M9Plus 4k TV Box - An Exercise in Futility? My apologies for the verbosity of this post. I have an Android box marked M9 Plus 4k on the top. It was given to me, as a gift. There are no other markings on the box, and the user manual that came with it is all but useless. There is no web site listed, and no way to find out who made the thing. Tech specs are listed below. After playing with the Android and a bunch of apps from Google, for about 3 months, I finally got around to doing the sensible thing, and switched it over to Linux. Specifically LibreELEC. The only issue was the dtb.img file for the 1G Ethernet did not work pro…

I got a box a month ago off Amazon. Externally its labeled "MX Pro+ 4K" But it is running with 7.1.2 and the firmware I have flashed was a MXQ. The board says MXQ_S905X_D4 v1.2 and I have tried both SD and USB, it is going into uboot I think? (The light is red not blue) but I can't find a dtb that works. There is no display coming on when its trying to load from the uboot. I did mess up the firmware and was able to flash it using usb burning tool Any Ideas on how to make this work????? I messed up the original firmware and bricked it and had to short pins and reflash it with the firmware I could find but I would really like to know more about this box and how to get Linu…

Hello everybody, I would like to install Armbian on my Trongle X3 (Android 6 TV box, S905X 64bit CPU, 1 GB RAM, SoC board with HDMI/Ethernet/2 USB/1 microSD/IR/WiFi connections). Is there a safe way to migrate from Android to Armbian and back, eventually? I will only use this device for streaming video purpose. I haven't important things on its internal memory (8GB). Thank you.

I installed Armbian_5.60_Aml-s9xxx_Ubuntu_xenial_default_4.18.7 to the EMMC of my s905x TV Box , so far so good . Yesterday I trimmed some drivers and built the kernel successfully . The following packages are generated with armbian build tool : linux-dtb-aml-s9xxx_5.60_arm64.deb linux-headers-aml-s9xxx_5.60_arm64.deb linux-libc-dev-aml-s9xxx_5.60_arm64.deb linux-image-aml-s9xxx_5.60_arm64.deb linux-source-default-aml-s9xxx_5.60_all.deb I am going to ssh into my box and run "dpkg -i " commands to update kernel . The mainline images on yadidisk dont seem to have as many dtb files as the image i used and they dont run anything. Steps I have tried: factory reset and load image factory reset and copy dtb files from 3.14 image and load image copy the autorun zip files and load image. i do not get any action on the 4.9 images or the 4.18 images but i can reload the 3.14 images is there any other method to try?

Ok fairly new to ARMBIAN.... Possibly 3 hrs in. I have it running on an MXQ media box, all fine but no wi-fi... Put in an old D-Link DWL-G122 usb stick and whilst it's recognised by the usb sub system no driver gets loaded. I have installed armbian-firmware-full and there seems to be relevant firmware for the RALINK devices. but iwconfig does nothing and the device does not show up in "nmtui" I have to admit it's probably 13-14 years since I had to manually do anything with a linux driver so I am rusty! Any ideas? Cheers TT

Hello, I am looking for a cheap SoC (less than 15$ per SoC) that has the most efficient HW based h.264 encoder. I want to transcode multiple 1080p (6-12 mbps bitrate source) TS streams. I will probably use couple of those SoC's. I was reading about Allwinner V3S (~3$ per CPU) based SoCs but can't find any cheap one for sale based on that chip. Also I don't really know what kind of performance this cheap have for HW h.264 encoding. Anyone have any experience with HW 1080p encoding on SoCs? Any suggestions?

I have a E-Z STREAM TI8 box, I have managed to boot from armbian but the installation cant execute as my mmcblk1 is not setup according to the script. This is how the partitions look like mmcblk1boot0 mmcblk1boot1 mmcblk1rpmb. Is there a risk for me to redo the partitions and run the install script? As I see it if I do this it could brink the box. I also tried to extract the dtb from mmcblk1boot0 without any luck... anyone that has a good howto for this?

If you dont need GPIO then you are probably better off looking at TV boxes or boards intended for that market instead of an SBC. That market is starting to see PCIe and USB3 attached 4x4 wifi chips and at very cheap prices. I brought back some dirt cheap RK3399 TV box boards back from China in June with AP6255 (2T2R) chips that perform much better than expected as an AP for upto 5-6 simultaneous clients. I get approx 425Mbps with 1 client, ~295Mbps with 3 clients and ~165Mbps with 6 clients. Thats line of sight in a ring approx 3 meter radius around the AP. I also get 890Mbps on the GB port on boards that cost me about €35 each (¥27500 for 100 boards) ¥275 / …

Information in this topic is very outdated see this topic. The start system in Coreelec is not compatible with LibreELECE Armbian etc. If you run coreelec on your TV box, you will no longer be able to run LE and Armbian normally until the full recovery of the standard firmware via the USB Burn Tool and the new activation of the universal multi-boot, which is used in all new systems. The new version 5.55 of images. In this version, images with a single DE (XFCE) and a server in composition are as close as possible to the official versions. Hi folks, I'm currently running @150Balbes "Armbian_5.27_S812_Ubuntu_xenial_3.10.99" on a S812, but with some minor issues. Ethernet only 100Mbits (Realtek 8211F). Kernels newer than 3.10.99 won't boot (but will try to determine why, when I get my UART Adpter.) So after all, I'm thinking to replace this box, with a more current one. Purpose of this box: running an "Emby-Server" with external HDDs and probably "Pi-Hole". Which box is recommendable for these purposes? thanks in advance

Hi, new to armbian here! I'm coming from libreelec looking for a less limited operating system keeping mediacenter features of libreelec (mostly kodi) I installed Armbian_5.44_S9xxx_Debian_stretch_3.14.29_server_20180601.img.xz (it boots only versions with 3.14 kernel, others don't work), I found that it has not wifi drivers because it is not working, just eth0 is shown with "ip a". Is it possible that drivers for this box are missing? With libreelec it works like a charm. Thanks in advance!

I have been happy user of Vscission V88 Piano board for some months running Armbian and ZFS, but yesterday after some trouble rebooting like 20x after the box hang during an attempt to clone a Corsair 32GB USB drive, i can't get it to boot Armbian any longer! I've verified i'ts' not the SDcard nor the content in it (correct dtb.img etc) and i even downloaded another image from dl.armbian.com and tested a new SD card with no luck. It boots Android just fine when SD card is not inserted, but when inserted i see a red light and nothing on the screen. Sad since this one has enough RAM to run a lot of stuff. What could this be?

Hi, I am working on support for running Armbian on the RKM MK39 (based on the Rockchip RK3399 SOC) Strange issue with uboot and I'm wondering if others had encountered the same thing on other RK3399 devices with eMMC I have successfully compiled the kernel and uboot from Rockchips SDK at http://opensource.rock-chips.com/wiki_Linux_user_guide Uboot loads but thats it, it seems like it can't find the kernel on my eMMC. Here's what happens on the serial console: Any ideas?? Spoiler U-Boot 2017.09-01593-gd80d7b5 (Jun 19 2018 - 14:39:51 +0800) …

Hi, So I have an MXQ S805 box. I installed Armbian_5.44 S805 Debian Server on SD card, got the right DTB to work and its working well. I have run the install.sh file to install to NAND and that has gone well too However, when I reboot, it goes into a weird loop that basically does not allow it to boot right. I encountered this loop previously when I was trying to identify the right DTB for my box, so I am confused that much more. What am I missing? Help. Thanks.

Hi, I installed an Epson TM-T20 II without problem using the armbian image for z28 tvbox, rockchip rock64 alike board. When I plug it, it creates a /dev/usb/lp0 port that is enough to make the printer work. But I am unable to get the same working on the amlogic images. No port is created when I add the USB printer. Could it be missing UDEV rules? Or usblp driver not being loaded by the kernel? May someone give me a light? Those boxes are optimal for POS installations, and no support for ticket printing is a handicap. BTW, awesome work with all this project, it helped me a lot.

I have used the Armbian images created by Balbes150 on my VIM2 Max. Awesome software in all respects. If I use an image with the 3.14.29 kernel: 1. Framebuffer is correctly installed/configured 2. HDMI does not exist 3. Displaying EDID reported: No EDID on bus 1,2, or 4 Bus 3 doesn't really have an EDID... Couldn't find an accessible EDID on this computer However, if I use an image with the 4.16.1 kernel: 1. No framebuffer 2. HDMI detectable connected/disconnected 3. Displaying EDID detected contents correctly I wouldn't mind a 4096x4096 framebuffer so, if necessary, I can …

Hi I managed to get armbian on my Amlogic S905W device. I'd like to run the whole root fs on an external usb device (ssd). I know how to format it to ext4, mount it, but I can't manage to boot linux on it : I tried to modify the /etc/fstab file, but it seems that it's not the good place ? Perhaps a file in /boot ?

I've been trying to activate the framebuffer on a Armbian Debian-server image. The framebuffer doesn't exist on a server image but I need to be able to install it. So I thought, what about DirectFB. I've been searching the web for instructions on installing DirectFB. I need to install it and not have to burn a new image (I'm not capable). I just noticed that if I go to /boot/debian i find all the libdirectfb files. Can somebody show me (step by step) how I could install DirectFB or directly activate the framebuffer using these files? What files (including directories) to install, scripts to modify, etc. Any help would be…

Hi, This SOC is very interesting as it has a native SATA interface and Gigabit Ethernet. The boxes equipped with it (Zidoo X9S, X10, Xnano X5, Beelink SEA 1,...) can be used as a NAS because they have OpenWRT inside/with Android but it is rather limited. I'd like to use my SEA 1 with OMV under Armbian but is it possible to have dual boot on these boxes like S905x ones ?

Title says all. Is there any Armbian wiki or update summary that tells us about progress on video acceleration support ( specifically for Kodi video streaming) and Mali GPU hardware support under Ubuntu desktop? 2. Does Ubuntu desktop Armbian distros support SMP multi core processing for this Amlogic series? 3. When building An armbian image, it takes a lot of time to create u-boot and I want to understand how it is necessary to include u-boot in the image immediately. If most people don't use it, I'll disable copying it to the image when I build it. For those who will need the image with the embedded u-boot, it is possible to easily add the right version of u-boot into the existing image.

Hi, I am posting from work, so do not currently have access to my MXQ box, meaning what I am about to explain is based on last nights attempt at running Armbian from a SDCard I will try to be as detailed as I can.... I have been following a tutorial at the MXQProject website in order to install the Mate Armbian distro (5.41) onto a MXQ / S805 Android box (although I have chosen to use the XFCE distro instead). All seems to goes well, until I get to the first Armbian login prompt (the bit where I enter 'root' as the user and '1234' as the password). As I understand the MXQProject tutorial, after successfully loggi…

Hi to all, I recently purchased a COOLEME brand tvbox (but internally is marked W95T) with S905W, 2GB / 16GB of memory. The wifi chip is SV6051P. I tried to install ARMBIAN Armbian_5.37_S9xxx_Ubuntu_xenial_3.14.29_server_20180203.img and it works all very well except WIFI. I tried several DTBs, both gxl212 and gxl281, I also tried to modify them but I could not make the WIFI work. I saw that in the folder / lib / firmware there is a subfolder SSV6051 that contains a .bin file and a .cfg but I have no idea how to load them. Among other things I tried to install LibreElec and the wifi in that case works ... But I'm interested in Linux because I intend to use t…

Hello everyone I'm posting here what I did to run Armbian on a 4G LTE EM90 box. The image I'm using is armbian_5.37_S9xx_Debian_stretch_3.14.29_icewm_20171226. I extracted the dtb.img from the rooted android, I had to remove the beginning of the file to make it work. If you don't cut the file until you reach 0xD0 0D FE ED, you will get a magic number error when decompiling and Armbian will not boot with your fresh DTB. Greetings! I have an S905 based TX3. I have not really heard much at all about this box. I hear about the S905W based TX3 and another S905D based one if I recall but this is NOT THOSE. I'm running armbian on a X96 and was able to install it to the eMMC. So far no problems. The machine has 8 GB of eMMC, and that's why I want to use every free space if possible. But the partition table looks quite strange. Here is the output of cfdisk: The extended partition p4 ends at block 11567103, but p15, which is part of p4, ends at15269887. I was not able to fix this with parted's resizepart command. The resulting new partition table was not written to the eMMC. Any ideas how to fix this? p15 contains armbian, which runs fine in this configuration. Nevertheless I would like to delete unused partitions and enlarge p15. p14 could be a cand…

I am trying to compile 150 Balbes source for a customer kernel. I would like to enable CAN, VCAN and SLCAN support in the kernel. Hi guys, first post! I took the plunge and installed armbian on my android box. It boots and runs fine off SD but when I try to install to eMMC it just boots and hangs on the original Google TV splash screen. How can I tell it to boot from eMMC? I notice near the end it says four times: /dev/boot: no Android Magic Value /dev/boot: not a valid Android Boot Image. Any help appreciated thank you!

Hello, I am trying to control volume Up/Down and mute through alsamixer with no success. When launching alsamixer the only changable device is DAC Digital, but actually it does not change anything, the volume remains at "56" and won't change. It is almost not possible to control volume through alsamixer or amixer command line. The only control I have found is the mute/unmute through /sys/class/amaudio but not the volume level ! Hello, a few days ago a bought this box so that i could run Linux on it with ovpn server. The problem is that a can' t get the box to boot from sd. I tried different cards but no success, the toothpick method brings me to the recovery screen. I tested the mentioned sd's on a Beelink GT1 and they work just fine (boot Unbuntu without any problems). Can someone give me some advice on how to get this box on Linux because this is the only reason i bought this box. It would be running only Linux for 24/7, so installing linux on the box itself would also be an option. Thank you in advance for your ideas and suggestions.
