the version number of zfsutils-linux was too low for the new version of zfs-dkms. So I downgraded zfs-dkms but the recent version of linux kernel was too high for the old version of zfs-dkms. I tried armbian-config to change the version of the kernel down to 6.6 from 6.12.18 but somehow it just repeatedly tried to build dkms modules for 6.12.18 again and again so I just gave up using armbian-config. I eventually replaced the linux kernel and headers with the older version 24.8.2 ( sudo apt install linux-image-current-meson64=24.8.2 linux-headers-current-meson64=24.8.2 linux-dtb-current-meson64=24.8.2 ) After these downgrades ZFS st…

Is anyone else running their build environment in a VM? Specifically hosted by QEMU? I'm running into some strange things, and wondering if anyone has seen it. I'm running an Ubuntu (20.04) in a VM using QEMU as the hypervisor. Basically, the build generally works fine. However, as I add more features/processes to the customization script, I am starting to see segmentation faults. I see this with sudo and when I try to git pull something. This is what I get: qemu: uncaught target signal 11 (Segmentation fault) - core dumped Segmentation fault (core dumped) I got here by dumping into a bash script from 'customize-image.sh', so it'…

I have a small group of Orangepi R2's that I'm setting up as remote snort monitors. It's my first experience with Armbian, and Orangepi and I'm very impressed. I have an odd issue that is puzzling, not of practical importance to what I'm doing, but annoying none the less. The set up I'm running is based on the main Armbian buster "Armbian_20.02.0-rc1_Orangepi-r1_buster_current_5.4.14. I am using 3 low light HD USB cameras (details on the link below) for my application. https://bluerobotics.com/store/sensors-sonars-cameras/cameras/cam-usb-low-light-r1/ The application requires me to have all 3 cameras live streaming simultaneously on 3 different local host ports of a PC. Hi, I have and Orange Pi PC board on which I'm trying to use Armbian from yestarday, "trying" because I have several different problems on which I investigated also on this forum, but I'm unable to solve at the moment (the reason because I'm writing here). Let's start from the beginning. I downloaded the armbian image from armbian website (https://www.armbian.com/orange-pi-pc/), version I'm using now is Armbian 20.08.1 Buster with Linux 5.8.5-sunxi, but I have tried also other versions with exact same behaviour. The first problem is time synchronization root@orangepipc:~# timedatectl Local time: Thu 2020-09-03 16:34:17 CE…

Anything involved with screen blanking /MUST/ be removed or disabled, on the bpim5, and it exists in so many places it took me 2 days of poking around to stop the no recovery except reboot if un-used for more than 15 minutes regardless of what it happens to be running at the time. When a blanker kicks in, the monitor powers down and the bpim5 goes inactive with only the red pwr led on steady, and nothing wakes it up except the reset button. These things use so little power that it doesn't bither me a bot to leave them running. I have an rpi4b running a big metal lathe that works as intended, with uptimes in years, this should be the same. It w…

Hi there, I have too many SBCs running Armbian with very recent kernels (even two Raspberry Pi 3B), and I love the consistency of my herd. I will change job next month, and I will at last be able to have a Linux machine as my daily driver... The thing is, I will need Windows too for video editing so that I need to keep it available when needed. I was thinking of Manjaro or Linux Mint for the freshness of their kernels (as the laptop hardware is pretty recent), but I gave a try yesterday at Armbian on x86_64, and it went almost well. I did not go as well as @NicoD's attempt in his latest video, but it is encouraging anyhow. So... Is there anything like…

I have an N2+ that I'm flashing Debian Buster onto an emm card. Have tried numerous times in several variations -- flash emm, boot system, log in via ssh, set up personal account, "apt update", "apt upgrade", reboot. After that I cannot log in via ssh anymore. I am using the system in headless mode and don't currently have a working serial connection (SiLabs hasn't updated their drivers to Big Sur yet) so I can't tell if the system is booting but ssh isn't working. Anyone know why "apt upgrade" would cause it to not boot or not present an ssh server properly?

Hi, I am using Armbian 5.90 on an BananaPi as a RTL-TCP server for an RTL-SDR stick which plugs in the USB port. Everything work fine since more than a year. Now since one of the latest updates, the RTL-TCP server doesn't work anymore 24/7. After a while, I can not connect to the server anymore. I studied the logs and it seems, that kernel/udev/upowerd powers off the USB-port where the RTL-SDR stick is plugged. The stick reinitializes, but the binding of the stick to the running server gets lost. There seems to be something new to the kernel/system which cyclically drops the USB connection to my stick. Any ideas, how to …

Hi there, Is there a way to make an automatic switch between AV and HDMI when HDMI connector is connected/disconnected? ie By default AV composite signal is ON, if HDMI is detected while booting, then video and sound are output to HDMI instead of AV/L/R output. I read that if both TV out and HDMI are enable at the same time it can result in artifacts on HDMI and for that reason TV was disabled by default. So is there a way to detect if HDMI is plugged in, and if so disable TV out. I would say it needs 2 .bin files with each config, but how to detect if HDMI is present before loading .bin and load the right .bin according to situation? …

Is there a way to get it running by using the auto builder? Using the stock image provided by the manufacturer works. Regards, Sombohan

Trouble setting up lvm2. vgcreate wrong because drive order is not now the plugin order on hub according to dmeg. interchanged cables vs ports for out of order discovery and rebooted but problem unchanged ack dmesg. So how do I blow away the volume_group that does not get made due to this error, so I can re vgcreate a new lvm? An hour later, I have tried, rearranging cable vs ports on the hub but the rusty drive stays at /dev/sdd# when it was /dev/sdf# b4 everything was partitioned. What the heck is going on? Hello, I am running a Cubietruck with Armbian 21.08 Buster. I wonder if this can be upgraded to 22.02. The usual apt update apt upgrade apt dist-upgrade does not install any new packages. However I see e.g. the deb files for the kernel are existing in http://mirrors.dotsrc.org/armbian-apt/pool/main/l/linux-5.15.25-sunxi/ and also http://mirrors.dotsrc.org/armbian-apt/dists/buster/main/binary-armhf/Packages contains the new packages. The kernel is NOT set to freeze in armbian-config. Also that tool does not offer the new 20.02 packages. I seem to overlook something here. What prevents the installation (my apt skill are obviously limited...). …

Hi guys, I am currently working on backing up my armbian installation. Following situation: boot: sd card file system: nfs root backing up the file system is not an issue, there I am using a rsync logic that transfers only changed files, which works great. The problem is with the boot files. In case of sd card failure I need an image that I can quickly restore to a new sd card, without the whole file system, as it is on nfs root and backed up differently. Now my question is: what is the best way to create an image file with only the boot logic? On Raspbian this is simple, as the boot device is a fat32 partition, but on …

Hi, I'm trying to enable the I2C at the U-BOOT stage, but so for with no success. I've started playing around with gpio, and thus far I don't have problems with any of the following: Access via the WiringOP C or Python bindings Access via /sys/class/gpio_sw However I can't seem to get the access via /sys/class/gpio to work. According to http://linux-sunxi.org/GPIOI need to write the pin number as defined in the fex file to /sys/class/gpio/export for 3.4 kernel (mainline kernel codes the pin number). For WiringOP pin #1 (physical pin #12 on the header), this is PD14, which is gpio_pin_5 according to the fex file, however the following does not light an LED connected to the pin: # echo "5" >/sys/class/gpio/export # echo "out" >/sys/class…

Thank you :-) OLD: I created an new board, based on the lime-a33.conf with BOOTCONFIG="q8_a33_tablet_1024x600_defconfig" and build a Debian Stretch Image with mainline Kernel 4.13 / 4.14. The SD Card is booting with a nice screen output but only to Kernel Boot, then the screen freezes. The Serial connection is only in the SD Adapter and I cant use it if I'm booting from it, or is there a possibility ?? I was checking devuan.org and this Image is booting the Tablet, with Kernel 4.1x. So I want to debug the Armbian Kernel wit…

I was using bananian for the last year(and I still do) on a M1 for a operational running webservice. Is it worth the time to switch to armbian? Are there any big differences? I want to switch the board sometime in the future; thats why I'm interested in the more flexible armbian in the first place. But right now I cant find a good alternative to the M1 for my use case.

I've already benchmarked a computer-interactivbe task (like image processing) on the Orangepi 5 plus's processor——and it wrapped up in just 40 minutes, which is impressively fast. Therefore, I' like to try the NPU. Anyone know how to tap into its NPU for AI workloads?

I saw references on the site to a countdown in days to a major new release, but that has now disappeared, and I also see various mentions of version 5.34 but I do not know where to obtain this. The highest release in github seems to be 5.24. How does one find this? Apologies if this appears to be a stupid question - I looked everywhere.

So I saw many thread with this question. Of course there are also good answers but I just don't understand. Out of the box HDMI works(hdmi2hdmi). Hdmi2dvi=doesn't work. Analog AV=doesn't work. I'm supposed to disable the hdmi and enable av-out by script.bin with something like [disp_init] My question is where is this file located? Am I suppose to vi create it? Hopefully someone could provide step by step or point me to the right direction with detailed information.

Don't get me wrong i use SAMBA because i have not played so much with NFS. I agree with you, i have my weekly battle VS. SAMBA when my NAS reboot, the remote shares do not stay in the same mounted folder after reboot. It is in (OMV). It could be you had some nice tips? It was because of that i asked ;-) I have read alot of articles about NFS. So only if you had the golden trick or something you use in the daily? Thanks.

Hello, I'm pretty new to configuring networks completely with /etc/network/interfaces and have my problems with understanding how to set up my ports adequately. What I want to do is: I want to run a DHCP-Server on all the LAN-Ports and want to use the wireless Connection as a Gateway (using NAT, no bridge). I found this to setup the Switchports as bridged.https://github.com/armbian/build/issues/511#issuecomment-262571252 But I don't know how to set the whole system up. I read lots of introduction but all people are using the WAN-Port as Gateway and setting the wireless as Access Point. That's not what I want to do. And I also was…

I want to install some stable and constantly developed distro for a headless server and I chose Armbian. So...without compiling it by myself (i want to gather more experience before build it myself), how can i get the latest version? I think I could do something like: 1) instal…

Hi guys, I have a BPI-M3, and wanted to roll my own build, given the current dissatisfaction with the builds provided by Sinovoip themselves. In any case, I have tested this locally, and it builds a bootable sd card, which works on UART only. It doesn't have working ethernet or WiFi, but at least you can interact with it over UART. Please feel free to review and comment on the script, and let me know if there are any issues running in your environment (ie, prerequisites that I have already, and make an invalid assumption that it is present). As per the comment inside the script, it will wipe the sdcard specified, and repartition with one partition whic…

I recently bought a used OrangePi 5, when it arrived it had a working Ubuntu image on an SD card. I decided to format the card and put my own image of Armbian on the card using the Armbian imager. when installed the card would no longer boot. lights on board but black screen no HDMI output. I tried putting the OrangePi os on one of my SD cards for kicks and it gets HDMI output but is just stuck on th…

Hi everyone, I just installed Armbian on my OrangePi 5, but I can't get it to recognize the NVMe drive. I've tried the official OrangePi Ubuntu distro, and it detects the NVMe without any issues. However, when using Armbian, it simply doesn't show up. I'm not sure what to do at this point. I would really like to use Armbian, but it seems unable to detect the NVMe on this particular device. Interestingly, I have another OrangePi 5 Pro where I installed Armbian, and it recognizes the NVMe and works perfectly fine — but not on the standard OrangePi 5. Does anyone know how to fix this issue, or can you recommend a good alternative? …

Hello, I am running Armbian on my Hummingboard i2eX, currently with Debian Buster on 4.9.7 kernel. For running some legacy HW (s0vz, counting impulses) I have to mux several GPIO pins to use them for input. Following http://www.solid-run.com/community/topic1571.html on 4.x kernel, I always was able to mux e.g. gpio-73 with devmem 0x020e0138 32 0x15 and then set the pin for input with: echo 73 > /sys/class/gpio/export echo "rising" > /sys/class/gpio/gpio73/edge Starting with 5.x kernel based Armbian images, I have 2 issues: muxing any IO pins with devmem seems no more possible and gpio72 is now reserved for Butto…

I'm trying to create a microSD card to boot Armbian, but first would be inserted into a Windows laptop to edit some configuration. To make the microSD show up in Windows, the first partition must be a FAT partition, and so Linux would be ext4 partion 2. I suspect I'll need to put the /boot partition on the FAT volume, with directions to load from mmcblk1p2. In case it matters, this is a Rock64 without emmc. I've just started this research, but I'd be grateful for any u-boot-savvy person's help here. Thanks.

Hi All, Does anybody have a solution to the issue with playing video in Armbian that the MPV on-screen controls (i.e. Pause, Stop and the Timeline) isn't visible in the bottom middle of the video frame? Is there any way to get this back? Does it require a re-compile of mpv, or is this behaviour a result of the All winner undocumented blob based hardware acceleration, dumping pixels straight onto the frame buffer, with little one can do about it. Has anybody compiled mpv from scratch and not had this issue? I notice that when playing video, the video paints over the top of everything - including the mouse pointer. Photo attached with red boxes to highlight…

Hello, I'm planning to replace my old (but very good) Banana PI (the first model, it should be called M1 if I remember). I basically use it as my personal cloud server, for some remote daily backups and for messing things up Now I'd like to replace it with something newer and maybe I'll use the Banana just for experimental purpose. I need to connect to my NanoPi M4 over the serial UART because I've made the eMMC unbootable, and I need to tell the board to boot from microSD so I can fix it. I've attempted to do this in both 'minicom' and 'screen' at 1500000 8N1 and the result is the same either way. I can see output from the NanoPi just fine, but when I attempt to send characters, it only displays a question mark imprinted on a square for each character, similar to what I'd expect if e.g. the character was not in my terminal font. Currently I have a Tinkerboard S and due to lack of USB WiFi support (Tinkerboard only has 2.4ghz, but 5ghz is necessary), I need another OS or SBC. Support for CSI camera is also required. I've installed Armbian on TinkerBoard and read a couple of threads on this forum. It looks like there is no CSI support for the Tinkerboard and there is no CSI camera support coming (couldn't get the camera to work on Armbian). The Rockchip on the Tinkerboard has the advantage of H264 encoding and very useful. There are other SBC boards with dual band and Rockchip (different Rockchip than the Tinkerboard), like the RockPi or the RockPro, but I can't really find out if the C…
