This mini-tutorial is for those interested in running OpenGL applications and games on OpenGL ES. Most (maybe all?) SoCs around support OpenGL ES, which is almost a stripped down version of OpenGL. OpenGL ES is mainly used by smartphone apps, but on Linux and generally on desktop computer OpenGL clients are the most common. This tutorial is very simple and will teach you on how to download and compile GL4ES (github: https://github.com/ptitSeb/gl4es), a nice piece of software that converts most OpenGL calls into OpenGL ES counterparts to achieve some degree of compatibility and let your apps run on our SoCs. The target of this tutorial is the Rockchip RK3288 SoC …

  12. For the last few years I have been working on some hardware projects based on ARM SBCs. Every board I work with seems to have different kernel/overlay/GPIO/etc issues. So my question is - Which SBC, or chipset, has most complete and stable Armbian support? In other words if you had to pick a board to go into battle to run Armbian, without knowing any specific requirements, which SBC would it be?

Anyone here does have experience with video acceleration on SBCs using media servers like plex, emby, jellyfin or whatever they all may called and if so which board, which kernel and how well do things work? I'm using an ADAFRUIT Industries 954 USB-to-TTL serial cable. The NanoPC-T4 pin spec indicates SPI1_TXD/UART4_TX(3V) as pin 19, GND as pin 20, and SPI1_RXD/UART4_RX(3V) as pin 21. I have hooked up my ADAFRUIT accordingly with the white receptacle (RX) to pin 19, the black receptacle (GND) to pin 20, and the green receptacle (TX) to pin 21. 22. OK, playing around with NanoPi Duo (H2+) to see what kind of performance boost I can get using MMIO (/dev/mem) instead of gpiod (forget sysfs) and it was pretty impressive. I used pre-calculated offset to run a square wave (rapid on/off) on pin 203 IOG11 and I hit ~3.8 MHz compared to ~500 KHz using gpiod. You can take a peek at the source at https://github.com/sgjava/java-periphery/blob/master/src/main/java/com/codeferm/periphery/demo/MmioTest.java. So the idea is how to make this generic with boards with multiple GPIO chips and different register configurations. The cool thing is the underlying MMIO stuff is kernel cross platform. Any ways I've been thinking about this …

  32. Hi, I just got 2 of these. Everything is fine but you need to order power adapter 12V 2A with 3.5mm x 1.35mm connector. Unfortunately due to earlier version of BIOS compare to same looking GeoBook 1E but with dualcore Celeron N4020 it cannot boot from microSD card. Speakers are rubbish but it could be good for some low powered machine projects. And one advice. Do not change "Quick boot" option in BIOS setting or it will not boot and you will need to unplug battery to reset BIOS. It work with both Windows 11 or Linux with no extra drivers mods needed. 5Ghz wifi and bluetooth also included. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/166222480445

I'm experience a really weird problem on a very experimental setup: the system is an Armbian build for an unsupported board (Rockchip RK322x) and Ubuntu Focal 20.04 with mainline kernel 5.6.4. The system has issues to boot when enters into systemd: it is slow but all of sudden it goes farther. Many different systemd services are complaining, expecially the journal and the chrony NTP client. Finally I found that the root of the problems is the system time which is abruptly moving back and forth even by months. Subsequent calls to date may report 20 June, then 4 March, then 18 August and so on... The kernel log is fine and, most of all, the very…

  53. Hi Armbians As the title already says, I would like to know what the best 5V SBC`s are to be used as network relay? The board should have a minimum of 1,5 GB RAM and it should be able to handle about (or even more then) 50 MBit/s synchronous network bandwidth by ethernet plug 24/7. My standart board for this use is the Cubietruck/ Cubieboard3. But this one is only able to handle traffic about the 25 MBit/s range. Same for Banana Pro by Lemaker. It can handle a little bit more then the CT, but not that much. I also have a Khadas VIM Pro (V1) and a Hummingboard by SolidRun avaliable but never tested them for this szenario. Maybe ther…

Greetings, colleagues! When I connect a Wi-Fi USB adapter, the system assigns it a terrible interface name! I'm used to the fact that a well-bred Linux gives them names like wlan0, wlan1, etc... Armbian gives the name according to the following scheme: "wlx<MAC-ADDRESS>"! It is very uncomfortable! How I can persuade him to give names according to the traditional scheme? I am grateful for the answers on the essence of the question, Ogogon.

At a first glance NanoPi Duo looks like a combination of Lichee Pi Zero (form, idea) and Orange Pi Zero (ingredients: H2+ and XR819 Wi-Fi). But once combined with the Mini Shield (RPi form factor -- connector and mounting hole positions), USB hub to provide 4 USB2 ports, Fast Ethernet exposed and a short mSATA slot behind a JMS567 USB-to-SATA bridge) it starts to get interesting. 62. Hello Armbian community, Here is a project of adjusting the Kobol Helios4 case for a Raspberry Pi 3B and either 2.5" or 3.5" HDD, as well as a 92mm FAN and a USB hub. This is my first SketchUp project (I've used the 2016 trial version). The Raspberry Pi will be screwed in the bottom and powered through the micro usb. That's why I've left more room on that side. We can fit either 4x2.5" or 3x3.5" at any "deep" level. I've left room for a USB hub because I want to reuse my existing spare one. We can maybe come with a better idea, more universal (eg. dual output 12v and 5v of at least 90w, or a Molex fanless PSU unit. The latter would b…

The Z80-MBC2 is powered and accessable via a USB-TTL-serial-adapter (configured to 5V - not 3.3V) type CP2102 seen as /dev/ttyUSB0 The easy way would be to connect the USB-adapter to a Pi-style computer wth armbian, login via SSH and start minicom for the port. Hello, I am looking for one board in order to build one NAS. I already have one bananapi pro, I am happy with it, the hardware used to be quite better than raspi boards, but it does not seem to still be marketed. It is just a matter of plugging a 2.5" hard drive on it (usb or sata). So the board would require : - be cheap - credit card format - not interested in video performances - the usb and ethernet not built on the same bus (this is why I say bananapi pro is way better than raspi boards) - can be cooled silently - one sata port - good support from armbian (not talking about video) …

Hi there, I noticed that current Raspbian distributions use an extra group called "gpio" for /dev/sys/gpio access. Somewhere I read that this coud be accomplished via udev but I also read that /sys is not affected by udev (only /dev). Anyhow, what can I do to permanently set gpio permissions to a group e.g. "gpio"? Would it be of general interest to include this in Armbian?

Hi all. I've just finished a new video where I polish the heatsink of my Rock Pi X with sandpaper. This because there's a rather thick powdercoating on the heatsink in the spot where it makes contact with the SoC. This caused a lot of thermal resistance. The SoC would get hot and overheat, while the heatsink didn't warm up. And the top of the board was the hottest spot. Here my video. On the NanoPi M4 and M4V2 there was a thermal pad included. This also was pretty bad. I raplaced those with a copper shim and some thermal paste and improved the thermals by about 10C. If you like to use your board passively cooled it can be important to look f…

I'd like to (try to) use it as a *very* low cost ADS-B receiver using an external RTL-SDR dongle, but despite the fact that the port is claimed to be a 2.0 (and recognized by the OS as a 2.0 Hub) when I attach the dongle (which is a high speed 2.0) no driver are loaded and is instead recognized as a full speed device, therefore the RTL-SDR library stops working with transfer errors, since it needs the 480M transfer speed of the 2.0 port and is unable to work with the 12M speed of the "full" standard. 82. I'm looking at the NanoPi R1S, R1, or Orange Pi R1 as a simple bridge device for Zerotier. They all seem to have some limitations that likely mean ~100Mbps either from the 100M ports or the R1S' USB2 connected port so that's fine. I'm most drawn to the R1S for price and included case. Questions are: 1) Are these the only decent <=$30 devices for this task? 2) Is one of these known to be more stable/reliable? 3) Is there a likely software support issue with any of them? The deployment model is pretty simple. Plug WAN in to and DHCP port, have the firewall locked down tight, and bridge a ZT network into the LAN port.

  85. Hi, Is there any plan fro Armbian to support Rockchip processors like RK3288 or RK3399? Any guide on how to port Armbian on them? These processors have official support on GPU (both openCL and openGL ES), HW video codec (like H264 encoding and decoding with gstream), and also open-sourced Kernel 4.4.x. And most important thing is they are willing to support opensource community and fix their bugs continuously. Soft requirements is to have also an HTML5 embeddable stream to use in a web application without needing a plugin.
