Before complaining about an issue read this! tl;dr: Put your Zero2 and/or any other H616 based device on the shelf and WAIT for proper support to come. And no. There is no ETA. Assuming usable state end 2021/beginning 2022. Software support is still work in progress and under heavy development. Provided preview images can break any time. Do not report this, we are aware of that and can/will not help you with that if you are not willing to investigate and research by yourself. Feel free to join fellow developers to their efforts to create proper software support. But don't waste our time with complains. Thank you! https://github.com…

We have initial support for Pine64/Pine64+ for a long time in our repository but not released any official images yet. Since this will change soon a sneak preview what to expect. Hardware related issues: Please don't blame Armbian for the few design flaws Pine64 and Pine64+ show: These boards use Micro USB for DC-IN which is the worst possible decision. Most USB cables have a resistance way too high and are responsible for severe voltage drops when consumption increases, then the tiny Micro USB contacts have also a pretty high contact resistance and also maximum amperage for this connector is limited to 1.8A by USB specs. So in case you want …

Hi, I have a couple of these boards which I have been using with Armbian and the old, 3.10 kernel. Ideally I would really like to go mainline as later kernels have some functionality that would be useful for my use of the board. The only remaining reason (apart from cpu freq.) for sticking to the 3.10 kernel has been the lack of MIPI DSI support in mainline, but now I see that, despite the Matrix at http://linux-sunxi.org/Linux_mainlining_effort still being red for A64 mipi, some work is being/has been done by Maxime Ripard. I'm just wondering if anyone here knows if a working mainline kernel with DSI for the Pine 64 is starting to look like a p…

Hello, I have a massive problem as the time/date on my Pine64 keep changing randomly to the year 2113. In my project, I use several Pine64s and the problem now occurs on many of these Pine64s. Unfortunately I need the correct time for my project. I am using the following system: ARMBIAN 5.32.170911 nightly Ubuntu 16.04.3 LTS 4.13.0-sun50iw1 (with additional overlays = uart3 and console = ttyS3) Could this be due to the error described in the post and is the bug fixed in kernel version 4.14? Could I install this kernel version 4.14 via armbian-config (next-kernel)? Thanks a lot for help.

Hi! Now that the camera interface has been merged in mainline Kernel, I would like to try to use the OrangePi OV5640 camera module on my OrangePi One. So with the latest Armbian Bionic (20.02.1, kernel 5.4.20), I have been trying to get a device tree overlay. From reading through the forums I cobbled together what I thought might work for getting spi nor to boot, but it fails: Activate the spi-jedec-nor overlay in /boot/armbianEnv.txt : overlays=spi-jedec-nor param_spinor_spi_bus=0 Then, after reboot, "cat /proc/mtd" should produce something like this : dev: size erasesize name mtd0: 00200000 00001000 "spi0.0" Here is where it fails - I just get the heading, with no mtd0: 00200000 00001000 "spi0.0". Should I be using a different param_spinor_spi_bus? I assume that once that works, the following will work? apt-get install mtd-utils cat /usr/lib/linux-u-boot-next-orangepiz…

Hello I've tried both Bookworm and Jammy (also older version). None boot up - nothing. The red LED starts blinking after after a few seconds. Yes the SD card is good, Yes the power supply is good (both work with the official images). Yes I've tried different SD card and power supplies. Is there an image/version someone can confirm was tested and works? thank you

Hi all, I hope someone can help me with an annoying but not pressing eMMC boot problem. Recently I bought myself a Pin64 H64 3GB SBC and an 32GB eMMC module (actually ordered a 16GB but got a 32GB :-) ) I have a Waveshare 7" TFT touchscreen attached. SBC and Screen are powered either a 5V/3A PSU or a batterypack. Now the board boots fine and fast! from a Samsung EVO sd card .. no problems there, but I cannot get the board to boot from the eMMC module. What I have done so far: 1) Flash an Armbian Buster image to the eMMC (using a USB_eMMC converter) with Etcher on Linux Mint... Boot the board from eMMC WITHOUT…

Hello. I see some progress in H616 (OPIZ2) support in mainline linux (now 6.2RC5 comes with USB) - https://linux-sunxi.org/Linux_mainlining_effort . I tried to setup/enable some other components and I am successful with upstream linux kernel 6.2RC5: - displayengine (drm, fb, mixer, tcon, hdmi) (seems to have some I2C/EDID problems) - videoengine (cedrus) (in testing now) - gpu (3d mali, panfrost) - dma, efuse, thermal ... but I am unsuccessful with - crypto (total different behavior in contrast to H616 manual) and untested - audio codecs and hdmi audio - opp power management (frequency + voltage) for CPU and GPU - SDIO wifi I was also succ…

The Linux kernel contained in the latest "linux-image-legacy-sunxi" (version 24.5.1) package appears to broken to the point of locking-up right from the start. It prints "Starting kernel ...", and no more messages appear even with "verbosity=7" set in the "armbianEnv.txt". The "linux-image-legacy-sunxi" version 24.2.1 boots just fine. Here are the steps to reproduce the problem. I've done this on "Orange Pi One" board, but exactly the same issue occurs on (community maintained) Banana Pi M1. 1. Download and write the Armbian image to a MicroSD card. 2. Connect the serial console, boot the board, finish setup, do all the upgrades: everything works fin…

As other people have noted, there are issues trying to connect the CB1 to wifi after the first boot. I believe I've narrowed down the cause, but I'm not sure about the right way to fix it permanently. The issue I was experiencing is as follows: 1. Flash latest armbian minimal to sd card 2. Plug into CB1 and turn it on 3. Go through first boot setup and connect to wifi normally 4. Reboot CB1 5. CB1 no longer connects to wifi, wpa_cli says 'CTRL_EVENT_SCAN_FAILED' A temporary solution I found is to mask systemd-networkd, then manually unmask systemd-networkd and start it after booting. This suggests that the problem is that systemd-net…

I've tried searching the forums for info on the Pine H64 Model B, but all the information is rather outdated, so I have some questions: Is this board supported by the images on the Pine H64 page which show a Model A board? (There was mention they work but without ethernet support.) Has ethernet support been fixed in the Pine H64 images for Model B? Are nightly builds still disabled for these boards?

Following up from another thread: I compiled an edge kernel (6.11.2-edge-sunxi64) for my Sovol SV08, in part because I'd like ftrace support (for perf sched). It comes up, except there is no /class/thermal/thermal_zone0/ (which Klipper demands to work, perhaps sensibly enough). dmesg says: [ 23.775976] platform 5070400.thermal-sensor: deferred probe pending: platform: wait for supplier It's a bit strange, since my understanding is that the full error message should be “wait for supplier XYZ”, i.e., some specific supplier. This was built with ./compile.sh kernel BOARD=bigtreetech-cb1 BRANCH=edge KERNEL_GIT=shallow and then a hack to us…

I am posting the following in the capacity of an errand boy ;) Anarsoul has done a lot of work on the A64 and has custom patches for the Pine A64, SOPine and the Pinebook that have not found their way into mainline yet (his git: https://github.com/anarsoul/). He only does Arch and has no knowledge of Debian/ Ubuntu. I recently asked on Twitter and PINE64 forum which OS users would like to see the Pinebook ship and many users reported Armbian. If anyone would be willing to help incorporate Anarsoul's work into Armbian so that we could have more features working on the aforementioned devices on mainline, then please have a chat with him in the linux-sunxi or pine6…

Hi, I have libretech all-h3-cc h2+ DIY board booting with armbian image from https://www.armbian.com/tritium-h3/. I have updated overlays in armbianEnv.txt file to add i2c2 overlay which enable CSI in kernel. But even after I connect the camera sensor module, I can't find any `/dev/video0` and morever there is not any log in dmesg as well. Please suggest how can I add get the camera work with the board. I referred to https://forum.armbian.com/topic/7502-ov5640-on-mainline-kernel/ but as according to that, `/dev/video0` should come up automatically. I don't know what I'm missing. Please help Thanks

Context: new Banana Pi M4 zero (rev 2) is using Wifi/BT over SDIO, which requires an sdio overlay. Thanks to Armbian team for providing it. Editing armbianEnv.txt to add "overlays=bananapi-m4-sdio-wifi-bt" did the trick for Wifi but BT is still not available (neither in standard or rolling builds)... @c0rnelius I know you tried to figure out why, I'm missing technical knowledge to help... Seems like the OS "malfunctions" after a few hours to a couple of days. The server is still responding to Pings, but services are all down, such as SSH. Doing a power cycle would make the system available back online, until it becomes non-responsive again. Moving back to 23.11.1 solves the stability issue. To add, I'm using a couple of instances for primary and secondary PiHole DNS servers. Probably similar issue on this thread - I'm a bit of a noob, if someone can redirect me to pasting logs. Can those be found on /var/logs as I haven't explored much. I have downgraded both my OPiOnes to 23.11.1 and Frozen the Armbian firmware updates, so I c…

Hi. I have a 2GB Pine64+ and have armbian on it. Yes, it's not new, but I noticed the problem only now. It's because my use - in short, I use these boards for hobbyistic low level programming - say an OS loader writing, so it's flash and test, never been looking into linux too deep - only needed utilities. staring at the top is not of that set. Now, when reached the DT parsing, passed by uboot, on this board, my loader, noticed 1GB of RAM... Basically, 1GB, as I see, is a default value set in the dts for pine64-plus yet. The DT is not updated on the fly by uboot, as it looks should be. and when I went to Linux, I saw the same - it sees it as 1GB! …

Hi, Board: BPI‑M4 Zero OS: Armbian (Bookworm), kernel 6.12.35 (current) This board has two USB‑C ports: one fixed HOST and one OTG. I’d like the OTG port (USB0) to operate as a host as well. Hi, I have a pine64 with the official touch screen, currently running Xenial with legacy kernel. I followed the instructions to enable the touchscreen: Also starting with 5.24 Pine64’s own LCD with touchscreen support can simply be activated in /boot/armbianEnv.txt by setting pine64_lcd=on and adding gt9xxf_ts to /etc/modules followed by a reboot. which works fine. Preferably, I'd like to use a later kernel, as I'm not interested in any graphical HW acceleration but would like some of the other improvements in later kernels. When I tried the instructions with kernel 4.9, I couldn't find the gt9xxf_ts module. Is there any way of making this…

Hi, Wasn't sure where to start this as it's at-least potentially and partially off-topic regarding Armbian. First of all, thanks for what appears to be the best distro for the small ARM-soc devices, including the PINE64. Is there a way to boot the Pine-A64 LTS with Armbian via eMMC? I can use the SD card to boot the armian-Sopine image, but the eMMC memory is not recognized. With the Ayufan image (jessie-minimal) on SD card (https://github.com/ayufan-pine64/linux-build/releases), I can at least recognize the eMMC memory and using sudo dd bs = 30M if = Image / jessie-minimal-sopine-0.7.19-118.img of =/dev/ mmcblk1 copy to the eMMC memory. Yesterday, I upgraded my Pine A64 LTS to the 5.10.21 kernel: The system rebooted just fine, though took longer then before. I didn't realize why until today, when I tried to access /media/mmcboot and discovered that it wasn't there. In fact, there is no /dev/mmcblk0p1 device at all. It's bizarre: it boots from the MicroSD, switches to my SSD, but then the MicroSD card device is simply gone when the system is up. I do not see this on two other Pine A64 (not LTS) systems. I was able to mount the microSD card on one of the other systems, and fsck reported everything was fine. I could also see all of the files just fine. The files …

I cut/paste a related information exchange I had w/ Kent from the gpiod mailing list. The arbian-monitor output is in the attached file. >>>>>>>> I wired a GPIO Pin to GND. I recently bought a couple of A64-LTS boards from the Pine Store, but I couldn't get the official Armbian images to boot on them. https://www.armbian.com/pine64/ I could, however, get Manjaro to boot on them, and when I created an SD card with U-Boot from the Manjaro SD card, and the partition from the Armbian (Bullseye CLI) image, it booted into Armbian. I noticed, though, that Manjaro distinguishes between the Pine A64(+) and the Pine A64-LTS. Tow-boot also makes the same distinction. So I wondered if maybe Armbian wasn't booting on my A64-LTS boards because it wasn't making that distinction, but it should be. (I also noticed that …

Hi. I have been running mainline on a Pine64 with mipi-dsi lcd Feiyang display since Focal release. Hi, Not sure if this is me being stupid or a general problem with the 4.10 kernel: As there are now Mainline 4.10.0-next-20170125 images available from the main Pine64 download page, I tried flashing a spare card to start working on the touchscreen. Neither of the Server images based in 4.10 will boot on my board (no Ethernet activity so I can't ssh in). I also tried updating a working 3.10.104 / 5.25 installation with the dev. 4.x kernel, using the guide: Finally tried with a cross compiled kernel, built using the developer guide: https://docs.armbian.com/Developer-Guide_Build-Preparation/ All with same result: Board apparently doesn't b…

A while back I tried the more recent kernels (non-legacy) and noticed these issues. Back then I didn't have the possibility to investigate further and I just ended up forcing the kernel back to old legacy kernel. This time around I have the time to actually troubleshoot more, so here we go. When I last updated everything, the kernel got updated from 6.1.104-legacy-sunxi64 to 6.6.75-legacy-sunxi64, the immediate thing I noticed was that the WLAN did get detected. There is a thread about missing wifi with a linked PR, but either that fix hasn't landed in the 6.6.x kernel or something else is wrong. The other issue is that the 6.6.x kernel seems to be…

Hello! I have three Libre Computer Tritium H5 boards and three eMMC modules on hands. All three eMMC modules is flashed with exactly same Armbian image and exactly same uboot. I also use exactly same PSU and cable for all three boards (however I reproduced this issue with four PSU and three microUSB cables, no difference in behavior was found). All three boards start just fine from microSD (so it's not exactly "Your board doesn't work?" case). One board never boot from eMMC on first power up, but almost always boot on second power up. That reproducible with all three eMMC modules. Two other boards just never boot from any eMMC module…

I read in the documentation for the mainline kernel that the upper USB port is configured as OTG by default. ("It’s possible to convert the upper USB port (normally an OTG port) into a full USB host port using an own PHY by setting some magic bits.") See also the post of thkaiser: https://forum.armbian.com/index.php?/topic/1917-armbian-running-on-pine64-and-other-a64h5-devices/&tab=comments#comment-15074 Because I can use the upper USB port, I assume the "magic bits" were configured. Hello, I've been having some issues with the official CB1 image on github provided by BTT. Namely, I'm having CAN issues with bytes_invalid increasing during printing operation which is exacerbated once I add more than 1 CAN device. One of the recommendations was to try a newer kernel so I'm trying to migrate to Armbian. I have called out the appropriate overlays (MCP2515)and verified that they are loaded in the armbianEnv.txt file. However, I am not able to load up a Can network. I have created a file in /etc/systemd/network/80-can.network containing the below info. [Match] Name=can* [CAN] BitRate=1000000 I also ran dtc …

Looking at the new BPI M4 zero to replace a RPI zero. The official build listed does not have gpio turned or maybe just not built into the kernel. If I download the image from the BPI website it has it but it based on bullseye and the image is broke. I built my own image but still no go so I am not sure what is wrong. I have built images for other boards and projects with success so that's not the problem. I have a 3.5" TFT touch screen and some relays that I need to run along with a sensor.

If you look at our download page of Pine64 you can see that since then we have collected a lot of information of which some of it maybe obsolete/outdated/resolved: https://www.armbian.com/pine64/ Now, if you are a lucky owner of such a SBC you have THE CHANCE to help the armbian project. Will you please download the latest Xenial legacy kernel 3.10.y and verifiy if some of the problems listed on the website are already solved in the current release? And if so, please re…

Hello, I found this guide: https://github.com/robertojguerra/orangepi-zero-full-setup/blob/main/README2.md I followed the steps and built an Armbian image with current 6.12 kernel and now TV OUT (CVBS, Composite Video), after soldering a cable to the video pin on the board, is working on my Orange Pi One with an Allwinner H3 CPU (the patches might work for other H3/H2+ boards). I would like to get that functionality incorporated into Armbian.

Using legacy Xenial image on pine64, I found that VPN server could not be executed due to the lack of PPP and IPSEC kernel options and probably other modules. Could be enabled on future releases ? Best regards, Gustavo.

Hello everyone, I'm trying to get an ST7735S LCD display working with my Orange Pi Zero 2 (H616). This setup was working correctly with older Armbian kernels, but after a recent update, I can no longer get the SPI device to appear. I have already tried a couple of different configuration methods without success. System Information: Board: Orange Pi Zero 2 (H616) Display: ST7735S (SPI) Kernel Version: Linux orangepizero2 6.12.43-current-sunxi64 #2 SMP Wed Aug 20 16:30:58 UTC 2025 aarch64 GNU/Linux I have recently updated armbian-config by running the update from the script itself. Attempt 1: Using armbianEnv.txt …

Hello, This is my first attempt to install Armbian on a Pine64 + that I bought 2 weeks ago. I created one from the source, but as the battery management failed, I tried it with a constructed image (Armbian_5.69_Pine64_Debian_stretch_next_4.19.13.img), but it's still the same: everything works fine, except battery management. The state of battery and energy should appear as files in the /sys/class/power/directory, but this directory is not created. I can see this directory and the battery information in other images (like the version of the 3.1 kernel of Ayufan). What I have seen is a strange error (for me) in dmesg, related to the power management modules (axp..…

Currently using Armbian as a PiHole DNS server, it seems that after a few days the server just shuts itself down (Armbian 25.5.1 Noble 6.12). Not sure if it is a hardware related issue, I'll do some more tests and revert back to 25.2.2 Bookworm for now and see if the issue is replicated. Please note that my primary Armbian PiHole DNS does not encounter the same issue, though the version of it is Noble v25.2.3 / 6.12.30.

Good afternoon. I have great respect for your work (I signed up for an Individual subscription and made a small contribution to Funding equipment in April 2023) Question about Bananapi M4 Zero board The board is assigned the status "Standard Support", but there are no links to a stable image (for example Armbian 24.2.1 Bookworm CLI). There are only links to daily/rolling releases. I understand how much time and effort goes into maintaining a large number of boards. Tell me, can we hope for the appearance of stable firmware versions for Bananapi M4 Zero?

Hello, I'm using an pine64 with the old mainline Ubuntu server (version 5.32.170911, kernel 4.13) for my project. Thanks for the great work for the Pine64-Armbian! I would like to change to a new image LTS kernel 4.14, because the existing kernel version is no longer supported. Unfortunately I only find the Debian Stretch version on the mainline kernel download server. Is it possible to get a new image with Mainline kernel 4.14 and Ubuntu server? and if not: - If there is no image with 4.14 Ubuntu server, can I change from legacy ubuntu to kernel 4.14? By the way, why ist the mainline-version using debian stretch, but legacy …

There are a number of people working on getting the orangepi zero3 to work with Armbian. The zero3 is almost identical to the zero2 which is a supported board. The differences between the two have been taken into account by upstream Linux and u-boot changes in at least Linux-6.6 to the point where it is possible to build a working zero3 Armbian image. Everything else in theory should be identical between the two boards. Any changes should apply to both zero2 and 3. My question is, what capabilities are supported by Armbian on the zero2. What is working and tested? - wifi -Bluetooth -HDMI -sound -gpio -i2c, spi It would be helpful t…

Hi, I have a Sovol SV08 printer, which is based on BTT CB1 (to the point of basing its software on the CB1 image). I've upgraded it to bookworm, and then installed the latest current Armbian kernel (I eventually would want to go entirely upstream Linux, but I believe that this isn't feasible yet); linux-image-current-sunxi64 24.8.4 (6.6.44-current-sunxi64). Everything largely works and I can print etc.; however, the wired Ethernet refuses to come up. It just repeats this over and over again: [15101.594239] sunxi-gmac 5030000.ethernet end0: No PHY found! [15101.602516] sunxi-gmac 5030000.ethernet end0: phy init failed [15103.394666] sunxi-gmac 50300…

There was a huge thread a year ago about enabling SPI on Pine64, but it seemed to sometimes apply to longsleep generated kernel vs what I would think would be an out-of-the box build for Pine64 using the Armbian configuration. It wasn't clear to me exactly what needed to be done with today's build configuration, if anything. My ultimate goal is to integrate the IndustrialBerry ENC28J60 dual ethernet port card with Pine64. http://www.industrialberry.com/ethernetberry-v-1-1/ They have a recipe for RaspPi. I'm hoping there might be a similar type of recipe geared to the Pine64. Using the Armbian configurator, I insured the SPI bits were enabled (…
