  1. Yes - I'm here flailing about for clues (like person who can't swim in deep end of pool :-) ). I know, this is more of an Orange Pi/ I2C_sunxi thing, but OPI and Armbian go together, so... I have an oscilloscope that shows I2C-0 putting out clock bits with my LDC1314's '2A' address data just fine - up to the ninth clock. On the ninth clock - which follows clocks for bits 6,5,4,3,2,1,0,R/W - and should be where the slave responds with the ACK/NACK bit, the SDA line goes to 1/2Vcc - like the master is fighting the slave. It's like the device is trying its best to pull it low for an ACK, but the Master (OPI pin PA12) is not letting go. I have a pictur…

  4. Hi there, I am currently trying to have a solution based on Hx SoCs to encode raw 1080p video on the fly (at smaller resolutions). For the time being, I have: OrangePi Zero 1.4 OrangePi Zero 1.5 OrangePi One OrangePi PC (waiting for it) OrangePi OnePlus The Zero has a heating problem, for sure, the One seems to be better at handling the load. As for the OnePlus and PC, I haven't tried them yet. What I would like to find is a board with eMMC (so that I don't have to change the SDCard regularly), with a good heatsink. I just need an RJ45 plug, power, and I'm good to go. I don't need CSI, video output or anything el…

  5. I have a need for a low-cost machine for my daughter. I could buy a Raspberry pi and run Ubuntu on it, but I have a few Amlogic boards at hand, and for the most part they work perfectly with Armbian (OK I know they are not a supported board, and I don't run an official build). My concern, though, is that lack of hardware support (audio, video decoding) which makes low-profile hardware quite sluggish to use in the daily life. My point is that I am tired of seeing perfectly usable (in theory) electronic products to to landfill (and create an environmental disaster) just because software is falling short. Not even software in fact, bu…

  6. Does anybody have a solution how to charge battery with more conservative voltage range? I'm using battery backup for my CubieTruck boards to survive power outages for several years. And as one of the batteries recently blew up (and also killed the backup HDD next to it) I try to find a way to charge the battery in a range that preserves health of it. When searching for a long-term-save voltage range of LiPo batteries you get something like: use only half of capacity, much below 4V, never deep charge, ... Default setting for the AXP209 charge controller is to charge to 4,2V, and emergency shutdown is at 2,9V. These ranges are much too broad and may damage…

Hi there, I bought a few months ago a H616 based TV Box, and made the same kind of mistakes this week. I bought an OrangePi Zero2, also sporting a H616. I bought the TVBox because at that time: "wow, an undocumented AllWinnner SoC!", how stupid is that? I bought the Zero2 because CNX software gave a few hints about the SoC features, like the fact the G31 GPU is a Bitfrost GPU, meaning it supports Vulkan, and down the line, it could potentially be supported by Panfrost open-source graphics driver. I'm still dreaming of an Armbian based video encoding SBC, and this SoC (like so many others on the paper) looks promising: Video D…

  19. For this question the assumption is that a board actually has a maintainer and I think the answer given will be useful for anyone else with the same or similar question. May end up being a candidate for some FAQ list. Question is.... If a board has a maintainer and the user builds the image themselves using the recommended default kernel/compilation option, why is there no support for the built image? Rationale behind the question is if the user decides to change the kernel build options then there would bo no doubt that the user will be on their own with no support, but if the kernel is built with the default hard built options then there ha…

Just a tip for something that has helped me from getting a heart-attack over the many years of online discourse.... Back in the day (ugh-really?) there were only TWO rules for participation in the store-and-forward Fidonet system: 1) Thou shalt not excessively annoy others. 2) Thou shalt not be too easily annoyed. Breaking *either* rule, got you kicked out. Strangely enough, rule #2 was broken more often than #1. And it helps you grow a skin, no matter what is said. Most importantly, it keeps you hacking, and not getting a heart-attack. For Devs, maybe the OpenBSD philosophy can cut through some of the angst: …

What I would like to ask before I go down the rabbit hole is, based only on the specs below, if it looks possible? Would it be a good candidate for armbian or would there be too much non-cpu bits that surely won't work. If you folks thinks it's a capable box then I will put on my boots and get into it. I've mounted the SD Card on another Linux OS and can see/mount all my partitions, I have them mounted but none of the /boot directories are what is typically there when armbian is booted. I'm assuming u-boot is an image and /boot gets dynamically created. Done some searching but not making much sense of what I'm seeing. How/Where do I find the /boot/armbianENV.txt file with the SD Card mounted to another machine? Thanks in advance.

Hi, from armbian-config I can install several programs, e.g. softether VPN Server. The version installed is rather old now (nevertheless it is still working). Is there an update for the armbian-config installable software or do I have to update it myself (in case of softether: download & compile, not via apt-get)? Thanks for any help! Steve

Greetings, I have scoured every source I could find, but could only find images that hinted at it. I need 1) to know the pinout of the 4-pin debug usart port on the NanoPC T4, and possibly 2) to find a good alternative to PuTTY that can handle the high(?) bit-rate I see in dmesg output (under Armbian debian Stretch). I've tried those implied by the images, and though my Windows 7 PC sees a new COM port (and the driver installed clean) for my new DTECH USB to TTL Serial 3.3V Adapter Cable (TX RX Signal with 4 Pin 0.1 inch Pitch Female Socket PL2303 Prolific Chip for Windows 10 8 7 XP Vista (6ft, Black)), I'm unable to access it v…

Why dont you provide support to the Banana pi single boards ? Many of them very interesting. Support is also very weak and short. I know that the last 2 boards from bananpi were based on mediatek and realtek CPU. ( R2 W2 ) They was specialized single boards as router and storage NAS board. why not to try?

  63. I run Armbian on a SanDisk 64GB micro SD card -- using it on Asus TB. Most of the SD card is free space and while I want to keep Armbian as is for the TB, I want to create a multi-OS folder for music and photos. I.e. to use on Android phone, Win PC, Linux Mint computer, etc. Are there any Armbian drawbacks to creating/having such a folder? If not, should I use Armbian to create the empty folder (henceforth, it will be filled with files from multiple devices)? Is there a "best" location to create this generic folder within the Ambian OS card--i.e., as a sub-folder of a default Armbian directory?

I've seen TKaiser make reference to different SOC's as good, bad, etc. and was wondering if there is any info available on the forum about the different SOC's. The good, the bad, the ugly, etc. would be really good. I've gotten several boards, but later I found the armbian site, and the forum where I've seen bad comments about different SOC's. I might be looking for a new board to play with in the future, and knowing which SOC is good, or bad would be really nice to know before starting the research on the next pi like device.

  74. I have an ASUS Tinkerboard and I have been using Armbian 18.04, but I would like to know if there is a way to install the Ubuntu-Mate desktop? I tried the following after a fresh install of Armbian 18.04 and before I did anything else. I did not install any desktop from armbian-config. sudo apt update sudo apt install tasksel sudo apt install ubunutu-mate-desktop And while this looked promising and went through the motions (and it took forever), in the end it did not work. I only had the command prompt. Again I did not run anything from armbian-config yet. Thoughts on how to make this work? I assume it is possible. Thanks.

Please comment if you think there will be a market for such a device? Which price should it have? Should a crowd funding get started, do you know companies willing to join a double up crowd funding? Runs on any CPU type, but has optimizations for ARM+X64. I wrote 100% of the code, so it might be behave differently than other game emulators. GB+GG are nearly perfect. NES is missing some popular mappers. The code is very optimized to begin with, but also uses a dirty-tile system to minimize the data sent to the SPI bus. This allows inexpensive SPI displays (e.g. ili9341) to run at or near 60 frames per second for many games even though the SPI bus can only do 30FPS of full screen updates. https://github.com/bitbank2/sg_fre…

The job is currently being done by an OrangePi PC (H3, 1Gb), and is mostly about generating static web sites, which means rendering static HTML/json/js files and uploading them via SCP to a cheap shared hosting provider (the orange pi does not do the actual hosting).
