It's been a while since I ran my VBox installed build system. apt-update gives the following error - Err:3 http://repo.aptly.info nightly InRelease The following signatures couldn't be verified because public key is not available: NO_PUBKEY ED75B5A4483DA07C but continues. Is there something I should do or ignore? I started from scratch and pulled the directory and ./compile'd again and everything seemed to go fine, produced output which I will test today.

This topic is a response to the growing number of kernels, growing number of boards with... "unique properties", and for the increased complexity of some platofrms (aarch64 and the atf, etc). I think the coherency of the chosen organizational method is starting to fall apart. So just a thought experiment on my part: Currently, we have a sources directory, and the sources file has not just sources, but also executable script functions in it. We also do our patches per SoC, mostly, but the organization is by the thing being compiled rather than by the target, making finding/adjusting a bit cumbersome in some cases. I would propose a di…

I did a patch to allow armbian build system produce image with root on xfs filesystem. Kernel should have build-in filesystem support, and `RELEASE` have to contain required filesystem utilities. Then all need to be done — add filesystem to build process. Patch for builder attached. Then image have to be build with separate /boot filesystem. command should look like ./compile.sh BOARD=rockpi-4a BRANCH=current RELEASE=focal BUILD_MINIMAL=no BUILD_DESKTOP=no KERNEL_ONLY=no KERNEL_CONFIGURE=yes BOOTSIZE=250 ROOTFS_TYPE=xfs Spoiler diff --git a/lib/configuration.sh b/lib/configuration.sh index b825ca4b..2a65e075 100644 --- a/lib/con…

Hello there Maintainers! o/ I have found something while builiding my image and would like to ask for your opinion on that :-) I have built a Docker build environment where things are going real smooth (After some tinkering ;-) In order to save everyone's bandwidth (and be able to do builds while offline), I was tinkering with IGNORE_UPDATES=yes FORCE_CHECKOUT=no compile option. Well. That causes the build to fail, because after the first compile and its patch, a second round with these flags will cause the patch to be applied again and potentially breaking stuffs. I'm circumventing it by moving the p…

@Igor Could we imagine another mechanism than to use git as an "upload front-end" ? Using git as some kind of spool folder is really not ideal. For instance if I clone today the armbian upload git project the size of the objects is already reaching 1.2 GB for a project that is essentially just a structure of empty folders. I even see the following error during cloning Cloning into 'upload'... remote: Enumerating objects: 75, done. remote: Counting objects: 100% (75/75), done. remote: Compressing objects: 100% (61/61), done. kex protocol error: type 7 seq 49316022.52 MiB | 6.67 MiB/s remote: Total 844 (delta 33), reused 40 (delta 14), pack-reuse…

Hi all, here's a newbie question: -How to change root-file-system? Eg. for ex. change settings in a file /etc/network/interfaces, when building the whole image. I tried to use the build/userpatches/overlay folder and add changed files there, but didn't work... I'm probably missing something. br. Mike

1. What is the purpose when compilation errors are sent to a common output and then branched to a file? It turns out a million lines. It is reasonable to have only compiler error messages. 2. What is the purpose when the kernel-source package is built with include the folder /.git/? It is not traditional 3. Why folder with sources not cleared fully before compilation? git commands: git reset --hard HEAD; git clean -df guarantee a clean sheet before starting work

Hi there, i try to compile a kernel via: apt-get -y install git git clone https://github.com/igorpecovnik/lib--depth 1 cp lib/compile.sh . chmod +x compile.sh ./compile.sh In compile.sh, i changed: KERNEL_ONLY="yes" and added KERNELTAG="v4.3.5" I get an error which can be seen in the attached file. I was able to compile 4.3.4 on the same machine, so i do not expect enironment issues. Any hint? Thx, A.

Hi, my name is Tom and i am an embedded developer. I am aiming to dig into the CSI0 camera interface for the bananapi. Admittedly, i am new to the linux way of coding and compilation. Thus far for armbian, i realized,... ....compilation by script "compile.sh"...which checks all needed tools, code, updates...downloads everything...runs a config screen to select target, platform, ...and yeah..it works. When i run the script two times ...it keeps compiling again. hmm+ My experience is, that i do have the sourcecode, a compiler script/makefile....and it will just update the changes i did on the source. (old scool:-) so if i have the source in a direc…

Hello, guys, is this possible to choose a custom board-specific kernel config located in "userpatches" based on $BOARD variable? I am trying to customize different boards and I have no idea how to provide a specific config for, let's say, sun6i bananapi and sun8i orangepipc when I build "next" kernel, because all of them are covered by linux-sunxi-next.config. It seems like I need to change your scripts but I wouldn't like to.. Thanks.

It seems to me like we currently have at least 2-3 separate initiatives going on which are in some way at least touching upon the very heart of the project (the build system). I wanted to bring attention to them and begin a high level strategic discussion of what the best way forward might be. I expect this will take some significant time for everyone to really have a chance to weigh in and (ideally) eventually to come to some sort of consensus. I will confess that I don't even really understand the build system myself. In fact I think only a few people really do. So as a side effect I hope to increase my own understanding. And eventually improve document…

I am trying to build an updated image for an orange pi zero using the mainline buster headless. I tried on an ubuntu 20.04 VM (on a fedora host) and on a natively ubuntu20.04 installed laptop. Both fail to compile the kernel with the same error. Below is my compile config file and my compilation.log is attached. Any ideas what is going wrong here? I know I don't have the make terget in CLEAN_LEVEL, but I even tried when completely removing the whole armbian-build folder and cloning a fresh repos and removing all apt-cache-ng cache. So it's not due to that. # Read build script documentation https://docs.armbian.com/Developer-Guide_Build-Options/ # for detai…

Hello all, I recently went through the exercise of getting the Armbian build system set up to create an image with some of my user customizations, similar to the example with OMV. The documentation and forums have been a huge help! As I am running Fedora and Windows as my main OSes, I did struggle a bit at first. I tried, in order: Ignoring the advice of the documentation, and running ./compile.sh on Fedora. Didn't get far Running the build with Docker on Fedora. I ran into a number of different problems and ultimately gave up. Running on Ubuntu 18.04 on WSL2. I did eventually get a build to complete, but the image may h…

Hello, while reading the build tools scripts I found this part of the license text to be fishy: # This file is licensed under the terms of the GNU General Public # License version 2. This program is licensed "as is" without any # warranty of any kind, whether express or implied. I think the intent was to say "whether expressed or implied". Can I get confirmation, so I can prepare a PR for changing all the (cut'n'pasted) occurrences ?

Based on discussions the last days/weeks it seems obvious to me that we should document default Armbian security so that people know what they get and where to tweak if they have specific concerns. I took a few minutes to start with a list of issues that should IMO be addressed (no specific order): Explain where password strength policies originate Restore distro default sshd settings if concerned: sed -i 's/PermitRootLogin yes/PermitRootLogin without-password/' /etc/ssh/sshd_config Use and purpose of haveged: https://github.com/igorpecovnik/lib/issues/503 'Secure delete' on SD card, eMMC or SSD (overwriting contents on the FS layer requires a sync call if followed …

Hi I want to build armbian for nanopi neo with a different mainline. I need customization in configuration file for: a) DISTROS=("jessie" "xenial" "stretch" "bionic") b) ${SCRIPTPATH}config/armbian.key I want to make patch for it, but I need a few decisions: 1. Should I use lib.config as the configuration source? Maybe we prefer a separate file? 2. Can I unify RELEASE_LIST=("xenial" "jessie" "stretch" "bionic") from build-all and DISTROS=("jessie" "xenial" "stretch" "bionic") from repository.sh into one common parameter? 3. Do we accept the name for the parameter: GPG_PUBLIC_KEY=config/armbian.key?

I've noticed that in order to be able to build offline, I need not only to specify OFFLINE_WORK=yes as per this documentation: OFFLINE_WORK ( yes | no ): skip downloading and updating sources as well as time and host check. Set to “yes” and you can collect packages without accessing the internet but also IGNORE_UPDATES=yes. Probably because of this is main.sh: # ignore updates help on building all images - for internal purposes if [[ $IGNORE_UPDATES != yes ]]; then display_alert "Downloading sources" "" "info" I don't see here in main.sh where is is checking for build-all..... so it seems that unless i specif…

Hello everybody, I'm trying to build a full bootable image for the Rock pi 4B using a VM with the recommended build system I followed the build instructions in https://docs.armbian.com/Developer-Guide_Build-Preparation/. I got the image built without errors. At this point I haven't tried the image because I still want to change a source file and recompile. I changed the file in question: build/cache/sources/linux-mainline/linux-5.10.y/drivers/pci/controller/pcie-rockchip-host.c and rerun compile.sh in the build directory. The system builds again without issues, but the file I edited get replaced by the original content along the way.…

Hi, I tested to build some deb package yesterday on my Nanopi M1 and it went surprisingly good and quite fast so I wondered ... I know that the documented way of building armbian is with a x64 computer (with Virtualbox / docker). As I already stated I don't have a big enough x64 computer at hand, would it be feasible to tweak the scripts to build one image (not all) using either my Nanopi M1 (but I guess 512Mo of RAM will be problematic) or a Banana Pi / Raspberry Pi 2 ? If not, building uboot / kernel only ? I started to read the scripts, there are many scripts and but I think I can understand many of them individually even if the global architecture is h…

some simple thoughts to help (assuming limited time consumption) - adding a short "Roadmap" (main & side quests) section (in docs.armbian.com/Process_Contribute/ ?) displaying "main" goals for current & possible next iterations because currently the single tasks is the forum are useful but not "readable" - a (google group?) mailing list (read only) for contributors (to push roadmap changes & call for tasks) - a separate mailing list (read only) to call testers when needed - a page to report testing per board (wiki? google web document?)

Hi, while testing with various sun8i legacy builds with connected display it came to my attention that kernel always panics at shutdown (in fact I was all the time doing a reboot so it took me some time to notice this). I tried to replace our rmmod example here with this code for module in $(cut -f1 -d' ' </proc/modules) ; do rmmod -f ${module} ; done But to no avail. Still on shutdown or reboot the kernel panics, waits 10 seconds and reboots then. Behaviour might be related to recent kernel additions (FriendlyARM Matrix stuff)? And the other question is which drawbacks the above code could have?

First, I'd like to say thank you for creating this. I have a Pine64 board and have built and loaded an Ubuntu Armbian build on the board. I'm now looking to develop custom software which will include a custom audio driver and custom audio software. I anticipate this means one or more custom kernel modules and custom user space software. I've read through all the documentation and will begin experimenting, but thought I'd check to see if somebody has created a cookbook style recipe for the following: 1. Kernel development: incrementally modifying the kernel, building and deploying on the test board. I can see deployment through the created .deb files, but…

I saw bionic image for download, so I thought I would build my customized image for OPI PC based on Ubuntu Bionic and 4.18.y kernel, so I have some questions: 1. Using ./compile.sh, I'm not able to build ATF for the H5. It appears that the problem is that it's looking for the "allwinner-stable" branch, when the branch name on the repositiory is just "allwinner" or "allwinner-testing". Error is at the bottom of the post. I got it to work by changing the branch name in ./build/config/sources/sunxi64_common.inc by setting ATFBRANCH='branch:allwinner-stable' and it appears to work. Greetings. Can I make sure I've understood this correctly. I want to ensure kernel sources always come from a local development directory. In my /userpatches I've got a lib.config which has: KERNELDIR="/home/user/sources/linux-sun8i" with both KERNELSOURCE and KERNELBRANCH commented out. Is this the right thing to do? Please forgive the badly formatted post, I am a bit new here. Please note, however, that up until yesterday, I had never written a device tree overlay, so this will not be in the correct format by any stretch of the imagination. Not sure if it is me not understanding (may well be! built my last kernels in 1997 I think...) or a flaw in this patch: https://github.com/armbian/build/blob/master/patch/kernel/sunxi-dev/general-sunxi-overlays.patch which is supposed to fix this bug if I understand correctly: https://github.com/armbian/build/pull/1663 Looking at the patch file in my built tree: build/patch/kernel/sunxi-dev/general-sunxi-overlays.patch To my understanding it contains the (re)addition of dts files for sun7i-a20-spi{0..2}, i.e. as of line 3456 it addes the spi0.dts source. However, building the dev kernel (latest, git updated two days…

I am building my own armbian image using the armbian build environment. A substantial part of the image creation time is occupied by over-and-over recompiling the kernel. Sure, it does go faster the 2nd time, but it still takes a lot of time. The goal for me is not to make a custom kernel. I am totally happy with the kernel. The goal for me is to modify the rest of the image. They installed software, config, etc. Is there a way to reuse an existing kernel for this, instead of rebuilding a new one each time? Cheers, Dolf.

Trying to add the hdmi hotplug udev rule to the build environment, adding it in the same manner as the C2 hdmi config script doesn't work, it tells me the file/folder doesn't exist, I'm guessing then that bsp family tweaks isn't the place to add it?

If I checked the configuration correctly, only Cubox, S500 and Udoo* don't have HAVE_UUID_SUPPORT=yes set, but AFAIK all boot scripts now load the initrd. @Igor can you add and test root by UUID on those boards? Also boot scripts for more boards could use /boot/ambianEnv.txt, I already tested it on XU4 and will try to test it on C2, will anybody be able to test it on C1 or C0 (it has much older u-boot)? If I remember correctly there were some problems either on Cubox or Udoo, but hopefully it can work on most of the left over configurations.

I have also tried flashing the stock image and then just replace kernel packages I had built, because I thought the problem could have to do with systemd. As l…

Hi, I'm trying to build debian kernel but using mainline 5.4.12 + patches from patch/kernel/sunxi-current. I took non disabled patches and apply patch -p1 for all of them and it fails at patch 0010-general-h6-add-dma-i2c-ir-spi-uart.patch in first hunk because opp node in dts doesn't exists. It's not in mainline not in patches. I have no idea how this works though. Is this patch then skipped or? Thanks. Marek

Hi, while toying around build system for Odroid C1 I saw that toolchains for arm-linux-gnueabihf where "old" as we are at "gcc-linaro-7.2.1-2017.11-x86_64_arm-linux-gnueabihf" since the 7.3.1 looks like it is not available for this platform. Hi, I tried to use the Legacy 3.4.113 but when it loads the kernel the Cubieboard2 shows a weird scrambeled picture on the Monitor and just shuts down. So I decided to build the kernel from source. I'm pretty new to Armbian, and the compile script is a lot of different. I built the kernel using the compile.sh script for Cubieborad2. I installed the Mainline 4.9.7 Armbian on Cubieboard2. My question is how to install the built kernel (3.x) on the existing system, as if I try to install the debs I get that I can't install over existing firmware and u-boot (even with force-install)? Thanks!

Hello, I know this will be a controversial subject, but I often like to see what's happening in a devel repository by browsing commits. I start by looking at the commit titles (first commit message line) to approximate the interest that particular entry is to me, then if deemed interesting, I'll read the full commit message to understand what it is about, then if still interested I'll go read the code. I think this is a fairly straightforward approach to digging in a codebase or development stream, avoiding to loose time on things outside of interest scope, and allowing to focus on specific subjects. So, in order for this workflow to be doable, the commit …

Hello, guys, may I ask you to fix the code below so that I can put my custom "sun6i.conf" file into "userpatches/sources/" ? Currently your code makes it impossible because LINUXFAMILY variable is forcibly set to "sunxi" in sunxi_common.inc file. What you can easily do is introducing a new variable so that one can know that LINUXFAMILY was overwritten. configuration.sh -------------------------------------------- [[ ! -f $SRC/config/sources/$LINUXFAMILY.conf ]] && \ exit_with_error "Sources configuration not found" "$LINUXFAMILY" source $SRC/config/sources/$LINUXFAMILY.conf if [[ -f $SRC/userpatches/s…

Armbian firmware is a repo holding all firmwares used by Armbian releases. files/firmwares in this repo are directly copied to /lib/firmware in release images. I don't know which firmware is used by which device, but some of them are put in wrong place. eg: for Broadcom Bluetooth firmwares, firmwares should be in brcm/ folder, but some of them are not in this folder. is there any plan to add firmware build support in build script or simplely put firmwares in right place.

Playing with BUILD_MINIMAL I had to several times run compilation script for the same board / system / branch. To speed up verification I thought: what is a point to constantly build u-boot / kernel? So I added CLEAN_LEVEL option to not delete generated debs. I have noted that from one hand I can disable cleaning of (for example) kernel deb files, but from other hand if there is repository update no new deb is produced. And the idea.... or is this already implemented somewhere? Build of u-boot / kernel is initiated when no deb file exists. fetch_from_repo function knows if the repository is updated. What is fetch_f…

S500 devices (LeMaker Guitar and RoseApple Pi) are the only devices without initrd/UUID support, both are EOS and have only 3.10.y EOL kernel source. I propose creating a tag in the build script and deleting their configuration files along with the code that deals with non-UUID root cases to simplify our code base for upcoming LUKS rootfs encryption support. Any thoughts/objections?

Hi, I'm not exactly sure where this type of thread goes. If it doesn't go here, can someone please politely move it? Thank you very much! There seems to be a rogue file in the "/etc/sysfs.d/" directory with the file "20-gpu-governor.conf" on my system. This file is meant to tune the GPU governor to "performance", instead of the default "simple_ondemand". But I'm confused as to which package supplies this. It is not supplied by sysfsutils, so maybe it's Armbian specific? Not sure. This file is on Armbian for the Helios64. Here are the contents of the file "/etc/sysfs.d/20-gpu-governor.conf": # Set "performance" GPU…

As far as I can tell, many, if not all, targets generate an identical postinst script for the linux-headers package by patching scripts/package/builddeb. A search of the Armbian build repo for "Compiling headers - please wait" produces 33 code results. This means that improving the postinst script (for example, as discussed here) requires updating 33 patch files. I'd be happy to help improve the situation, but I'm unsure how to proceed. Could we have a global postinst script for the linux-headers package, and somehow copy it into place? or must we use a patch file?

Hello, not sure if I'm at the right place here, so please let me know if I'm wrong and where I need to be. Thanks in advance and my apologies... My problem is that for some time now does Apt keep deleting custom kernels in /boot and the package appears to delete kernels not only with a rough pattern, but with "-f" as well, ignoring any file permissions. I've been watching this for a while now and it has left me at first with unbootable devices until I've noticed the cause. I would very much appreciate it of the Armbian kernel package wouldn't just delete anything that looks remotely like a kernel from /boot with a "rm -f *", but only removes the fi…

I followed the documentation and cloned the repo in the Host first, changed to config/templates and started the Vagrant virtual machine. If I am not mistaken, inside the Guest, the repo is cloned again for the actual development. This implies that cloning on the Host system has only the purpose to provide config/templates/Vagrantfile and config-vagrant.conf, is that right? All other cloned files on the HOST have no relevance (except for the directories userpatches and output, which are mounted)? I find that quite confusing and if I am right with my assumption, I would like to add a note to the documentation for future users. Or: Would it be possib…
