  2. Hi, I'm using NanoPi M4 $ uname -a Linux nanopim4 4.4.213-rk3399 #3 SMP Mon Oct 5 15:53:54 CEST 2020 aarch64 aarch64 aarch64 GNU/Linux and wondering if I can upgrade the linux kernel to 5.8.x without reinstalling other things. I tried armbian-config -> System -> Other All available options are those 4.4.213-rk3399 with different Armbian versions 20.08.x. I'm currently on 20.08.9 Appreciated any step, pointer Thank you

Hi What is the appropriate method to upgrade to a new release (20.11) without reimaging the SD card? I have not attempted this before as I have mainly used Ubuntu which provides sudo do-release-upgrade Note I am not using a VM or Docker. Can I upgrade the kernel using the downloaded Helios64 image? sudo apt install ./linux-image-<flavour> Is there a way to do it using armbian-config (like there is for raspi-config) Or do I need to download the armbian source and then compile ./compile.sh

  4. Hi, I bought a 2-pin piezo buzzer to use for alarm messages. It is connected to the P4 header on the board. When I execute the "beep" command in the console I only get short click noises. Are special kernel drivers necessary for a correct function?

  5. Downloaded Armbian_community_25.2.0-trunk.110_Tinkerboard-2_bookworm_current_6.6.63_minimal.img.xz from GitHub. Burned with Balena. Filesystem is different from what I'm expecting. But it's Rockchip so I don't know what to expect. I'm used to Asus Tinker 2 Bullseye's 8 or 9 partitions. Plug it in. Doesn't boot. I'm able to see the root fs so I know it's there. What am I doing wrong?

  6. If you want the fans of your Helios64 to start spinning earlier, look no further. This will allow the fans to spin at a constant speed from the earliest stage of initrd until fancontrol is started by the system. My use-case is for full disk encryption and recovery in initramfs, sometimes I can have the machine powered on for quite a while before fancontrol starts. Or, if the boot process encounters an error the fans may never start, this prevents that. Step 1: Tell initramfs to include the pwm-fan module echo pwm-fan | sudo tee -a /etc/initramfs-tools/modules Step 2: Create a new file at /etc/initramfs-tools/scripts/init-top/fan with the followin…

Hi, I wanted to convert my root filesystem to btrfs. This allows me to use snapper to take regular snapshops. I also use btrbk to send my snapshots to my secondary storage (also a btrfs array). My root filesystems is installed to eMMC, but there isn't any reason you couldn't do this with an sd card. These instructions are done with a laptop running Linux. I'm using Debian in this case, although any distro with a recent kernel and btrfs tools installed should work. CAVEATS: The current u-boot image (2020.08.21) doesn't support booting natively to btrfs. u-boot *does* support btrfs though. Hopefully a future build of u-boot will add btrfs…

  10. Hello everyone! I will teach you how to install WiringOP on Armbian. It's not the most practical method, but it works. First, we download the repository from the original website. $ apt-get update $ apt-get install -y git $ git clone https://github.com/orangepi-xunlong/wiringOP.git Then, we proceed to look for the name of our board that is associated with Armbian. $ cat /etc/armbian-release | grep "BOARD=" | awk -F'=' '{print $2}' The previous command will give us the name of the board, which is the following: root@armbian:~# cat /etc/armbian-release | grep "BOARD=" | awk -F'=' '{print $2}' orangepi-r1plus-lts Now, we pro…

Hi, I'm trying to build a zynthian synthesizer on a nanoPi m4v2. The principle is to start from a minimal buster image and run a bunch of compilation scripts (see here on github) to create all the needed software. But all that stuff is for Raspberry Pi. In an initialization script (see here on github) they define compilation flags like this: if [ "$ZYNTHIAN_FORCE_RBPI_VERSION" ]; then hw_architecture="armv7l" rbpi_version=$ZYNTHIAN_FORCE_RBPI_VERSION else hw_architecture=`uname -m 2>/dev/null` if [ -e "/sys/firmware/devicetree/base/model" ]; then rbpi_version=`tr -d '\0' < /sys/firmware/devicetree/base/model` else…

I am now working on Bionic Desktop for Orange Pi rk3399. I want to do something similar to what have been done on Raspberry. i.e to use hdmi ddc as i2c (i2c over hmdi) http://blog.koalo.de/2013/11/i2c-over-hdmi.html I could run i2cdump, ic2get and i2cwrite without any problem but I can't find the i2c device for hdmi ddc of my OrangePi rk3399. My wild guess is that I need to enable hdmi ddc by modifying the uboot folder. However, I don't know how to start with. Can anyone give me some pointers? Thanks in advance Eli

Hello to everybody, I am using rock 5b, PCB Version 1.42 with Armbian 22.11 CLI. I would like to connect IQaudIO DigiAMP+ based on the TAS5756 (https://shop.max2play.com/en/iqaudio-digiamp.html). According to the GPIO pinout of ROCK 5b and the datasheet of DigiAMP+ (page 21), this seams to be feasible from the electrical perspective. But the software perspective overwhelmes me as a linux novice. If I understand it correctly, I need more or less two things: a device tree overlay to activate the appropriate GPIOs with their I2S and I2C functionality and to tell the kernel about the attached device (DTS file or the compiled D…

I am trying to enable sound with RT5651 audio codec on SoM-RK3399v2. Hardware is integrated on the board (on i2c1 bus, address 0x1a), worked with official FriendlyElec Linux (4.4 kernel IIRC) and tests were run with powered speakers (which work when connected to PC). I used this patch to patch my current device tree: https://github.com/armbian/build/blob/master/patch/kernel/rockchip64-dev/board-nanopi-m4v2-dts-add-sound-card.patch I did not use Kconfig file from the patch as it seems that my kernel have has built that modules. page 19 of NanoPI M4V2 and page 7 of SoM-RK3399 schematic shows that same audio codec (rt5651 on the same busses (I2S1 and I2C1…

  18. Dear Forum! If you are using Emmc as boot device, a M.2-ssd as system device and OMV is installed. You can backup with the OMV given image-backup (dd, fsarchiver). But how you can restore the backup? You need to boot from Sdcard (boot and system from sd)? And after that you can switch again back to emmc-boot and ssd-system without any issue? Is there any other easier way i.e. with CloneZilla to image-backup/restore? How you can do this?

Hi all, I'm a bit out of date with regards to a working image for the NanoPi M4 v2 board. I have @pask image which works great but having to boot from the sd card and flash a bootloader patch to eMMC card whenever you reinstall ( I constantly break installs by over experimenting with stuff I don't know enough about ) is a bit of a pain. Anyone know of an image I can just download and flash ?

Hi all, built an image for the nanopi m4v2 today using this command line from the build folder ./compile.sh BOARD=nanopim4v2 BRANCH=current BUILD_DESKTOP=no BUILD_MINIMAL=no KERNEL_CONFIGURE=no RELEASE=jammy the build completed successfuly so I flashed it to an sdcard, the problem is is won't boot, I used my newly found skill ( thanks @Werner ) and connected my UART serial TTL cable. The output is rather verbose so apologies up front - does this mean anything to anyone here. The build is the same as I normally do and it's worked fine until today.

  25. Hi, I've downloaded the latest two images from the links mentioned https://disk.yandex.ru/d/-zSW21XKN0pfIA/ArmbianTV/20230103-edge But none of them boot from SD on my M3 box. The only one booting is the image from this link https://redirect.armbian.com/station-m3/Bullseye_legacy_xfce But this makes the cooling fan on the M3 to always spin at full speed and it's not usable because of this (it's really noisy). How can I make the other images boot? Tried both Etcher and USBimager. Please help. Thanks.

  30. I notice the Helio64 hardware supports WOL, but I can't see anything in the Wiki about it (only Helios4) The Helio64 can draw some power with 5 spinning disks, I would love to have it sleep until needed. Is there any information on setting this up? I can see Autoshutdown plugin for OMV, but there is options for: Shutdown Hibernate Suspend Hybrid Sleep Suspend then Hibernate Does Helios64 support all these methods? Then once the unit is in some form of shutdown or sleep state, how can I make use to WOL to wake it up? Thanks.

  31. First of all, I would like to express my gratitude to the maintainers for their contributions. This project has helped me a lot, and it runs smoothly on my device. It seems that the status of the nanopi-r5s has been in the staging phase for a long time. I am wondering if there is an opportunity for it to be promoted to the standard support phase. Additionally, I would greatly appreciate having a compiled version of Ubuntu Server. Is there anyone willing to help with this? Thank you very much.

I finally assembled my Helios 64 today. Went well, just took a while. I'm reading the Kobol Wiki page for installing the OS on the internal EMMC and am a bit confused. Hoping someone can point me in the right direction. I usually boot a SBC the first time from an SD card to do some testing. Then I'll use Armbian config to install the OS onto the EMMC when I am ready. The Kobol Wiki talks about first installing uboot from an SD card. Is that actually needed? Also, do I really need to set up a serial terminal session? I usually just SSH into the box (I know find the IP address via my DHCP server) and configure everything from there.

  36. I have installed OMV via armbian-config (software). After that I tried to install Nextcloud the same way. In the process I noticed that Apache2 does not start due to a port mismatch (port 80). I was able to determine that obviously the web server nginx is already installed and used for OMV. Can someone please explain to me if this is intentional or if I made a mistake during the installation? Is it possible not to install OMV and Nextcloud in parallel? How can I solve this?

There are several questions on the topic: Between the moment of transfer of control to the kernel from the u-boot and the moment of start of the kernel operation it takes 1.5 -2 minutes. I assume that during this period of time there is decompression of the code and placement in memory. But why so long? The 4.4.x kernel starts instantly. When I first turned on a nanopc-t4 with a 5.x.x (4.20) kernel, I already thought the kernel was corrupted. And quite accidentally waited for the green LED to blink. Why is there still no sound in fdt for nanopc-t4? I corrected fdt, but I can 't put it in kernel.org. It is possible that my patch goes against the established str…
