Hi there, I have been using a nanopi m4v2 for openmediavault for 4 years. In that time my SD card has died once. Now I have ordered an emmc module to do a full clean install of my server. So my questions are, is it wise to boot from the SD card and have the system on the emmc because the sd card can die faster? And if I boot from the SD card and it needs to be replaced, can I just insert a new one and everything will work as before? (With a freshly installed Armbian) If I do a backup of the emmc with win32 disk imager, can I burn the backup to a new emmc with a different sd-card as boot? When I do an armbian install, does it copy the system …

Hi I've got both left and right channels working of my analog audio jack. The quality is quite good as long as Master audio isn't set above volume 15 - 20 or so. Toggling DAC or DAC-Reversed in Alsamixer will enable or disable the physical left and right physical speakers of ear buds. However! On both channels, the left and right software signals are mixed. So if I use "aplay stereo-file.wav", I hear left+right mixed through my separate left ear. Listening to my right earbud, same story: I hear left+right audio mixed. Please help, I can't even find any snd_ module flags to mess with. I've no pulseaudio installed on this latest stable server edition of …

i am using armbian 24.2.1 debian bookworm inn orangepi 5b. At first i used sd card to boot. then i wanted to use emmc to boot. so i went to armbian-config and install os in emmc from there from sd card. now it is booting from emmc if the sd card is not connected but if the sd card is connected it is booting from sd card. The worst part is, if i connect a sd card where there is no OS, it will not even boot. How can i set a order like if there is bootable os in emmc boot from there and use the sd card as storage if not boot from sd card ?

Good evening, Armbian noob here (Debian veteran) working with an RPi 5. I've just installed `Armbian_24.2.5_Rpi5b_bookworm_current_6.6.23.img.xz` and would like to build the ZFS modules. I've installed the kernel modules using `armbian-config` but when I try to build I get root@meson:~# dpkg-reconfigure zfs-dkms Deleting module zfs-2.2.3 completely from the DKMS tree. My Nextcloudpi was running like a charm for years on an Odroid HC1 (no possibility to attache a monitor). It was still running Debian Buster 19.11.7. It was running so well that I neglected it a little too much. And then, when I attempted to upgrade the distro, it went bad. During the upgrade the following error occured: `` Err:5 http://httpredir.debian.org/debian buster-backports Release 404 Not Found [IP: 2a04:4e42:6f::644 80] Ign:6 http://mirrors.dotsrc.org/armbian-apt buster InRelease Err:7 http://mirrors.dotsrc.org/armbian-apt buster Release 404 Not Found [IP: 2001:878:346::116 80] Reading package lists... Hello, I have recently setup Armbian on my Orange Pi Zero 2W for a project I am working on. Everything works great so far but one thing I have noticed is that permissions feel much reduced to my user account. I require sudo to do basically everything from create a file in the home folder to use apt. This feels very different from the feel of the Raspbian install on like a Raspberry Pi. Is there any way I can change the user permissions so I won't have to use sudo for everything? Its been a bigger problem for a project I'm using Clion for where files are synced between my laptop to the pi using SFTP and Rsync but I constantly get errors about unable to create o…

Hey all... Looking to put something a LOT more lightweight than RaspiOS (and not-modern-desktoppy at all, please) on my Pi4Bs. Found out about armbian from the Wikipedia page and downloaded the Jammy CLI image, but I can't get either gitlab or github to talk to me for downloading either of the recommended imagers; gitlab just gives me a blank page (no HTMl at all, per Firefox "view source") and github outright refuses connections. If it's important I do not have accounts on either system, and am loath to create same, although I could if necessary. I don't have Internet at home so I'm doing this from a Win10 PC at my public library; it's running t…

Hi! I'm sorry if the answer to my question is already documented somewhere, but I couldn't find it. I am trying to figure out how to build a specific release. My understanding is that you checkout the desired tag of the armbian/build repo and just build it. However, when I do this with v24.2.1 the image that comes out is named 24.5.0-trunk. Changing the version in the VERSION file (by default set to 24.5.0-trunk) changes the name of the output image, but it is not clear to me if that affects other things than just this. So basically, now I am confused which scenario is correct: Is using the armbian/build tag the correct …

Hi there, Since being only a novice in linux, there are some things that are difficult to understand. Like - which configs to update or keep old versions when doing the upgrade. Last time I said N (keep original version) to everything. Really the only things I care about are vnc configs and samba setup. I basically use it as a network drive for backups. Only necessary software is x11vnc and samba. Else I log into it just for updates/restarts. I have tried upgrading my armbian several times. Unfortunately it does not work and I have to restore my sd card backup and start over. I update it making sure all apt updates are done, and then fr…

I'm looking forward to buying a BIGTREETECH Pi v1.2 board to use as a slim home server to replace my Orange Pi PC. I've had pretty good experience with Armbian so far and I would like to make sure I can continue using it with the new board. I didn't find a specific image for BTT Pi v1.2, but I did find a "Desktop > ARM64" entry. I'm confused on what should I use and whether it's supported at all. Can someone clarify that for me? Has anyone managed to get armbian running on the Allwinner T113-s3? I've been looking into getting it running and there's really no alternatives to Tina linux that I can find. Looks like it works with AWBoot and XBoot as a bootloader so it shouldn't be impossible. I'm completely new to this so if anyone knows anything it would be greatly appreciated. 😄

I have Armbian up and running on a Rock Pi S with a PoE HAT. To enable the audio jack on the PoE HAT I had to run the following commands as mentioned on the official Rock Pi S PoE Hat wiki. # echo 15 > /sys/class/gpio/export # echo out > /sys/class/gpio/gpio15/direction # echo 1 > /sys/class/gpio/gpio15/value Once enabled, the audio works as needed. However, every time the device is rebooted I have to SSH in and run these commands again to re-enable audio out which is obviously not ideal. How can I persist these changes between reboots?

Hello everyone. This is my first post here. My background is software development but not very experienced in the Linux SBC world. So, I have 2x Radxa Zero 3W (not listed on Armbian) with a Rockchip 3566 MCU. And here the questions start... - why don't the Orange Pi 3B or Quartz 64B Armbian images, with the same MCU, don't work on the Radxa Zero 3W ? Aka, shouldn't an OS be portable ? I'm not expecting such of Windows, but I did expect it from Linux - what do the loaders contain exactly ? I have this situation where an older loader seems to boot with Armbian (and then shuts down) but a newer one doesn't... yet the older one doesn't work with the OS from Radxa …

After installing Armbian_23.2.1_Rock-5b_bookworm_legacy_5.10.160_xfce_desktop.img I found a nagging error each start of Firefox. "Failed to read the configuration file. The problem is some configuration clutter somewhere in /usr/lib/firef…

I was hoping to get some idea if it would be possible to build Armbian for the ODroid OGU (S922X, similar to N2+) using a different Kernel. Specifically, using the version from JelOS (https://github.com/JustEnoughLinuxOS/distribution) who have made really good progress for this specific device. I've been building JelOS and modifying packages etc, but would prefer to use Armbian if possible. Any help appreciated.

I've had two Cubietrucks running almost flawlessly for about 10 years on Armbian/Buster and previous versions. I recently decided to install Bookworm using Armbian_23.8.1_Cubietruck_bookworm_current_6.1.47.img.xz. On this I encountered several problems, whose causes I never fully uncovered, but got over them. One of these problems was that neither manual setup nor the use of armbian-config allowed for a lasting configuration of the German keyboard layout, although "Personal Setting" says the opposite (see att. image No.2). It's a pain in the neck, really. All I could filter out is a commandline message that's only visible a second. See the last screenshot with fou…

I rebooted from the 6.6.16-current-sunxi kernel to the 6.7.4-edge-sunxi on my Orange Pi +2E and it couldn't mount some partitions from a USB stick. These use LVM2, and each partition is encrypted using LUKS2 with a keyfile stored in /etc (yes, I know this is a fig leaf encryption, but it prevents someone from grabbing the USB stick and getting the contents of the drive). This works fine with the older kernel, but fails with the newer kernel. I use the exact same setup on a Rock 64 board, and it works fine, on the 6.7.4-edge-rockchip64 kernel.

Hi, I am working on a PR[0] to the Armbian build framework. As suggested in the PR, I am trying to use the upstream U-Boot source and apply the required patches[1][2] on top of it. One of the patch series[2] requires a git subtree[3] to be added to the U-Boot source before applying the patch itself. However, it seems that Armbian's build framework first attempts to apply the required patches[4] on the U-Boot source and then calls the pre_config_uboot_target hook[5]. Currently, I've put the code to add the git subtree in the pre_config_uboot_target hook. As a result, the required patch series are not getting applied. Is there any way in which we can co…

Hello fellow Armbian folk, I've been a happy armbian user for many years. Recently, I've been trying to upgrade to bookworm from bullseye on my cubietruck, however have been hampered by Hash Sum mismatch errors from multiple armbian mirrors. I have followed all instructions on clearing the /var/lib/apt/files, apt clean, but nothing seems to help. I've tried multiple armbian mirrors with no luck. So now I'm seeking some community support.

I have followed this guide and I can boot my Orange Pi Zero from SSD without the need for an SD card inserted. I want to keep a bootable backup for my system in case the SSD gets corrupted. I was thinking to clone my system in a USB stick (just like I did to clone from SD to SSD) and then use rsync once a week to keep everything up to date with a script like that. If I go in armbian-config > system > install I can see only one option: "Install/Update the bootloader on SD/eMMC". How could I clone from SSD to a USB stick? Is there a command like `sudo nand-sata-install`?

Hello, I'm trying to install Armbian using `armbian-install` on NVMe, with bootloader on eMMC. I have installed 64GB Foresee eMMC module and 256GB WD SN530 2242 SSD. Hi, I'm new to Armbian and this is my first time ever compiling any Linux system. I'm sorry to bother you with such a basic question, but I just don't understand. I want to enable a kernel module. Upon browsing the kernel configuration utility menus, I don't see this functionality anywhere. But if I run search with '/', I find this, this is the module I want: How do I now proceed to enable it? Or make sure that it's enabled (if present by default)? Also, what's the meaning of =y and =m? It's listed in the resulting .config file as =y, just as the search shows.

I recently purchased an Orange Pi 5 Plus and installed Armbian. It shuts down about every ten minutes. Strangely, when it is streaming video over HDMI it does not shutdown. So it can stream movies for up to three hours without shutting down. But if I am not streaming, for example if I am SSH into the device, it will shutdown after about ten minutes and I get booted out. I disabled system suspend in `settings > Power settings` but this did not help. I also just replaced the power supply with a 4 amp power supply (up from 3.5 amp) but this did not help at all. I also looked around 'armbian-config' but I did not notice any settings that could be the issue. …

Is there some shell script file inside /boot directory that gets called on system startup? Alternatively, is there any way to make such a script run by modifying only files inside /boot (like some config setting)?

Hey all, New to Armbian, installed to an Orange Pi 5. Installed XRDP - works fine in root (desktop shows) but if I try to do it as a user I just get a black screen with cursor. From searching I can see posts about already being logged in as a user already, and therefore black for privacy but I've not logged in as the user prior? Cant find anything really conclusive explaining how to resolve this Also even in root if I get logged out of desktop (RDP session still active, i.e. desktop lock screen) my root password doesn't work. Password is clearly not wrong

So I've had an odroid C2 running Armbian for the past couple of years without a hitch. Today however, when I try to login to my box either remotely or directly, I'm greeted with a login screen. On this box consists of 4 accounts (all mine) and I've set my primary account to automatically login when booted (never needed a password). Yet still, I'm greeted with the login screen. I try to login under my other accounts using my password, but even then, screen goes black for a second, then back to login screen. I really need some help here. As I said, I've been running Armbian flawlessly up until this point, now all of a sudden I can't even login to any of my accou…

I used to come here some time ago and the first i always visited was the overview of supported boards. It included a photo of the board and the supported and unsupported features. Now i surfed and searched for almost an hour and can't find this or a similar page anymore. Where is that page gone? And i thought i was smart to first check out what boards are well supported before buying one. I saw this new Orange Pi "Orange Pi Zero 2W 4GB RAM + Expansion Board Development Board Allwinner H618 WiFi-BT Orange Pi Zero 2 W Single Board Computer" featuring two USB-C ports. Does anybody know whether that supports Armbian and OTG for a UVC camera and a USB-C Power supply? I do not …

I'm using Armbian bullseye on an Odroid HC2 with 2 GB of RAM with OpenMediaVault. Its memory usage used to be around 10% before starting any docker services, and a cool 50-60% while running things like Nextcloud, Vaultwarden etc. It used to jump to around 80% when some headless Chromium processes ran intermittently, but overall, it's been quite stable. I don't recall to make any significant changes to the system, yet suddenly the baseline memory usage jumped to around 50%, making my system extremely slow and unstable, with service and system restarts now occuring several times a day. I couldn't extract any useful clue about what's using all that RAM, with `sys…

Hi. For my application it would be very advantageous to speed up the boot time of the device as much as possible. The application depends on the network, and unfortunately it seems it takes a while for the interface to establish a connection. After plugging in the device, I count that it takes about 25-30 seconds until my application starts (which is set to start on reboot by cron). However, at that time, the network is still not up, so it matters little that the application has started. It takes another 20 seconds or so until the device is reachable by the network. So total 45-50 seconds from boot. Why is this? I see in systemd-analyze t…

Suddenly after updating via armbian-config I lost ssh access and found the port closed. I rewrote the latest armbian version, stuck the sd card in, connected to ethernet cable via router and started up. The red and green lights were on as they should be and the internet cable was flashing green. Waited 3 minutes and checked the ports with nmap. And the port is closed again. Not responding to ping at all. I am still new to this topic. Please help and sorry if the translator translates crookedly.

Hi all, I am trying to bring up a new board that uses both Allwinner H616 emacs, the 1Gbps (emac0) and the 10/100Mbps w/internal phy (emac1). It does not reset, this is what I found in the dmesg: [ 2.228695] dwmac-sun8i 5030000.ethernet: EMAC reset timeout As per the datasheet, the reg EMAC_BASIC_CTL1's LSB (SOFT_RST bit) is a bit that must set to 1 to reset, then automatically resets to 0 when the emac has finished the reset procedure. In my case, it remains 1 causing the kernel to unload emac1 driver. Anyone…

Hello, Since I upgraded my Odroid N2+ to Armbian 23.11, when connecting to SSH, I can read the following: Welcome to Armbian 23.11.1 Buster with Linux 6.1.63-current-meson64 No end-user support: community creations & unsupported (buster) userspace! Since 23.08 I had the first part about only community creation, which I already did not understand but now it looks worse as it also mention Buster when I use Bookworm. What can cause this strange information? And what can I try to solve this?

Hi all, This used to work absolutely fine for me a couple of years ago but for some reason it isn't working at all now. I had to format the eMMC and re-flash it. Using either Bookworm or Jammy, when I try to run the script for boot from eMMC / system on NVME after the reboot it won't boot again. I've tried on both, tried before / after apt-update etc. Just doesn't seem to want to work when it used to in the past. This is what I'm seeing, apologies for phone photos, as I was in my living room, no way to take a screenshot. Any ideas? Thank you!

Hi there, I have a working armbian jammy on my odroid c2, but I'm unable to get SPI to work. I believe SPI needs to be enabled somewhere additonally. In the "armbian-config" hardware section, there is only an entry for the odroid n2, which does not help/work for me. Are there any other hints somebody can give me to make it work? thanks a…

Hi, I setup a Radxa Zero 2 last week with Klipper, a 3d printing firmware. Over the past few months, I've transitioned my printer to using canbus. I'm finding the setup process slightly different with Armbian than it was on RpiOS, and I'd appreciate feedback or pointers that could help me better understand networking in Armbian. I use a usb canbus adapter. In the past, I've configured it using the standard Klipper config written to `/etc/network/interfaces.d/can0`: allow-hotplug can0 iface can0 can static bitrate 1000000 up ifconfig $IFACE txqueuelen 1024 So, when I went to setup the Radxa, I did what I've always done, and i…

Hi all, Using Armbian Focal for a couple of years now and booting from an SSD plugged to USB (used the armbian installer to move to it) and it always worked perfectly but after an apt-update (stupid of me I know) I'm now stuck on a boot loop, it looks like the entire system is fubar'd. I don't mind formatting and reinstalling everything, the problem is that I lost the eMMC to USB converter I had and can't find any in the UK... Attached an image of what I'm seeing. Anything I can do to either salvage or do a fresh new install without the eMMC converter? Can be removed. Did a full format.

I have done a firmware update on my Compulab Utilite Pro using u-boot compiled from source. However something went wrong, leaving me with a bricked board. In the manual it is mentioned, that the iMX6 has 2 boot-modes. The recovery-mode can be configured by switching some pin to a high-level. On the PCB I can not find any jumper, that allows me to do so. Question: Does anybody know how to switch the Compulab Utilite Pro to the recovery-mode? Thanks in advance

Hello. I am wondering if anyone here has Xenomai working for Amlogic platforms? I'm particularly interested in applying Xenomai to Le Potato/Sweat Potato. According to them, Xenomai is current and working for the Amlogic S905X3 (Odroid C4), though I have failed to find any source, patches, or images for that board. As far as I can tell, aside from some minor performance improvements here and there, the Odroid C4's SoC layout is very comparable to what the Potato boards have. So I only expect minor changes, if anything, to go from that SoC to the Potato's SoC. Xenomai's own guide to porting the dovetail interface is pretty good; I'll do that if I have too. I…

Greetings all; I have a pile of bananapi-m5's, all used behind a home.arpa local network. I am the only one here, and no one but me will ever have access to these machines.
