Hi there, Has anyone tried openRGB with armbian? I found a few references to Raspberry Pi and openRGB, but nothing really usable. I would like to build a Kubernetes cluster and use an RGB fan to display the status of the cluster (and of course try to cool it down). Thanks.

Hi All, I'm working with a linux5.4.213 (arm) - OpenWRT based (QCA driver) Mesh AP. Currently the device is running into Out of memory and looking at the slab info, we see skb_head_cache and skb_data_cache accounting a major increase. But i don't have any clue on how to go about debugging the same. I came across similar issues discussed years ago, but there were no conclusion or methods to debug/triage the issue further. We gave a shot with kmemtracer, but that seems to pretty much point to false positives and the module itself was contributing to leak and we were asked to turn the configs off. If someone could point me on w…

Hi guys! so, i've noted a major difference between the friendlyarm rk3399 sbcs and the other models, ant that's bc the friendly arm rk3399s run at 1866 mhz while the other models run at 1600 mhz. that means 100 glmark2 points less, for example.I would like to know how to use this bootloader instead, and even then, how to even go further. I overclocked my rockpro64 to 2.2 ghz for the big cores and 1.8 for the low power cores. Its interesting how much performance we can get with this cosmetic changes. obviously, its at my own risk. the rockpro64 was tested at higher frequencies than 1866 mhz, so I would expect at least that armbian should b…

Hi, is possible to setup overlayf on Amrbian? I'm using Orange Pi Zero. I found only this https://docs.armbian.com/User-Guide_Advanced-Features/#how-to-freeze-your-filesystem-outdated and docs is outdated. On Rapsbian I can enable overlayfs directly from raspi-config. Is there any way how to do the same on Armbian? Thanks for help.

i want to dive into the creating of file-systems on Linux. so i have some ideas: can you give me some hints on these steps. can i break all down and say so: - in order to do the very first steps in creating a file system ... basically, I'm trying to do the following steps: - create a disk image of about 500MB; - create a GPT; - create a FAT32 partition in the first 300MB(I'll call it UEFI); - create a FAT32 partition in the remaining bytes(I'll call it SYSTEM); - create the following subdirectory in the UEFI partition: /EFI/BOOT/; that said we have the following things: Layouting a disk image and copyin…

I bought few Geobooks 1E and all had regardless distro same issue. Random hangups immediately or few minutes after boot finished or after few days of run or hours. On Armbian distro after trying some other things I enabled kernel messages in sysctl.conf. And then I got something like, luckily immediately when login prompt appeared, : rtw_8821ce 0000:01:00.0: failed to dequeue 4088 skb Tx queue 5, .... when laptop stopped responding to keyboard immediately afterwards. After some research I found solution, plugged USB lan adapter, disabled wifi otherwise it would knocked system down a did these next steps to replace wifi driver and hopefully af…

Been hearing some news lately about some pretty big ARM Mali GPU vulnerabilities. Old boards could be affected, including ones that are not maintained. https://hothardware.com/news/arm-warns-of-mali-gpu-vulnerabilities https://developer.arm.com/Arm Security Center/Mali GPU Driver Vulnerabilities https://arstechnica.com/security/2023/10/vulnerable-arm-gpu-drivers-under-active-exploitation-patches-may-not-be-available/ I have a Rockchip RK3399 that may also be affected by this. Can Armbian do anything to help mitigate this problem? A handful of boards use these GPUs.

Hello, I got the itch to experiment with Linux on ARM. I tried to get an Odroid N2+ bit seems to be unavailable everywhere. The best thing I could get at a reasonable cost was a Nanopi M4v2, it'll arrive in about 3 weeks. While I wait I remembered that I have an Ouya laying around and I asked myself: Is it possible to install linux on an Ouya? Searching the internet there are very old guides from 2013 to install ubuntu, had the situation improved? Anyone here tried?

Hi, I just got 2 of these. Everything is fine but you need to order power adapter 12V 2A with 3.5mm x 1.35mm connector. Unfortunately due to earlier version of BIOS compare to same looking GeoBook 1E but with dualcore Celeron N4020 it cannot boot from microSD card. Speakers are rubbish but it could be good for some low powered machine projects. And one advice. Do not change "Quick boot" option in BIOS setting or it will not boot and you will need to unplug battery to reset BIOS. It work with both Windows 11 or Linux with no extra drivers mods needed. 5Ghz wifi and bluetooth also included. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/166222480445

I was searching google for pointers and i ended in topic here about Android TV boxes that can have Emmc reflashed with Armbian or dual boot. Hi All, I wonder if anyone ever succeeded in getting the USB 2.0 port of this board work properly. I'd like to (try to) use it as a *very* low cost ADS-B receiver using an external RTL-SDR dongle, but despite the fact that the port is claimed to be a 2.0 (and recognized by the OS as a 2.0 Hub) when I attach the dongle (which is a high speed 2.0) no driver are loaded and is instead recognized as a full speed device, therefore the RTL-SDR library stops working with transfer errors, since it needs the 480M transfer speed of the 2.0 port and is unable to work with the 12M speed of the "full" standard. Here is my dmesg | grep usb …

How to mirror only single distro, single platform on some device itself or local LAN? Lets say some device / network needs to be self sufficient. I've had this going for quite some time now regarding Rockchip RK3588 boards, specifically for me, the somewhat PC-alike Firefly ITX-3588J, and trying to see if it is possible to create or refine the various software out there so that it could be made to work like a PC, e.g. with EFI booting off USB sticks, GRUB, etc. for loading an OS without needing an external computer. This has been tried on and off over the past year, without much luck owing to how incomplete the software for this board type is. However, it seems that in the most recent versions of mainline U-Boot (i.e. U-Boot 2023) at least, there's enough RK3588 support to get it up and running, and I have my machi…

Hi, I am trying to run armclang on Ubuntu (running in WSL2 on Windows 11). I have downloaded and installed Arm Dev Studio 2022.1 for Linux, by following the instructions in the Getting Started Guide: getting_started_101469_2021.2_00_en.pdf I ran: $ armds-2022.1.sh followed by: $ run_post_install_for_Arm_Development_Studio_2022.1.sh The install appears to have completed ok, but I don't know how to add the license. One would normally use the IDE to do so but I can't get the GUI to work in WSL2 (theoretically WSL2 on Windows 11 supports graphical apps). Is it possible to configure the license from the command line? A long shot: has a…

To monitor and restart boards, we could use the FOSS Android app RasPi Check. However, Armbian needs to reply to all requests from the app (with a valid or dummy value). I looked into it a while back. Perhaps there are more people interested in it from the Armbian community. Let me know if you want to work on this too.

Hi All, I'm a bit of a Debian newbie, I haven't had much experience troubleshooting linux installations, so please bear with me. I was able to follow Martin Michlmayr's instructions for installing Debian 10 on my TS-212. The TS-212 uses a Marvell ARM CPU, 256MB of ram, 16MB of SPI NOR flash. I also followed the instructions to resize the MTD blocks to make room for the Debian 11 kernel, although i never updated the kernel. Everything was working fine until I booted one day and I got flashing red lights on the front of the NAS. I hooked up to the debug serial port, and I find that the hard drive has all kinds of non-recoverable errors, and Debian …

This looks very interesting, kswapd is essentially a cpu hungry process in nearly most common tasks that move memory around, glad to hear there is interesting work on to bring down cpu usage and make page swapping better. I would like to bring the patches in for some kernel and see if things would improve for light/medium desktop workloads. Anyone has some experience about?

I started this journey with DietPi on a nanopi r4s. I asked about it on the DietPi forum, and they basically said "Our distro is a bunch of scripts on top of Armbian. We can't really help you with a kernel problem." So I reimaged with Armbian and I'm here now. Background with DietPi: When I first boot the DietPi image, the LAN port works. This is on kernel 5.10.63. Then as soon as I log into it via ssh on the IP address acquired by the LAN port, it proceeds to auto-upgrade software, including the kernel, which goes to 5.15.25. During the upgrade, I got messages saying a bunch of firmware for the r8169 driver was not there. Installing armbian-firmware-full…

Hi folks, this is my first thread here, I just recently came aboard since I found that Armbian is the better solution for my Odroi-HC4 therefore I won't insist on checking for info and solution on the Odroid Forum. I am not very satisfied with Hardkernel, they produce excellent board with very poor OS support, looks like such critical aspect is left on the shoulder of a couple of great dudes but is not same as having a community behind; also board as the RPI demonstrated that a great OS support is better than having the most powerful hardware, is the same lesson learned by Rock64 even though I won't user Manjaro not even under torture... 😜 …

Recently, a new SBC, the Rock Pi S by Radxa, was launched. Here's it's wiki page: https://wiki.radxa.com/RockpiS It's a 4 core A35 design. I'm debating getting one, but I can't find any information anywhere as to whether or not it's supported on Linux, or Armbian. Of course, if it's not listed in the download section it's not supported, but there's a difference between, "I need to add 100 lines of code and it will work." to "Geez, I need to redesign most of the Linux kernel after pulling my hair out." I did search the sunxi wiki and the local armbian wiki without success. Anyone know anything? Thanks!

What do you think about SBCs as the preferred platform to handle encrypted/sensitive/classified data? The threat model would be for frequent travelers, against things like evil maid attacks on laptops left in a hotel room or while the laptop is separated from you during travel. The sensitive data would be kept on an encrypted portable hard drive. It would be decrypted and mounted by the SBC, which only allows login via SSH from your laptop's public key. SBCs have a number of benefits over desktops and laptops, namely: Its hardware is plainly inspectable and difficult to tamper with. Unlike desktops or laptops which are vulnerable to evil ma…

Hi, I decided to sell my Helios64 full bundle: - Helios64 box (case, board, UPS) - 5 3.5" HDD trays (+ screws) - 2 PSU (the original one and an additional compatible Synology one I bought because I saw some posts where people reported a broken PSU) It served me well during 2 years, however the lack of official support and missing features are showstoppers for me, and I recently replaced it with a custom x86 build. I am sure people here would be interested in it. The Helios64 works perfectly and is in very good shape, it was off the most of the time, I only started it when I needed to make a backup. I was searching for certain hard-to-find chip (TDA1022 BBD) and found this site ( www.chimicron.com ) mentioned as a source. They have it in stock and at a pretty decent price. Most of their stuff I’ve seen seems reasonably priced, but I couldn’t find mentions/opinions of the site here or in a few other diy communities. I’m not sure the location of the company (either Hong Kong or China?), but everything is listed in dollars (but then again so is Tayda). Has anyone purchase through this site? Any issues with quality of the productions such as questionable authenticity? Are shipping/handling times reasonable? Thank you!

I think that this will further influence the popularity of the venture.

Hi Scrolling through the forum I realized how old this SBC is that I purchased but I had no choice since basically all other options are out of stock in my country with lead-times past this year... I am looking for someone that can assist me. I replaced a failed Raspberry Pi 4 with this Banana Pi bpi-m4 board thinking that it would perform and work as a like-for-like replacement. I enjoy Armbian on an Odroid XU4 but the generic and existing Banana Pi images does not work on the bpi-m4. Sadly my software engineering skill…

Hi there, with the global lockdown, I had to move my "lab" at home... and I have trouble with the infamous WAF. So I moved almost everything in the attic, and would have loved to pull an Ethernet cable from my ISP box to the "lab" Wi-Fi router, but it's not significant other's compatible. As strange as it may seem, the Wi-Fi signal coming from the ISP box is really strong in the attic, so I thought of redirecting the Wi-Fi to the 24 ports switch thanks to a SBC. I don't want the SBC to act as a router, I want to use the router which is in my ISP box, so that I can still interact easily with the machines in the attic wherever I may be in the house. I…

The Z80-MBC2 is a 4-chip Z80-computer which can run CP/M and has a 5V TTL-serial-port. The Z80-MBC2 is powered and accessable via a USB-TTL-serial-adapter (configured to 5V - not 3.3V) type CP2102 seen as /dev/ttyUSB0 The easy way would be to connect the USB-adapter to a Pi-style computer wth armbian, login via SSH and start minicom for the port. But that way doenst look as good - to me - as the following way First we need to install ser2net and telnet (telnet doesnt seem to be installed as standard) in armbian via apt install ser2net telnet Then we have to edit /etc/ser2net.conf (delete all lines after the comments and in…

Hi, I have a Rock Pi 4B and trying to enable Monitor Mode on the onboard WiFi. According to this article it should work - RockPi4-Monitor-Mode The file download link is broken so was advised to use this one - https://github.com/radxa/rkwifibt/blob/master/brcm_tools/dhd_priv.c However when running the command - gcc dhd_priv.c -o dhd_priv I just get loads of errors. Has anyone managed to use monitor mode with the built in WiFi, or could possibly help to resolve all the error messages you get

Hi , As i am trying to customize the Root File System for A64 core board. While in process, we are installing the packages like NodeJS and MySQL-server in the RFS. But we are unable to install it, it gives us core dump error. It demolishing RFS. Whereas we can do install all other packages. Let me know, what can be done for these packages to install. Hi all, unfortunately the USB power port on my Nanopi M4 V2 has broken off and I can't see a way to reattach it securely - it looks like it's just a push fit onto the board on 4 little tabs no solder involved no wonder it eventually fell off. I've heard that it's possible to power the Nano via the GPIO pins - anyone here done that - I'm not to clued up with all things electrical but I can solder ? I'm thinking I could make a cable to connect to the pins

Hi, i need a gpio to trigger a key stroke. I had an raspberry pi zero and this worked for setting up an gpio to trigger a key stroke. For this question the assumption is that a board actually has a maintainer and I think the answer given will be useful for anyone else with the same or similar question. May end up being a candidate for some FAQ list. Question is.... If a board has a maintainer and the user builds the image themselves using the recommended default kernel/compilation option, why is there no support for the built image? Rationale behind the question is if the user decides to change the kernel build options then there would bo no doubt that the user will be on their own with no support, but if the kernel is built with the default hard built options then there ha…

Hello everybody. I'm a newcomer here. I tried several times (6 or 7) to use the "Search" function, typing either "OBS" or "OBS Studio", but the page crashed everytime, prompting me to wait 30 seconds (in vain). So I'm considering buying an Odroid N2+ and installing Armbian on it. As said in the title, I'd like to use OBS Studio on it, but would like to know if someone already installed it - and could use it of course -, just to spare time. Maybe it's already been discussed somewhere here, but as I said, the "Search" function doesn't work for me. Thanks in advance.

Folks, has anyone tried using one of those 5V DIN rail-mounted PSUs (eg Mean Well HDR-XX series) for powering the boards and HDDs? My "server" stack has grown to 10+ boards (many thanks to this forum!) and I am thinking of getting a couple of powerful industry-grade 5V units, but not sure if they provide computer-grade output, especially 12V for HDDs. Any thoughts?

I can clearly see the point for the maintainers, but there is an issue with the old boards. For example, I have a cubietruck which I would definitely like it to keep being supported, and I could probably help to maintain it within Armbian. Though I do have only one board which works 24/7. To my understanding, I can not be a maintainer, as I can't test new releases on a productive board. So If no one has two pieces, then the board can not be supported. In this case, I expect that current owners have to freeze kernel updates and keep the board for some more months - years, or try to test and use plain Debian or other distros. Is there any other alternative?

Hi, I have a simple question: we need to buy some ARM 64 boards and we would like to select the Rock64 (2G and 4G) - I saw that now Rock64 is CSC (community only supported). Being our priority to use Armbian OS on the boards, does this means that we could not see Armbian no more supported (no upgrades) in the next future? Thanks Franco

Hi there, Yesterday, I asked this question on Twitter, but did not get lots of answers. I know I could get an aarch64 workstation, run a 64 bits kernel on it and a 32 bits userspace on top of it, but where is the fun? One year ago or so, I built an armv7 Docker image for me, and I realized only this week that it had been downloaded more than 2 million times. What a pleasant surprise. I launched the build once again to get everything updated, but I discovered the armv7 CI/CD services I used to run my builds on were ... gone. I then switched back to my Orange Pi Zero "farm" to get the images built, but it takes ages, and you know how reliable the SDCar…

Hello all, I'm doing a project which is essentially a lighted cube, that communicates status through different colors, where I get this ides from Basic Projects with Arduino (link removed). So when the light goes below a certain level it turns a certain color, when temp goes above a certain level it turns another color, etc. I'm figuring I'll probably need anywhere from 2 to 4 LEDs per color to get a nice intensity, and the colors would breathe, which is pretty easy with PWM on the arduino. What I'm thinking is that I'm going to leave all the colors in phase. So that the intensity ramp on red is the same as yellow, is the same as green, etc. That would requi…

Hello Everyone, I'm currently doing an assignment for one of my classes, and in it, I have to give examples, using Java syntax, of *static* and *dynamic binding*. I am lost while understanding the work process. I understand the basic concept, that static binding happens at compile time and dynamic binding happens at runtime, but I can't figure out how they actually work specifically. I found an example of static binding online that gives this example and running the program on interviewbit. public static void callEat(Animal animal) { System.out.println("Animal is eating"); } public static void callEat(Dog dog) { System.out.println("Dog is eating")…

Dear all, As said elsewhere, I'm interested in distributed scientific computing, namely BOINC, and more specifically the Einstein@Home project: https://boinc.berkeley.edu/ https://einsteinathome.org/fr/home ARM platforms seem to be a good choice for that purpose IMHO. Even though they lack the raw power of x86_64, at least they don't use a lot of energy and don't need active cooling most of the time (I can't stand the noise of a fan ). At the moment I'm running BOINC on two ARM nodes: a Raspberry PI 3 (Raspbian) and a NanoPi M1 (Armbian). Both are quite dated now and don't allow me to contribute much to this project. …

I have wanted 'multi-room networked audio' since years. Sort of like Sonos, except I don't use proprietary stuff. So recently, I finally got it working, and even using strictly F/LOSS tools, which I was pretty happy about! I will mention that I am using Mopidy as source, piping that in to snapserver (snapcast), which synchronize the audio to various devices across the network (each running snapclient) so you have a picture of how it works. Maybe I make separate thread / blog post about that, but here I mention it only as criteria for selecting hardware (as these tools must be supported). Currently I have one old RPi 3 [0] with a HifiBerry AMP2…

Hi, I'm part of a nonprofit working on improving access to digital education in the developing world. I'm looking for a fairly cheap SBC (<$20) that has a HDMI port so that it can be connected to a TV monitor (including old TVs like CRTs). The microSD card will be preloaded with static webpages from educational websites so that students can surf these websites at home. It should also have bluetooth or a USB port so it can be connected to a keyboard ($10) or mouse ($1). I don't strictly need wifi (the microSD cards can be updated on a different device), but it would be a plus. Another nice-to-have would be compatibility with Android apps, since…

Hello, Apologies if this posted in wrong section. I'm running Armbian buster with Linux 5.4.20-sunxi on an Orange Pi 0 (512) and recently I decided to install openmediavault. So I added a 32G USB flash memory and both lsblk and lsusb failed to display the device. So I followed instructions at with no avail. Now I know that USB ports used to work a couple of months earlier and I have cleaned the dusty ports and tried many different UDB flash memories and no result. Appreciate any help and thank you.

Hi. Firstly, is anyone working on building Armbian for the Quartz64? If no one else is I would love to give it a try. What I already have:- A Quartz64 running slarm64 (or the default manjaro) Kernel source for above and a dtb file. A build environment that seems to work (I just built an image for Rock 3a on it). Can anyone give me some ideas on how I clone an existing device in the build environment and start modifying it so that it can build something new? I notice that the legacy kernel that it produced for the Rock 3a is version 4.19.193 which looks good for the Quartz64 as well. The advantage of this older …

Suppose that you have a bunch of dtb/dts files that are known good (like from Linux kernel source). Suppose that you have a dtb file that you ripped out of some new device and probably no source code. This tool will allow to dump all of the parameters (nodes) out of the dtb file and compare it with all of the other ones that you have in a spreadsheet so that you can visualise the differences.
