Hey everyone I've compiled my own kernel using this awesome tool, and I'm now running it on a tinker board. Everything's been working fine, except for one annoying thing I just ran into: I can't use the GPIO pins. When I try to use a pin in python I just get this message back: "RuntimeError: This gpio is set to other function!". If I run Debian I can use the gpio just fine, but I need some kernel modules that doesn't ship with Debian. That's why I've compiled my own armbian kernel. Anyways, any idea on how to fix this? Any special module I should add when compiling the kernel? Thanks Marius

Hey! I recently got a CAN-bus up and running on a Tinkerboard running Armbian, but I've run into another problem here: The CAN-bus buffer fills up. After sending a few messages I get an error saying "No buffer space available". I've noticed that some other people are solving this by increasing the buffer size, but that seems like a weird solution to me. And it wouldn't really help me much. I need to empty this buffer when I read from it, or manually (without restarting the CAN-bus). Any ideas on how to do that? Thanks

Hello all, i have a pressing problem requiring urgent help. I am currently conducting my thesis with the Tinker Board and i have the Armbian Ubuntu desktop with the legacy kernel running. I noticed when i try to boot the system, it takes approximately 25 minutes to show the Login request in the CLI and after that, it creates the user account but instead of proceeding to the regular desktop page, it gets stock there and does not proceed. I will please like to know if anyone has an idea of how to solve this issue as i urgently need it to get running fast to run the tests needed for my thesis. Thanks.

Hi every body, I am a new user of Armbian and Linux based system. I wanted to use the Tinkerboard because of his 4K video processor (I am programming a special video application) I install Armbian following the steps of the site. Everything went good, the system is runing. I made all update an so on. Then I wanted to test a video (MP4 1920x1080) capability with the build in player, and the video is playing very slow. I try too a Youtube video, same thing... Meanwhile I installed a TinkerIOS linaro and TinkerOS android, video are playing at the good speed... So my questions are: 1) do we need a special video driver on Armbian for the ti…

Is it possible to load the A72 cortex with more computation work compared to A53 cortex? Specially during multithreading can i generate more cores on A72 cortex as it is significantly faster? While compiling there is a flag to select the appropriate cortex (-mtune=cortex-a72.cortex-a53) but it only generates appropriate cortex code. Any way to control these cortex based on the application?

Hey, I’m running armbian on a tinkerboard and I need to connect to a CAN-bus. Apparently the usual Linux CAN-kernel-modules aren’t shipped with armbian, so I guess I’ll have to add them manually somehow. I`ve been trying to do that for two days now without any luck. I’ve been trying to follow the steps described in other forums, but it haven’t helped. I really just want to add the necessary modules to my existing kernel. Any ideas?

Hello everyone, I've begun working to target the Armbian Legacy Tinker Board build to the Rockchip kernel. There are a list of reasons why it needs done, including some relatively large differences between the current kernel's code base and the Rockchip kernel (making it hard to patch with bugfixes/etc) and inactivity on the part of the vendor of that kernel. There are also reasons I am preferring to use the Rockchip kernel rather than the ASUS kernel. First and formost is the need to also support the MiQi. The miniarm branch of Rockchip and the ASUS kernel have board-specific fixes written in such a way as to not be friendly to other boards. I've dec…

Greetings, I recently had a request about testing the I2S and SPDIF output of MiQi devices and after some fiddling on this board, it seems that the Rockchip I2S + Simple-Audio ALSA driver just output nothing on the I2S TX/RX pins, at least. So was anyone able to output sound directly through the I2S GPIO pins on any RK3288 device ? Tinkerboard devices seems to use that setup and it seems to be working, but I'd like to know if that's working through the soldered Jack or the GPIO.

So my boss deploys a plethora of Asus TInkerboards to assist with production. We are currently using an OS image provided to us by this website---specifically, Ubuntu_xenial_next_desktop.7z. On some occasions, with kick ass access points, the tinkers will disconnect from the wireless network that we are using. We are also using an antennae attachment which seems to help a bit with connection issues. Without providing too much specific info, is there an updated driver being worked on somewhere that I could be pointed towards? Any info/words of wisdom would be very helpful! Thank you! Best regards and thanks in advance! Joey

Is there an official way of installing libmali drivers on Armbian? I'm feeling a bit slow, since I can't really figure out how to install them. It seems like files from this github repo will overwrite other system files, so it's not a solution that would work in the long term.

I am considering to buy a RK3399 dev board and use USB 3.0 peripheral mode to transfer data to/from another host PC. It may be used as USB CDC/Eth or RNDIS device, or a MTP device. We hope the transfer rate could be well over 1Gbps, the higher, the better. So has anybody ever benchmarked RK3399 USB in peripheral mode? Such as the highest iperf transfer rate in CDC/Eth or RNDIS mode?

Hi I was struggling to find the right package for my Tinkerboard. I needed a reasonably powerful 24x7 appliance that could provide torrent downloading, wifi hotspot, a shared network drive and a LMS box. After trying out the Asus effort and DietPi - both with severe issues) I landed on Armbian and it seems to have everything going for it but the LMS install just does not work. I am a Linux newbie, I know my way around Windows and a GUI, and used the instructions here and a few other places to successfully set up the hotspot and the sharing and automounting of large USB drives. It took me the better part of 6 hours just to figure all of that out (j…

I still have a problem configuring the wifi hotspot on the armbian distribution for tinkerboard. The hotspot is clearly unstable. So none of my computers can't connect to it and my phones and tablets have a unstable connection. I thought having found a turnover using a call to iw with a frequency of 1s. This was reactivating the wifi for some times (that should simulate a continuous connection) but it looks that it doesn't work anymore. So I am stuck with that, I am unable to configure a stable hotspot. Is there something to do with the rtl8723 driver, or have I no hope to make it works ?

Hi, has any of you some experience connecting a Hifiberry Amp+ to a Tinkerboard - on Hifiberry pages this is now a possible connecting but I miss a howto and would really appreciate a quick start on this. Have previously succeed with Raspberry 3 and IQaudio - but intend to take a step further and do a project being more than just an amplifier. After testing several OS I have to admit Armbian has become my favorite and it is within this OS I hope to achieve this.

Hi. I need hardware OpenGL ES, at least 2.0. I’ve tried this https://github.com/rockchip-linux/libmali It works OK on latest Asus OS 2.0.1, but for Armbian 5.33 kernel 4.4.88 it doesn’t: ERROR: The DDK is not compatible with any of the Mali GPUs on the system. The DDK was built for 0x750 r0p0 status range [1..1], but none of the GPUs matched: Segmentation fault I don’t have much experience with Linux, but IMO it might mean the kernel + userland parts of the GPU driver are incompatible. Is there a working GPU driver for Mali-T76x on Armbian? Thanks in advance! Regards, Kosta.

Hello! I've been using Armbian on my newly bought Tinker Board for less than two weeks now and I've to say that the work you guys have put into this is incredible! It would be nice to be able to use hardware crypto for VPNs. The rockchip's hardware crypto acceleration has apparently been supported since Kernel 4.5. I noticed that the CONFIG_CRYPTO_DEV_ROCKCHIP option hadn't been compiled into the standard Armbian builds, so I built a custom kernel. Having the rk_crypto module loaded gives me additional ciphers in /proc/crypto as expected. Without the module loaded (either blacklisted with my build, or with the normal Armbian kernel), my tunnel (IKEv2/IPSEC w Strongswan) works fine. But with the module installed, no traffic passes. Sometimes I see kernel errors in syslog. A couple of tim…

So, if you use the mainline DTSI files, you'll encounter an issue when loading the Mali Midgard GPL kernel module, since the main ARM kernel maintainers changed how the "compatible" properties of Midgard GPU nodes should be defined. Don't ask me why, they created an entire documentation stating that now the Mali Midgard GPU nodes have to harbour the chip series number, a vendor-specific statement, and drop the "arm,mali-midgard" property. The additions are nice, since they allow a quick detection of the chip number and the chip vendor using /sys nodes names. However, turns out that the Mali kernel driver used the dropped property to detect the GPU. So, I've …

Hi, On the download page of Tinker board "Ethernet driver needs some fixing" is listed as known issue. Are there any details about? What is the problem with the ethernet? Who should fix it? (Asus, armbian) Are there any plans for fixing it? I'm asking it, because I would like to use my tinker board as a headless 24/7 home cloud. Thank you!

Trying to set Wireguard (www.wireguard.io). Just got my new tinkerboard powered up with armbian. For some reason I could not get anything after build 1.3 off the Asus site to boot! Anway, first impressions good, however in the graphics settings it seems to max out at 1920 x 1080 whilst on paper the tinkerboard is supposed to support 4k. I'll admit I am new to linux so perhaps i'm missing something ovbious, but if someone could explain how I can up the resolution to 3,840 x 2,160 that would be great. For the avoidance of doubt I have it connected to an Acer 27" 4k monitor.

Update May-21-2018: script may have negative impact on HDMI audio, needs further investigation. Patches pushed to enable I2S HDMI device, but audio does not come out. Update Feb-20-2018: script update committed for out of the box audio support (both outputs and inputs) for ASUS Tinker Board. Available sinks: BT-VOIP SPDIF Headset (the jack) Available sources: BT-VOIP Headset-input (the jack) Tinkerboard sound is possible with Armbian, however I have not worked to get it set up "out of the box" because of a major bug in the sound itself, namely that it outputs pure high pitched garbage from certain ap…

Alright, the biggest issue with the ASUS Tinkerboard being "resolved", I'm starting to take care of the VPU driver, in order to use it with mainline kernels. The hardware video encoding/decoding facilities are the real meat of the RK3288, and recent Rockchip boards. The VPU driver aims to use these facilities in order to provide the smooth video playback experience that every Netflix/Hulu addict expects when buying such boards. Which mean, once this part dealt with, you might be able to enjoy your Multimedia oriented distributions/softwares on your Rockchip boards (MiQi, Tinkerboard and maybe Pine64 too !) So the driver is already …

What is the process to get python3 talking to the GPIO pins? I have installed the ASUS-GPIO package but it is not working. Under the tinker debian release, this h/w was working correctly, so I know this is some kind of s/w issue. Thanks!

Hi all, looking for a bit of advise. I had an idea recently in that I have a problem of syncing a 20Tb USB 3.0 RAID0 drive with a 20Tb NAS. I have two fully duplicated RAID0 drives with no protection, so whenever I upgrade the capacity of a drive, I do a full sync. I do this maybe once a year. Whenever I have to do a full sync however it usually ties my MacBook up for a few weeks to transfer that much data over, so I had the idea recently of having a maker board do it since Linux/Armbian supports HFS+, I can just do an rsync between the two. I opted to purchase a Tinkerboard for the GigE Ethernet (I'll live with the USB 2.0), installed, up and running all…

I've installed the Armbian distro for Tinker Board, updated it, fiddles with PulseAudio settings, added Codecs but for the life of me I can't get any audio from the headphone jack. Hopefully someone can suggest a solution. TIA.

Hi out there! F.Y.I. I've tried a lot of things to customize the kernel for Tinker Board on 32-bits host platform, but finally I gave it up. Instead other messy things, I followed the armbian instructions exactly, and successfully created an Armbian_5.32_Tinkerboard_Debian_jessie_default_4.4.76.img using the comile script on the recommended Ubuntu host. Unfortunately the resulted image does not boot: root@eepc:~# ttysh /dev/ttyUSB0 -s 115200 U-Boot SPL 2017.07-armbian (Jul 18 2017 - 17:40:48) Returning to boot ROM... *Updated 7-23* ~~All kernels should be fixed at this point, Legacy, Next, and Dev.~~ The ASUS Tinker Board has a big problem with rebooting properly, centered around the SD card power supplies. Upon issuing a shutdown request, the kernel is turning everything off , including the vmmc regulator. To make matters worse, vqmmc is set to 1.8 Volts if you use a UHS SD card, and the kernel is not switching it back to 3.3 volts before rebooting, which is required if the Rockchip boot ROM is to communicate with the device. The result is a hung board in MaskROM mode. For the Default kernel (4.4), a patch was carried over from the vendor softwa…

Update May-15-2018: pushed today, Bluetooth patches to support bt in default and next kernels from boot, no user intervention ( "It just works" ). Thank you again to @Myy and @Jyu Ho for their work. Spoiler Trying to get the Bluetooth working, I've had a few different issues, I've labelled them per kernel: Default: Running "hci_attach" locks up the board after config and loading firmware. UPDATE June-25-2017: Disabling DMA on uart0 resolved the issue as theorized below. UPDATE Feb-22-2018: Services added loading Bluetooth automatically on boot, takes reboot after fi…

Hi There are some guides on how to install Kubernetes on a Raspberry Pi cluster. I am trying to build such a cluster with Asus Tinker Boards as I think that these would make an even more powerful demo system. Unfortunately there are no guides for running Kubernetes on Tinker Boards. I am using Armbian Ubuntu Xenial mainline image which is running very stable. uname -a Linux tinkerboard 4.11.0-rockchip #19 SMP PREEMPT Thu May 4 16:08:16 CEST 2017 armv7l armv7l armv7l GNU/Linux When initializing the cluster with "kubeadm init" it runs into the following fatal error during preflight checks of the system: [preflight] Some fatal errors…

I confess, I have no idea what to do with the contents of this repository. Any help would be great, as I've said before, my Linux experience is lacking on things, the work I do is usually in hardware with kiB of RAM... I'm working on the assumption that this would be the best lib to install, if I'm wrong, let me know. https://github.com/rockchip-linux/libmali

Hi, I am looking for owners of RK3288 who can help to find missing information in the system. A lot already works from the template. Vcore has been added thanks to @TonyMac32 , but some important information like RAM frequency (dynamic.5.name=dram_frequency) is still missing. This is my adjusted version, but to do some more HW testing we need as much information about the board as possible. Hello Forum, i just got my new tinker board running with armbian, thanks for the good work ! I want to set up a vdr vnsi server on this to replace the existing Raspberry 2. To get the DVB USB Skystar Tuners running several modules out of kernel/drivers/media like dvb-core and usb are needed. Are this kernel drivers already compiled available or what to do to get them ? Thanks Thomas
