Hi there, I was wondering if there is a GPIO generic Python library somewhere for Armbian? I think I remember that the pins are not always announced the same way on Armbian and on OrangePi distros. I have seen this effort by @chwe, but is there anything else? Thanks.

  2. Dear all, First post here I just wanted to thank you for the up-to-date image you made for the pcDuino4 Nano (a.k.a the NanoPI M1): https://armbian.hosthatch.com/archive/nanopim1/archive/ It's much better than the stock image provided my LinkSprite, based upon Debian 8 "Jessie": https://www.linksprite.com/pcduino4-nano/ I only had one issue so far with your image, certainly related to the default overclocking at 1368 MHz, which didn't play well with the CPU intensive, NEON optimized tasks I threw at it (BOINC) I lowered the frequency to 1296 MHz and it's been running stable for a couple …

I've built my own security cameras for about 8 years (using computer vision, ML, etc.), but now I want to do something off the shelf so to speak. I just wired my attic to my office with cat 6 cable and my house is wired with cat5e, More than likely the cameras will be plugged directly into the SBC from the attic via PoE. My question is which SBC would be able to handle hardware H265 decoding using 4K cameras at 30 fps? That's about 27 Mbps per camera times 4 cameras. iperf test from my attic showed 961 Mbps using ODroid XU4. So my questions are: Which SBC can handle H265 hardware decoding of four 4K cameras? I want to have 2 1Gbps ports, so I can have camera…

  7. Hi there, let's say I'd like to mimic this device because I'm filming events with several cameras and audio recorders, and that it's really time consuming to synchronize everything before the real editing. So... I was thinking of starting with a GPS module on top of an Orange Pi Zero to get the initial UTC time fix, adding also a temperature compensated crystal to keep it running if we lose the GPS signal (which will happen for sure, as most of my recordings are inside buildings). The goal there is to generate an audio signal thanks to libltc and to add that to the original audio/video in real time. How would you get the GPS+Crystal to set the time for …

When I select Additional Hardware Drivers none show up, so maybe there isnt a GPU accelerated driver available. Also switching between desktops feels sluggish. Maybe Im expecting too much performance from a $50 SBC. Thanks for your help & time in making this distribution. Im just looking to make the best user experience possible.

Hi We've made a patch for the current a64 megous 5.10 kernel which enables writing to the 2K SID/Efuse security area of the A64/R18 processor. Our initial investigations have found that the A64 doesn't seem to match the tables found in the SID Register Guide, however we've proceeded to perform various write tests and are presenting our results here for anyone that may found it useful in further development. There shouldn't be any issues using the same patch in the 5.14 kernel, as the driver code is still the same. The patch won't be pushed upstream, and is for dev purposes only, as the original intend of the driver is to be read-only. (This is EFUSE area …

Rather than try to build this from scratch I used c-periphery and HawtJNI to generate the JNI wrappers. This saves a lot of hand coding and allows for easier synchronization with c-periphery changes moving forward. I believe this is the only userspace IO library that supports the new JDK 17 LTS (and still supports JDK 11). I had to fork HawtJNI to make it work with JDK 17. The only caveat is that ARM32 supports JDK 11. For some reason I cannot find a JDK 17 for ARM32 or information on why is was not supported. The insta…

  56. Hi all, my first post here. Just a short question - is it possible to configure static IP address before the first boot by editing some configuration file in boot partition? I had to SSH to Orange Pi PC after installing Armbian_21.05.1_Orangepipc_buster_current_5.10.34.img in the network where there isn't DHCP and I set up the static IP address by connecting the SBC to the monitor and running nmtui. I could set the IP address by connecting the SBC directly to the computer by using LAN cable too but the easiest way would be if there is an option of configuring the static IP by editing some file in boot partition before the first boot.

  57. I just have to share my method to test distros headless with my OdroidN2. The N2 boots eMMC before SD card, so what I did was to flash the SD card with an armbian distro and get it up and running. the SD card always shows up on mmcblk0 and the eMMC on mmcblk1. So it boots from SD when it can't find a bootloader on the eMMC. I can flash any image easily with dd if=image of=/dev/mmcblk1 and just do a reboot, and it will boot the eMMC. Whenever I want to test another image, i can just do dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/mmcblk1 bs=1M count=1 to make the eMMC unbootable, causing it to start on the SD image on the next reboot. A very …

Over a year (or two?) I used a PS1-line in my ~/-bashrc with many cryptic ANSI-Escape-codes which were hard to read and edit export PS1='\[\033[1;36m\]\u\[\033[1;37m\]@\[\033[1;33m\]\h\[\033[1;37m\](\[\033[1;32m\]$THEIP\[\033[1;37m\])\[\033[1;31m\]:\[\033[1;36m\]\w\[\033[1;31m\]\$\[\033[0m\] ' Today I did installed Linux Lite 4.6 on a PC (a former Chromebox) and did see the nice Powerline prompt and did try to use that on a nanoPi Neo2. 59. Hi, i'm using a Raspad tablet-like device with a aml-s905x-cc inside and i'm experimenting some mobile interface that i can use with the touchscreen, but also with mouse and keyboard. I'm simply curious about convergence desktop designs and mobile desktop environments. The obvious choice would be GNOME, but it is very heavy, both on memory and cpu usage and my board with only 2GB of ram cannot handle it if combined with other heavy programs. I knew that Librem was developing a desktop environment for their Librem 5 linux phone. Since they focus on opensource software i thought if i can install their desktop environment on my tablet to try it and.... yes, it is possib…

I am running on fedora as can be seen here. Fedora is not device-specific, only architecture-specific. If you want to experiment, drop in a distro-boot capable u-boot for your device in the firmware area and you should be good enough to go. I have never tested my image on a different device so YMMV.

After my provider (Unitymedia/Vodafone NRW/Germany) asked to run a complete new station search my installation stopped working for me:Stations were missing, EPG-infos not displayed anymore. So I decided to make a hole new installation. The DVB-USB stick was detected fine again (see picture), the configuration wizard is executed step by step, the scan process starts - but stays at 89%, even after 3 hours (see picture). If I stop ithe process, several stations are missing, the EPG-info is missing in wide parts of the stations and the EPG-search is not working at all.. I'm pretty disillusioned. No system for the rockpi meets all my expectations. But TwisterOS comes very close. Even though I don't play computer games, I like the desktop and also the gimmick with the circles. Most of all I like that I can run Kodi and firefox from the same login. This is exactly what I was looking for. Unfortunately the hardware PWM does not work under TwisterOS. Neither via overlay, nor with manually changed dtb file. I discovered that TwisterOS and LE use the same kernel version. Under LE my driver works, so I would like to try copying the kernel from LE to TwisterOS. Now both systems boot completely different. What do I need to…

I would like to add all the tools of ARMBIAN and its rich software kingdom into this minimal LINUX. COREELEC does not know about 'apt' by purpose and thats' fair enough and respected. And there are lots of reason to discuss why to do so or not. But that is beyond the scope of this thread. Any hint would be helpfull. Thanks Gerry

Really the only change is that .dtbo files need to be compiled with symbols (-@) like this: dtc -@ -o myoverlay.dtbo myoverlay.dts And then you can load/unload those overlays after (or during) boot by doing something like this: # Creates the dynamic overlay mkdir /sys/kernel/config/device-tree/overlays/myoverlay # Load the dynamic overlay cat myoverlay.dtbo > /sys/kerne…

Before we change anything - proper testing and writing down the steps to achieve a great result is a must. Multiplatform, would be nice, but we can as well recommend 2 or 3 SDcard writing programs. 82. it's nice and handy to be able to backup our os image and restore it, just in case. The problem is that a full os backup need the root partition to be mounted read only. And some of us are running the device without any monitor attached (headless) or it's not very practical to get acces to the sdcard (for exemple, when the device is installed in the electrical cabinet) So, I had the idea of creating some kind of ramdisk with some utilities (base tools, ssh, rsync...) to backup the "offline" root partition and send it to another computer. Ultimately, this process could be started also by network boot, by U-Boot script. When you decide to backup the root pa…
