Hi, I have installed the latest image "Minimal/IOT images with Armbian Linux v6.12" with the mainline Kernel. Many thanks @ColorfulRhino , @amazingfate and many others for their hard work. I have a board with 32GB RAM and 4x NVMe and it is working with HDMI, USB and network. I have installed XFCE on top by my own. Some parts currently not working (what I have seen so far): * second HDMI * HDMI audio * sensor controlled fan speed This seems to be on the roadmap for 2025 for the upstream Kernel. For the fan control I currently use my own overlay and want to share it. /dts-v1/; /plugin/; / { /* ou…

  2. Hello, I'm new to Armbian and SoC/ARM devices but I've installed Armbian on the device before, however after tinkering around with RKDevTool and installing FriendlyELEC images on it through USB I'm now unable to boot from SD Card. I've done the "EraseAll" procedure under unbricking method https://wiki.friendlyelec.com/wiki/index.php/CM3588#Windows_Users however it didn't help. I've tried two SD Cards and I have no idea what else I can do. Unfortunately I wasn't able to find anything useful on google. The error is: "Gave up waiting for root file system device." "ALERT!     The armbian edge image for the FriendlyElec CM3588-NAS is currently on kernel 6.17 but has no HDMI audio despite it having been added in 6.15 (I think). This is simply because it has not been enabled in the device tree for this board. You can enable it with this user overlay: /dts-v1/; /plugin/; / { fragment@0 { target-path = "/hdmi0-sound"; __overlay__ { status = "okay"; }; }; fragment@1 { target-path = "/hdmi1-sound"; __overlay__ { status = "okay"; }; }; };

  5. Hello everyone, I have an OrangePi 4 that will serve as an interface for the electric car chargers that are produced in my company. We currently use Raspberry 3 and we want to upgrade to the OrangePi 4, mainly because it has eMMc. The problem is that the interface we have was designed to work on Raspberry. I put the SD card with the image in the OrangePi but it starts with the system that has been installed on eMMc (Armbian). Can you tell me if it will be very difficult for the image we use in Rpi to be possible to install on OrangePi? Another thing I want to do is move from the Armbian that I have currently installed on eMMc to Debian, h…

Currently on first boot I have to connect a network cable to the SBC and run armbian-config to configure the WiFi manually which is a bit of a drag when I'm updating 5 boards. Is this doable ?

To continue discussion from Helios64 Support Currently there is no plan to support to disable the power but it's interesting to know such use case. If we implemented this feature, you would need to go u-boot prompt to enable and disable the power. would this acceptable for you? Under Linux device tree, the power rail declared as regulator node with regulator-always-on property. This prevent kernel (and user) to turn off the regulator. Unless we are able to create device node for the SATA port, to act as consumer of the regulator, we can't remove the regulator-always-on property.

I have just put my Helios64 into operation. I have 5 HDD with 10TB each. Three HDD I mounted with ZFS (0.86) to a raidz1. the other two disks I mounted individually, formatting one disk with XFS and the last disk already had NTFS as filesystem. On this disk (NTFS) I have some very large *.vhdx files which I only use for copy tests. I use the console with the Mitnight Commander for this. The copying from the NTFS disk to the XFS disk reached a speed of about 130 MB/s. Copying from the XFS disk to the ZFS raid reached a speed of about 100 - 110 MB/s. I cannot do anything with these values alone. Can someone please tell me if these speeds fi…

  15. Hi, I'm currently facing strange problems... I'm using NanoPi and operate some USB devices with it. Since I wanted to know the total power consumption of the system, I measured current which flows into NanoPi from the outlet. The current during while the camera working was very nice (about 1A) so I shut the pi down. Then, I found that the total current value gradually rose up from about 1A to 1.5A. This seems to be so strange because when it gets shutdown, the power should be off as well, and the pi only needs small amount of power just to light the red LED. I tried a few times but the result was always same... …

Had anyone tested DAS mode performance with Capture One? Or could someone explain to me how it works? Also, would C1 show the DAS mode and NAS mode as seperate volumes or is it smart enough to show up as the same one? Background: Capture One doesn't work well with network drives. Editing images, moving raw files, even saving catalog backups is dramatically slower on a NAS than a DAS or internal drive. It doesn't matter how fast the drive or network is. Its a long standing bug they're always quick to say they aren't prioritizing fixing. I've looked at other NAS's that do a DAS mode by running a 10GBE connection over thunderbolt and that's a great solution in ev…

Hi. I've just bought a Rock Pi 4a board, I plan to use it as home server, running stuff like Owncloud, Postfix/Dovecot, Apache, pihole, OpenHab, Emby server etc. I'm thinking of running Armbian on it, but I have absolutely no experience of this dist (I've been managing Debian/Ubuntu servers for many years though). It's going to run headless. I'm wondering what would be the best way to set up disks from an Armbian point of view. My main reason for buying Rock Pi is for the M.2 port, I'm going to put my data on a M.2 disk. Booting from M.2 seems to be tricky though so I'm thinking about booting from micro SD card. I don't want to put any important data or a…

Overall it was a better experience than the experience on the Firefly station P2 competing with Station OS. Thanks…

I just purchased a 4GB Rock64. I've tried both the Ubuntu (Armbian Bionic Desktop 4.4.y) and Debian (Armbian Stretch Desktop 4.4.y) distros. I'm finding that the Debian distro is very sluggish compared to the Ubuntu distro. The desktop is sluggish in responding to mouse clicks and in Chromium, a basic web page takes about 3 seconds to display compared to about 1 second with Ubuntu. Is this the same performance difference that other people are finding with these distros on the Rock64? Is there some configuration tweak I need to make to improve Debian performance? Is there another distro that I should check out that would give me better performance?

  25. By pure accident, I discovered that Ctrl-Alt-F1 while the P2 is booting brings up more options on mine that allows the deletion of firmware and clearing of emmc. I have not done it but the menus are there.

  47. Like many others, I get constant reboots with my Helios. I'm not sure it's worth me posting logs as a number of people already seem to be doing that. My question is, does anyone have a stable system? If so what OS and kernel are you using? I don't care about latest and greatest features, I just want it to stop hard rebooting.

  48. Hello, i have trouble with my Helios64 (possibly bricked), so I am interested to by a new one. And if i can fix mine, the second one could allow me to participate to armbian support for it. Anyone have one for sale ? Preferably in Europe. Thank you.

  49. VPU hardware encode/decode appears to not work on the NanoPC-T4. I know it's a WIP. If there is a Post Installation Procedure I could do that would work for me.

  50. I want to directly create an armbian root file system called rootfs.img and then adapt it to the RK kernel configuration to run compilation scripts/ Build.sh updateimg directly generates image burning I don't know if this method is feasible

  53. Hey guys, I figured it was time to ask again... Does doing an `apt full-upgrade` from Buster to Bullseye break anything like before a year ago? I kind of want to do it, but not if the eMMC issues are still around. I really prefer not using the slower SD card method. And i also want to ask about stability for people that still use a Kobol with Armbian on Bullseye. Any pertinent issues with anything? A few people on here have claimed that they have gotten the vanilla Debian kernel to run on the Helios64, but I'm not sure how... Sure would be great if the vanilla Debian distro worked on this board, but I doubt that'll ever happen... I love…

  55. Hello, good morning from Spain. My sincere congratulations to the Kobol and Helios64 team. A really good and well designed product. I have a question about the compatibility of a hard drive with the Helios64 NAS. My hard drive is ---> https://www.senetic.es/product/0F38459 <--- ( Wd Ultrastar 18TB) With a capacity of 18TB, my question is: Is that hard drive (18TB) compatible with the Nas Helios64? I think that in the Nas Helios64 technical description, it only accepts a maximum capacity of 16 Tb hard drives Thank you very much for the information and help.

  56. I am downloading three different builds from 6.12 for orange pi 5. I have an orange pi 5 pro but since there is not dtb entry in 6.12 for that sbc in the Armbian 25.8.1 6.12.28 dtb file I used the orange pi 5b.dtb entry which works with the Armbian 25.8.1 6.1.115 images. The result is that the initramfs cant find a root disk - and when checking for drives in initramfs - there are none ls /dev/disks/by-uuid. So the initramfs file isn't running correctly as its not finding drives. I went back and loaded Armbian_24.8.1_Rock-5c-trixid_current_6.12.42_minimal.image and that boots up to root login. However if I change the card type to orangepi-5b. I cann…

  57. Hello I need to change a drive in the Helios64, and so I bought a new WD 2TB drive. Using a WD My Book 111D USB enclosure, I have partitioned, formatted and copied the data from the old drive. But when I change the drives to put the new one in the Helios64, the drive appears unformatted. See below. I can't understand what's happening, when I plug it back through USB everything is back to normal. Does the partitioning through USB differ somehow??? It appears as if the partition table "stays in the USB enclosure", which doesn't make sense for me. Is there something to try? Do I have to start again the process in the NAS enclosure? I…

I have a few Rock64's that I'm building as various services (Nextcloud, Pi-Hole, VPN, OMV, and/or Netatalk Backup). None of these devices will need large boot volumes as the data will be in secondary (Hard or SSD) Drives or will require VERY little data storage. On the RPi's that the Rock64's are replacing, I've been using USB Flash drives for booting. I get the feeling that an eMMC module is a better choice, but do have any real knowledge. Are the eMMC modules more reliable and less prone to corruption that USB Flash Drives? I do have some 32GB and 64…

  80. I suggest adding a small patch for all u-boot for rk33xx. It allows to enable direct booting from USB media and significantly facilitates the use of RK33xx models for users. Allows you to easily launch any system from USB without the need for complex settings and manipulations with existing (main) systems on devices on SD or eMMC. The entire path fits in two lines. https://github.com/150balbes/Build-Armbian/blob/master/patch/u-boot/u-boot-arm-64/u-boot-0010-rk-usb-start.patch#L18

Is there any way/plans to support the FrindlyArm RK3399 SOM in Armbian? Does anyone know the hardware well enough to know if another firmware could be loaded on it? It seems to be a very nice module, and the dev board has just about everything one might want on it. On a side note, possibly derailing my own topic, is there any plans to add any of the VPU patches for the RK3399 and associated software? It seems like support for that is getting pretty close, and it would be great if some of the patches that are floating around could get include in the official distro. I'm about to dive in an try getting at least accelerated ffmpeg working on my M4V2 and/or neo4, …

  97. Hello, I've got my Helios64 since a few week now and enjoying it a lot. I've installed k3s on it with various applications. The next step is to install home assistant to control my home. The problem is, when I connect the Arduino (acting as a serial input device) to my Helios64, the system does not startup anymore. The following error message is printed on the serial console: WARN halted endpoint, queueing URB anyway. Unexpected XHCI event TRB, skipping... (f5f5deb…
