Not sure if you guys are partnering with Orange Pi to produce the Orange Pi 800 OS...but just got mine in...fired it up and EVERYTHING was Armbian just re-branded as "Orange Pi" And uggh...all the apt sources were out of China...so trying to upgrade was CRAZY slow!

I’ve been rocking a Solidrun clearfog base with Armbian for ~10 years now as my home router and was very happy with it until a few months ago when the newer software updates began to break it. I think the software support is beginning to rot due to not many users and thus no push to maintain it. I figure it’s time to start looking for a replacement. I have a Rock 5 ITX that could do it but I’ve been trying to keep it on the vendor kernel so it can transcode in hardware for Jellyfin - but that vendor kernel has issues reliably detecting the SATA controllers - and I don’t want to have to reboot my router multiple times to get the hardware to work after applying …

Wherein I explain my conversion... Pine64 was barely on my radar in the past. There are so many SBC and companies just trying to sell crap it can be hard to tell who is who some times, until you look into one company / board / device or another, a little more in depth. I have been following Librem 5 development for a long time, so I was aware of PinePhone, but they seemed in my mind back then a bit like a "Johnny come lately" who were just trying to capitalize on whatever Purism were trying to do. Then @lanefu was raving about his PineBookPro in IRC, it was only then I started really poking around their forums the last month or so, a…

Hello everybody, I´m appareantly not capable of changing the datadir of the mariadb installation. I googled it and followed several tutorial, yet I cant make it work. Example https://www.tecmint.com/change-default-mysql-mariadb-data-directory-in-linux/ I change the settings in this file /etc/mysql/mariadb.conf.d/50-server.cnf and i added under following sections the new datadirs/sockets [mysqld] datadir=/srv/dev-disk-by-id-ata-SanDisk_SDSSDH3_2T00_210837801141-part2/Medien/Programme/MariaDB socket=/srv/dev-disk-by-id-ata-SanDisk_SDSSDH3_2T00_210837801141-part2/Medien/Programme/MariaDB/mysql.sock …

Tinkering with API's is fun. Always wanted to allocate the scripts and tools made over time and allow quick access to the data they can provide. Never liked the idea of leaving a power hungry Desktop running to have access to it and am too paranoid to leave any SBC (FTP/WebServer) connected to the World Wild West for too long. As seen with the Mirai Botnet/DYN attacks. So my answer was to have something low power (SBC and armbian) that was at least 'secure enough' for me to let it interface with the world. So this was made: https://github.com/BiTinerary/PersonalAPI In a nutshell this is how it works: Scripts on an OPi Zero that make API calls, scrape web da…

Hello, I created with Armbian config a Wlan hotspot. I want to make a kan bridge because it is isolated. What's on Ubuntu Bionic the best way? With the network managers or manual way. Looks like the network management has changed, in the last years and I am confused of all the available instructions. And when I am connected to the AP from win 10 notebook I can get a ssh connection to the host. I can connect to an other client at this ap and then I connect over this client to the host. I have no idea why. How could I solve this? Gr…

at https://www.friendlyarm.com/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=274 is the "new" NanoPi R1S (available as H3 or H5) and they stated armbian-support in the OS-Section. Is that original or FriendlyElec-armbian? Because the R1S doenst seem to use the AMPAK WiFi/Bluetooth as the NPi R1, but a Realtek module?

I use NANOPI R1 in one of my projects. Now I need to develop a board to make a physical watchdog from NANOPI R1 itself and an RTC (the NANOPI R1 RTC does not work). I have two possibilities: One is to use the already integrated UART, or use a USB - I2C converter. Using the UART I would communicate the NANOPI with a 328P microcontroller, and from there I would collect the RTC information (with i2c between 328P and RTC), in addition to sending the frequent information to the 328P to keep the watchdog active. Using the I2C, the RTC would be connected to the I2C BUS and I would do the direct query via NANOPI R1, as well as send the frequent information via I2C …

Recently, nothing is happening on the SBC market. Libre Computer seems to be in a bad financial condition after having failed with La frite and the kickstarter campaign. Projects on SBC on cpu amlogic S912 and S922 are dead and it is not known if they will see the light of day. Pine is busy with its smartphone and probably nothing new will not be released yet. Xunlong who lives not from sales but from subsidies from the Chinese government is also silent. Expected allwinner processors from the new A100, A200 series are just under design. Only khadas released VIM3L from the S905X3 cpu. They even have a linux image already on this board. It can be downloaded from the khadas …

I was searching for certain hard-to-find chip (TDA1022 BBD) and found this site ( www.chimicron.com ) mentioned as a source. They have it in stock and at a pretty decent price. Most of their stuff I’ve seen seems reasonably priced, but I couldn’t find mentions/opinions of the site here or in a few other diy communities. I’m not sure the location of the company (either Hong Kong or China?), but everything is listed in dollars (but then again so is Tayda). Has anyone purchase through this site? Any issues with quality of the productions such as questionable authenticity? Are shipping/handling times reasonable? Thank you!

Hi friend! Need some help with postfix settings. Here is the situation. i have 2 servers, 1 with fully configured mail with postfix and dovecot. Another one with web server apache2 and just postfix (for sending the mail messages through the php mail function). Have a public static ip address. So when i need to send a message from server 2 to email that located on mail service 1, i am getting timeout error message. In fact in log i can see, that server 2 looking in dns for MX and then going to ip address that filled under A on port 25. So my ip is going to my ip:25. How can i give my postfix on server 2 the instructions to connect to server 1 directly in my priv…

Hi, I am working on a project based on raspberry pi and sensors, I am using sensors to get data and I am using an ADS1115(datasheet) ADC to convert sensor analog data to digital. I am concerned about the ESD for raspberry pi so i have used a metal case for this project. Also, I am using a MEANWELL Net 35-b power supply . Question: I read on a blog that the simplest way to have ESD protection is to use a metal case and connect the metal case to the ground of the power supply also ground of raspberry pi and power supply are connected. Is this the correct way to protect circuit and raspberry pi?

My internet search says no, but I thought I would ask anyway. If not, I guess it's my turn now to be the guinea pig. I think I will maybe get one of these and one "regular" emmc...

Suppose that you have a bunch of dtb/dts files that are known good (like from Linux kernel source). Suppose that you have a dtb file that you ripped out of some new device and probably no source code. This tool will allow to dump all of the parameters (nodes) out of the dtb file and compare it with all of the other ones that you have in a spreadsheet so that you can visualise the differences. Full disclosure: I was one of the winner of a free Station P1 and they ask to provide a few postings about it. So this will be my first one where I unbox it. Funnily I did expect some kind a cardboard box but instead I received a plastic bag. Well, I take it. Within the Fedex bag was another bag from DHL. No idea what happened there... Which sd-micro card do you recommend ? I mean card costs max 10 USD or even cheaper.

Another flavour of Arm Linux. FatdogArm is a port of Fatdog64 to the ARM platform. Currently in Beta release, it is based on Fatdog64 and thus shares much of Fatdog64 features. Like Fatdog64, FatdogArm is intended for desktop-style operations but on the lower-cost ARM-based systems. FatdogArm currently was originally built on A10/Mele A1000 hardware, although it can be easilyadapted for other platforms. These days, FatdogArm is known to run is A20/Cubieboard, Odroid-U2, Odroid-U3, OLPC XO-1.75, OLPC XO-4 Touch, Pandora, Cubox-i i2, Cubox-i i4pro, and Google Nexus7 2012. Hi all, my first post here. Just a short question - is it possible to configure static IP address before the first boot by editing some configuration file in boot partition? I had to SSH to Orange Pi PC after installing Armbian_21.05.1_Orangepipc_buster_current_5.10.34.img in the network where there isn't DHCP and I set up the static IP address by connecting the SBC to the monitor and running nmtui. I could set the IP address by connecting the SBC directly to the computer by using LAN cable too but the easiest way would be if there is an option of configuring the static IP by editing some file in boot partition before the first boot.

Greetings, I have scoured every source I could find, but could only find images that hinted at it. I need 1) to know the pinout of the 4-pin debug usart port on the NanoPC T4, and possibly 2) to find a good alternative to PuTTY that can handle the high(?) bit-rate I see in dmesg output (under Armbian debian Stretch). I've tried those implied by the images, and though my Windows 7 PC sees a new COM port (and the driver installed clean) for my new DTECH USB to TTL Serial 3.3V Adapter Cable (TX RX Signal with 4 Pin 0.1 inch Pitch Female Socket PL2303 Prolific Chip for Windows 10 8 7 XP Vista (6ft, Black)), I'm unable to access it v…

I do not wish to make this too political. But I do often get the question if we can trust all the images from board makers security wise. I personally try many images. I only use Hardkernel images on my Odroids. On my NVIDIA Jetson Nano I of course use the image from NVIDIA since it's got all the goodies. But on all other boards I use Armbian. Either official Armbian, or Balbes Armbian. I wanted to hear your thought about this.

Ahoy! I'm looking for a cheap SBC with mainline kernel support (so hopefully Armbian support too) and a stereo line-level input and output. I'd like to also have atleast an ARMv7 or later instruction set (need Neon instructions) and atleast 512 megs of RAM (but 1 or 2 gigs would be nice; and I could survive with 256MB if I work really hard). My use-case is that I intend to pair this up with a cheap mixer and run a few audio plugins via Ardour. Most plugins I use (generally stuff from the Guitarix project) depend on the ARM Neon instructions. The ModDevices project seems to be based off an ARMv7 instruction set based 1GB board so it's kinda sorta my…

As I do not have any Intel based system, and I'd like to buid Armbian, my options are fairly limited. I have a PowerBook G4, but I can't build the Linaro toolchain there, because it requires autogen, which needs guile, which won't build due to undefined symbols. However, the Linaro toolchain builds on my Cubieboard2. I've read a little about how to build Armbian, and to me it looks a bit complicated (I'm used to building stuff myself, I've just never built an entire Linux system before). -So why is it necessary (or recommended) to use a virtual machine for building ? -Is it just to get a "clean system" before building, does it have to do with "cleanup" after…

good day dear friends, well sure i know this is theoretically a bit difficult, but I dare to ask: what are the possible ways to connect an internal 3.5'' SATA HDD to the board (let's say i want to use a 1TB)? Let's ignore the need for additional power. i want to add a good power supply unit: So that i have enough power. What about the ways and options to connect a HDD. What is aimed: I want to make a box like a Network Attached Storage - a NAS - that contains the board and the HDD internally, so the trivial "plug to USB connector" is excluded. How can I do this? first approach: Well - i guess that the only way is to use a sata…

Hi, A small discussion started here, but I would like to lift it to here. The question and tests should be. Are there alternatives to Etcher? A must was - standard writing verification. IIRC this was back in the days an option you had to set a 'tick' on Win32 DiskImager.. and so not an option. Before we change anything - proper testing and writing down the steps to achieve a great result is a must. Multiplatform, would be nice, but we can as well recommend 2 or 3 SDcard writing programs. Can you please help to write a table of available programs (you can do a table in the forum, but consider quantity of lines & rows first). And w…

Just to have some sort of comparison to x86 based SBC I benchmarked my UP Board (lying in the drawer for years) right now: As can be seen the Intel Atom x5-Z8300 CPU will be outperformed by an RK3399 or even an el cheapo NanoPi Fire3 pretty easily: https://github.com/ThomasKaiser/sbc-bench/blob/master/Results.md Onboard eMMC performance (16GB on my model) also not that impressive (random IO ok, but sequential write performance below SD card level at just ~20 MB/s): Internal 32 GB eMMC random random kB reclen write rewrite read reread read write 102400 4…

dear fellows, what is aimed: on Raspberry Pi i want monitor the CPU temp at a command line, there is the vcgencmd command. Well We can do this in bash: To read CPU temp at a command line, we can use the vcgencmd command. Example in bash: echo "The CPU is at $(vcgencmd measure_temp) degrees." The CPU is at temp=45.5'C degrees. i think that we can do this with Python as well: import re, subprocess def check_CPU_temp(): temp = None err, msg = subprocess.getstatusoutput('vcgencmd measure_temp') if not err: m = re.search(r'-?\d\.?\d*', msg) # a solution with a regex try: …

Hi, I am new of this kind of computing. I pointed my attention on Orange PI boards, because their cheapness. I just made a donation because I prefere this distro instead of the Orange Pi factory. I tested both and I prefere a lot this. This website is well readeable instead of other. I think that I will do other donations because I believe in this project. I am here because I am trying to create a cluster in superlow power consumption. I would like to create it with one Orange Pi Pc 2 and some Zero boards. I will search for informations and libraryes to build and configure the cluster. Please if anyone want to share his information is wellcome here in my posts thread.

Hello All, I am working on a freelance testing project and I want to know which model is better for testing in the process and concept point of view between agile and waterfall. Yesterday when i search for difference between them I found this reference and as I know Agile method uses an incremental development approach, the phases of design, production, testing, and other project management may appear several times as well as testing is frequently done in conjunction with the development phase in Agile model to maintain consistent quality. but not an idea about waterfall. Can anyone know which model is useful in testing? and what technique the waterfall model used?

Are clusters able to do anything useful yet? I'm vaguely aware of open stack and I know that googles server farms are full of consumer PCs all networked together and even people making RasPi clusters of varying sizes, but are they any good for normal uses? For example if I bought 10 OPi PC's and stuck them in a case with an Ethernet switch and a hard drive could I build Armbian really really quickly (typing make -j40 would be nice ;-) or would it ultimately just get bogged down and do nothing?

I just open-sourced some code to replace fbtft and fbcp. It uses dirty-tiles to try to minimize the writes to the SPI LCD and improve the framerate. I'm working with some of the guys at sudomod to get it working on Lakka builds too. You can download it here: https://github.com/bitbank2/BB-CP

I have deleted this project please see https://github.com/sgjava/userspaceio as it covers I2C, SPI and serial in addition to the new GPIOD. I posted instructions over in the H2/H3 forum, but my build project for libgpiod should work on any Armbian mainline distribution, so I'm posting a link here to my Github site. The install is scripted and comes with the ability to generate Python and Java bindings. libgpiod replaces the deprecated sysfs since kernel 4.8. libgpiod-extra project aims to make cross platform/cross language GPIO development a reality. No more one off hacked up Wiring Pi or RPi.GPIO for each SBC. I need help testing across multiple S…

I just released a new C library for communicating with those inexpensive 4-digit 7-segment LED displays: https://github.com/bitbank2/tm1637 They can run on 3.3V or 5V and draw between 1 and 15mA depending on the brightness setting. I purchased mine from an AliExpress vendor for 68 cents each with free shipping. They use a custom 2-wire communications protocol and must be "bit-banged" from 2 GPIO pins. In my demo, I assign pins 38 and 40 on my Orange Pi Lite.

Hello everybody. I'm a newcomer here. I tried several times (6 or 7) to use the "Search" function, typing either "OBS" or "OBS Studio", but the page crashed everytime, prompting me to wait 30 seconds (in vain). So I'm considering buying an Odroid N2+ and installing Armbian on it. As said in the title, I'd like to use OBS Studio on it, but would like to know if someone already installed it - and could use it of course -, just to spare time. Maybe it's already been discussed somewhere here, but as I said, the "Search" function doesn't work for me. Thanks in advance.

Hi there, I'm currently struggling to get the Cedrus VPU up and running. I have downloaded the specific version from bootlin and got the kernel up and running, however the V3s isn't supported by the Sunxi SRAM driver. This driver is important to get the VPU going. I tried altering the devicetree of the V3s to match a SoC that is somehow similiar, but it clearly failed for obvious reasons. I get this error message: [ 1.035259] cedrus 1c0e000.video-codec: Failed to claim SRAM [ 1.040990] cedrus 1c0e000.video-codec: Failed to probe hardware [ 2.478247] cedrus 1c0e000.video-codec: Failed to claim SRAM [ 2.484047] cedrus 1c0e…

I bought a Firefly RK3399 about a year ago. Since then I have moved to Friendly NanoPC T4. I bought a second NanoPC T4 because my first machine running Armbian Bionic 18.04.4 has been working very well. I have been anti X86 and decided ARM was more interesting. Now to compile I need Armbian Build. So I bought a $100 HP 15 Laptop, a basic 4GB / 500GB Sata machine running Focal / Ubuntu 20.04. OK I have since reevaluated my situation and see more AMD machines in my future. I was able to run Armbian 20.05 on the HP and that impressively gave me a working Ubuntu Focal on my NanoPC. Except it is unoptimized and creaky. not really a working desktop…

Hi I actually have an old Odroid C2 with Armbian and it's running quite good for pi hole and plex streaming (usb attached hdd) I'd like to replace the board with a new SBC but I can't seem to find the right one for me. I need - armbian good support - 2+GB ram - fast cpu - Gigabit Ethernet - eMMC support could be nice for fast OS - it will run headless - docker support - USB 3 support could be nice, otherwise USB 2 is ok I think it's all. There are a lot of SBC manufacturer and models (orange pi, banana pi, Raspberry pi, nano pi,...) and I can't really understand what is better for me Thank…

I wonder how the community would react to an addition to the existing version of the images with XFCE DE , new version with Mate DE. Or other variants. The issue arose due to the fact that collecting different images and often get from users are requests for different options that vary from the norm in the community Armbian variant of DE (ICEWM KDE LXDE LXQT etc). I tried to add a test version with a Mate. Got to add the Assembly of images with alternative DE without prejudice to the basic variant (XFCE).

As I recently wrote I started to use the desktop with armbian. Two obvious missing things puzzle me, but that maybe as not many are using it: xserver restart (ctrl + alt+ backspace) key kombination is missing disabled by default, go to >settings>session & startup>autostart and add: "setxkbmap -option terminate:ctrl_alt_bksp" can this be added into a config file of XFCE as a standard? The other options that are available for setxkbmap "-option X" are determined by /usr/share/X11/xkb/rules/base.lst Text Editior - the only text editor available... HI. I have a system on emmc protected by overlayroot. Sensitive data are written to sd card. Everything works as expected. The question is: Is there a way to temporarily access the root filesystem from python script ? Of course, I can temporarily deactivate protection by ‘overlayroot-chroot’ command from terminal and make changes, but that's not what I mean. I have a web server application written in a flask framework. On one of its pages, users can set network parameters, e.g. IP, mask, dns . Is it possible at all, eg when the user accepts changes to disable protection, save changes to root filesystem and immediately enable protection ?

Hi all, I want to isolate Nextcloud on my BananaPro with a virtual machine. (Background: I want to open the port in the router to sync with Nextcloud from the internet. To protect my other data (NAS with OMV, Smart Home with fhem) Nextcloud should run isolated by a virtual machine or in a Docker container.) I have found a lot of information about Docker in this forum, but not about virtual machines. Is, perhaps, "Own your bits" a good solution? Currently running Debian Stretch with Armbian Linux 4.19.62-sunxi on Banana Pro. It is a headless server without desktop, so the virtual machine has to be installed and configured only with CLI. Inside th…

Hi, I am completely newbie here, so apologize if my question is stupid...
