I'm then able to access the place router if needed and also home assistant web interface. I've manage to install a desk…

Hi Everyone I have one Matricom G-Box Android with Lollipop 5.1.1. But, they discontinued an Android for this box. So, after a well succeeded Armbian installation in a MXQ PRO with RK3228A, I want to do the same with this box. As I can not find nothing about these steps, except the kernel generation (https://github.com/SLAzurin/armbian-aml-s8xx-kernel-build-steps). Well, someone could be provide all the steps by-steps for an ARMBIAN installation in this box? How to generate a SD or USB card? Which kernel .Image or zip file should burn it? For instance, for box with Rockship are well described here in Armbian site, but nothing for Amlogic boards,…

Hi everyone, I'm trying to boot Armbian on a TiVo Stream 4K (Model: IPA1114HDW, Board: SEI500BS/Pyxis, SoC: S905X2, Android TV 10). I've flashed S905X2-compatible images (like Armbian_23.02.2...6.1.11) using Rufus/Etcher/Armbian Imager with different DTBs, but I cannot get it to boot from SD or USB. Toothpick method (short press): Enters Fastboot (limited permissions, no flash/dump). Toothpick method (long press): Enters USB Burning Mode. adb reboot bootloader and adb reboot recovery work, but there is no root access via ADB. It seems external boot is disabled, U-Boot is locked, or secure boot is enforced. My next step is hooking up a UART USB-TTL…

I dug up an older box, a Transpeed 8K, S905X3, 4GB...tried Armbian_22.11.0-trunk_Aml-s9xx-box_kinetic_edge_6.0.10.img.xz, with the dtb for X96+ unhashed. I tried multiple times holding the reset button for 15-30 seconds, but it never boots. I'm pretty sure this one was sold under a different name, but haven't confirmed it yet. Anyone got any ideas on how to get this one running Armbian? Thanks, KC

Hi, So I trashed the eMMC on my Amlogic s805 based TV Box, with 1GB RAM and 2GB eMMC. Getting it into mask ROM mode is easy enough, but how to resurrect the eMMC, so that I can boot Armbian off an SD card, is a total mystery. Can it be done, and if so...how? Any advice, or direction to said, greatly appreciated. T.

Anyone else ever get just a blank screen? I’m trying to install onto a Trongle S3 box. I’ve tried a number of dtb’s but as it’s a relatively rear box nothing is definite. Tried to match them by spec but hoped it would at least register an output on my monitor. I get a no signal notification. I will be trying to tty the com port but this includes soldering so wanted to see if anyone else knew of a possible solution before I spent time doing this.

Hello, I am trying to add support for H96 Max X4 android box Here are the specs of my box: SOC: amlogic S905x4 RAM: 2GB Pictures I am trying to run this box as a raspberry pi alternative as I can't find a pi anywhere. I know that there is no official or unofficial support for this chip so I plan to add support for this box myself. After some research, I found that there are 4 variants according to coreelec community and they have already added support for generic S905x4 boxes. So my first intuition was to boot coreelec and try to move on from there. I tried their prebuild image and followed their guide but no succe…

So i've been using the build: "Armbian_community_24.8.0-trunk.6_Aml-s9xx-box_jammy_edge_6.8.10" and trying to burn it with balenaEtcher. The issue is that when ending to verify and configuring - inserting the sd card into a TX3 Mini (board is v1.6) goes into a bootloop. This does happen with all of my sd cards and flash drives, and no, its not that they're faulting, CoreELEC does flash and boot correctly in all of them. I also did the f3 test, and no issues were found. Something particular that I have found is that macOS does detect very easily the corruption and ejects the drive/card, while Windows just lets it pass "as intended" I'…

So I've got two of these old android tv boxes, both running the S912 chipset, and both are pretty much dead at this point. Hi, I'm new to the Armbian community, but I have used Linux before. Recently, I followed this tutorial: https://i12bretro.github.io/tutorials/0316.html to flash Armbian 20.10 Bullseye on what I suspect is a fake TX3 Mini. It has a red motherboard probably not a p-281 board, it could be a q201_N device as twrp said before installing Armbian. Anyways, Armbian detects 1 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal storage in it. It most likely has either an S905X or S912 CPU since I used "u-boot-s905x-s912" during the process. After flashing the SD card with Armbian, I was able to boot successfully. I then installed Armbian using the terminal with "inst…

Hi folks, Very new to this community, very new to flashing Android boxes.. But I wanted to give this a shot and make use of an old TX5 Pro that I had in a drawer. Pleased to say, boots from the SD card fine, managed to get logged in and set up... all is working, WiFi, Bluetooth etc... However, I am just not able to get this to boot from the eMMC. I got to the point where I bricked it and had to re-flash Android onto it.. just to find myself in the same loop. I'll provide as much info as I can here, but let me know if you need something more specific. I'm no expert here, so here goes. Booting from the SD starts like this: When booted, all is wo…

Hello. I have easily managed to get armbian up and running of a usb stick, in fact everything worked perfect (hdmi, wifi, gbit ethernet, etc.). The tv box is h96-air-gbit (as the dtb is named), amlogic s905x3 soc, 32gb mmc, 4gb RAM, gigabit ethernet, 2xusb 2.0, 1xusb 3.0, sd card, hdmi, av port (reset button inside), spdif. The thing is, I wanted to benefit from the 32gb internal mmc storage, since I was running armbian from a 8gb usb stick (had a lot of those hanging around, and didn't want to buy a bigger one). I did notice the image I used had not armbian-install script, nor nand-sata-install. I did a manual install (snapshot copy) of my current system with the help of…

Hi. I installed Armbian Server on my TV box (Ugoos X3 Pro 4/64 x905x3) to the NAND, and I have some trouble with the RAM size in the system. I use meson-sm1-ugoos-x3.dtb. It turns out that only 1.8GB of 4GB RAM is available in the system. On the Russian forum 4PDA, I found some information on how to fix this. I repacked the DTB file and changed memory@ from 0x40000000 to 0xFF000000. After that, 3.8GB RAM appeared in the system, but it turned out the system was unstable and randomly froze. However, when I installed Armbian from an SD card, all 3.8GB RAM was available in the system, and the system worked fine and stable. I also used meson-sm1-ugoos-…

Friends, as shown in the image, I am trying to install a Linux system on this BTV: OTT BOX, model B11 with an Amlogic S905X3 CPU. However, I am not succeeding because it cannot read the USB drive. I have already tried changing the .ext, attempted to burn the image using Rufus, Balena, and nothing worked. I am using a Multilaser USB drive which I believe is 2.0. At the moment I don’t have another USB drive or memory card to test. Any suggestions?

I need to use this UART on an S905 system installed with Armbian 22 and Kernel 5.15 through Python. I am able to do this by changing the permissions of /dev/ttyAML0 from 640 to 660. However I need to avoid having to issue the CHMOD command each time I power up. I have written a service in systemd to do this automatically at startup but the CHMOD command has no effect on the port permissions or else they are being overwritten later on during startup. The service is functioning correctly since CHMOD on another dummy file alters permissions as expected. Any suggestions please?
