Hi there, I am very new here and would like to install Linux on my BOX Beelink GT king. I only read very little about the S922 and couldn't find out any correct information. Can you help me with the image and DTB I need? Thanks.

Hi everyone! Firstly sorry if this question is too basic or already had a solution in other topic, but I couldn't found the answer I'm looking for and I'm new to Armbian. But let's go... We have a standalone system here that plays videos all day long. That kind of "internal TV" from the company, where they put news and other things someone judge it's interesting. It works pretty well so far for roundly 10 years. Thing is: it relies on regular PCs! As you may know, they're big and has bigger energy consumption than this amazing TV Box. During a meeting someone came up with the idea of replacing it for something sm…

Hi, I am working on support for running Armbian on the RKM MK39 (based on the Rockchip RK3399 SOC) Strange issue with uboot and I'm wondering if others had encountered the same thing on other RK3399 devices with eMMC I have successfully compiled the kernel and uboot from Rockchips SDK at http://opensource.rock-chips.com/wiki_Linux_user_guide Uboot loads but thats it, it seems like it can't find the kernel on my eMMC. Here's what happens on the serial console: Any ideas?? Spoiler U-Boot 2017.09-01593-gd80d7b5 (Jun 19 2018 - 14:39:51 +0800) …

With many users here in this forum owning different SoCs, dev boards and TV boxes, i wonder which one would be recommended to be used as a simple desktop with HW support for GUI. I have one S905 in my mind, but not sure if mali-450 is supported with balbes150 images.

Hi, I plan on running octoprint on my Amlogic S912 china android box. Now I need to connect a filament runout sensor via gpio, in a octoprint plugin one specifies the used pins. Unfortunately my device has no dedicated gpio header built in, so I want to ask: Is there a way (that maybe works easily with armbian) to have gpio somehow? Like some usb stick with gpio on it that can forward gpio in and output? I have a pi zero lying around and found this https://github.com/raspberrypi/gpioexpander/wiki where some pigpio library is mentioned. But no idea if or how this could work on an Amlogic box. Any ideas?

Hello! Hopefully someone got ideas or a working, booting .img. I got an CS918 box, which is based on the rk3188 system. i already played around with probably the most common tools on linux (rkflashkit, upgrade tool ...) Unfortunately there are some dead download links out there, so i cannot download the most interesting img files. I'd prefer a debian img, but ubuntu will do the job too. I also tried out some steps from the "morrison-project" with its interesting scripts, but it didnt work yet. Thank you for any ideas and links. Greetings CS918

Been at this for a few days now and am slowly losing my mind. Got a MQX Amlogic 905 P201. (CS_905MXQ_V1.0) and have been running Armbian for a while now off SD card using meson-gxbb-p201.dtb without any issues. Using Armbian_5.84_Aml-s905_Debian_stretch_default_5.1.0-rc1_20190507 Tried installing to emmc by running install.sh. Everything looked good but rebooted and found the device was bricked. Managed to get it working again by running the usb burning tool and flashing MXQ PRO 4K - p201 - android TV (ATV) - by cOOLio. SoI can at least boot into it and browse the SD card, but now for some reason I can't boot directly back in…

Hello all, I have a box with a S905x that I've been able to get to boot using @balbes150 image: Armbian_5.71_Aml-s9xxx_Ubuntu_bionic_default_4.20.2_20190118.img Which I found at https://yadi.sk/d/pHxaRAs-tZiei Everything works (as far as I know) except for the WIFI. I cracked the device open and have identified the wifi chip as S9082C. I've done a fair bit of searching on the web and in the forums and I've found people having issues with this wifi module, but no solutions. I have also tried installing LibreELEC and found that it recognises and uses the wifi right from the start. I tried copying the dtb.…

Hi there, I'm new to these boards and armbian. Hey guys. I need around 10-20 SBC or TV Boxes that can run Armbian. I only need Ethernet support, Wi-Fi and BT isn't required, but I'd like something stable that doesn't overheat. I'll be running Docker on them, is that an issue on Armbian? This can be a deal breaker for me. 2GB/16GB boxes would be the best option if I can flash armbian to the EMMC in board, requiring no SD card to boot, thus minimizing costs. I've seen that the Tanix TX3 Mini is stable and the 2GB/16GB unit is at around 25€, but this is a bit much. I managed to buy some RK3318 2GB/16GB boxes in the past for 18€, but they're gone. I've also seen the HK1 Mini, which uses…

Hi all, I am writing because i took the AMLogic Project to get deeper in Linux. First of all @balbes150 and to every Armbian Developer : GREAT F()/"§! WORK! Hi All, I'm using Armbian_5.37_S9xxx_Debian_stretch_3.14.29_xfce_20171226.img image file on an amlogic S912 board. That image doesn't have a usblp module compiled in the kernel. This is an adaptation of something @SteeMan wrote in this post, but we need to refer to it often enough that I thought I would make it into a sticky. Amlogic (S9xx) Android based TV Boxes 1. They are not supported. 2. A single developer (@balbes150) had worked years on getting things to the state they are. 3. As of October 14th, 2020 balbes150 removed support for Amlogic CPUs, so that is the last build that will maybe work on your box. 4. There is a very small number of people on this forum/club that are able to provide any guidance. 5. Most likely no one on this forum/club has ever seen your specific box. 6. Expectations should be set low (i…

Hello everyone, I would like to build an updated Armbian image for balbes150's arm-64 implementation. Image family found here: https://users.armbian.com/balbes150/arm-64/ I have started some work on my personal armbian branch here: https://github.com/SLAzurin/build-armbian-custom/tree/arm64tv Currently, I'm not sure about my progress, there were times I was able to build an image, but the machine wouldn't boot successfully. (using xdarklight's kernel files https://github.com/xdarklight/linux/tree/meson-mx-integration-5.14-20210718) At most, it would boot into u-boot, and then hang after trying to start the Linux kernel. When I try using balbes1…

Ok guys looking for some help on shutting down issue. I installed Armbian_5.90_Aml-s905_Ubuntu_bionic_default_5.1.0_desktop_20190701.img.xz using S905.p212.dtb two days ago. It was logging ADC errors in the kernel log every three seconds but they have gone now , it is now logging the errors below in the kernel log and ttyS0 errors in the syslog and kernel log as well. I disabled the ttyS0 service to stop it logging all the time and around 25 minutes later it shutdown, There are no errors in the kernel log apart from the ones below. It was stable for 1.5 days until I disabled the ttyS0. It keeps shutting down every 25 minutes but was st…

I installed Armbian_5.60_Aml-s9xxx_Ubuntu_xenial_default_4.18.7 to the EMMC of my s905x TV Box , so far so good . Yesterday I trimmed some drivers and built the kernel successfully . The following packages are generated with armbian build tool : linux-dtb-aml-s9xxx_5.60_arm64.deb linux-headers-aml-s9xxx_5.60_arm64.deb linux-libc-dev-aml-s9xxx_5.60_arm64.deb linux-image-aml-s9xxx_5.60_arm64.deb linux-source-default-aml-s9xxx_5.60_all.deb I am going to ssh into my box and run "dpkg -i " commands to update kernel . Is it safe to do so while Armbian is running ?

Is there an Android TV box that can successfully run Armbian? I got two boxes on the hopes that it would work but I failed in my efforts so far 1. X98: I found out that Linux kernel doesn't have the .dtb files for this box so it won't work for now. Maybe I can derive it from S905W but I haven't tried it yet. 2. X96-Air: I could run Armbian [1] on the SD card but when I tried to install it on the eMMC, it stopped booting altogether. Now it won't even boot with SD card inserted. Is there an Android box which supports 5GHz wifi that can definitely run Armbian? Thanks! [1]: I used a release from a person that uses Ar…

Hi TV boxes hackers, We are thinking of re-purposing an existing Android TV box into a $30 personal cyber-security monitoring server for your home. Good or terrible idea? What caveats should we pay attention to? We will order directly from the manufacturer so we should be able to save some money (no need for a remote or an HDMI cable) and ensure they all use the same components. Giving the current chip shortage, it is though to reach a $30 price point without being creative... (we won't take any profit on the hardware) The project will be open source (no code yet). Current status: Armbian running on RK3318 -…

Hi! I saw that, even if not officially supported, there is a lot of discussion about armbian on tv boxes. I read that amlogic ones are not really a good choice and rockchip and allwinner ones should be the right choice instead. I am thinking to buy a tv box to play with armbian, you know...for fun! But I am quite undecided. Would be an Allwinner H6 the best option or should I buy something with a Rockchip 3229, 3288 or 3388? And moreover, what would be the best choice and why between the Rockchip ones? I have already read the thread "Status of Armbian on TV Boxes - Please Read First" but at the moment there are no informations regarding Rockchip and Allwinner.

Hello all! And no by an old arm box I don't mean a box full of proshetic limbs! :-) . I'm referring to this device: http://rikomagic.co.uk/linux_mini_pcs.html https://www.cnx-software.com/2014/09/25/rikomagic-announces-mk902ii-le-ubuntu-mini-pc-powered-by-rockchip-rk3288-soc/ The device was badged as a "RKM Mk902II" and claims to have a rk3288. Dug it out today (it has sat unused and untouched for quite a while). Found that its plsatic box which has that strange gunk that is applied to to the box to make it look "shiny" has started to break down so it has become sticky. Anyway since I am clearing things out …

Hi. I am trying to connect a bluetooth speaker that also has a microphone to armbian. When using it as a plain speaker via A2DP, it works fine. However when i switch it to HSP/HFP in order to use the microphone, i get a lot of static, random crackling and very low volume on both the microphone and the speaker. Using a usb bluetooth adapter for this. I've used the same adapter + speaker on a different machine (x86 running lubuntu 19.10) and i did not have any static at all when using HSP/HFP (sound was indeed a bit lower quality that A2DP but nothing major). Also i could not get the speaker to switch to HSP/HFP with the default audio tool in armbian desktop, nor on …

As I have been watching the development of Armbian for TV boxes, there is one area that my needs haven't been addressed yet. And since this is open source that means I needed to read a lot of posts and get into the code to understand how things are working. I have been doing that over the last six months or so and wanted to report back on what I am now doing to solve my issue as it may help others. I have a number of TV boxes running as headless servers for a variety of projects. Once I install Armbian on them I then get OS updates through ubuntu (I am using Ubuntu Bionic on my boxes). That gives me bug fixes and patches for the software running on these b…

Hi, I've just tried mainline kernel 4.19 with my two TV boxes and first impression is wow! it works! It's faster than expected! Thanks! With Magicsee N5 I can't access the internal eMMC. I couldn't find anything on the web, I looked everywhere. With the dd command I can of course create a complete image of the eMMC anywhere, even on a network path, but I can't find anything that allows me to do what the "nand-sata-install.sh" script does, which formats the eMMC and populates it with all the contents of the MicroSD, appropriately adapting some files needed for booting. It would be many useful to be able to do the exact opposite as well, i.e. clone eMMC to MicroSD, which would be useful to have a bootable backup with all the customizations performed on the eMMC, without having to go through the process of creating an image file. I tried modifying the …

I know that this topic actually concerns all ARM boards, but I've chosen to post in TV-boxes, because they really need some kind of harddisk attachment, especially when used as servers (so you don't wear down the SD-card). Some time ago, Western Digital made a USB-drive, which was specially designed for the Raspberry Pi. https://www.wdc.com/en-ie/search-results.html?q=pidrive Personally I'm using two 1TB WD-blue with my CubieBoard2, because the CubieBoard2 has buit-in S-ATA interface. But TV-boxes usually don't have S-ATA, so the PiDrive is an option worth considering. What's special about this drive ? At a glance, nothing really. It's…

Hi, I've tried booting into Armbian on a TX5 PRO and all i have managed up until now is to get stuck on the boot screen . Most tutorials I found are for older versions of Armbian. What i did: From here: [REMOVED LINK], i downloaded both the bionic and eoan versions, hoping a newen/older version might help. Both produced the same result. Even tried the newer RC2 version. After downloading the image, i used xzcat IMAGE | dd of=/dev/sdc to write it to a microSD card (also tried with usb stick) copied each *S905X* dtb file to the root of the same partition, and renamed them to dtb.img. None behaved any different. From the update app inside…

I wonder if there is an issue with changing from eMMC to NAND on this model and the internal memory can't be used for linux installation anymore. Please anyone help clarify this issue?

I have a problem. “ddbr” can not make a backup of a andriod system in a Amlogic S905 TV box with a NAND flash, see this link for more details. When I use 'ddbr' in an Ambian system booted by USB drive, it shows below: root@SumavisionQ5:~# ddbr DO YOU WANT TO BACKUP OR RESTORE ? BACKUP=(b) RESTORE=(r) b UNABLE TO FIND ANY EMMC OR SD DRIVES ON THIS SYSTEM!!! I think someone else must have the same problem. Can we make an improvement of 'ddbr' , so that it can be used for a NAND flash.

Hi, I am posting from work, so do not currently have access to my MXQ box, meaning what I am about to explain is based on last nights attempt at running Armbian from a SDCard I will try to be as detailed as I can.... I have been following a tutorial at the MXQProject website in order to install the Mate Armbian distro (5.41) onto a MXQ / S805 Android box (although I have chosen to use the XFCE distro instead). All seems to goes well, until I get to the first Armbian login prompt (the bit where I enter 'root' as the user and '1234' as the password). Hi folks, I have one of those cheap boxes based off Amlogic S905X, and while ARMbian boots properly, I really wanted OpenGL support and 2D and 3D acceleration in Xorg. After looking for a while I found Amlogic's buildroot package , which has full wifi, hdmi, and full mali support including GL, and cross compiled an image based off gcc-linaro-6.3.1, uboot-2015-next, and kernel 4.9. I managed to build the whole thing with no major issue, and flashed it using USB Burning Tool. But the box was then stuck in an infinite reset loop. I connected the serial console, and this is the output: Spoiler GXL:BL1:9ac50e:a1974b;FEAT:ADFC318C;POC:3;RCY:0;EMMC:0…

Hey everyone, SO Odroid N2 looks like to be quite a bit more powerful (and expensive). Odroid C2 is more on par with this Android boxe real value, for me, was probably the time I spent figuring this out and I thought I might as well share it. It's true that you have to figure everything out on your own but the state of the ARM distros today is getting pretty good, so if you can get it running initially you should be able to just update with the package manager without problems.https://nox.tips/ https://xender.vip https://testmyspeed.onl

Hello, a few days ago a bought this box so that i could run Linux on it with ovpn server. The problem is that a can' t get the box to boot from sd. I tried different cards but no success, the toothpick method brings me to the recovery screen. I tested the mentioned sd's on a Beelink GT1 and they work just fine (boot Unbuntu without any problems). Can someone give me some advice on how to get this box on Linux because this is the only reason i bought this box. It would be running only Linux for 24/7, so installing linux on the box itself would also be an option. Thank you in advance for your ideas and suggestions.

Hello, I have bought an x96mini with a uboot version from 03/2019, everythings works perfectly when booting from SD, but when I try to boot from internal the kernel boots and it stops at "waiting for root device", after an investigation I have noticed that the partitions layout is different from the standard one, I have updated the dtb to be inline with that layout but the problem remains the same, unable to boot from internal. Hello Armbian'ers, I'm a veteran Debian user and occasional system administrator, but - have zero experience with TV set-top boxes / media streamers. I now find myself in a position of needing one: In a rental apartment, I have a wall-mounted TV with HDMI in but an old, custom, non-upgradable vendor-specific OS and no network connectivity. To be honest - I don't particularly need my box to be ARM-based, nor do I need my OS distribution to be Debian. I mean, that would be the nicest, since my desktop is Devuan Chimaera (~= Debian 11), but I would definitely settle on any reasonable Linux distro. Anyway, my questions: 1. How c…
