Hi, First of all I love the Armbian distro on Orange Pi / H3. It's the best out there and what was missing from the beginning. Awesome job. Quick question: is there any reason why Armbian doesn't have Avahi preinstalled by default ? Of course there's no pb adding it afterward but it would be pretty convenient when working with a headless setup. Just curious, Thanks, Richard

Hi, I have a few questions about the NanoPi R1 system. 1) The (USB > TTL) debug serial port is that 3.3v or 5v? I need to get the correct adapter. 2) Hooking up a serial debug cable is there enough room to close the front plate? 3) Can the system run from eMMc and get software upgraded from the SD-Card? 4) I could not not find clear procedures for this. Am not familiar with OpenWRT. 5) Can the Ethernet port be used to talk to a P.C. running Windows (putty) or would the micro-USB to P.C. be better? 6) I would eventually use WiFi for remote access and updates. 7) Can the NanoPi R1 run Apache WEB server? 8) Can …

For example apt reports me now that there are new packages to be updated: linux-dtb-dev-sunxi64 linux-image-dev-sunxi64 linux-u-boot-orangepi3-dev. How can I tracka/see changes made in them?

  5. I'm currently on the hunt for the cheapest decently reliable board to use for building a glusterfs cluster. Requirements are simple: GbE, SATA port, arm64, preferably low power. While helios64 is obviously the way to go for a NAS when it lands, it's totally overkill for a setup like this and I just realized that ODROID HC2 won't fly due to being 32-bit only. Most other 64-bit boards require expansion boards for SATA, which drags up the total cost. Finally I realized that the PC Engines APU boards fit all criteria, and come with what I understand to be performant GX-412TC CPUs. This one, for example, for 86EUR (maybe a bit on the pricey side, but I have…

I would like to install a small mpd server (Music Player Daemon) that would read files from a usb disk, stream webradios and possibly be controlled by ir. What is the most lightweight and cheapest board that would exist and could do that ? The orange pi zero with an extension board or a usb audio card would have been perfect, but I read several posts about the lack of software updates and the never resolved kernel issues. How bad is it really ? And then what else would do the job?

I can only deactivate the desktop environment interface or I can start to study hard to build my own Great Armbian CLI version. The problem is that I would have the more RAM free is possible to run another layer software as MINERS or Clusters management. Another reason that we could use the CLI version i…

Hello fellow armbianites, It has been put to me that arm based boards require a DTB file because arm works a bit differently than x86. The difference between an arm and an x86 board, is that x86 is standardised and always has the same form factor. When you plug in a device into an expansion slot or port on your motherboard the new device announces itself. All the addresses are known in advance and hence there is no need for a DTB file. On arm on the other hand board design is not standardised. You can design a PCB whichever way you would like and solder any component onto the board that your heart desires. There is no single way…

  30. I've been seeding torrents on my CubieBoard2 earlier; in Juli I moved to one of my EspressoBIN boards. I allocated 128GB for the torrents (since it was stated that I needed at least 60GB for Armbian). -But now Armbian seem to take up 123GB on my dedicated transmission partition: $ df -h . Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on /dev/sdc13 128G 123G 4.5G 97% /transmission It seems I have 388 completed Armbian files (and no other files). -Does this mean that something went out of control - like files not being deleted - or does it mean that the torrents use this much space now ?

Maybe I make separate thread / blog post about that, but here I mention it only as criteria for selecting hardware (as these tools must be supported). And I like bench stuffs - I'm not considering some software-defined oscilloscope that would do the same for half the price. Because I'm cranky :-P What's your opinion? Hi all, First let me thank you for your work. Armbian is fantastic. Thank you. I’m surprised that nobody has asked this question or at least I’m unable to find it on the forum / in docs. My understanding is: 1. Debian x86 Linux kernel is same on all devices since regardless if it is laptop or server, it has BIOS or UEFI that will ”tell” the kernel what hardware, what buses, what addresses, etc. it has… 2. ARM boards don’t have BIOS and therefore Linux Kernel is different for every board. I checked that on my Orange Pi Zero by default the /etc/apt/source.list and /etc/apt/source.list.d/ are default Debian repos and one…

Raspberry has an overabundance of people sharing what they have created [this for example https://tutorials-raspberrypi.com/setup-raspberry-pi-node-js-webserver-control-gpios/] I have made use of what I have searched and found to make my website again [my site], but at least for the computer hosting my relay interface I want to use better boards with more RAM. Yes I flashed Armbian Focal (CLI) to my emmc and armbian-config really does the job.. it makes your like way to easier. The image I flashed was the 20.11.6 Focal…

  62. Hi all! I'm new to Armbian so share my experience in this section. After several failures I managed to find an image that boots on my Banana Pi M2+ (Armbian_5.34.171121_Bananapim2plus_Debian_stretch_next_4.13.14_desktop). Everything worked nicely from the box, thanks all developers for a great job (but indeed, huge penguin looks a bit frightening on 55" TV). While setting up WiFi I found that the board doesn't "see" my AP (while all neighbours' were there). After playing with AP's settings i figured out that it's not visible if Control Channel is set to 13. When I disabled autoselection of channel 13 on the AP, the board was able to conn…

I think that I have only two options: go with SBC with EMMC or just buy cheap 32/64 GB SSD with USB adapter. What do you think, which option gives me better durability? Can I assume that EMMC is really durable comparing to SD card? Is USB 2.0 adapter as fast as EMMC?

Hello, I wanted to "build" some kind of Libre Safebox and Libre Router (meaning as libre as possible, of course in this case). I searched around but I still didn't find anything really fully assembled (a part for the Project Turris router, but I was hoping in something more versatile, that isn't necessarily restricted to being a router), so I decide to, if possible, find/assemble a more custom solution by myself. It doesn't have to be anything particularly performing, just that it can handle 720p videos and resolutions smoothly enough, that it can be used to surf the internet even with several open tabs and maybe some basic office things. The most important thing is that…

I was able to build the property file for the NanoPi M1 in about 20 minutes, so now basically you can do ~2 MHz GPIO square wave on all Allwinner and S905 CPUs (you listening @TonyMac32?) without any special code or adapters. All other libraries require one off code to support GPIO register access thus they only support limited boards. In my mind this is the holy grail for cross platform GPIO performance. I plan on going through some more diverse boards, but I'm happy with the results so far. Since only one core is utilized you'll average 25% CPU utilization on quad core systems. That may be another goal using two threads to improve performance further. I have currently m…

I found a big rackable USB hub, but that's not what I am looking for, and 2.4A max per slot may be too weak for some of the boards. I could hosts several smaller USB hubs too, but that does not sound really enticing. My other option is to make it by myself with salvaged server power supplies, a patch panel, bits and bobs, but it will take longer... Would you have any recommendation? Thanks.

Suppose that you have a bunch of dtb/dts files that are known good (like from Linux kernel source). Suppose that you have a dtb file that you ripped out of some new device and probably no source code. This tool will allow to dump all of the parameters (nodes) out of the dtb file and compare it with all of the other ones that you have in a spreadsheet so that you can visualise the differences. 90. Hello Armbian community, Here is a project of adjusting the Kobol Helios4 case for a Raspberry Pi 3B and either 2.5" or 3.5" HDD, as well as a 92mm FAN and a USB hub. This is my first SketchUp project (I've used the 2016 trial version). The Raspberry Pi will be screwed in the bottom and powered through the micro usb. That's why I've left more room on that side. We can maybe come with a better idea, more universal (eg. dual output 12v and 5v of at least 90w, or a Molex fanless PSU unit. The latter would b…

Rather than merely reproduce what can be found at the project site, I'll run over a few quick concepts. Maybe you'll find it interesting as well. In a nutshell - what makes it tiny is that it is basically a kernel, which then relies upon Busybox for the shell/file/unix utilities, including init. You add on as much or little as you like, although there is the total basic commandline / shell offering, or lightweight Xvesa gui desktop to get started. If you want a full blown X11 setup, you ca…

  100. Just received my H616 OpiZero2... Since there is no Armiban -- I tried "Xunglong" version of Ubuntu Focal. Motd from Armbian armbian-config magically transferred into orangepi-config. Same to armbianmonitor, which is now .. guess - orangepimonitor. Also armbianEnv.txt now orangepiEnv.txt in /boot. Looks like "good global search and replace job" was done. I'm not a lawyer, neither too much aware of opensource licenses... But I guess there SHOULD be a reference to original Armbian sources ? May be Armbian "stakeholders" are aware of this, may be not. Just for your information.
