Hello. I'm using armbian on my orange win plus. I'm using it with an external hard drive, which has 3 TB of disk space. My orange has a sd card with 32 gigs of storage. I'll soon be adding a 4 port M4 SATA hat (Marvell 88SE9215) to a NanoPiM4V2 and was wondering if it will be supported in the current release of ARMBIAN? Or, will I need to build a new image? If so, what driver might I need to add to the kernel config? pi@raid:~$ uname -a Linux raid 5.8.17-rockchip64 #20.08.21 SMP PREEMPT Sat Oct 31 08:22:59 CET 2020 aarch64 aarch64 aarch64 GNU/Linux

Hi guys, I try to reinstall my tvheadend, but unfortunately it always tells me suddenly some depencies which I can't solve. libhdhomerun4 (>= 20200521) But it's installed and in Buster stable only available: libhdhomerun4:armhf (20180327-1) When i try to install it manuelly, then there is the next depency to libc-bin and so on... a never ending story. Actually tvheadend worked already quite well, but suddenly it stopped working. So I thought maybe it's the best idea to reinstall tvheadend. And now there is even bigger trouble.

Hi everyone, I am trying to set up the Access Point on my Orange Pi Zero running Armbian_20.08.1_Orangepizero_focal_current_5.8.5. I am using the onboard wifi module. I have tried the next approaches: 1) I have tried https://orangepiweb.es/wifi-access-point.php and I can see my board as access point, but I can't connect. (I am receiving AP-STA-DISCONNECTED after handshake complete) 2) I have tried configuring it by sudo armbian-config but dnsmasq fails to start, so I can see my board as access point, but I can't connect. So I'm trying to debug a 32 bit C compiler circa 1983 that only compiles in 32 bit. I have the compiler working in Linux Ubuntu 18.04 and later with multiverse (32 bit) support installed. I thought to myself PI OS would have to be one the most popular used and supported 32 bit OS, so let's compile and debug the the 32 application in a complete 32 environment. However on the PI OS 32 bit while I have managed to compile to compiler with no issues it doesn't execute and gets seg faults. No problem I can debug it! Except I can't because if I use the debugger via Geany or directly it complains it can't find variables higher up …

Hi I have used Armbian quite a bit now for various projects with great success and even debugged my own hard-to-solve issues. I am considering using an H3 based board (OrangePi + 2E) to replace the cheap junk media player I use. Incidentally Armbian will run on that device, but I am not sure what the video support is like- its a RockChip RK3xxx series SoC. Now, out of the box, Armbian (Buster, Focal, etc..) video playback stutters on Full HD (720p and up) content, particularly at full screen. I understand this is because I need to install a binary blob driver for the GPU? I've done this on normal desktop PCs before running Ubuntu, which is very easy to do, h…

Hi. Finally have the time to get into this, and find the biggest problem i am having right now is conceptual. What is Softy? Why is it needed? Why is it better than installing from apt with a repository? How is its installed software managed, including updates? Also, I understand that there is no uninstall feature. In which case, how do manage system recovery? Say I install docker and omv and I've set up other bits and pieces like wifi and ssh, then I mistakenly install desktop. I want to uninstall desktop... It looks like I need to bust back down to a clean image and start again. Do wiser heads have a good strategy to handle …

Hi I have an Odroid HC1 which has been happily running along for a while now. The OS has been moved onto the SATA drive I used arminian-config to run the updates but the reboot failed. I found this post which may be related but I am not sure. As the OS is on the SATA drive I can't log in to check what is happening with the data drive. I attached a small video to that post to show what is happening with the HC1's lens when I attempt to boot it. I really need to get this server back up as it has my Nextcloud instance on it. Any help appreciated Jon

When I run a checksum on both "...desktop.img.xz and .....desktop.img", the "...desktop.img.xz" matches the posted .sha doc's checksum. But when I run the "...desktop.img" checksum, it does NOT match the posted .sha doc checksum. I've always checked just the .img or .iso image against the posted checksum, never previously against the '..desktop.img.xz' image. Thx.

Hi, i am using a tinkerboard s to run pihole, wireguard and a maria database. It worked quite a while without any issues. Just after I had to start over with the tinkerboard, the issues began. My main issue is, that after I restart the tinkerboard i do not get access right away to the internet. I have to open the pihole admin webpage first, just then I am able to get a normal internet connection. That works then without issues until another restart. I addressed my issue already in the pihole forum and the moderator suggested to ask here since in his opinion it might be an issue with the privacy extension of IPv6. I am honestly no expert and stru…

Hello all! First of all, apologies for being such a noob but I am very eager to get started and there may be some ambiguous language here as a result. I am getting started in Armbian Linux Buster on the Pine A64+ and for my first project I'd like to program a 7 segment display (four digits) to display descending numbers from 1000. As you may know, 7-segment displays with more than one digit require the display to operate at a certain frequency in order to display multiple digits as a result of the common anode/cathode configuration. I have already played around with a simple LED and have gotten it to light up in armbian linux buster on the A64 (by defining the…

Hello I have a working armbian image working well on mi "LePotato", but now I need to use the SPI interface to communicate with a sensor, however I see no spi on /dev/. If this is the wrong place to ask, please feel free to redirect me to another location. I'm thinking about using an SBC to create an application-specific coprocessor. A laptop would stream h.264/h.265 2kx2.5k yuv420p compressed video thru USB to the SBC (functioning as a USB gadget with separate power supply) and the SBC would decompress the video frames, apply a sequence of affine transforms to each (decompressed) image, and stream the warped, decompressed images back to the host. This would use the SBC hardware-assisted VPU decompression and GPU for warp processing, and the Arm CPU side would manage the YUV420p-RGB conversion and buffered super-speed USB t…

So, some time ago I made some custom changes to DTB to get the OV5640 camera working on a Banana Pi M2 Zero. I was successful, and made notes on the files that I changed. Now, I'm working with the same source tree, but cleaned out. So I wanted to make my changes again because I did not know about CREATE_PATCHES then. So, i built my new image, and made the changes to the dts files. But now, /dev/media0 does not show up. I have 2 boards. One with my prior image that is fully functioning (Board A), a new one that is missing /dev/media0 (Board B). First thing I did was compare the kernel configs. They are identical. For fun, I copied the kernel from…

Hi all. For gaming on the Raspberry Pi 4 there is nothing better(opinion) than TwisterOS. It is Raspberry Pi OS with a lot preinstalled tools for gaming. Also very nice skins to make your OS look like old Windows versions, or even MacOS. You can play old Windows games with it thanks to Box86 + wine which is preinstalled and configured. Also native x86 Linux games run amazingly well with it. There is a Steam client preinstalled. Is must say I've never used it, since I've never used/liked Steam. You can download TwisterOS here : https://twisteros.com The official TwisterOS reviewer on Youtube is @Salvador Liébana and his colleague from Pi Labs : https:/…

Hi there. Is there any way to set hostname of freshly installed board with armbian-config not in menu, but from command line ? armbian-config --help gives some examples, but not for this case. In the past I used a lower end Sandisk's and used external flash drive with nand-sata-install to move system due to endurance. What is the status as of today? Are Sandisk Ultra A1's better than flash drives (i.e. not special "high endurance" ones). I need to ask because the installation is not easy to reach (another part of the city) and current problems may be because of flash failure (didn't get my hand on the devices yet). Any pointers will be much appreciated. PS: I found this today, very interesting read... https://www.delkin.com/technology/flash-endurance/

Hi all, I'm trying to port a driver built for Raspberry Zero to Banana Pi M2 Zero. The original driver is here : https://github.com/pguyot/tagtagtag-ears (it's supposed to drive the ears of a Nabaztag, which recently got resurected thanks to an Ulule campaign). My understanding is that at least half of the problem is to adapt the device tree overlay for the BPI M2 Zero. If it"s not half of the work, it's definitely required. So far I've been unsuccessful. The original DTS overlay is like this : /dts-v1/; /plugin/; / { compatible = "brcm,bcm2708"; fragment@0 { target = <&gpio>; __overlay__ { gpio_encoder_left_…

So I have link in proximity for two of the three binaries I need to get, and the third buried in grey on black text at the bottom of the page where nobody will see it and instead they will feel compelled to go out to find it on their own. Are 7z files really enough smaller than bz2 that it's worth this?

Current Hardware Setup: Rockpi 4C,eMMC module,eMMC to SD Card Adapter, M.2 Extension Board, NVME Drive, USB To Serial Debug Cable. OS: Armbian_20.08.1_Rockpi-4b_focal_current_5.8.6.img.xz (Right now, I'm using the above mentioned os from sdcard and the os can detect nvme disk using 'lsblk' command) Query: How one can install '/boot' partition on eMMC (or sdcard) and '/' (root-partition) on NVME disk (attached to rockpi 4c through M.2 Extension Board) ? (aim is to boot from either eMMC or ssd and use nvme disk as / partition) Waiting for your valuable suggestions. Thanks in advance from, Spherulite.

Hi folks, I have a samll problem with my NanoPi M4. I connected an amplifier with some speakers to the 3.5mm Audio Jack. When I try to play something with mpc or ffplay, I only here some (maybe white) noise on the speakers. Stopping the playback, and the speakers are quiet again. Output of aplay -l: /etc/asound.conf: Has anybody any idea, where I should have a look next? Greetings Sven

Good day, I hope i'am posting into the correct subforum, anyway i just wanted to know if the armbian OS can support a USB Webcam, because I'm writing a research about the feasibility of this OS + plus board to be an alternative to laptops to cater basic educational operations like, video conferencing(google meet) , word processing , spreadsheet and presentation workload. Apologies to my written english as it's not my native language. Thanks! Mike

Hi! I've been running two sbc (Odroid HC2) for about 1,5 years. I recently realised that the os it is running on is outdated (Debian Stretch with Armbian Linux 4.14.150-odroidxu4). There is a nextcloud instance running on it and I really (!) like the stability of my setup. So far, I've had one (1) crash in 1,5 years on a system that is running 24/7, maybe heat related in the hot summer. Reboot automatically once a week, nightly off-site backup, login via ssh-keys. So my question is...: Shall I update and if yes shall I do this from a fresh install or is there a built-in way? Thanks!

Hello Armbian, how does kernel update procedure work? There is the script [1] that indicates that kernel was updated. Is that updating procedure automatic? When does that happen? Has it user under the control? Many thanks for clarification. Rostislav [1] https://github.com/armbian/build/blob/master/packages/bsp/common/etc/profile.d/armbian-check-first-login-reboot.sh

I have compiled and installed it (v5.9)I have also updated the initramfs, but still when I boot I see on screen with uname-r the older kernel 4.9.7. I'm running Armbian 20.08.1 (Ubuntu) in NanoPi NEO3, and after running sbc-bench,sh benchmark, the temperature does not revert to the idle temperature for several hours until exactly 4am. The system was idle all that time, until a small CPU usage spike at 4am. That's because it rebooted at that time, maybe due to a short power failure. So what confuses me a lot is why the idle temperature will get back to around 60C only after a reboot. 11 hours of idle time would not do it, but a simple reboot would magically drop the temperature by close to 15C.

I have a couple NanoPi (Neo, Neo 3, R2S, Neo 2 Black) devices and recently I wanted to tinker with trying to get them to be an IP KVM. The hang-up I hit is that I can't get g_hid to work. I am in way over my head but usually my google-fu gets me through. I can't find what I am looking for and it seems that most of the posts on the forum were from 2017 when there was an issue with the kernel that was supposed to be resolved. I am running Armbian 20.08.7 Bionic with Linux 5.8.13-sunxi on a NanoPi Neo (H3) but the error is on all of the devices. Anyway, the error I am getting is: root@nanopineo:~# modprobe g_hid modprobe: ERROR: could not insert 'g_hid': No…

Hello, According to the changelogs on https://docs.armbian.com/Release_Changelog/, the 20.08 version on September upgrade the EspressoBin to the Kernel 5.6 and the next version 20.08.3 it was updated to the 5.8 kernel. When I go to the archives for the Espressobin (https://archive.armbian.com/espressobin/archive/) I cannot find the 5.6 version. Is there any reasons for that or is a missing link? Last week I downloaded the checksum for armbian20.05.2_Orangepiplus2e_buster_current_5.4.43_desktop.img.xz and checked the checksum that came with the download. The .img checksum downloaded with the image and the checksum I ran were the same. When I check the online checksum here on armbian.com under downloads, sha, TODAY, the checksum is different. Is there any reason for me to believe that my original checksum and download may have been corrupted? I realize I can just re-download the image now, but whose to say that the one posted now is correct and not the previous one (while maybe both correct/fine)? I know that checksums can change over time,…

Greetings everyone. I have sucessfully used Armbian Bionic in a production environment. Its really great. I am now evaluating Armbian Buster and I am seeing a strange issue perhaps you can direct me where to look so I can do troubleshooting. With the board connected to our corporate network, it takes about 48 hours when the whole board (OrangePi+ 2E) will crash with the CPU burning up. The second time it happened I had htop running to try and diagnose the problem. Investigation revealed that rngd became unstable due to the nm-applet. This led me to re-running the known conditions when this happens, with the network disconnected and now it doesn't cras…

Hi. I am running OpenVPN, Samba and Plex with Armbian on my rockpis. I want to make a docker image from it. I am new to docker and I searched and found that I could make an image from Docker file or commiting in a container. I thought that commiting in container was easier for me. So I am reluctant to start to install those. Is it ok to install OpenVPN, Samba and Plex with the image? Or which docker image should use? …

Hello everyone, I have a nanopi r2s running the latest minimal focal image, and I'm having trouble with the network configuration. Context: I have an intranet connected to the LAN port (lan0), and my home network connected to the WAN port (eth0). I have two HC1s both running Armbian 10. Both of them respond to uname -r with: 4.14.187-odroidxu4 Yesterday, I rebooted one of them, and immediately started seeing errors. These turned out to be attributable to missing modules. The only directory in /lib/modules was 4.14.198-odroidxu4 which does not match the kernel version. The other HC1 still had a directory /lib/modules/4.14.187-odroidxu4. Prior to the reboot both systems were working. How can this happen? My quick solution was to copy the 4.14.187-odroidxu4 directory from the working HC1 to the failed HC1, which solved the problems, at least for the time being. But what is the correct so…

rk3288.txtHi all, I stumbled across a board which may be of interest for one of my next projects. Here you can find a link to it, it is model JLD076 I have the board already on my desk, and as it is really well equipped with loads of interfaces, I would love to get Armbian working on it. J have attached the boot log from console to the message, it uses Uboot 2017, and seems to be based on a standard Rockchip eval board. Onboard peripherials are handled by the usual suspects: ethernet by RTL8211, WiFi by RTL8732, and some of the display links by ALC6540. eMMC is fixed on the baord, so RKUSB is needed (can be invoked by Uboot command or bu…

QUESTION: I downloaded the BUSTER image (19.11.6 / 5.4.8) .img. In my .GNUPG directory, there is only an empty 'private keys' directory. Is this supposed to be like this or should there be 2 'text' documents next to the 'private keys' directory? One of my former buster downloads from a year ago or so, I know there were 2 simple text documents in the .gnupg directory. I am trying to learn how to send an encrypted message using gpg, but haven't been successful, yet. I was thinking that maybe there is a problem with my .gnupg directory and this is why I'm running into a snag with it. Thank you.
