Hello, I am going to start looking into running Docker on OPi +2E soon, but before I get stuck in details I would like to know whether other people have had experience with it..? In particular, I would like to know what to expect when trying to run Docker on an OPi +2E. Having a report from prior experience would be helpful. As far as I understand, Docker is still in pretty much experimental stages on ARM. Kind regards, @ullbeking

Hello, What kind of speed can I expect from the ethernet on the BPM1? hi all, I've been running into an issue where the kernel starts throwing error messages (https://pastebin.com/bmPJPeq0), the board becomes very slow and the cpu load goes to 11 and stays there. This seems to happen when I change the CPU freq using armbian-config to anything lower than 528MHz. Any ideas how I could resolve this?

I'm using g_ether to connect OrangePiPc+ to network over USB OTG. On legacy kernel, that was giving 140 Mbits/sec IN (download from network to OrangePiPc+) and 170 Mbits/sec OUT. After upgrading to mainline kernel 4.19.62 (or 5.3.9), IN throughput degraded to 93-98 Mbits/sec (while OUT improved reaching up to 210 Mbits/sec in CDC EEM mode). This easily reproducible on both my boards OrangePiPc+ and OrangePiZero with latest Bionic images (clean installations + "modprobe g_ether iProduct="Linux-USB Ethernet/RNDIS Gadget" iManufacturer="Netchip Technology, Inc." dev_addr=02:81:05:F0:5C:24 host_addr=02:81:05:F0:5C:23 use_eem=0" ). Hi all! First time poster, i apologize in advance for any etiquette violations... I have an OrangePi Zero H2+ board and the DS18B20 sensor (waterproof version). I have soldered the pullup resistor between power and data cables. I have Armbian Stretch 5.83 with 4.19.38-sunxi kernel. I have enabled the w1-gpio overlay and loaded the w1-therm driver. Data is on PD14 (GPIO 10), power is on 5v (tried also on 3.3v) I can see this in my dmesg: [ 10.371825] w1_master_driver w1_bus_master1: w1_search: max_slave_count 64 reached, will continue next search. Hello guys, I am experiencing such a problem: When I boot my orangepi it starts and it is visible in the router's page view getting IP with dhcp. As soon as I connect over ssh (at least this is the way to trigger it, not sure if it is hapening automatically after a while), the device disappears from the network and it is no more available! I have seen this behaviour happening on 2 different routers. Then I rebooted the device again and in the router config I put the same IP statically linked to the device and I tried to connect over ssh and it worked without disappearing anymore. So it sounds like a bug somewhere using dhcp protocol. Is som…

Hello, I've just found a topic about removing Allwinner legacy. I work with Orange Pi PC Plus board, H3 CPU. Do I understand correctly that the option to build system based on old v.3.4 kernel will be removed? Once I experienced a problem with system shutdown using newer kernel - got System halted message. This is why I decided to continue with legacy kernel. Please advise.

Hi, I have a problem with an OrangePi that I have set up to host Octoprint for my 3d printer. It connects to the wifi just fine(receives wifi IP and I can ping e.g. google.com), but this is all checked through a serial interface, because I can not connect via my network(through SSH) and I can not see the webserver that Octoprint should host. I can't even ping the OrangePi from my computer. What solves the problem for me is to ping my computer from the OrangePi(via serial console). First then I can connect via SSH and see the web page or ping the OrangePi from my computer. If I plug in ethernet to the OrangePi, there is no problem. I have searched …

Hello there, I tried to use on OPC3 bionic the ttyS1 for communcation with a serial device and didn't get it to work. ttyS3 works fine. Configuration is done for both. But now I need to communicate with a second and possibly a third serial device. So I hoped for updates. But now I can't find a download of the bionic version and i have to make decision how to go further on. Does it make sense to switch to buster or stretch? Is bionic only temporarily or finally offline? Whats the reason? Any idea when there is a chance to get a stable release. Possibly with 6 Months or surely not within 6 months. Hi, Using the latest Armbian release (19.11.3) on OPi Zero (512MB, board revision 1.5) I have a strange issue. On kernel 5.3.x, Ethernet connectivity drops sporadically, around once every couple of minutes, for typically 10 seconds or so and then recovers. When the drop happens, a ping from another machine on the network produces 'no route to host' - then after around 10 seconds or so the network comes back up. The OPi Zero continues running normally during the 'outage', without functional network access. There is nothing in the dmesg log when this happens. Switching to kernel 4.19.62 from armbian-config, everything works perfectly. Back to 5.3.x, the iss…

I'm using Armbian_19.11.3_Orangepizero_buster_current_5.3.9 However, I keep having problems with locales, such as : Warning: Invalid locale (please review locale settings, this might lead to problems later): locale::facet::_S_create_c_locale name not valid How can I fix it ? Hello, I've been working with my Banana Pro since years with Bananian. Last days I formatted the SD and installed Armbian (debian), to be used in headless mode. Installation and system setup worked as expected, I modified eth0 setup for static IP and it went fine after reboot. A strange problem appeared when I installed transmission-daemon, minidlna and samba packages. All working fine before reboot, but thereafter any network interface is disappeared, network-manager can't execute fine, remains running for several seconds then something crashes. If I configure eth0 manually network works, so no hardware problem. I'm sure the board work…

I have tested Armbian_19.11.3_Orangepipc2_bionic_current_5.3.9 and Armbian_19.11.3_Orangepipc2_buster_current_5.3.9 images from the official download site. The Debian Buster image is fast and stable. The Ubuntu Bionic build have random hangs on different boot positions. Sometimes works, but after reboot it hangs again randomly. I have burned the the images to the same microsd card. (Toshiba 32GB) I have tested with other microsd cards like Sandisk Extreme 32GB, Samsung EVO+ 32GB. I have the same results. The power supply is enough for the board. (5V 4A) This is not my first orangepi board, so I know how to burn the images to the sdcards. screenlog.bionic.0 (problems)…

I have a board of Orange Pi One Plus with installed pihole (https://pi-hole.net/). Armbian image is Armbian Buster with latest updates. PRETTY_NAME="Debian GNU/Linux 10 (buster)" Each 2-4 hours the device hangs and not able to respond to any command until I reboot it. The max uptime that I was able to gain was ~25 hours. I've changed power adapters, powered it via microUSB - same result. Looking at the logs I really have no clue why it stucks. Attaching debug, kern and syslog. Probably someone may pinpoint what's going on. P.S. Previous OPi One (not Plus) worked for that purpose like a charm. Didn't know that bying Opi One+ for upgrade will buy me loos…

Hi, I have two questions: 1. Where can I download the latest image for my board? rom this forum entry I see there is no armbian image for the first Orange Pi? The link https://www.armbian.com/orange-pi/ doesn't work, as it redirects to https://www.armbian.com/orange-pi-plus/ which is definetly not the same (A20<>H3) 2. After doing a 'firmware upgrade' from armbian-config, it identifies itself as a Banana-pi. Is it normal? The MOTD is BPi and armbian-config shows BananaPi as well.

(picture courtesy @renaudrenaud) We spotted a new OPi Zero variant with one USB-A receptacle missing and replaced by a second RJ45 jack a while ago (in this report where a lot of 'information' seems a bit questionable to me) Today @Icenowy confirmed existence of this board since Xunlong announced it in a chat group. I believe this is somewhat related to recently available Orange Pi Zero Plus since by looking at the picture we can see behind both Ethernet MagJacks small packages. My bet is we're talking here about RTL8211E (Gigabit Ethernet PHY connected via RGMII to the SoC) and RTL8153 (Gigabit Ethernet MAC/PHY USB2 Hi-Speed attached to the SoC). …

I've been happily running orangepipc with armbian (buster, 4.19.62-sunxi) as an openvpn gateway for my home devices for some time. Here are some details: I have a remote openvpn server the pi runs an openvpn client and connects to the server the pi has ipv4 packets forwarding enabled my wifi router provides the pi's ip as the default gateway via dhcp So when I connect to wifi with my phone, all phone traffic will be routed through the remote openvpn server without need to install the openvpn client on the phone itself. With this setup the pi can easily saturate my 30mbit cable connection when downloading torrents for e…

New toys to play The NanoPi Neo Core and Core2 are the Core-PCB without Connectors. Only Pin-holes in 2.54mm Pitch. But as the Pictures did show - there will be a Docking-Board like on the NanoPi Duo The price for the normal NanoPi Neo jumps from $7,99 to $9,99 and the new Neo Core now costs $7,99 (256MB and no eMMC) BUT has optional - also like the Neo Core2 (here 8GB default) - 8GB eMMC (512MB and 8GB eMMC = +$10 on the $7,99 Neo Core) The Neo Core2 does cost $24,99 but do have 1GB of Ram and (default) 8GB of eMMC (more options later). About 3 months ago i bought the Orange PI Zero Plus Orange Pi Zero Plus I installed Armbian Stretch and started playing around. I noticed that it got up to 71c which was to much so i shut it down and went on the net to buy some 5v fans to cool it. A month ago I received the first fans and noticed now that Armbian Buster had arrived. Since I hadn't gotten far with the config of Armbian Stretch I started on a new image. But to my disappointment the ARM processor is now clocked to 1008Mhz and not the 1.2Ghz the device is set to by manufacturer. I can guess that it is because of the heat problem that it is now set to…

Greetings all. I am having no success getting access to gpio pins in NR using opi-gpio. I am trying to re-build a system that I messed up due to an update. The update broke access to the 1-wire host adapter I had running on I2C. Very frustrating because I had this working once but that was a number of versions ago for both armbian and NR. Also, the gpio pins were working even after the I2c update. In the process of 'fixing' that I started over with current armbian: mil…

So I've installed and I'm running watchdog for some months now on BananaPi M1. I think it reboots the board when the default gateway has some issues. And that's fine, no problem with that. The board works 24/7 and it made 14+ days uptime without problems. But things have changed and the board reboots at least few times a day (seems I have a problem with armbianmonitor -u - the board rebooted twice before it ended). And here's the problem. watchdog doesnt log anything or I'm unable to find any usefull info. Do I have to install all emulator one by one? or I could use retroarch? Can I setup armbian to boot emustation? I think could be a good thing also for study

Good day, We use NanoPi Neo Core in voice information systems. We found a problem with the implementation of Dynamic Audio Power Management for Portable Devices in H3. Our program plays voice files using the standard call of the operating system - "aplay". Before starting the reproduction of each file the voltage is discharged and restored at the output of the DAC. This leads to a loud click on the output of the audio system. Setting pmdown_time = -1 does not save the situation. Can you help in solving this problem? P.S. This problem appeared in version 4 of the kernel.

I run the OPi Zero as a Pihole with etherned, and I would like to minimize power consumption as low as possible. 1. I did change the frequency to be between 120 - 960 Mhz, and ondemand. This probably reduces power and heat too. 2. I'm not sure how to disable USB (I don't need it at all) and WiFi. I read the threads, like this but not sure how to do. Can you please guide me? 3. I saw there are other options too, with a tool h3consuption, but I don't know how to install it and what can I do to squeze down a couple of mW's more. Your help is very much appreciated!

OPiPC2, with Armbian Bionic desktop mainline based kernel 4.19.y Using it as headless server, all X and desktop stuff removed. Using PuTTY to log in via SSH, line drawing stuff (as usual) only works if translation is set to ISO-8859-1 in PuTTY. mc looks great, but all ncurses-based software (aptitude, htop, bmon etc) does not. Main problem seems that horizontal spacing is "shrunk" whenever there is no text to keep it: This is even more dramatic for menu systems and anything that is column-oriented. Tried dpkg-reconfigure locales to switch system to ISO-8859, but no change, really seems to be an ncurses bug. No such problem…

Hello, I have an OrangePi Zero H2 which until recently was running almost flawlessly with the Armbian_5.38_Debian_stretch_4_14_14 image. When I did a kernel upgrade using "apt-get dist-upgrade" (because I had earlier the error message ~"failed to Load Kernel Modules", and dist-upgrade was recommended), and this dist-upgrade failed inbetween (probably because of power consumption), the SD card was left in unbootable state. (error msg see below [1]) I concluded that the /boot directory was corrupted, so from a new installation of Armbian_5.38_Debian_stretch_4_14_14 made elsewhere I copied all the /boot directory over to my SD card. This m…

I'm wondering if anyone has had any luck using spi-gpio to bitbang SPI on the H5... @martinayotte, I found a forum thread from a few years ago where you seemed to be looking at this area - perhaps you have an idea? Doing a typical spi-gpio DT overlay for this properly loads the spi-gpio and spi-bitbang drivers, creates /dev/spidev0.0, and allocates the gpios (verified via gpiod)...but the first problem I see is that the CS line is simply not working (cs-gpios below)...? /dts-v1/; /plugin/; / { fragment@0 { target-path = "/"; __overlay__ { spi { compatible = "s…

Hi ! I am using Armbian_5.65_Orangepilite_Debian_stretch_next_4.14.78armbian deb stretch image on orange pi lite. Its working great for the most part, but it misses the starting portion of the audio. I have installed snips voice assistant on it and for some reason the speaker does not produce the confirmation sound output on hotword detection. But plays rest of the sound outputs after that for another 5 seconds or so. Missing the confirmation sound from a smart speaker is really annoying. Is that a bug? Is there a possible workaround? Is any way this can be solved properly? Please point me in the right direction

Hi there, I was expecting /etc/machine-id to be unique for every install, but it is static which was very unexpected (I use it as the basis of machine-specific identifier which should have been globally unique). fixing it up was easy enough: rm -f /etc/machine-id rm -f /var/lib/dbus/machine-id dbus-uuidgen --ensure systemd-machine-id-setup Shouldn't this be done when the root fs is being resized on the first boot?

I'm connected to my Orange PI Zero over serial. I have a WiFi connection configured in NetworkManager on the Zero to my home AP/gateway, and it can connect to the internet over it. However: the Zero does NOT reply to ARP requests. Obviously this means that no machine on the network can discover the MAC address of the Zero, and cannot connect to it... unless... the Zero first connects out. once the Zero has sent a packet to a machine, the machine will …

Hi All, Just wanted to share a good story using armbian. I have used in the past 1-wire probes for temperature, and the process included decompiling, editing and recompiling dtb for my Banana Pi M1, which was not easy at all. Every firmware update deleted by changes and had to redo de recompilation. Hi there, Orange Pi PC+, Armbian Stretch. What I want is to replicate current router (OpenWRT Barrier Breaker on TP-LINK MR3220 v1) on and Orange Pi. I have an Orange Pi Zero that had an uptime of well over a year monitoring the output of some solar panels and the state of charge of a battery. It then switches a couple of relays in response to these measurements. It has been really reliable for 2 years, never crashing or rebooting until now. At the beginning of September it started to stop working, it has no monitor or keyboard, only a cat5 cable, so when I say stop working, I mean it stops logging to the nfs drive, stops switching the relays, stops responding to pings and any ssh sessions timeout. It does this every few days, around 6:30 am, and I then have to power cycle it to get it to work a…

Hello! I have an Cubietruck with an attached SATA-Disk. I would like to use the board without an SD-Card (I don't see why I should use one when I have a nand and a Disk). I can boot u-boot-sunxi-with-spl.bin using FEL and Armbian boots successfully. I can write stuff to nand, but I didn't manage to write an working u-boot to nand. Is the SPL-Version the correct one or the one without? Do I have to write to something special like MBR? Where does the BROM search for the bootloader? Does it parse the partition-table? Thanks in advance!

During the last days the system crashed twice - by crashed I mean that no SSH or other connections was possible and I had to force-power off. I used it for months without crashes before so its probably related to a new SATA drive. I wanted to look at the syslog and I noticed that /var/log/syslog only shows entries starting from the current boot and the /var/log.hdd/syslog is empty. Do I understand correctly that armbian logs only to /var/log which is a ram drive so the logs (or at least the syslog) is never persisted? How can I find out whether the SATA drive is responsible and why? Maybe it has a too high power consumption under special circumstan…

I have an Orange Pi One Plus with the H6 chip in it and I'm quite happy with how well it's supported by Armbian. I haven't really had any problems with it. I do have one question, though. I'm using armbianmonitor to "-m" monitor the machine and I notice that the temps are always pretty hot. Even at idle (480MHz) it still shows 72C. That seems higher than I would have expected. Is this normal, expected behavior? I understand that the SoC thermal monitoring code in the kernel is pretty new and therefore might not be perfect, yet. So, I thought I'd ask. Because it may just be my board that's off. Does anyone know if this is normal? Info: …
