I'm running Armbian buster on an Orange Pi PC plus single board computer. In Armbian Stretch I used to be able to use the analogue output in stereo mode so I could use this sbc as a music player, but after upgrading to Buster pavucontrol only gives me the following option for analogue sound output (the other Built-in audio source is HDMI audio wich works fine in stereo mode but I'm not using): I would highly appreciate if someone could help me fix this issue. I have already tried reinstalling pulseaudio and copying the configuration files from the previous Stretch installation, but didn't have any luck with that.

I've installed Armbian on my brand new Odroid N2. I realise it still is WIP, but almost everything works great. There is just one issue, which prevents me from setting it up the way I want. I use my eMMC card to boot the system. I've also added a larger A1 SD card for application data. However, after a reboot the SD card isn't recognized. There isn't even a message about it in dmesg log. But when, after booting, I remove the SD card and insert it, all of the sudden it's detected and mounted. Does anyone know how I kan make this happen at boot, so I don't need to physically access the device in order to use it after a reboot?

Hi, I was building a new image for my win and noticed this: https://github.com/cilynx/rtl88x2BU_WiFi_linux_v5.3.1_27678.20180430_COEX20180427-5959 Deprecation notice. Hello, I have been trying for a few weeks to get this LCD dsiplay (Store Wiki) to work with the NanoPi Neo Air. The display driver required is apparently the ST7789V. I was able to get the pair to work using this image supplied by FriendlyArm. https://drive.google.com/open?id=1CAKS1BNGk6vbAsPy5HmeGdO4FPZkvksz However, the OS introduces other issues to my setup and I don't want to depart from our beloved Armbian. at last I know the hardware working and wired correctly. I think I need a custom kernel, but I'm not sure. This thread mentioned the display I am using and talked about building a custom kernel. I got the build env up ran a kernel b…

So I just got my Orange Pi Prime board today and I tried the Ubuntu Bionic desktop image on it. (Armbian 20.02.3 Bionic current 5.4.18 desktop) Things didn't go like I expected... When I got into the desktop, all I saw was a missing taskbar, a white background (instead of a grey one) with a penguin on it. However, all the items on the taskbar worked normally. I thought that wasn't much until I tried to open Chromium, the whole window was white and I couldn't interact with it. I couldn't open the terminal either (clicking on its entry in the menu didn't launch it) I was shocked as I thought something was wrong with my board. So I told myself …

Hi all, I had a need to install the latest version of Postgres possible across my various boards ( Nanopi4 v1 and v2 and a raspberry pi ) the only way I could find to do this, is, compile from source, I came across this howto written for the Ras Pi but it works perfectly for the other boards Here is the link https://blog.rustprooflabs.com/2019/07/postgresql-postgis-install-from-source-raspberry-pi

I have an Odroid N2 connected to my TV via HDMI, 1920x1080. This works with the Ubuntu 18.04 Mate OS. In order to not block my TV for hours making it useless to my family, I would like to use my PC monitor instead (DVI/VGA, resolution 1680x1050). There are two entries in the file boot.ini regarding the resolution and interface. Currently it is set to the default (1920x1080, HDMI). Is it required to change both values to 1680x1050 and DVI or is it just sufficient to change the resolution ? Of course, I'll loose the sound. The result, however, is a headless server running a Nextcloud instance at home, so sound doe…

Hi. I bought some time ago a OPi One and a OPi PC. Yesterday i tried to setup them with armbian without success until I switched images from one to another and...it worked. I think that the download page for each should be fixed ( 5.4.20 image ). Made me crazy as a beginner until I figured out, tried different micro sd cards, different power supplies... Sorry for my english. Many thanks for developers who makes something stable for this boards.

I realised, that my OrangePI Plus 2E doing the logrotate of /var/log.hdd and not /var/log dir I'm using: root@orangepiplus2e:~# lsb_release -a Distributor ID: Debian Description: Debian GNU/Linux 10 (buster) Release: 10 Codename: buster root@orangepiplus2e:~# uname -r 5.3.13-sunxi In my dir /etc/logrotate.d/ I realised that in every file standing: /var/log.hdd/.... as a path for logrotate even if I change to /var/log/... everytime when I restart my box. Not posting everything I've tried, just wanted to ask a question of people experienced with the H3. Does it really support slave I2S in the mainline kernel? I've seen it posted in multiple forums that it does, and the datasheet and user manual says it does, but I can not get it working. Has anyone seen this work in person? I had to hack up the sun4i-i2s.c driver around mclk / bclk generation to make it happy just to even try it, and confirmed that all register settings look good. But the DMA just doesn't seem to transfer data when in clock slave mode. It doesn't seem like any cpu using sun4i-i2s should work in clock slave mode.

I want to do some debugging in the Orange Pi Lite 2 and it requires the ability to output the kernel log to the serial console. I am using an Arduino as a TTL-to-USB serial converter (shorting the Reset and GND pins) with the TX pin from the OPi Lite 2 UART header connected to RX on the Arduino (Digital pin 0), the RX pin from OPi connected to Arduino's TX (Digital pin 1), and Ground to Ground. I tried to enable the serial console by enabling all the UART overlays in armbian-config (ruart, uart1, uart2, uart3), setting the "console" environment variable to "ttyS0,115200", setting the "loglevel" variable to "7" and disabling the login on ttyS0 by executing the …

Hello, Armbian devs, I have customized a kernel for an existing Armbian system. I wish I can replace the kernel on the system directly without going throught Armbian build system. According to what Martinayotte told me, there are 3 symbolic link to kernel image, dtbs, and uInitrd actually to boot. While I have done first 2, and I know that I have to do "mkimage" to generate a u-boot compatible uinitrd for sure. But... How can I produce the original initramfs, first? I trace the log of Armbian build system and found out it's generated by update-iniramfs command. But the environment is wiped out after it's done. I'm not sur…

Hey folks, I know I should rather post in the OMV forums, but those are in maintenance until next week, maybe someone here uses OMV on a HCx. I flashed the Armbian minimal image, booted, SSHd into it, ran updates, ran the OMV install script and rebooted. Now I still can SSH into the HC1, but the there is no OMV interface running for the browser. During the OMV installation it complained something about something like openmediavault-flashmedia or something but apart from that finished successfully as far as I can tell. Here's the output in the console windows as far as I can scroll back: Spoiler - directory mask = 0700 - …

But when I try to install again, I get this errors: If I try to do an apt Upgrade I receive the following error: alexantao@NAS:~$ sudo apt up…

I have one problem a bit hard to explain. I had a monitor with VGA, and that was working with my Orange Pi Plus 2e, but I had to change the monitor to DVI and the screen doesn't work anymore. I can't see anything. even if I try to run with my television (32'') i can see the screen when it's loading the armbian (the commands), but when it tries to open the GUI I cannot see anymore. I want to cancel the autologin to GUI to change the size to use the command line to change the screen size, but I have no idea how to do it, I didn't find anyway to do that. Anyone has any idea?

Hello, Amrbian devs, Thank you for the efforts first. I'm fiddling with some of SBC including PineH64, Rock Pi4... Sometimes, I have to provide a new kernel or add modules. So after the kernel modules are installed. How can I edit boot loader to start it. I discover /boot/boot.cmd and boot.scr contains a line "DO NOT EDIT THIS FILE" So how can I start another kernel image? Is the init ramdisk is required? Thank you.

At 19:54:55 kernel crash happens. That for some reason forces system to change time to Aug 24 1978. systemd reacts to that situation strangely, which puts system under unresponsive state, like infinite loop, potentially causing 100% cpu occupation (this is guess now) The printouts "Aug 24 07:45:10 ptc_lab_collab3_node17 systemd[20635]: Time has been changed" follows many times per second until node is rebooted manually. I been running my own images with great success thanks to rock solid build environment but one thing that catches me by surprise every now and then is that updating the system can also overwrite my custom kernel, which is is far from ideal. Up until now I been issuing an apt hold command for the packages but I was thinking maybe there is a better way. Because even with the hold in place if I don't pay close attention and do an apt dist-upgrade for example they will still be replaced despite the hold. Is there a better way to prevent my kernels from being updated by the stock kernel? Cheers!

Hello, I'm actually working on the implementation of the MAX9860 Mono Audio Voice Codec in the devicetree. TheTLV320AIC3204 audio codec works fine and the operating system (Linux embedded) can see it with the command "aplay -l". So in the kernel, i have activated the MAX9860 audio codec, however, i don't know how to declare it in the device tree next to my TLV codec. So i have tried something like this in my i2c node: max9860: max9860@10 { compatible = "maxim,max9860"; reg = <0x10>; clocks = <&max9860_clock>; clock-names = "mclk"; supply-av = <®_aud_avdd>; su…

Hi all, I can't find any documentation (i prob just don't know where to look), so just a quick question: I have a Mi Box S, and i can run Armbian fine on it, it uses "booti ${kernel_addr_r} ${ramdisk_addr_r} ${fdt_addr_r}" to load the kernel images, i'm assuming they are all unsigned. But i would also like to run unsigned app images (openElec/emuElec/etc) which use "bootm <kernel_addr>" but those return an error: aml log : Sig Check 1467 So my question is are you guys doing any "magic" to get it to load, or does "booti" not do a signature check where as "bootm" does? Thanks.

Hey. I have a beer-brewing machine which has software running on an olimex A13-SOM board, that has a capacitive touch panel attached to it. The company (Brewie) did'nt survive, but I really like the machine, and the potential it has. Hello all, I am developing a video streaming device that streams video to youtube. For this, I am using NanoPi NEO Core2 as an SBC. No matter which image I take (stretch/bionic; Bananapim2/Bananapim2ultra; 5.38/5.69) my Banana Pi M2 Berry with it's Allwinner V40 won't boot correctly. This may not be an 'armbian' thing at all, but if not, maybe I'll get a little direction. My first "image" with armbian I downloaded had some 3.4.x kernel on it. After some learning, I was able to get GPIO to work with it. I had some other limitations though. So, I decided to build my own image (buster) so I could customize it. After booting, I GPIO did not work. I explored this, but was unable to to get it to work. I tried a -legacy version (which was 4.x) but also, GPIO did not work. This is my first sunxi experience. So, I'm not sure of the tricks used to get it to work. Either it's broken, or there are patches/config for the kernel …

Hi, I have checked that the GPIO Interruptions are very slow. If i receive a wave in a GPIO with IRQ edge enable, for a frequency of 100Hz, all IRQs detected are right (100 interruptions received) However if i increase the frequency of the wave up to 500Hz, i can't detect all the IRQs received, (50 interruptions received more or less) Well, i think maybe, the solution is to change the following kernel parameter: CONFIG_HZ=1000 instead CONFIG_HZ=250 (default) What do you think ?? Is there other solution?? Thanks a lot in advance

Hello! First post so apologies for any naivete. I have a USB wifi adapter connected to my la frite (it was the only distro that supported it out the box so thank you). On each boot it seems like the USB is getting a different device address and therefore I have to open nmtui and connect to my wifi all over again, to the point where I have 10+ stored connections to the same wifi in my network managers saved connections. At first I thought I could solve the problem by reversing the Persistent Interface Names settings on boot so that it would be wlan0 and I could automate the connection on startup but that hasn't worked for me either. Greetings, I set up an an armbian build environment, and went through the initial build, which took some time. Subsequent rebuilds took a couple hours as well, and I discovered I could 'skip' rebuilding the kernel unless I wanted to build it. Now, I'm testing customize-image.sh, things aren't always going where I want. so, I troubleshoot, make changes, but now my minimum build time is 30-40 minutes. Is there something else I can do to speed up the process?

Hello. I use Retrorange Pi on Orange pi pc+ and the kernel includes a uinput module for implementing console utility management from the gamepad. Unfortunately, in this 5.3.0-dev-rc8 core, the CPU temperature information does not work. I switched kernel to 5.4.20-current via armbian-config. In this kernel, the cpu temp readings work, but unfortunately, there is no uinput in the modules. Can I somehow build this module separately for 5.4.20-current without recompiling the entire kernel? Or is it possible for respected developers to re-enable the module in future kernel releases? With best regards, Sergey

Hello, I would like to get RT Kernel, but i am not able to do it. I have downloaded the patch file: patch-5.4.19-rt11.patch And I copy this file in the following folder: build/userpatches/kernel/sunxi-current Now, I create the following file: build/userpatches/lib.config And i add this sentence: KERNELBRANCH='tag:v5.4.19' and I run compile.sh But it doesn't work. I think there are 2 different errors: one for compiling for an specific kernel version, and the other one for loading the RT patch file. Error 1: fatal: Couldn't find remote ref tags/v5.4.19 error: pathspec 'F…

Greetings, I built armbian with these instructions (https://docs.armbian.com/Developer-Guide_Build-Preparation/#using-our-automated-build-system) I am now wondering: How can I provide specific packages, files, or config to my built image? For instance: I'd like to have the gpio utilities installed, other deb packages I might want, wireless firmware, and even wireless config. Thanks!

For reason I can't explain here , I had to run a video player at Non-X window OS ( Armbian_5.96_Aml-g12_Ubuntu_bionic_default_5.3.0_server ) at a S905X tv-box. I tried to play a mp4 video ( H.264 + AAC ) at the video player ( mpv ) with drm driver. The quality is just so so. Is there any other driver recommended ? Did Amlogic provide a linux video driver which can hard-decode h.264 ? Regards !

I have a problem with a script python that is running in the background, this script needs to run all the time without stopping, but the script freezes or stops without error, when I change for another card, it works for a few days and then the same thing happens, however the debian system continues to work perfectly, only the background script stops working, I already debugged the code and it has no problem making it stop. my sdcard is MicroDrive class 10, 8Gb. what could be causing this problem?

Hi! I powered off my tvbox directy by power cord, and after boot can not enter in Xorg anymore, the screen go to black like successful Xorg start and back to console (each try delay 1s - slow blinking) and repeat this process ininterruptly. Maybe related to lightdm? How to start in console mode to try to fix it? This already happen with two different tv boxes (with buster and now with bullseye).

Hello. I saw all topics about armbian on Q8, Q88 tablets, but some of them are dead with no success, some say, that it is working somehow for someone. I understand, that armbian more tended to be for boards, but come on! There is a huge pile of tablets, that uses same processors, memory, wifi and other chips, and there is a sun5i-a13-q8-tablet.dtb in /boot/dtb of an image of armbian. So, I compiled custom Armbian image using olinuxinoA13 configuration as there wasn't any for q8-tablet. Wrote or burned it with USB Image Writer (I'm on Linux Mint 19 Cinamon) on SD card, mounted it, edited ArmbianEnv.txt line disp_mode=800x480p60. Put SD in tablet, pushed on button... s…

I’m using the Pine64 2GB Kickstarter’s board with the official LCD, running Armbian 5.25 Pine64 Debian (Jessie) 3.10.104 image. Everything works fine, display in terminal only and touch screen with the desktop. Now I would like to upgrade to the latest stable Armbian version (which on download page is 5.83). However now I can’t enable the LCD, although the download page says: It was a couple years back, I don’t remember exactly, but seems that was the same way I’ve used to enable the screen in old 5.25 Armbian. I’m no Linux kernel developer, but searching through the forum on the topic I found several mentions of “kernel recompile” - is there no other ways …

Hey folks, The tl;dr version of my question is "is there a way to stop tmpfs from being used for things like /tmp, /run, etc.?" Essentially I have an OPi Zero running PiAware and graphs1090. Graphs1090 is throwing a bunch of images into a folder under /run, which is causing the amount of free space to drop below 16M. As a result, systemctl refuses to restart some services because there isn't enough free space on /run. So...is there a way to disable the use of tmpfs for folders like /run or /tmp? Honestly, I'd rather just take the hit to the SD card rather have to deal with issues like this.

Are there any commands to show information that could tell me about the level of power consumption ? E.g.: energy saving state of CPU or the like ? On the SBC i am using, i think the power consumption is lower when running the same setup with kernel 5.4, and higher with legacy kernel 4.4. Alas, 5.4 has other problems, so i want to try to figure out what settings/features reduce power consumption in 5.4 and maybe i can then configure them equally in 4.4. This is rockpi4a rockchip3399. If there is nothing generic enough about the topic, i can ask on the forum for that chip.

A problem I'm having with my fresh install of Armbian Bionic on my Libre Renegade board is that I cannot use the user login due to read-only file system warnings. Root login does allow more freedom, but comes with its own drawbacks. Prior to writing Armbian to the chip from Windows, I formatted the chip exFAT. I've reinstalled Armbian mutiple times on multiple chips, but even the recommended A1 SD doesn't work. I'm not sure where the problem lies. Is this strictly a hardware issue? Is there any non-extensive ways to workaround or fix the problem in the terminal? I'm not too familiar with Linux terminology, but can figure out common terms. I can supply more in…

This is on a 4GB NanoPi M4 v1. There are a number of files matching the spec '/etc/ssh/ssh_host_*' but they are all zero bytes, which renders the machine inaccessible by ssh. I'm pretty sure this is happening on every install, I've been troubleshooting and reinstalled several times from the latest image and ssh was not working at any time.

SAMBA when my NAS reboot, the remote shares do not stay in the same mounted folder after reboot. It is in (OMV). It could be you had some nice tips? It was because of that i asked ;-) I have read alot of articles about NFS. So only if you had the golden trick or something you use in the daily? Thanks.

I now have a RockPi4a running Armbian_20.02.0-rc1_Rockpi-4b_bionic_legacy_4.4.210_desktop from eMMC. Now i wanted to see how i most easily can experiment with newer distributions, such as 5.x. The radxa debian images for rockpi4 use a lot of partitions and it was quite easy to reformat the eMMC to have two system partitions, install different linux versions into them, and then configure the boot script to allow booting from different partitions/kernels via serial console and there selecting the desired kernel. In Armbian, it seems booting uses the boot.cmd script to boot the kernel. Is there a simple example of the boot script with a m…

Hello guys, I am currently in the middle of setting up my GlusterFS cluster on 3x Odroid HC2s. I am currently using the standard Ubuntu images but hit some walls with them. The worst wall is that the Samba package does not ship with gluster library (glusterfs.so) and I can't auto manage Samba shares via GlusterFS. Does anyone know whether support in Armbian for Gluster, Samba and CTDB is better? Would you recommend to try it? Cheers Sherry

Hi guys, I am currently working on backing up my armbian installation. Following situation: boot: sd card file system: nfs root backing up the file system is not an issue, there I am using a rsync logic that transfers only changed files, which works great. The problem is with the boot files. In case of sd card failure I need an image that I can quickly restore to a new sd card, without the whole file system, as it is on nfs root and backed up differently. Now my question is: what is the best way to create an image file with only the boot logic? On Raspbian this is simple, as the boot device is a fat32 partition, but on …

Hello! Really appreciating armbian having good notes on how to get up and running on a specific device. Thanks! I have these wifi cards, RTL8821AE. Some of the armbian docs say look for and try '/usr/sbin/hostapd-rt', but I can't figure out how to get that; Maybe that note is out of date? It starts up, but doesn't seem to work. Hi, My Armbian Debian Buster install has the package "armbian-firmware" installed at version 19.11.3.346. Since a few days/weeks, the package is no longer available on the APT repository. I couldn't find a reference in the documentation/forum about its removal, so I don't know if its absence is intentional or due to a bug. If intentional, I should probably install the regular linux-firmware packages from Debian instead? Or will the armbian-firmware package return? # cat /etc/apt/sources.list.d/armbian.list deb https://apt.armbian.com buster main buster-utils # apt clean # apt update Hit:1 http://ftp.nl.debian.org/debian buster InRelease Hi…

Hello, I'm new to Armbian. I've recently tried Olimex's image for a13 (https://github.com/OLIMEX/build). I saw (and read) on armbian's guide that there's the possibility to customize images build. I need to add two specific drivers (smsc95xx for my eth interface and uvcvideo for my webcam) to kernel.
