Hello friends, Has anyone here successfully activated the I2S pins for connecting a DAC? According to the official documentation, the PCM functionality should be available on physical pins 12 (GPIO4_A6), 35 (GPIO3_C2), 38 (GPIO3_C0), and 40 (GPIO3_B7) of the GPIO header. I've tried many options - in the DTS overlay I've enabled various I2S variants starting from "i2s0_8ch" up to "i2s9_8ch", including different "pinctrl" m[0-1] variants like "i2s1m0" or "i2s1m1", and alternatively "i2s2m0" or "i2s2m1", but I've never managed to get ALT3 mode on the mentioned pins (I assume I2S function = ALT3 mode). In certain combinations, I can at leas…

Hi All! I've recently moved to Armbian (Debian buster server) on my Rock Pi 4B - from Ubuntu provided by Radxa (some way failed upgrade). However system is booting from eMMC which has Radxa kernel and then directly to Armbian file system on SSD connected via USB 3.0. Great is that Armbian is working with Radxa kernel, which I want to change to 5.8.14-rockchip64. My question is how should I prepare /boot folder on eMMC (which is FAT file system) to boot Armbian kernel? Is there any other way (reformat eMMC for ext4@32768 sector for /boot folder) to achieve this? Thanks.

Hi folks, I have a Firefly AIO-3399C which boots Armbian fine, but no USB devices besides the root devices are detected. This happens with both the kernel 5.19.170 and 6.0.7 based images, made by @balbes150, which I've downloaded from https://users.armbian.com/balbes150/firefly-rk3399/ Any advice would be appreciated. Hello, did somebody already have success connecting a Raspberry Pi 7 inch display to the current Armbian build? I already tried to add this overlay via armbian-add-overlay, but this did not work. What am I missing? Thank you for your help!

I've been looking into streaming on the Orange Pi's, which doesn't work, so I thought I would share my findings. I was first told by customer service people that the problem was HDCP, but have found that it is actually the camera. The tech was kind enough to slip that the camera module doesn't have their hooks. I can still view in the browser, and this leaves me to the conclusion that TV boxes and Smart TVs are using the camera modules to record end users without their permission. If the system has the camera hooks, the app is allowed to play. The browser bypasses this, because it has permissions to access private information on our device…

Hi, Just received this unit yesterday with my surprise and lack of reading, the unit does not include eMMC or SPI so I am unable to boot directly into nvme drive. Are there instructions somewhere on how to setup the device to boot from MicroSD but use nvme as main drive? Thank you.

To prevent APT from installing <other-device> kernels that will render an installation useless I did the following: To see which kernel is running: $ uname -r 6.11.2-current-rockchip-rk3588 To see which kernels are installed: $ dpkg --get-selections 'linux-image*' inux-image-current-rockchip-rk3588 install linux-image-edge-rockchip-rk3588 install Its clear to see that I need "rockchip-rk3588" kernels and not the other 1000+ so wonderfully provides. Now that I know which kernel is used and which are not, I will allow and block what I need: $ sudo nano /etc/apt/preferences.d/kernel The fi…

Just like other times i burned sdcard and inserted latest version of Armbian_24_11, changed armbianEnv.txt to 5b and installed to emmc using armbian-installer. At the end i updated bootloader and emmc disappeared. I tried most of images and last image that is not bricking is Armbian_24.5.3_Orangepi5_bookworm_vendor_6.1.43_minimal.img.xz (link). Unbrick: 1) Reinstall Orangepi OS using document in the link on emmc. After installation is compete emmc will be back. 2) Reinstall Armbian lower than 24_11. The one that i found in archive that worked is 24.5.3.

Hello, These boards (Radxa Rock 2F and Rock 2A) have standard support so there should probably be a forum section for them. In its absence, I created this topic in the section for the most "similar" board. Currently, we only have the `vendor` kernel available for both. It seems that both of them have been mainlined in 6.18, as seen here for example: https://www.cnx-software.com/2025/12/01/linux-6-18-release-main-changes-arm-risc-v-and-mips-architectures/ The config file for the board currently looks like this: # Rockchip RK3528 quad core 1-4GB SoC WIFI/BT 0-32GB eMMC BOARD_NAME="ROCK 2F" BOARDFAMILY="rk35xx" BOOTCONFIG="rock-…

/usr/lib/dri/rockchip_dri.so just doesn't exist but not really sure if the xorg package is the xenial one or rockchip one. If it is the rockchip one then for some reason rockchip_dri.so isn't being built. On a startx it gives it a good go but always drops out to software rendering because its missing the above.

Hello, Each time I'm booting the Rock64, it starts on Jan, 21 of 2016 but the filesystem has a superblock on Jan,28 of 2018, so in the future. It's inconsistant and the filesystem is checking each time and I'm waiting a few seconds. How can I avoid this trouble ? Here is the screen shot of logs through the tty/usb console. I'm booting from the spi flash and a sd-card with Ubuntu 18.04.1.

I am thinking to buy NanoPi M4v2 and i want to use with nvme SSD. RockPi 4 support Gen 2.0. What about NanoPi? NanoPi only support Gen1? And what is the maximum theoretical speed for nvme SSD on NanoPi M4v2 ? I am between NanoPi M4v2 vs RockPi 4 and NanoPc T4. I like NanoPi M4 design and box, I don't like rock pi ssd hat and box, and NanoPc price is expensive, not compact like NanoPi, ram is LPDDR3 others LPDDR4, but x4 lane and support Gen 2.1 is good. I am so confused..

It is my first RockPi 4 board and first Armbian install - board working OK with official Radxa image (Debian 9) and eMMC drive. Since my plan is to use just CLI I'm trying to install Armbian Buster images. Unforunately both "current" and "legacy" versions are not booting up. I have used SDFormatter (just in case) and Balena (as usual) on 16B Transcend Premim and 32GB SanDisk Ultra (A1) cards - same result: board is powered on but nothing happened at all. Only green diode is lighting but no signs from SD card (red diode is not showing up). eMMC card not connected in both cases. I have checked other topics (i.e. ROCK64) but can not find a good solution how to proceed -…

My Helios64 has been booting from an M.2 drive since I got it, and while I've been doing regular apt-upgrades I've been ignoring the bootloader. This post suggests that could be a problem, so I figured I'd upgrade the bootloader through armbian-config. Trouble is, I can't. I can load armbian-config without error, but when I go into System there's no Install option any more. All I have are Freeze, Nightly, Lowlevel, Bootenv, CPU, Avahi, Hardware, Other, SSH, Firmware, ZSH, Default. Is there another way to ensure the bootloader is up-to-date?

Dear all; I'm looking for some help with my Helios64 NAS, since I update kernel to 5.15, zfs-dkms won't work. Which is normal, since the most recent version available for Helios64 of zfs-dkms is 2.0.3-1~bpo10+1 (tested on 1st April 2022), and this version is only compatible with kernel from 3.10 to 5.10. Then the first solution that I thought was to downgrade to 5.10 through the armbian-config tool, however when I'm trying to install the linux-headears (through armbian-config) I'm having the herdears of 5.15 (same issue with apt install linux-headers-current-rockchip64) while zfs-dkms looking for 5.10. Dear Armbians I have a NanoPi Neo 3 board with 1GB of RAM running in a DC for quite a while now. Because of an SD card failure, I had to make a fresh setup with the actual Bookworm image. Maybe someone can take a look and help me to fix my stability issue: Debug output: https://paste.armbian.com/sozozoyahi

Hi, I'm new to the forums and am looking into replacing OEM Klipper firmware on a Sovol SV06 Ace, The main board looks very similar to the MKS Skipr with the following notable differences: rk3308 B emmc soldered on No SD card. Wifi/Bluetooth added - Original boards used realtek and the latest version uses Broadcom. OEM wifi is hit or miss on connecting and hopefull will be improved with Trixie based Armbian. Sovol has mostly complied with the GPL and source/configuration files are on github. IIRC the kernel version was 5.1x I'm a long time Linux user (Slackware 8.1), have contributed OpenWRT builds and hav…

[Disclaimer on] This is the try to play through some sort of an approval process contuining discussion from here and there -- maybe move @hmartin's last post to the latter thread? IMO we need a transparent process to decide whether to support new devices or not weighing pros/cons for both developers and users and estimate efforts especially if it's a new platform. Even if hardware vendors send out free dev samples we should not automatically start with new boards but discuss and evaluate first since we already deal with way too much boards with a crew just too small. I would believe @Igorhas now every new Olimex device and TL Lim said he sent out 3 ROCK64 boards to v…

Is there any way/plans to support the FrindlyArm RK3399 SOM in Armbian? Does anyone know the hardware well enough to know if another firmware could be loaded on it? It seems to be a very nice module, and the dev board has just about everything one might want on it. On a side note, possibly derailing my own topic, is there any plans to add any of the VPU patches for the RK3399 and associated software? It seems like support for that is getting pretty close, and it would be great if some of the patches that are floating around could get include in the official distro. I'm about to dive in an try getting at least accelerated ffmpeg working on my M4V2 and/or neo4, …

My NanoPi M4V2 wont boot. It has a solid red light no green at all. I cant access it with SSH. I went through the troubleshooting checklist available for the NanoPi in regards to the red light. Nothing was solved. I tried different SD cards with different types of images and different types of burners. Nothing works. I know that the SD cards, images, and burners are not the problem cuz I tested it on a Raspberry Pi with no problems.

Rockchip has released bsp kernel 5.10 for rk356x and rk3588. Since multimedia support is not fully supported by mainline kernel, a legacy kernel would be good if you want h264/hevc hardware decode. To make kodi support hardware decoding, you need: 1, ffmpeg supporting rkmpp. I've packaged it in my ppa: https://launchpad.net/~liujianfeng1994/+archive/ubuntu/rockchip-multimedia, which is based on the patch from https://github.com/JeffyCN/FFmpeg/. 2, kodi built with gles render system, which is also in my ppa 3, a gpu driver supporting gles. For rk356x you can use mainline panfrost driver. For rk3588 you can use panfork-mesa from my ppa: https://launchpad…

I installed Armbian on my R5s Armbian 23.8 Bookworm Kernel 6.5, Size: 479Mb, Release date: Sep 18, 2023 On this version, I find the classical problem : a module I want to build does not build. Reason ? apt says : Coundn’t find any package by glob ‘linux-headers-6.5.3-edge-odroid’ And make creates an error because “build” directory is not found. I can find the linux-headers-6.5.3 : https://cdn.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/v6.x/linux-6.5.3.tar.gz But where can I find the odroid version ?

I'm using a Rock 5 ITX and noticed after installing the latest rk35xx kernel image (6.1.84-vendor-rk35xx) that my system wasn't booting. So I connected to the debug console and observed a kernel oops being emitted. It dumps out a few pages of data, but the initial messages and call trace are: I have all the hex data if someone would use it but it doesn't seem worth including here. The boot flounders around in systemd for a bit but never gets to a login prompt - and I'm not that savvy with uboot to enter single user mode or otherwise dig in more. So I reinstalled from nothing, upgraded all my packages (including the vendor-rk35xx kernel), …

Good day, I have recently purchased an Orange Pi 5 Pro and want to use Armbian on it. Armbian (Debian 13 Trixie) does not boot and gives a initramfs error. I have read on erasing the SPI flash memory, but have a few questions. Will erasing the SPI flash memory affect the booting of other operating systems. Is it safe to erase the SPI flash memory? What is the issue around Armbian not booting because of the SPI flash memory? How exactly would I safely erase the SPI flash memory? Thank You

Hi, I have bricked my system by installing the rk3399 legacy multmedia framework. It was installed on emmc. I was able to recover my system by using the P11 jumper to skip the boot on emmc, as explained in the doc, and now my system runs on a SDCard. The problem is, it seems that I cannot access the EMMC anymore -- it does not show up /dev. My intuition is that the P11 jumper disables the EMMC altogether. Am I write and if so, how can I access the EMMC again? I would like to be able to read it again (I had important data, notably unison synchronization files) and reinstall a fresh OS on it. Any help would be welcome!

Hi all, I’m working with an RK3588-based board and running into a frequency scaling issue. Before any updates I had 115 MB/s transfer speed. When I updated to Armbian 20.08.11 Focal with Linux 5.8.15-rockchip64 the speed has go down to ~15 MB/s. The bigger change that happened was kernel upgrade. I exclude problems like: PSU (it is over enough), home network (nothing has changed) and SSD speed (checked - 330 MB/s). Has anyone else also observed limited speed rec…

Hello, If I unplug my M1 for the whole night. When I power up It does not start the first time. It stays stuck on the hardkernel splashScreen. If I power cycle, it starts as it should. I'm booting on the SD card and system is on nvme. System is up-to-date. Do you have any idea of what may happen? Thanks Julien

If you want to build out-of-tree kernel modules, you will need: kernel headers (installed with apt) kernel sources in /usr/src (cloned from git) kernel config (from /proc/config.gz) some preparation of the sources (but you can avoid building it 😉) # Install kernel headers apt install -y linux-headers-legacy-rk35xx # Install kernel source cd /usr/src git clone https://github.com/armbian/linux-rockchip.git ln -nsf linux-rockchip linux-5.10.160-legacy-rk35xx cd linux-rockchip git checkout rk-5.10-rkr6 # Prepare kernel source zcat /proc/config.gz >.config yes | make olddefconfig make prepare modules_prepare cp /usr/src/linux-headers-$…

Hello, I have been trying to switch to kernel 6.8 but images are not working properly. Screen does not show anything at all. 6.1 images can boot so users can proceed with installation. Failure has been observed for some time starting with earlier 6.8-rc versions. Has anyone tried any 6.6 build?

I built up a NanoPC-T4 with a 240GB NVMe. I am using the supplied heat sink and the black metal case that FriendlyArm sells. While I was copying an image over I got a board failure. A reset and power cycle didn't work. The stat light no longer shows activity. Just power.. that is all. Amazon was great and replaced the board. I am in the process of backing up my NVMe. After the backup I will run an OS install and restore the image. Has anyone else ran into this ? The black metal case isn't hot enough to burn my hands.. it's just very warm to the touch,. Welcome to ARMBIAN 5.67 user-built Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS 4.4.166-rk3399 …

Hi. I'm using an OrangePi RK3399 and if the power supply from the 12V barrel jack is removed, the LTE module connected to the mPCIE port dies. Does anybody know how to make the mPCIE port work while on battery? The mPCIE dying is due to the port being powered from the main power supply line VBUS from the barrel jack (before the BQ25700a battery charger IC, according to the board's schematics). I don't know why power is not supplied from VSYS like everything else on the board. So, what I've found is that if I want to power the mPCIE port from the battery, the reverse OTG mode from the BQ25700a battery charger IC would need to be set (allowing voltage to flow from the bat…

Howdy With a p2 that already had ubuntu installed on the ssd using the firefly technique, it seemed time to upgrade using to armbian. Installing the new uboot went fine. It is not clear how to confirm it. The command did not error. However using the jammy 22.08 images, the uuid does not appear to be on the SD card. At this time I do not have a serial cable. However the image shows sum of the situation. Any help appreciated including advice on rj45 to serial cable. Thanks.

What gives with the Armbian website links? Links to all previous versions Armbian for the OrangePi R1 Plus LTS have been removed. The links to SHA hash and PGP signature do nothing. I was hoping to use an image that was based on Debian Bullseye, but that link has been recently removed. It is possible to create my image, but I would spend my time working on my code, not wading through the options to create an image.

On my NanoPi R6C I downloaded the Armbian 23.11 Bookworm CLI and booted the machine from the SD card. Then I installed gnome and firefox. Most things works so far, but I get no sound over hdmi (there is no headphone jack). The gnome - settings - sound shows only the dummy device. Youtube videos play ok, but somewhat laggy and with very high processor load (all cores close to 100% on the gnome system monitor).

The most current download images for Helios64 are now all provided with linux 6.18.xx. I downloaded a minimal image and checked the dtb: it would not appear to contain the opp-microvolt patch that made Helios64 finally stable. So for the ones who have stability issues again on Helios64, I attached the patched dtb compiled for linux 6.18.xx using the exact same opp-microvolt values as in the previous dtb versions I compiled for linux 6.6 and 6.12. The current linux deb files can be downloaded from beta.armbian.com, the linux 6.18.18 deb files I used can be downloaded from here (to be installed with 'dpkg -i linux*'). In order to install …

Hi, I'm making a Media Box. I've got MVP compiled and optimized for gstreamer vaapi support. I was wondering how far off is DRI2 support for the mali fbdev armsoc kernel driver ? I haven't found all the source to build it. Rockchip doesn't list the NanoPC-T4. Is the FireFly a close fascimile ? The only reason whysk is I noticed the Firefly dtb is included in my nanopc-t4 install. The RockChip's Github repository for x86-video-armsock didn't list the NanoPC-T4 in their source. L.S. After installing Armbian_20.02.1_Rock64_buster_current_5.4.20.7z on my 4GB rock64 running on SD card - I could run for days 2 processes with "openssl speed" resulting in 2 CPU's 100% busy. - But when I added a third "openssl speed" it only takes minutes to freeze the board. - Further the "ondemand" scaling_governor is active (default setting) I noticed that distributed /etc/default/cpufrequtils contains line: ==> MAX_SPEED=1390000 This value is not in the list with valid values for this CPU : ==> 408000 600000 816000 1008000 1200000 1296000 1512000 After updating this to valid value and restart service …

Hello everyone, I am new to this so please forgive my eventual mistake. I have a Rock 4 SE with Armbian Linux 6.12.13-current-rockchip64 (bookworm) for Rockpi 4B (because there is not a special version for SE it re-commanded to use 4B). And I try to use the CSI port to connect a Camera Raspberry Pi V2.1. And I does not work, I have tried to add different value to the overlay in /boot/armbianEnv.txt like overlays=rockchip-csi csi or imx219 with a reboot each time, but it doesn't seem to work. Looking around, it seems like there is a lot of issue with csi camera and rock 4 with armbian (and sometime other os). But none seems to have…

I was in the middle of assessing which new firmware to use on a set of OrangePi 5 Max, since the future of Joshua Riek's one is uncertain, and after installing the corresponding Armbian release I was welcomed with a notorious message warning me not to use it in production. I understand that it's community maintained, but is it really unsafe to use for production projects? Since Armbian seems to be the most popular distribution I wanted to double check before moving on to the next.

Moderator edit (pfeerick): I have modified this post to contextualise this split thread. It was initially intended to be a discussion of a board bring up procedure / proposal format, and has since evolved into discussion of the rock64 generally. Xalius originally said in this post: TODO-List sounds good to me, I will run some tests as soon as China Post/DHL actually deliver my package. I get a 4GB version with the suppressor diodes for USB3 already replaced... This is what tkasier originally wrote in his first post, minus the disclaimer as was only relevant to that thread:

I successfully booted this one and connected over Ethernet. Haven't checked WiFi yet. However, the observation comparing to the original Rockchip's Jammy image: the serial port goes quiet after the U-Boot fires up the kernel. The bootloader on the board and the _original_ kernel use non-standard 1500000 baudrate serial speed for the console. I haven't looked into Armbian's guts yet, but I assume it's a matter of right kernel boot arguments for this board to actually spit out kernel output over serial. What I'm not sure is if the console can be cloned between serial and UI over HDMI (console on the frame buffer if I'm right). I'm open to…

Hello all, I am running Armbian 23.05.1 rock5b jammy legacy on a rock5b. The current kernel version, as given by uname -r, is 5.10.160-rockchip-rk3588. Hi. At first I'd like to apologize for the tone of this post, but there are things that I've been fighting with, without any success, for a long time. Problem 1. I have, as it seems, a very common problem with Armbian on RK3399. I burned Armbian 23.8.1 for the Rock Pi 4C+ onto an eMMC module, which booted, but there is no HDMI video output. I can't SSH into it over ethernet and provide more details because the server is disabled by default. I assume that the problem here is the same one as I often see coming back to all RK3399 boards and the solution is always the same - "libreelec patches for the HDMI subsystem" (whatever they are). If it'…

I ran the 5.8/5.9 kernel for weeks without any issues (no RAM unstability, no crash, no ethernet issue). Now I reinstalled the thing and came back to a 4.4 kernel to have USB-C support. The thing is… Once every hours, the 1GBps Ethernet disconnects. Once connected through serial port, I can check the port status and it's shown as `Unknown`. I can `ip link set down eth0; ip link set up eth0` to set it back up. Am I the only one with this issue ? Is it well known on 4.4 and solved on 5.9 ?

I have two Rock64 single-board computers running Focal Fossa. One is stable and the other gets segmentation faults when compiling and sometimes a kernel oops. After some searching, my understanding is this can be fixed by slowing down the memory speed by installing rk3328_ddr_333MHz_v1.13.bin from the ayufan-rock64 GitHub repository into uboot along with possibly rk3328_miniloader_v2.46.bin as well. Unfortunately, I'm clueless how to do this. I'm running the latest Armbian Focal Fossa Server from August 19 with the 5.7.17 kernel. Do I need to build a new image or can I patch an existing SD card? I'm sorry if I there is already a thread on this.…

If so how'd ya do it!?!? My personal experience had been a rock solid device on the original official Debian Armbian image (Linux Kernel: 5.10), and OMV5. It never went down unless I manually rebooted, and I never needed any CPU governor changes, voltage changes or otherwise to keep it stable. Reading so much stuff about OMV5 being end of life made me pull the trigger on upgrade to OMV6 along with the kernel upgrade that OMV did automatically, at the time unaware of the state of Kobol and Armbian support. Now I get about 1-2 days on average before it KPs and I have to hit the reset button. Tried the CPU underclocking, performa…

Hey, Quick question, can I use HDDs that have the pin-3 SATA "power disable" feature with the Kobol NAS, or should I steer completely clear of them?

Was looking at the build repo and noticed there is already support for Orange pi 5 max (add support for orangepi5 max · armbian/build@b38e4b2). Any specific reason there are no "official" community builds, or did I miss it?

With the stable images for NanoPi M4 I see CPU speed is limited to 1.8Mhz, whereas with nightly builds I get up to 2GHz for the fast cores. I would rather like to stay with stable image, also because boot time is much longer with nightly builds. What is the easiest way to enable up to 2GHz CPU speeds with stable build? JB

Last FriendlyElec nanopi-r2s image has hardware rng, what about adding it to Armbian? For my nanopi-r2s I patched dtb, compiled kernel module with dkms and managed to make it work with rngd. Amount of enthropy increased from ~2000 with haveged/jitterenthropy to ~4000. The only problem is FIPS failures so I had to run rngd with --ignorefail flag.
