Hi, yesterday i did as usual an apt-get update/upgrade on my Armbian 19.11.3 (on a good old and always well working Bananapi M1). After that the desktop starts, but without showing the taskbar anymore. It was some kind of invisible, when i clicked the the upper left corner, the menu drops down. Unfortunately nearly nothing starts by clicking. The preferences are shown without any icons. Ok, time for a fresh install. I took the latest stable image Armbian Bionic 19.11.6 and put it on a SD card. System starts in console mode, i did all the setup stuff and installed the desktop. But the fresh installed desktop also started without the taskba…

  2. Following a successful deployment of an MCP2515 SPI to CAN device with the great help of https://forum.armbian.com/topic/3588-can-bus-support-orange-pi-zero/ I’ve been looking into using an SPI to CANFD device with the orangePi R1 (H2+ based). (CANFD allows greater bitrate than the “regular” CAN) I am looking into using the driver made for the mcp2517fd/mcp2518fd, which has been submitted but not yet linux mainlined: https://github.com/msperl/linux-rpi/tree/upstream-v5.0-rc3-mcp25xxfd-v6.11/drivers/net/can/spi/mcp25xxfd This driver seems to be functional with the raspberry pi, and an example of PCB and associated overlay can be seen here: https://github.com/…

  4. In the latest image for NanoPi M1 Plus, I enable the analog audio I/O on the card by adding overlays=analog-codec in /boot/armbianEnv.txt But the microphone on the card is disabled by default, because the ALSA control "Mic1 Playback Switch" is set to false by default on the card. Worse still, this mixer control does not appear in the alsamixer GUI, and the only way to set to true is to use the amixer command line utility, for example with: amixer cset name="Mixer Capture Switch" on on I can do this inside a first boot script, and then ALSA will persist the state between reboots. But does not seem ideal, and took me a very long time to …

  8. Edit: Issue is solved, see here. It's an application problem but according to an extensive Google research this does not seem to be a common problem of Samba, so it might be an integration problem with the environment it is running in. The setup: Armbian 19.11.6 (Debian Buster) running the current kernel on a NanoPi M4V2, offering network shares via Samba. Clients are Windows 10 and a BananaPi running Armbian (Debian Buster 4.19.y kernel) as well. The observation: When downloading (large) files from the Samba share to Windows 10, the download speed very often suddenly drops down to zero and stays on that rate (forever). This can be best…

Hi everyone, I'm an experienced Debian user but it's my first time with Armbian running on an Orange Pi Zero. I'd like to make it a DB node by running MySQL. As there is no MySQL available in the apt repository, I tried MariaDB but during the installation (tried multiple times) I don't get asked for a password and need to run mysql --skip-grant-tables which leads to db failure, permission problems (like root can access without password while all the other users are blocked). Installation from source code fails due to limited memory. How can I seamlessly get mysql-server to work on Armbian?

  10. So i recently bought an Orange Pi 3 and the place where I want to set it up only has a VGA monitor, that's why I decided to buy this generic HDMI to VGA adapter. The adapter works correctly with my laptop but I'm having some issues using it with the Orange Pi 3, the adapter does have video output but it randomly loses the signal and goes to black and after a short time it comes back. I initially suspected it was having some power delivering issues, so I decided to plug in an old MP3 charger I had (500mA) to the micro USB port in the adapter (which is there for this cases, I think), but even with external power connected to the adapter it still loses the signal from time t…

  12. OrangePi Zero headless server Debian Buster with Armbian Linux 4.19.62-sunxi armbianmonitor http://ix.io/26Dp Selected to install Sonarr in armbian-config which completes without error, but armbian-config does not indicate that Sonarr is now installed (i.e., I can still select it and do the whole thing again). Appears that armbian-config installs Sonarr as a service, but it doesn't appear to be running after I reboot (http://192.168.1.99:8989 gives error connection refused). Looks like Sonarr relies on mono, but mono has not been installed at /usr/bin/mono. Did I fail to do some required post-armbian-config steps?

  19. Hi, I am using Armbian 5.90 on an BananaPi as a RTL-TCP server for an RTL-SDR stick which plugs in the USB port. Everything work fine since more than a year. Now since one of the latest updates, the RTL-TCP server doesn't work anymore 24/7. After a while, I can not connect to the server anymore. I studied the logs and it seems, that kernel/udev/upowerd powers off the USB-port where the RTL-SDR stick is plugged. The stick reinitializes, but the binding of the stick to the running server gets lost. There seems to be something new to the kernel/system which cyclically drops the USB connection to my stick. What is the supported way, if any, to redirect /var/log.hdd to a directory located on a real HDD drive? One of my systems has an eMMC to boot and operate from, and a HDD hooked up on the USB3 port. "Ideally" I'd like to use only the HDD, but the poor/incomplete USB3 boot support on the Rock64 V2 (with Bionic at least) had me to buy an eMMC and live quietly with it. As it is, I'd like to move out of the eMMC all the data that is either written often, or that it could get bigger with time passing. For the logs, however, I don't think to have found a clean way to support the relocation of /var/log.hdd on a different drive/partition, unless I hack the armbian-raml…

I have added in the following lines: echo ds1307 0x68 > /sys/class/i2c-adapter/i2c-7/new_device hwclock -f /dev/rtc -s Could be a possible reason that hwclock is already linked with internal RTC? While reading about similar problems with different boards I discovered that the ttyS3 / UART3 is not enabled on my device, at least "dmesg | grep ttyS3" does not find anything, while "dmesg | grep ttyS0" and "dmesg | grep ttyS1" does show that these devices are enabled. There adding the lines "overlays=uart3" / "param_uart3_rtscts=1" helped them, but these lin…

I am experiencing frequent kernel panics with the RockPro64 board and assume it could be a power consumption issue with the SSD (PCIe NVMe M.2). I tested a variety of different SSDs, with the Cruzial P1 being the most reliable. Is it possible to manually throttle an SSD within Armbian, forcing it to consume less power? In my case, peak performance is not really important. This would allow me to further validate my thesis. Thanks in advance for any suggestions!
