Hi Guys, I also want to run my TV box with linux (Armbian). To install IObroker. It worked on the SD card. About Armbian I flashed the EMCC again so I do not need an SD card anymore. After a reboot, nothing worked anymore Armbian on the EMCC also not on the SD card. Connecting via USB to the PC does not work either. Can I flash it all over RX and TX? Does one have an idea? Thank you

Hi im really don't have much knowledge when it comes to stuff like this so please be patient with me. I am trying to setup several Amlogic tv boxes with armbian for my kids to use but I don't seen to be having any success in getting any of the to boot into armbian from the sd card. I have several boxes that are either s905w or s912 but I cant seem to get any to work so I must be doing something wrong. I have followed several instruction videos and tutorials but there are a few things I just don't get. so I have downloaded this file Armbian_20.02.0-rc1.037_Aml-s9xxx_buster_current_5.5.0-rc6_desktop_20200205 and written it to the sd card fine, next is the dtb file part, I …

Hello Guys, I bought this box 2 years ago and practicaly never used. After home cleaning found it and fought "if it run Android, it can run any Linux". I alredy have RBpi B3+ and with this TV Box now I could have a small open source data center and practice with ngnx, MariaDB, Postgree, MySQL, NodeJS, PHP, Python etc. After research I found this web, and liked Armbian idea. Issues: 1. This box looks identical to MXQ-4K, however the image did not work. When I opened it, the procesor was Allwinner H3, PCB is AK-H3-MXQ4K-V1.1 (https://wikidevi.wi-cat.ru/GUANZHI_Android_TV_BOX_H3) 2. I have many SD/microSD (brand and non brand…

Hello, Since I'm less than a noob in linux, can anyone please help me with the commands that I need to execute the following instructions? Thanks in advance. Instructions: 1. Install the dtb file meson-gxl-s905w-tx3-mini-vfd.dtb.gz and boot your tx3 box with this file. (This assumes that you boot from SD/USB so that you don't risk bricking your box.) 2. Download the vfd code (module and daemon) tarball vfdd-20181209.tar.xz from a link at the bottom of the page http://www.rvq.fr/linux/tanix-vfd.php and unpack it someplace on your tx3 box. 3. Build the vfd module (natively): Install the *.deb package fr…

Hi, Could someone please help, I am trying to install Ubuntu on Mygica 1960 AML S912B currently running android 7.12. I've been planning to try out Armbian on my MXQ Pro 4K 5G (2/16GB) which has Allwinner H3 and originally runs a rooted version of Android 7.1.2. My TV box had an issue recently and I had to flash the firmware for Sunvell R69 to it (no original firmware files found just yet), everything works except Wi-Fi and improper RAM and ROM readings (1/8GB). I've read that there was an official support for Beelink X2 before. Since I do have an Allwinner H3, I decided to give Armbian a try. I've searched for the firmware online, but all my youtube/google searches results leads to https://www.armbian.com/beelinkx2/ which appears to not host the file anymore. Clicking either Armbian Bio…

I am trying to compile 150 Balbes source for a customer kernel. I would like to enable CAN, VCAN and SLCAN support in the kernel. I copied the config file from /boot to the Amlogic_s905-kernel directory as .config. I then ran make menuconfig and was able to select CAN, VCAN and SLCAN to enable those modules. I then ran make and it seemed to build fine. It took several hours so I went to sleep. I didn't find any errors in the morning and I was able to see the new files under /arch/arm64/boot. At that point I was a little confused on how to get the new kernel to emmc and boot it. I thought before I screw something up I would see if I could just build the modules wi…

Hi, I've a small amount of linux knowledge... enough to be dangerous but not enough to understand fully what's going on. I'm learning slowly but have reached a frustrating failure with my A95x revision 2 set top box. It's running "ARMBIAN 5.41.1 user-built Debian GNU/Linux 9 (stretch) 4.17.0-rc3-next-20180430-amlogics905x" I have a behringer UCA202 USB soundcard - it uses standard texas instruments chipset so should just be plug and play. But there's a gap in my knowledge and in the process of getting the soundcard to detect within Armbian. lsbusb outputs.... Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0003 Linux Foundation 3.0 root h…

I tried to install Armbian_19.11.3_Aml-g12_buster_legacy_5.3.0_20191126.img.xz to my T95Z Plus box (S912 with 3GB RAM) but got only wifi running. Any ethernet connection was not possible. I used meson-gxm-khadas-vim2.dtb in uEnv.ini and was able to boot the box into debian buster. The following steps are needed to get the ethernet running (it is may be valuable for other problems too): - go to the directory where all the dtb files are located sudo apt-get install device-tree-compiler sudo dtc -I dtb -O dts -f meson-gxm-khadas-vim2.dtb -o meson-gxm-T95Z-Plus.dts sudo nano meson-gxm-T95Z-Plus.dts Now search for "ethernet-phy@0" and insert the following 2 …

Hello everyone, For the past days i've been trying to install Armbian on my S905 box. I've been able to backup the system with TWRP through a microSD card. I've installed Armbian_20.02.0-rc1.037_Aml-s9xxx_buster_current_5.5.0-rc6_desktop_20200205 on the SD card and have been trying ever since to find the right DTB file to boot with. Searching the forums (and coreelec/libreelec forums) it seems that some of these boxes come with a S905 or S905x SOC, but none of the DTB files i've tried result in anything else than a black screen on boot. Am i doing something really wrong here? Is it perhaps possible to extract a DTB file for th…

Hi, I have recently bought a 17 inch rk3288 android tablet. It has 2gb of ram and 16gb of nand running android 5. The reason I bought this was to get libreelec OS and kodi run on it. I found a rom for ugoos 3288 running libreelec and flashed to the tablet (Link). Everything works except tablet’s screen (and probably touch screen) and wifi. But I could get display from hdmi output and see everything runs good. I asked the seller to send me the android’s image file and now I also have android full firmware for this tablet. My question is, how can I make everything work in Libreelec by using/extracting required files from android image and add them t…

Hello, I have an old Android TV Box (affectionately named RBOX) -- having trouble finding any specs or hardware information for it, and I'm trying to see if I can throw on a Linux distro to turn it into a micro-server (either via USB or SD Card). Has anyone ever seen one of these, know what kind of hardware is in it? (CPU, firmware, etc.?) Any reccomendations on which distro to use? I tried Bullseye Armbian to no avail.

I figured I’d start a generic chat for this as I’m sure I’m not the only one who wants to know other peoples experiences on this. I’ve bought and run armbian on a number of boxes (x96, Trongle, a95x) and always run into the same problem, WiFi. I know I am not the only one and I know the reasoning behind it (too many chips to support) But… Has anyone got a build working with WiFi support? Ideally on a board less than $50? Amlogic, Rockchip, anything? I’ve never failed to get other aspects working, except WiFi (and Bluetooth) I know it must be possible, Android builds never seem to fail with WiFi support. …

@Steeman: thanks so much for a clear and concise instruction! You are my hero!!! By the way, I just want to check with you. There is no reason to run Armbian on emmc card, rite? Because the sdcard nowadays are much faster & larger than those that are available in the old TV Boxes? Thus there is no advantage to install to the emmc? Thanks!

But I try to plug SD Card with many images/versions of Armbian and with/without press reset, it can not boot from SD Card, it still boots to Android TVBox GUI. I recently got some new SD cards. When try using them, I found a strange behavior of these SD cards. They allow you to create ONLY one partition on it. When you try to burn the image, the image is written correctly, no error messages. With this SD card, you can activate the multi-boot. But when I try to start the system or to verify the data in the second partition on the SD card, I discover that the partition is created but data is not available (section is blank, no file system). If a single partition (the whole size of the SD card), the data be read and written to the entire size of the SD card. So for all who have problems running from an SD card or Armbian Librelec, …

Hi all, Since the previous thread got closed due to not sticking to the topic box, I thought I will start a new thread. Let's try and avoid this turning into a general discussion... I have noticed that the price for X88 King (and variants like Pro) have significantly dropped. This intrigued me so I spend a few hours reading the thread over at 4pda.ru via Google Translate and it seems the stock firmware was very buggy initially. Over the last couple of months some OTA upgrades and custom firmware managed to greatly improve stability. Some questions remain as to whether the 5V 2A power supply is enough but in general the box is more usable. …

Hey guys. I need around 10-20 SBC or TV Boxes that can run Armbian. I only need Ethernet support, Wi-Fi and BT isn't required, but I'd like something stable that doesn't overheat. I'll be running Docker on them, is that an issue on Armbian? This can be a deal breaker for me. 2GB/16GB boxes would be the best option if I can flash armbian to the EMMC in board, requiring no SD card to boot, thus minimizing costs. I've seen that the Tanix TX3 Mini is stable and the 2GB/16GB unit is at around 25€, but this is a bit much. I managed to buy some RK3318 2GB/16GB boxes in the past for 18€, but they're gone. I've also seen the HK1 Mini, which uses…

So the K3 boots fine without any problems, except there is no dvb interface (/dev/dvb). So I need to load the kernel modules for the AVL6862 tuner, but it is not included in the images. To compile my own modules, I can only find source drivers here: https://github.com/afl1/dvb_tv-aml https://github.com/avlogic/AVL6862 but I am unable to successf…

Hi, I successfuly use Armbian on a beelink TV box but I can't install it on eMMC/NAND. So running out of the SDcard will eventually end up crashing . So I'm Looking for a cheap / realiable / no hassle TV Box to replace it. So what box would you recommend, around 25$ budget, which works fine "out of the box" to install armbian When answering please tell which dtb you are using with your box. Thanks.

When building An armbian image, it takes a lot of time to create u-boot and I want to understand how it is necessary to include u-boot in the image immediately. If most people don't use it, I'll disable copying it to the image when I build it. For those who will need the image with the embedded u-boot, it is possible to easily add the right version of u-boot into the existing image.

To avoid off-topic discussion, suggested by @balbes150, i started this thread in hope that someone wants to get involved contributing to Armbian!?! I want to make an Android app that can: Extract your DTB.img. Burn Armbian distro to USB/SD card. (no PC required!) - it will require root OR custom recovery. Targets: AMlogic first, Rockchip after, Maybe more (MTK)? The app will use: 'EtchDroid' (open source - F-Droid) to burn the .img's to USB/SD card. 'Amlogic DTB tool' (open source - GitHub) for DTB extraction. What i need: HELP!!! i cannot do it alone! i will need ATLEAST so…

Hi, I have X96+ with armian. I have issue with usb hdd (usb 3.0) on both usb ports (2.0/3.0).Disk have ext4 partition. During hisk work very often disk unmounting (i hear when thisk stoping). In effect the disk is mounted as read-only and of course it generates disk errors that are repairable with fsck. What could be the reason? A badly mounted drive or a sluggish, dying power supply? How I can diagnose this? Any ideas? I simply mounting disk in fstab LABEL=usb-hdd /media/usb-hdd ext4 defaults,rw 0 0

Hello everyone, I am not having any luck with the wifi on the H96 Max X3. I see posts saying the wifi on this box work with meson-sm1-sei610-ethfix.dtb / meson-sm1-H96max-X3.dtb or h96max-x2-test-bus80-gpu-volt.dtb but they are not working for me. I did put the BCM4335C0.hcd in /lib/firmware/brcm and the driver apparently loaded. Everything else seems to be working ok. A few posts mentioned it works with kernel 5.6rc1 and 5.7 but I couldn't find those images. I tried all the images Mr. Balbes have on https://users.armbian.com/balbes150/arm-64/ and I also tried installing the headers. It works fine with Emulec and Android…

Hey Everbody, as the title suggests, im considering adding an external HDD enclosure to my S905x2 box running armbian to use it as a budget NAS. I was considering using Openmedia Vault + 4 Bays Raid 5 via USB 3.0. Is there anything in principle that would speak against this? Another question i have: would i need to use an external enclosure with a built in raid controller or can i use any external enclosure and setup the raid via software control (in armbian)?? Also i am not sure if i should go for a cheaper non-brand or maybe something like a QNAP TR-004 that i could (re)use with a real qnap NAS at some point in the future. Anybody here who has…

Device: Android TV box t95z Plus 3GB/32GB (SoC S912) device. Purpose: Running Home Automation docker images pretty much same setup than @Petee is running, but also as a Zigbee2MQTT coordinator using a CC2531 dongle. have tried over the few weeks several combinations of releases and DTB files with no luck. If it is any help got corelec (CoreELEC-Amlogic.arm-9.2.1-Generic) running smoothly with gxm_q200_3g.dtb but since there is no docker support it is a no go for me. Cant even get it to boot, if you have a working setup with this device please help find a correct combination.

Hello, As far as I read, there are not many (<100$) arm64 board to run linux armbian, kodi, maybe plex, capable of playing without issues 4k videos. I think if I'd like to make tvbox the best choice in terms of video quality would be using android, right? Thing is I hate android, I love linux. Correct me if I'm wrong, but is there any good board around 50-80 $ to make a linux tv box? I'd just use it as an HTPC for playing video with a 4k tv attached to it and maybe some simple home media server. Thank you

Wanting to build a new Armbian server from a TV Box. Video is not a requirement here as the device will be headless. Just a quickie picture relating to the size of this box. I am impressed. It will be mounted inside of a security panel (Leviton Omni Pro 2) and serve as a console to said security panel using automation software. Ideally though want: - Gb NIC - 32 Gb eMMC - 4 Gb RAM Bluetooth and WLAN is nice to have but not necessary for my use. Been only tinkering here with Octocore ARM CPU TV boxes but not necessary. Hello everyone, I would like to build an updated Armbian image for balbes150's arm-64 implementation. Image family found here: https://users.armbian.com/balbes150/arm-64/ I have started some work on my personal armbian branch here: https://github.com/SLAzurin/build-armbian-custom/tree/arm64tv Currently, I'm not sure about my progress, there were times I was able to build an image, but the machine wouldn't boot successfully. (using xdarklight's kernel files https://github.com/xdarklight/linux/tree/meson-mx-integration-5.14-20210718) At most, it would boot into u-boot, and then hang after trying to start the Linux kernel. Balbes150, I made a image with your git lib and 905X kernel. Using your config-4.9.26+ with settings non debug and 1000Hz timer and using Debian testing Xfce repos. Why it uses only half screen with Sunvell T95Z Plus Amlogic S912? To get this far you need to fix a lot of gcc 6.3 compilation errors from the display driver. In many places { and } were missing in if statements and there were two illegal C code lines like it would be a python program. There is no audio driver and I tried to port it from the 3.14 kernel, but it is too much work. The linux mainline kernel can have support for hdmi and audio soon: http://linux-meson.com/doku.php . …

Hey all, trying to throw a Linux distro on an Android TV Box I found at Goodwill. Not too much info on what company makes it, what the specs are etc. -- it's unfortunately too old to connect to the Google Play Store at this point (running android Jellybean). The only markings on it are on the top of the case saying RBOX, but I have yet to find any other device like it on any site. It's a red and black square case, for what that's worth. I also haven't been able to boot to the BIOS/bootloader menu, even holding the reset button -- all that happens is the little Android mascot says its loading then after a few seconds it "dies" (red triangle-shaped …

I couldn't find the answer anywhere. I don't want to erase the onboard android os but I was wondering if I can boot from the sdcard without having to turn the box upside down and and pinching it with a pin.

I tried to write different images from the h6 family, for example: Arabian_23.11.0_allwinner_tanix-tx6_bullseye_5.136_server_2023.10.20.img to my SD and USB drive, however, this does not work. If you install the SD card and turn it on, then the red LED lights up on the device and that's it. The device simply ignores the USB flash drive and loads android. What could be the problem?
