Hello, I am trying to have a graphical login screen for my orange pi zero 3 with ili9488 LCD screen. A problem I have is that X11 can't start with the LCD driver... so I need to stay 100% wayland. I was able to compile and run labwc with these instructions: https://forum.armbian.com/topic/53797-labwc-wayland-crashes-on-exit/#findComment-223267 Labwc runs well on a HDMI screen and in the small ili9488 screen Next, I found this graphical login, which is made to install on top of lightdm: https://github.com/raspberrypi-ui/pi-greeter/tree/master Compilation rerequisites: sudo apt install gobject-introspection libgtk-…

I take regular backups from my linux boxes (rsyncing the file system). To resume, I boot from usb, copy the files to the disk of the box and then make it bootable by chrooting into the box and executing grub-install or update-grub. That works fine. But how can I do this on my odroid hc2 running armbian/bullseye? I cannot boot from usb. So I need to make the sd card bootable on my debian-amd64 pc after copying the files on it. Is there some command like "update-uboot" I can execute on amd64? Or do I need a virtual host running arm architecture to do so? Jüregen

Hej, Microsoft has recently announced a new release of the dotnet version 7. I just wanted to guide how to get it running on armbian. It is actually pretty straightforward and takes only few steps. if you have any previously installed dotnet runtime - rm it. So I need to know what I have to do to get MIDI messages into my music app that I'm working on. I developed a cli synth app on Manjaro using SDL3 and Jack. Jack I used to connect to MIDI aka 'MIDI-Bridge' or MIDI Through and an external program to produce MIDI messages sent to MIDI Through. I am currently trying to do the same on the actual device I wish to use which is the OrangePi 4 LTS I have spare with just bare bones Armbian Server, no desktop. I have audio working through Pipewire. I am used to Jack just being available because Pipewire intercepts and handles the calls behind the scenes. I noticed that on Armbian I think I have to use the 'pw-jack' program or jack-p…

Hardware video decode in "Google Chrome". I will start this out with "It flickers on a 16GB board. I can use it to play High Resolution YouTube Videos." YMMV! Test Note: I run it at 4k@120hz on my Pi-Desktop build. # HOW-TO: Hardware video decode in Google Chrome on RK3588 (Orange Pi 5B / Ubuntu-rockchip BSP) This gets Google Chrome to decode video on the RK3588 hardware VPU (via VA-API) instead of grinding it out on the CPU. Result: smooth 1080p and 4K playback with the CPU nearly idle. Codecs that decode in hardware: H.264, HEVC, VP8, VP9. (No AV1 - see Problems and Fixes.) As a bonus, the same driver also gives Firefox hardware decode. …

Just did a fresh install of latest Ubuntu 26.04 Gnome build on a Pine Quartz64 A board. After an `apt update` running `apt upgrade` tries to update the `linux-libc-dev` package, which is downloaded from `ports.ubuntu.com`. However it consistently fails with a 404. Digging around a little, it seems like this package should match the kernel that's in use, so is the underlying problem that `apt` is trying to download it from the ubuntu repo instead of the armbian one where the kernel package comes from? I have not modified any apt configuration since installing.

2 Claudes 5 Agents, diff'ing, searching and boom we found it. "A subtle bug the vendor introduced and nobody upstream has fixed, in code you already live in. The RK3588 VOP2 port copied RK3568's layer-latch mechanism but dropped the one wait that makes it work — and mainline sidesteps the whole thing in hardware, so no one's ever going to fix it in the BSP but you. Be honest on confidence: the code defect is register-confirmed (high); that it's the flicker rests on the mutter-direct-scanout inference (medium) — which is exactly what the MUTTER_DEBUG=disable-direct-scanout test nails in two minutes." HW Acceleration came back, Address bars and Search bars se…

Can you include the wireguard module in the kernel, please? It's missing from Armbian 23.05.0-trunk Bullseye with Linux 5.4.239-odroidxu4. This is a required module for the Openmediavault Wireguard Plugin to install correctly (using OMV 6.4.9-1 (Shaitan)) However I'm told that omv 6 requires Debian 11 Bullseye so, if there's an existing Armbian build with it, can you let me know, please?

Installed 24.8.4 on OrangePi Zero2. Assumed I would need to install neofetch to launch it, so didn't even try to run it before going straight to 'apt install neofetch'. On attempting to install, I saw the following: Reason is that armbian-config package includes /usr/bin/neofetch. To avoid confusion for new users, it seems like it would be good to either have armbian-config depend on neofetch instead of including the bash script that that package includes*, or have the Package file for armbian-config lock out the installation of neofetch (I think the Provides, Replaces, and Conflicts directives might be needed for that). I had a look around the https:/…

Hi all, I'm quite puzzled by this. I installed iptables-persistent to be able to restore the iptables rules at start-up. Saved the rules to /etc/iptables/rules.v4 / /etc/iptables/rules.v6, then rebooted. But after boot, the iptables are empty. I read about Debian/Ubuntu, that — as the Armbian — in general have all sorts of UTF-8 locales installed by default, it is possible to generate ISO8859-2 locales anyway by using a 'locale-gen' tool (found such suggestion here ). But there isn't locale-gen in Armbian, it seems (Armbian v25.2.2). Can it be installed from some repo, or maybe it's possible to generate ISO8859-2 locales some alternative way? If so — how do i do that?

Armbian uses Netplan by default to manage network settings. But when it uses NetworkManager as renderer, it silently changes iptables rules—without asking, without telling. *Neither Netplan nor NetworkManager are supposed to manage firewall settings.* But they do it anyway, behind the scenes. That kind of behavior—making security changes without user consent—feels a lot like what malware does.

I just bought this PINE64 board. I flashed the ARMbian GNOME Desktop OS image into an SD card, in order to boot into the board. I already tried to set up an OpenVPN server using this guide (tested with another Ubuntu machine, it worked) but for some reason this does not work using the PINE64 board. All the steps seems to complete successful and the VPN server seems to be up and running, passed the ovpn file to the client user but when the user try to connect to the VPN network the log messages from the VPN client always said "Server poll timeout..." and, of course, the connection never happen. Which could be the problem? Am I missing something for this set up ?

OK, so it actually was cold in FL for a couple weeks and I did a power hack. I ported Java UIO to Java UIO 2. Java UIO (HawtJNI) This was the "Old School" high-performance approach. It relied on a custom C wrapper and JNI to bridge the gap. How it works: You have to write a C helper file, compile it into a shared library (.so) for on ARM architecture (armv7l, aarch64), and bundle it in your JAR. The Overhead: Every call from Java to C has a "JNI transition cost." To minimize this, you used moveJavaToNative to bulk-transfer buffers, which added complexity to the Java code. Java UIO 2 (FFM / Project Panama) T…

https://github.com/sgjava/javauio2 Java UIO 2 is the next-generation evolution of the Java UIO project, rebuilt from the ground up to leverage the Foreign Function & Memory API (FFM). By moving beyond traditional JNI, Java UIO 2 achieves unprecedented performance and hardware-level accuracy for Linux Userspace IO. Engineered for JDK 25, it provides a cutting-edge cross-platform solution for modern embedded systems. You will see a huge improvement in performance on 64 bit systems, but I've also included a script to build ARM 32 JDK 25 with FFM which currently doesn't exist. https://github.com/sgjava/javauio2#arm32-support--modern-ffm-back-to-the…

Hi all, I decided today to give an Armbian build a whirl as a virtual machine (guest). In particular, Armbian_24.2.4_Uefi-x86_jammy_current_6.6.21_kde-neon_desktop.img. As is usual with installing a virtual machine, it comes up with a default video resolution of 1024x768; I can usually quickly get it full screen on my system as 1920x1080 by going to the System Settings : Hardware : Display and Monitor : etc. However, here there is no hardware subsection at all, and a search didn't turn up a setting to change the display. Any advice on where to find it? I installed the spice guest driver and related packages on the guest. …

Hi, i have some difficulties to add some boot parameters to the kernel. From what i read, the most safe procedure is to use the armbian-config tool, that will add the parameters to /boot/armbianEnv.txt file. Working on making klipper, a 3d printiing util like Marlin , work on a bpi5 running armbian, fully updated Since the last update a day back, make has been broken. I think its now expecting windows line endings, which it won't find on a linux system. The error message is consistent: gene@bpi51:~/src/klipper$ make /home/gene/src/klipper/.config:13: *** missing separator. Stop. Line 13 is the first non-comment line in the file. The file uses $0A only as linefeeds, no CR's exist in it. The klipper Makefile uses file ".config" as its src of instructions: A head -14 of that file: gene@bpi51:~/src/klipper$ head -14 .config # This file contain…

I've been using Armbian for developing an image for running on some custom hardware based on an Allwinner S3 (SoC with a single arm v7 core and 128mb ram) and it has been really helpful. My system now runs the software it was built for, and i love having complete Debian for development, maintenance and debugging. However I would like to have the option of making the system more like an embedded system most of the time : for most of its life it's running a custom application that gets video from a camera, h264 encodes it and sends it and some other data out over a data link. When it's in this mode it would be great if it was more like a buildroot type syst…

I have an OrangePi PC with armbian installed on it. Today, probably because of my stupidity, the board couldn't boot after upgrading a bunch of stuff. When I opened the sd card on my pc, I found that there were no kernel files in /boot and there were broken symlinks. I tried to replace these with the files from the current minimal image armbian is available for the board, but encountered a UUID mismatch. I then used files from a september 2021 backup, which did allow me to boot into a functional system. It had Linux 5.10.43-sunxi. But before my attempts to fix the issue, my system had Linux 6.1.11-sunxi installed, so I am concerned about this mismatch and would like to sa…

Hi, i'm Alexandre and I use Armbian on cubox as a multimedia NAS, but now I seem to understand that the cubox is getting too old and the support is almost discontinued... So I would like to migrate my nas with all data and web servers to a raspberry. It's possible? If yes, how can I make it? Thanks a lot!

I installed minidlna on a Linux Orange Pi PC 6.12.23-current-sunxi and also on an Orange Pi Zero, but it doesn't work; it doesn't appear in the client, on an LG Smart TV. On a Raspberry Pi, it does work; the configuration files are the same, and there are no network rules blocking any traffic... Any ideas what it could be?

armbian-bsp-cli-odroidc2_24.2.1_arm64__1-PC13d1-Vf2bb-H02fb-Ba537-R6632.deb is available in the package list but the actual .deb file is missing on the server, which causes apt upgrade to fail with HTTP 404. This happens to lots of mirrors.

Hello, I am having a lot of fun making my first apps with python and tkinter... and with my recent good experiences with LCD TFT displays, I want to create an "appliance" project. I can start non-GUI apps with systemctl service files, and they run with the proper user permissions... and I don't worry about giving it root access. But I would like to do the same with GUI apps. They would be full screen, 320x240 on the LCD TFT. All I can do now is: * start with armbian minimal (with orange pi zero in my case) * add the DTS for LCD and touch, and the ko for spi-gpio (as seen in my threads in the orangepi zero section) …

Getting an external IP address over network request as part of MOTD info is completle ruined ssh session start when board cant connect to desired server to get this address. It's get_wan_address function inside https://github.com/armbian/build/blob/main/packages/bsp/common/etc/update-motd.d/30-armbian-sysinfo . You can easy check this just by disable access to internet on you router and try to open new ssh session. After i mask this function call all worked well. Unfortunately i cant figure out how to send issue on GitHub due to redirect to some Google form, so there am i.

I'm trying to run Armbian on my Rock 5B by booting off an SD card and having root on NVMe. Here's what I've done: First, on another Linux system: Create a gpt partition table on the NVMe. Allocate 256 MB for a /boot (one of these days, booting from NVMe will settle down, but for now...) Allocate the remainder of the NVMe to /. Use dd to copy the filesystem from the SD card to the NVME's root partition. Use gparted to change the UUID of the NVME root and expand the filesystem to use the available space. Alter the armbianEnv.txt file to point to the NVME's UUID. Install the SD and NVMe cards on the Rock. When I boot the Rock, i…

As configured on install (at least in 24.8.4 I installed), the netplan config files try to manage all networking interfaces - which breaks the virtual bridge interfaces that containers and VM managers like Podman, Docket, etc create and use. See https://github.com/moby/moby/issues/40217#issuecomment-2041628162 for more information If networkctl shows podman* or veth* as managed then this is probably the problem breaking your container networking. To work around this issue, I modified the file /etc/netplan/10-dhcp-all-interfaces.yaml to only manage en* interfaces rather than all interfaces, followed by netplan apply. # Added by…

Hi! I am using the as of this date latest armbian image Armbian 22.11 Jammy, Kernel 5.15.y, Size: 495Mb, CLI, Release date: Nov 30, 2022 for my board: https://www.armbian.com/rock64/ I am not sure if this is specifically an issue with the CLI image, or if both images are affected. I am not using a GUI. I configured a static IP address via netplan (generated and applied the config) and installed a dhcp server. The dhcp server sometimes kept failing to start on reboot. Checking the logs showed that even though the isc-dhcp-server depends on the network being configured before it tries to start, that actually systemd sometimes starts isc-dhcp-server b…

Hi Unfortunately, I use an Odroid N2 (and N2+) for nextcloud installed via the nextcloudpi script. Hello, I’m facing yet another strange problem, and I am posting it here as well, because I think it could be OS related. Hi Members, I'm setting and reading the GPIO PINs for different BPI's frequently only by bash by maintaining the /sys/class/gpio/xxx values. The only problem is that all these files belong to root :root and I have to use the sudo command in my scripts. I've read about putting a non root user to the gpio group will fix that. But on Armbian there is no "gpio" group ;( That seems the reason why the directory /sys/class/gpio is not prepared as root:gpio Please has someone an idea when this will be implemented? Hello, I have an odroid hc4 which I am mainly using as a home NAS. I chose Armbian + OMV (headless) and it works really well. Now I tried using it as a media center at the same time with kodi. I tried both the "old" kodi version from the debian repos and also the flatpak version. For both it seems like the hardware acceleration isn't working.
