I normally like building server images because they are small and fast to compile. An then I can add the wanted desktop by "sudo apt install gnome" or other desktop later. But, sometimes I wonder if the desktop images have more features, like hardware drivers, than a server image with an added desktop afterwards. Can this be the case? Or does server images contain the same drivers and hardware support as a image built with a destop included?

  2. I installed Waydroid on an Amlogic Meson GXM (S912) TV box. The SOC has a Mali-T820 GPU, and the box has 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of eMMC. This was easy to do and Waydroid worked, but it was very slow, even before it heated the SOC to 80°C, which is probably its throttling limit. I removed Waydroid because it was too slow. I wasn't trying anything demanding. Even navigating Android Settings was ridiculously slow. This is a bit surprising because the hardware was designed for running Android. I was not running much else, just Wayfire and one or two Alacritty consoles. I don't think I was running out of memory. Is it possible to get decent Waydroid performance on o…

Hi Members, I'm setting and reading the GPIO PINs for different BPI's frequently only by bash by maintaining the /sys/class/gpio/xxx values. The only problem is that all these files belong to root :root and I have to use the sudo command in my scripts. I've read about putting a non root user to the gpio group will fix that. But on Armbian there is no "gpio" group ;( That seems the reason why the directory /sys/class/gpio is not prepared as root:gpio Please has someone an idea when this will be implemented? Regards wollik

Hello to all, In order to be able to export GPIO 414 to turn off USB-Power I wanted to unbind the USB drivers: andreas@odroidc4:~$ lsusb -t /: Bus 02.Port 1: Dev 1, Class=root_hub, Driver=xhci-hcd/1p, 5000M |__ Port 1: Dev 2, If 0, Class=Hub, Driver=hub/4p, 5000M /: Bus 01.Port 1: Dev 1, Class=root_hub, Driver=xhci-hcd/2p, 480M |__ Port 1: Dev 3, If 0, Class=Hub, Driver=hub/4p, 480M Both drivers, "xhci-hcd" and "hub" are built into the kernel. The "hub" driver exposes "bind" and "unbind" in /sys/bus/usb/drivers/hub, so no problem. But the driver "xhci-hcd" has no /sys/bus/usb/drivers/xhci-hcd directory. So I cannot unbind it. …

I'm using Bluetouch in my iPhone as a bluetooth mouse (rarely when needed) for my OrangePi/Armbian/Kodi setup. All fine with that… except… with my iPhone paired to the OrangePi, it also connects all its audio to the OrangePi, *all the time* when in range, unless I completely disable bluetooth from the iPhone. According to the only instructions I've found, I've tried setting [General] Enable= in `/etc/bluetooth/main.conf`, and restarting the bluetooth service, but the only effect this has is that there's no audible output. The phone still connects its audio to the box, just with no audible output. How to completely disable Armbian from advert…

  18. As configured on install (at least in 24.8.4 I installed), the netplan config files try to manage all networking interfaces - which breaks the virtual bridge interfaces that containers and VM managers like Podman, Docket, etc create and use. See https://github.com/moby/moby/issues/40217#issuecomment-2041628162 for more information If networkctl shows podman* or veth* as managed then this is probably the problem breaking your container networking. To work around this issue, I modified the file /etc/netplan/10-dhcp-all-interfaces.yaml to only manage en* interfaces rather than all interfaces, followed by netplan apply. # Added by…

Hi! I'm new in the forum, so I don't know if this is a bug or just a feature request. The idea is `armbian-upgrade` also runs dkms install, you know, like Ubuntu, so the zfs kernel module will be automatically building together with the kernel upgrade. Please, let me hear your thoughts about this. Maybe there is a flag to enable this already, or an open bug to implement the feature.

  21. Hello, I downloaded recent Armbian image for Orange Pi PC Plus - 23.05.1. When I run it, the screen resolution is 720x576 and virtual resolution 1024x768. I changed armbianEnv.txt - defined disp_mode=1280x800p60 (this is what I need) and also used fbset command in my application and it works in most cases, but sometimes after system restart the screen resolution is the default (720x576) and can't be changed - I get error - "ioctl FBIOPUT_VSCREENINFO: Invalid argument". How can this be fixed? Thanks in advance.

  29. Hello Armbian community I am a bit confused - I only see images labeled for Raspberry Pi 4 in the Raspberry Pi section of the Armbian website. However, I have seen several videos (like the demo by NicoD) showing Armbian Jammy with KDE Neon running smoothly on Raspberry Pi 5. Are the images for Pi 5B hidden or moved? I've tried to use "userpatches/linux-$LINUXFAMILY-$BRANCH.config" config from armbian manual, to specify path to kernel, but despite the fact that manual states, that my custom config should replace the default one, ./compile.sh ignores it. So what am i doing wrong and is it even possible nowadays to assebmle the image using local kernel or it is already restricted?

The whole SBC paradigm revolves around accessing GPIO either as Inputs, Outputs, UARTs, SPI or I2C. 54. I need to install some stuff on armbian system, which is installed on SD card and it runs on Orangepi PC board. It includes some sripts, Python libraries, etc and some of them require to be compiled on the fly, and it takes several hours when running on Orange PI. So my idea is to mount SD card on PC and run/chroot into installed system with qemu on Linux. So I will get much better performance and all neccesary steps will be performed much faster. Is it even possible to do that? After installation finishes, SD card will be again used to operate on OrangePI PC board.

I've been using Armbian for developing an image for running on some custom hardware based on an Allwinner S3 (SoC with a single arm v7 core and 128mb ram) and it has been really helpful. My system now runs the software it was built for, and i love having complete Debian for development, maintenance and debugging. However I would like to have the option of making the system more like an embedded system most of the time : for most of its life it's running a custom application that gets video from a camera, h264 encodes it and sends it and some other data out over a data link. When it's in this mode it would be great if it was more like a buildroot type syst…

  56. Hello everyone, I'm currently working on a custom firmware project for the Allwinner V851S/V851SS SoC (e.g., dash cam or smart camera). I've reached the stage where I need to modify and re-sign the firmware images (TOC0/TOC1) for use with tools like PhoenixCard. Unfortunately, the tools found on GitHub (e.g., dragonsecboot, pack_tools, boot0, etc.) are often incomplete or fail to build due to missing references (e.g., rsa_sign_main, GetFullPath, etc.). 🔍 I'm looking for a complete and working version of the following tools: dragonsecboot pack boot0 sunxi_tools Full config files such as dragon_toc.cfg, sys_config.fex Working pac…

The problem is the package `zfs-zed` isn't available, so I got serious problems during the update (I run Openmediavault, btw). Any tips if it's a mistake and the package should be included, or `zfs-zed` is deprecated and I need to talk with OMV team to remove this dependency?

The official Orange Pi kernel version (Orangepizero3_1.0.4_debian_bookworm_desktop_xfce_linux6.1.31) does not have this problem and runs automatically. There seems to be only one seeder and just as I was typing this post, I got to download over a gigabyte of the Rockpro64 image but it's still not finished. It seems the seeder (?) was online for a moment but then seeding stopped. So if there's something someone can do, much appreciated!

I read about Debian/Ubuntu, that — as the Armbian — in general have all sorts of UTF-8 locales installed by default, it is possible to generate ISO8859-2 locales anyway by using a 'locale-gen' tool (found such suggestion here ).
