  1. Hello i made a mistake when i was selecting an other kernel via armbian-config. I was powering off the board after the kernel change (which normally worked fine when i switched between dev and current) and this time something wrong happened i dont know what exactly but the VMLinuz and uinitram is missing in boot. How can i chroot my Armbian system so re-run armbian-config and install the kernel properly? I tried several other things,,.. copying the boot folder from a working install of armbian but i dont really know which kernel he wants. The easiest thing might be chrooting... but i dont know how to chroot my emmc. I plugged it into the emmc adap…

  5. I have attempted this with the vendor kernels and the mainline kernels, and they both do the same thing. The vendor kernel cannot see the EMMC at all after running updates on it. So that version would kill itself when updated even if it did install and boot off the emmc. The wifi also doesnt work on the mainline, so the options are mainline with no wifi or vendor with no emmc. Install to SD card --> to through setup wizard --> change firmware to 5b instead of 5.--> reboot --> armbian-install --> boot from emmc, system on emmc ---> spends a long time on counting files ---> file transfer screen flashes by in 1 second. --> shutdown ---> bo…

Hi, Around the forums, I've seen that some people have been successful in running the lima driver on Amlogic or Allwinner hardware: https://forum.armbian.com/topic/14180-bananapro-lima-driver-problems/ https://forum.armbian.com/topic/11424-playing-with-limamesa-mali-drivers/ However, I couldn't seem to find any posts with Rockchip hardware, specifically the ROCK64. I tried to enable it myself by doing the following, but was unsuccessful so far. enable kernel module lima via "sudo modprobe lima" update /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/01-armbian-defaults.conf as below per the lima wiki instructions (also tried w/o the "Device" secti…

  8. Hi everyone, After the last armbian update with a new kernel does the internal networkcard not work anymore! Luckely does a USB NIC work and can i run everything but on only 100Mbps iwonstead of 1Gb of the internal NIC. What i remember did this problem also a few years ago happen. I have pasted all the required info to pastebin because armbianmonitor -u does not work. I got an error that network is not availble. Thank you all for you support!

  9. Posting here following what was recommended on twitter. After updating my helios64 earlier this week and rebooting to get the new kernel, I realized it was suspiciously silent. A quick check to sensor temps readings and physical check made me realize the fan were not spinning. After a quick read on the wiki, I checked fancontrol which was indeed failing: root@helios64:~ # systemctl status fancontrol.service ● fancontrol.service - fan speed regulator Loaded: loaded (/lib/systemd/system/fancontrol.service; enabled; vendor preset: enabled) Drop-In: /etc/systemd/system/fancontrol.service.d └─pid.conf Active: failed (Result:…

  10. Hi there, as the Chinese market is missing "in stock" OPi4 (not B), RockPi 4B (for more than a month) I am looking for alternative. Found "Asus Tinker Board 2", same RK3399, 4GB RAM, 4xUSB3 as plus (OPi4 has 2x3.0 + 2x2.0, AFAIK). https://pl.aliexpress.com/item/1005002304966362.html Is it compatible with Armbian or have I to wait until OPi4 / Rock Pi 4B will be available? (as it is not listed in subforum header). Laurent.

  11. The most current download images for Helios64 are now all provided with linux 6.18.xx. I downloaded a minimal image and checked the dtb: it would not appear to contain the opp-microvolt patch that made Helios64 finally stable. So for the ones who have stability issues again on Helios64, I attached the patched dtb compiled for linux 6.18.xx using the exact same opp-microvolt values as in the previous dtb versions I compiled for linux 6.6 and 6.12. The current linux deb files can be downloaded from beta.armbian.com, the linux 6.18.18 deb files I used can be downloaded from here (to be installed with 'dpkg -i linux*'). In order to install …

  12. Hi Armbians :) Armbian's discontinued support of the NanoPi Neo3 board, hit me very hard. I have operated multiple of these SBCs with Armbian very stable, in different DCs for a long time. Because of the defunctional kernel under Armbian, I was forced to look around for alternatives and only came across Manjaro, DietPi and Friendlyarm published by FriendlyElec themself. Unfortunately I was not happy with Manjaro and Friendlyarm. Dietpi, on the other hand, seems to be doing quite well till now. And most importantly, it doesn't seem to have the kernel/ reboot problem that affected Armbian. But how can that be if it's based on Armbi…

  13. Board: Nanopi M4 with 4GB OS: Armbian_5.65_Nanopim4_Debian_stretch_default_4.4.162 Boot from SD, rootfs on an external HDD 8TB (WD MyBook). I attached another external HDD (Toshiba 2TB). 16. Hi, i have successfully installed my new helios64 and enabled zfs. Everythings works so far, but it seems I'm missing something "important" in regards to ZFS. I did the following tests: I took one of my WD 4TB Plus drives (in slot 3) and formatted the disk with a) ext4 (mkfs.ext4 /dev/sdc) b) btrfs (mkfs.btrfs /dev/sdc) and c) zfs (zpool create test /dev/sdc). Based on these 3 formats I did a "dd if=/dev/zero of=test2.bin bs=1GB count=5" to measure write performance and a "dd if=test2.bin of=/dev/null" to get the read performance (all tests were done 3 times, results averaged) The results I got look like this: a) ext4 ...…

Hi, I'm currently working to enable SPI on NanoPi M4 but it is not working... I have edited main DT to the following one and now /dev/spidev0.0 appears. But when I checked spi with this tool:https://github.com/torvalds/linux/blob/master/tools/spi/spidev_test.c I only got the result below and no matrix appears... spi mode: 0x0 bits per word: 8 max speed: 500000 Hz (500 KHz) Here is what dmesg | grep spi returns I have checked the output from the proper GPIO with oscilloscope but found nothing. almost spent couple weeks on this Anyone had the same issue or knows what to do here?

  21. Hello, I've bought 3 new identical drives and put 2 of them in the Helios64 and 1 onto my desktop. I ran smartctl longtest+shortest on both drives simultanously but all of them were aborted/interupted by host. `# /usr/sbin/smartctl -a /dev/sda` Output: http://ix.io/2OLt On my desktop the longtest from smartctl succeeds without error and all 3 drives received the same care, I just bough them and installed them, so unlikely the drives are physically damaged. 22. A few Armbian packages were updated (armbian-bsp-cli-helios64, armbian-config, armbian-firmware &armbian-zsh) to version 21.05.08. At some point I noticed that the fancontrol service had failed to start up after the reboot - it was complaining about a file missing(/dev/thermal-cpu). 23. Hey guys, I just received an orange pi 5b, pcb says version 1.1. Unfortunately, the HDMI is dead, out of the box. No display is being recognized. The pi boots, though. Then I had a closer look at the HDMI connector on the board. I wonder if the HDMI ever works for anybody. The traces are connected in the wrong place, especially the DDC lines for monitor data and the hotplug detect is mixed up. The picture confirms that. The pin on the lef is supposed to be hotplug detect, but it routed like a differential pair and connects to a capacitor. The other trace of that pair is also in the wrong place. Can some of you confirm that? Do…

  24. It is my first RockPi 4 board and first Armbian install - board working OK with official Radxa image (Debian 9) and eMMC drive. Since my plan is to use just CLI I'm trying to install Armbian Buster images. Unforunately both "current" and "legacy" versions are not booting up. I have used SDFormatter (just in case) and Balena (as usual) on 16B Transcend Premim and 32GB SanDisk Ultra (A1) cards - same result: board is powered on but nothing happened at all. Only green diode is lighting but no signs from SD card (red diode is not showing up). eMMC card not connected in both cases. I have checked other topics (i.e. ROCK64) but can not find a good solution how to proceed -…

Dear all; I'm looking for some help with my Helios64 NAS, since I update kernel to 5.15, zfs-dkms won't work. Which is normal, since the most recent version available for Helios64 of zfs-dkms is 2.0.3-1~bpo10+1 (tested on 1st April 2022), and this version is only compatible with kernel from 3.10 to 5.10. Then the first solution that I thought was to downgrade to 5.10 through the armbian-config tool, however when I'm trying to install the linux-headears (through armbian-config) I'm having the herdears of 5.15 (same issue with apt install linux-headers-current-rockchip64) while zfs-dkms looking for 5.10. As the other thread is getting a bit cluttered I thought I'd start a new one. Thanks to the good work of @pask and others we now have a working image for the M4 v2. However, despite following instructions to the letter. I can't get the board to boot from the eMMC card, in fact I don't think the board even recognizes the card ( I've tried different ones ) Also not being able to connect via a serial cable is hampering my attempts at debugging the boot process. Cany anyone put up a Muppets guide on the steps required to achieve this ?

I have successfully gotten Armbian to boot from a USB flash drive on the Rock64 board. Followed ayufan's instructions on how to update SPI Flash with his boot code and then wrote the Armbian Rock64 image to a USB flash drive. All worked as expected. Thanks to everyone at Armbian for all the great work!

  34. I backed this early, and I have had nothing but stability problems since I built the thing. Sometimes my machine runs for as few as 6 minutes before crashing, and helpfully, it keeps clearing the systemd journal every time it starts up so I can't even see what happened just before it crashed. It crashes running OMV and Syncthing with high load, it crashes doing absolutely nothing but watching the systemd journal. It crashes doing nothing at all. When it crashes, it corrupts my files, and often the OMV Database requiring me to CONSTANTLY reset the GUI password for OMV, and then find that half of OMV isn't working. It does this on both uSD cards and on the inbuilt MMC.…

First time user here. I got a Rock64 board and flashed Armbian_20.08.1_Rock64_focal_current_5.8.6_desktop.img using Etcher to an SD card. When I try to boot, nothing happens. If I examine the SD card on my Linux PC, there is only one partition on it and it appears to be a kernel image. I assumed that the .img file would have the U-Boot partition as well. Is there a different type of image file I should be using that would contain everything that I need to boot? If not, how do I create such an image?

But then I can't boot from the same SD card anymore. I always boot from the eMMC memory. I expected that boot sequence would be set on SD card first, then check eMMC.

  48. Hello everyone: I own an Orange Pi 5B 16GB. Today I updated from Armbian 24.2.1 to 24.5.1 stable. This new release includes the 6.1 kernel. When I issue the apt upgrade command I correctly get updated to 24.5.1 version but I am still in kernel 5.10. So, in order to be at kernel 6.1, I use armbian-config. The problem is, after doing this and rebooting, the board no longer boots, I dont' get SSH, anything... Another thing that I updated besides armbian itself where sobre libraries like libv4l or libmpp from @amazingfate, before updating those 6.1 kernel switching worked. Any help in how can I debug (like reading UART port) or solv…

I'm running Armbian on a 4 GB Rock64, downloaded and installed yesterday. I've been using Debian/Raspbian/Armbian for about 10 years and I've really come to rely on Synaptic for searching and being able to make download scripts. Not every day but about once a week especially if I'm setting up something (like this Rock64). This Synaptic's access to the package database seems incredibly slow. A single search may take 20 minutes. After installing something it reloads the list and shows it on the screen, that can be another 20 minutes. During this time it's got 1 thread using 100% of one CPU. Typing is sometimes impaired, window repainting usually. …

Hello, I have been holding onto kernel 5.10 (5.10.21-rockchip64 to be exact) for a while as it has been pretty stable for me and also because I heard bad feedback from newer kernels on the Helios 64. But with the recent discovery of the DirtyPipe exploit (which has been introduced in Linux 5.8), I might be looking to upgrade to the latest Armbian kernel (which contains a fix to the vulnerability). So, my question to fellow Helios64 users is: have you encountered any issue with kernel 5.15, especially when using OpenMediaVault 5, Docker, MergerFS and NFS?

  53. I thought I'd rebuild the NAS with the latest image in the hope that it would be more stable. Unfortunately my hopes were in vain. I was in the middle of doing an rsync and it crashed with a kernel panic. Had a look on the forum and implemented the two suggestions of limiting the cpu to 1200MHz and tweaking the voltages. CPU @ 50c as reported in the login header. Anyway after updating the setting I reboot it and it crashed immediately ! The same SMP issue that seems to have been plaguing this board since release

I can only describe the issue as "scan lines," but they are random black bars that appear through out the entire screen (as if WiFi is interrupting the signal only there's no WiFi on the device). I would like to know the best way to bisect the issue as I'm fully capable of cloning the repo, building the image, loading the image and testing it out but if there are pointers to simplify the process I'd love to hear. 94. Can you guys share your experience with disk sleep on the Helios64 + Armbian. In my case I haven't seen the disks sleep - they are always spinning (or so they seem) and never on standby. I have a standalone /dev/sda and a RAID5 array with disks /dev/sd[b-e] (created with mdadm) - and XFS formatted logical volumes on top of these. 'iotop' says that nothing is accessing the disks: 'hdparm -B /dev/sd[a-z]' after each reboot is always: sudo hdparm -B /dev/sd[a-e] /dev/sda: APM_level = 254 /dev/sdb: APM_level = off /dev/sdc: APM_level = off /dev/sdd: APM_level = off /dev/sde: APM_level = off 'hdparm -C /dev/sd[a-z]' …

  95. Hi. Every few days I've been noticing that my monitor just goes blank. The machine keeps running but nothing I do will restore the display. Even if I try to visit another virtual terminal, nothing, still blank. I can ssh to the machine but no command will allow me to restore the display. The only way I get the display back is to reboot the machine. This can't be normal. I'd love it for someone to help get to the heart of this problem. Thank you.

  96. I'm using Orange Pi 5 Plus, I've updated to latest by apt upgrade but seems to be stuck on old version as you can see 25.2.2 but kernel is still 6.1.75 : # uname -a Linux abeure 6.1.75-vendor-rk35xx #1 SMP Wed Aug 21 11:45:59 UTC 2024 aarch64 GNU/Linux # cat /var/log/apt/history.log Start-Date: 2025-02-25 01:00:39 Commandline: /usr/bin/unattended-upgrade Upgrade: armbian-firmware:arm64 (25.2.1, 25.2.2) End-Date: 2025-02-25 01:00:42 Start-Date: 2025-02-25 01:01:10 Commandline: /usr/bin/unattended-upgrade Upgrade: linux-u-boot-orangepi5-plus-vendor:arm64 (24.11.1, 25.2.2) End-Date: 2025-02-25 01:01:11 Latest version https://www.armbian.com/…

  97. Started by JSF,

I have some questions about the Linux images that Ayufan built for the Rock64 board. Not really technical issues so I did not think they should go on the Github page. If this is not the appropriate place for these, let me now and I'll remove this post. Also, if this is not the place, where should I be asking these types of questions? I just downloaded the new PRE-RELEASE version of Debian Stretch from the Github page (Yes, I know it's bleeding edge, but just experimenting for now). Specifically the stretch-minimal-rock64-0.6.5-152-arm64 image. I just burned it to my eMMC board. Will boot and see how it all works tomorrow. There are a number of…

  98. Hello Armbian Team, I am experiencing some difficulties with my Orange Pi 5 Ultra. Currently, there is no Armbian distribution available for this board. Although official Debian/Ubuntu images are provided on the Orange Pi website, none of them include the latest NPU driver (RKNPU 0.9.8). Since Orange Pi 5 Ultra has hardware similarities with Orange Pi 5 Max, I was wondering if it would be possible to release an Armbian version for this board as well. An official Armbian release would be highly beneficial for developers and users who require a stable and optimized OS for this hardware. Would it be possible to consider adding support for Oran…

  99. Greetings, I have multiple NanoPi NEO3s on the same subnet. When booting with Ubuntu 20.04.6 LTS they use the physical MAC address when posting to DHCP, but ARMbian seems to create a default (fake) MAC address and uses that instead. Judging by the "armbianmonitor -U" output, ARMbian knows about the physical MAC address, it just doesn't use it. The NEO3 board is listed as supported, but there is another posting dated 2020 that still seems to be unresolved. MAC address c2:1f:b3:b0:d2:41 seems to be a generic (fake) address that is being used. Is there a remedy to allow it to use the actual hardware address with this kernel ? -- -- -- brack…
