Hello to all, As I am a beginner, I apologize in advance, if I am asking questions, which are obvious for experienced users... I am trying to get WIFI working with this hardware: Odroid C4 and Odroid WIFI module #5B Realtek RTL8821CU chipset ( USB ID = 0BDA:C820, Initial CDROM mode = 0BDA:1A2B ) With the original image of Hardkernel the WIFI was working fine. Then I built this latest armbian image: Armbian_23.02.0-trunk_Odroidc4_jammy_current_6.1.8_xfce_desktop.img The build I did with this configuration: ./compile.sh BOARD=odroidc4 BRANCH=current RELEASE=jammy BUILD_MINIMAL=no BUILD_DESKTOP=yes BUILD_ONLY=default KERNEL_CONFIGURE=no…

Hello to all, In order to be able to export GPIO 414 to turn off USB-Power I wanted to unbind the USB drivers: andreas@odroidc4:~$ lsusb -t /: Bus 02.Port 1: Dev 1, Class=root_hub, Driver=xhci-hcd/1p, 5000M |__ Port 1: Dev 2, If 0, Class=Hub, Driver=hub/4p, 5000M /: Bus 01.Port 1: Dev 1, Class=root_hub, Driver=xhci-hcd/2p, 480M |__ Port 1: Dev 3, If 0, Class=Hub, Driver=hub/4p, 480M Both drivers, "xhci-hcd" and "hub" are built into the kernel. The "hub" driver exposes "bind" and "unbind" in /sys/bus/usb/drivers/hub, so no problem. But the driver "xhci-hcd" has no /sys/bus/usb/drivers/xhci-hcd directory. So I cannot unbind it. …

Hello, I tried to reduce the clock frequency with nano /etc/default/cpufrequtils. I also set the governor to userspace in order to enable direct frequency setting. But there is no effect to be seen with cpufreq-info -o except the governor is switched to "userspace" now. I also tried it with echo 500000 > /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_setspeed , but clock frequency did not change. According to the S905X3 datasheet the SoC could even run at 100Mhz... I would appreciate a hint, how to reduce clock speed way below 1GHz, in order to save power consumption Thanks a lot Andy PS: I am run…

I’m assuming this is to do with the kernel but otherwise have no idea. I’ve had no problems with this Wireguard plugin on a 32bit Libre Bullseye install on a Renegade but was unable to get 64bit Bullseye to accept login creds so opted for Armbian. Now unable to use the plugin at all. Anyone have any ideas? I’ve tried the 6.1.11 edge kernel but Wireguard broke this too. Not sure what else to try. Attempted to get Libre kernels to load without success - way above my skillset for now. TIA

I've installed Armbian 22.08 Jammy (CLI only) on a Orange Pi 3 LTS and it works like a charm but, apparently installing postgresql breaks logrotate.service... actually on reboot syslog shows the following: ... armbian-ramlog[2065]: /usr/lib/armbian/armbian-ramlog: line 153: /var/log/./postgresql/postgresql-14-main.log: Permission denied ... systemd[1]: logrotate.service: Control process exited, code=exited, status=1/FAILURE ... systemd[1]: logrotate.service: Failed with result 'exit-code'. ... systemd[1]: Failed to start Rotate log files. some things I found out after a shallow research: postgresql package post installation script …

I use a BananaPi M2 berry with bookworm, I try to install OMV but the system is complaining that I should use buster, and it won't install. How do I proceed?
-
Hiya, I've been using OMV for a year or two with no issues. There were several updates to Armbian and other packages recently which caused a number of errors and the system going to sleep on my Windows network and not waking up. Rather than try and track every error, I'll just start from scratch. Last time, the OMV install from Armbian-Config worked like a dream. Load it, update it and then click OMV in the menu. Simples! This time it runs a lot of script as before, then finishes with "error openmediavault". That's it. The web browser says "Welcome to NGINX", so something has been installed. Ive tried an install and running the Debian scrip from th…

Hi all, I am currently building a smart mirror project based on the Orange Pi 3B and I have encountered persistent booting (via sd card) issues - despite trying multiple recommended OS imgaed. Hello everyone, I am using an Orange Pi Zero 2W with a graphical user interface (GUI). I downloaded and installed the official Orange Pi Zero 2W image. Unfortunately, I keep running into a Wi-Fi connection issue. After booting, the system repeatedly asks me to enter my Wi-Fi password. If I don’t enter it, I have no internet connection. What’s interesting is: If I disable and re-enable Wi-Fi in the network manager, it automatically reconnects to the known network without asking for the password again. Alternatively, a system reboot also restores the Wi-Fi connection automatically. I have already seen o…

Why doesn’t it start automatically after I log out or reboot after installation? What is causing this issue? The official Orange Pi kernel version (Orangepizero3_1.0.4_debian_bookworm_desktop_xfce_linux6.1.31) does not have this problem and runs automatically. Instead, I get the error: “dbus can't connect to fcitx5.” Every time I need to open the fcitx5 settings again and click “Run” before I can input Chinese. I have no idea what is going on. Thanks.

Looks like the package in subject is not in the repos. However, there are other packages depending on it (explicitly indicating that the required version is >=25.8.2) so this prevents package updates. Interestingly, for the armhf target the package is available, so I suspect a build issue. Any clue?

Hi I can access my nextcloud in the firefox browser, but the client always states "signed out". From time to time there is a request in the browser to confirm access of the client to the nextcloud server. Howeveer, this doesn't seem to work. Can I post it here or is it prefered to keep it in the "anything" thread? Regards.

Just wondering if having profile-sync-daemon (psd) is causing troubles to you. After installing Armbian, I noticed that whenever I was restarting Chromium and accessing youtube, the system was asking me a login. The authentication cookies were simply disappearing after each restart of chromium. To avoid that I removed a link of my .profile directory pointing to a tmpfs filesystem (you see the tmpfs file system, use the df command). I read that it is used to avoid read/write on storage, as all I/O are done in Ram, but obviously in my case it was not really working, as I was loosing my cookies. Does anyone else uses that feature?…

This article describes how I successfully configured a PWM fan on an Orange Pi 5 Max running Armbian Debian Trixie Minimal vendor 6.1.115, using the opifancontrol utility. Special thanks to Jamie Sinclair for creating and sharing the opifancontrol project with the community. I have an Orange Pi 5 Max installed in a metal case and running several Docker containers, including Frigate, Immich, Samba, and others. The case originally came with a internal 30x30x10 mm fan, which was not able to provide sufficient cooling. Under load, CPU temperatures were reaching nearly 70°C. To improve cooling, I installed an external 40x40x10 mm PWM fan that was o…

I have LicheeRV Nano (version B), which is a RISC-V computer with SOPHGO SG2002 CPU. Someone ported Debian onto it. In the official Armbian Radxa Rock 5C Gnome image (nobel) the WiFi hardware is detected, but in the server image (nobel) the WiFi hardware is not detected. Edit. I see I can use WiFi in armbian-config, but it does not show up in gnome on the server image.

Hello, not sure if this should go under beginners, or this section but trying here. I have now set my armbian-config to rolling updates so I get the good beta stuff. Situation: I have no hard evidence of how often this actually happens, but it seems that every time i go and do armbian-upgrade, which I have performed yesterday and today, but also few days ago, I get the same 9 updates every time, armbian-bsp-cli-orangepiplus-current armbian-config armbian-firmware-full armbian-zsh base-files linux-dtb-current-sunxi linux-headers-current-sunxi linux-image-current-sunxi linux-u-boot-orangepiplus-current Is this…

Hi! I'm new in the forum, so I don't know if this is a bug or just a feature request. The idea is `armbian-upgrade` also runs dkms install, you know, like Ubuntu, so the zfs kernel module will be automatically building together with the kernel upgrade. Please, let me hear your thoughts about this. Maybe there is a flag to enable this already, or an open bug to implement the feature.

I need to install some stuff on armbian system, which is installed on SD card and it runs on Orangepi PC board. It includes some sripts, Python libraries, etc and some of them require to be compiled on the fly, and it takes several hours when running on Orange PI. So my idea is to mount SD card on PC and run/chroot into installed system with qemu on Linux. So I will get much better performance and all neccesary steps will be performed much faster. Is it even possible to do that? After installation finishes, SD card will be again used to operate on OrangePI PC board.

Guys i have an orange pi zero 3 4GB RAM version, with armbian ubuntu running currently with a static ip, and i have installed a vpn service on it and it works wonderfully, but it barely uses all the cores and the ram, so i was wondering about using some kind of virtual machine service like qemu-kvm, lxd or even docker to run virtual machines inside. I know many would say go for docker, although what i need is something closer to a VM than to a container, because i need these VMs to have their very own static ips connected to the network and isolated from the others yet able to send and receive traffic between them and the network, i have read that this kind of behav…

Thanks, Armbian for supporting users like us with community backed OS for SBCs which otherwise are struggling to maintain the OS software in synergy with their hardware product portfolio. The whole SBC paradigm revolves around accessing GPIO either as Inputs, Outputs, UARTs, SPI or I2C. If the main focus/priority is to get the UI up and running, there would be no difference between mainstream rooted phones/tablets and SBC. As a general observation, I have almost always struggled to run gpio based python scripts out of the box after loading minimal OS for multiple SBCs. As a humble request on behalf of whole community is to propose readiness for GPI…

My TV is being weird. I adjusted the taskbar so it’s not off screen, although I didn’t think about the minimize/maximize/etc being cut off. I tried looking around for a solution but didn’t find topics with solutions that worked. My TV is funky and doesn't have a video adjustment menu, so I can’t do that. And the resolutions available are supposed to be supported by my tv. Am I able to set screen boundaries, like a screen safe area so the display is not cut-off? If it’s not possible, it would make a nice feature.

I have Armbian 24.8.4 running on my CubieTruck. I wanted to experiment with running an access point on it, and was able to configure and run hostapd to do so. But now I want it to be a Wi-Fi client again and it appears that I royally screwed something up while playing with hostapd. When I run armbian-config and select the Network option, nothing about Wi-Fi shows up any more. Any suggestions where to start to get things back to how they were out-of-the-box? A reinstall is not an option.

I wanted to try out running a Servarr stack. I decided to go the usenet route, so I installed SABnzbd. It created "/armbian/sabnzbd" and three directories under that, "config", "download" and "incomplete", which matches the recommenations. Next, I installed Sonarr for TV, which created "/armbian/sonarr" and three directories under that, "config", "download" and "tvseries". While "/armbian/sonarr" and "/armbian/sabnzbd" are owned by my user, the "download" directory and "tvseries" directories were owned by root. So, I changed the ownership to my user, but it still wasn't working right. I read up on how these containers are supposed to i…

I normally like building server images because they are small and fast to compile. An then I can add the wanted desktop by "sudo apt install gnome" or other desktop later. But, sometimes I wonder if the desktop images have more features, like hardware drivers, than a server image with an added desktop afterwards. Can this be the case? Or does server images contain the same drivers and hardware support as a image built with a destop included?

Hi! I'm trying to build a cluster of a few Odroid N2+, with Microk8s. I installed and tested it on the first board that I'm designating as the primary node. Now I'd like to setup the others, how do I configure the primary board as a gateway for the others? The primary board has a WiFi connection with internet access, the ethernet connection is then shared with the other boards with a different subnet. I'm very rusty with linux/ubuntu as I haven't used it in years now. I followed this guide (https://linuxhint.com/enable_ip_forwarding_ipv4_debian_linux/) and enable the routing on the main board. Then in t…

Hello I wanted to post on here regarding a new project we have been working on called SimpNAS. Its similar to OpenMediaVault or FreeNAS but simpler and more basic. Its currently in Beta but we are looking to have a stable release by the time Kobol ARM NAS gets released. It can be installed on armbian devices as long as it has two hard drives one for the OS and one for Data. For example we have it installed on an ODroid HC2, but can be installed on any PC. Feedback will be greatly appreciated.

Background - I have a Helios64 NAS with 4 x HDDs running Armbian 25.11.2 with kernel 6.12.58. The HDDs each have a ZFS partition but the partitions aren't imported. The OS is running from an sd card and logging is to ram. Power management and spin-down on the HDDs is disabled. Despite all this *something* is causing the heads to move every second or two. iotop shows no disk activity . lsof +d /mnt/sda etc. shows no open files and fatrace shows files in /usr and /var but nothing on /dev/sda etc. So, whilst it doesn't look as if any files are being accessed the HDDs are still doing something. The question is WHA…

Every time I tried to log on to ssh on my rock-s0 with armbian, there would be a delay of like 5 seconds. I found a solution that fixes this problem. This thread is partly a PSA about this solution, and a question about whether this solution is a good idea or not. The trick is to change UsePAM=yes , to UsePAM=no , in the /etc/ssh/sshd_config file. But I heard some people online say this is a bad idea, but I don't understand PAM enough to know why. I am only going to use ssh in a basic password-authenticated, LAN environment. Do I really need PAM? The only side-effect I noticed is that it no longer shows the MOTD when logging in.

I had to install (they were missing) sshfs, then fuse and finally ssh on a bpi-m5, using a 128Gb u-sd as boot media. iso was noble from a week ago's download, and updated at 2nd boot after establishing my /etc/hosts file based network. I can ssh from it /to/ the main box w/o any problem. But any attempt to reverse into it /from/ another machine /to/ it is "connection reset by peer". I haven't touched /etc/ssh/*config's from default values. Is there something I need to set/reset in those files to restore incoming logins? And no, I do not enable root logins. Also, systemd is still a puzzle to me if its involved. Thanks for any advice.

Hi all. I am trying to autologin and auto startx BSPWM but all I get is a black screen when calling startx. I even gave execute permissions to .xinitrc (below). #!/bin/sh . /etc/X11/Xsession polybar default & sxhkd & exec bspwm It happens if I manually call it, and even when I explicitly tell it to start bspwm (i.e. startx bspwm). If anybody needs a simple way to check text on the web or extract text from online PDFs on low‑spec SBCs, here is surf.py. Starts with: ./surf.py domain.com Dependencies outside standard library: requests, PyPDF2. surf.py

I know this might get ignored, but honestly, I don’t really mind. I just want to report something I noticed a few days ago, which I initially thought was caused by my previous setup. I was running a Radxa CM5 with a Waveshare CM4 Nano-C board, using an Armbian image for the Rock 5A. This was the only way I could get it working with mainline support. I’m aware this setup is far from standard I’m essentially using the wrong image but that’s because the Radxa CM5 IO board isn’t compatible with the Waveshare Nano board. On top of that, Armbian doesn’t officially support the CM5 RPi-CM4 IO board provided by Radxa (which does work with the Waveshare Nano, but their imag…
