My English isn't very smooth. First of all I'm sorry. I installed the arbian on a tv box. Model number X88 mini, Rockchip 3328, 2GB RAM, 16GB Flash. I installed version 5.75 Ubuntu rock64. The problem is that the internet does not connect. The WiFi and ethernet card certainly do not recognize. I've also installed and run the same version Debian and slackware onto this device. No one connects to the internet. I know it's a mismatch problem. These versions are designed for rock64. I want to use the X88 mini device as a Linux lover to be able to use. Can you help me? http://wiki.pine64.org/index.php/ROCK64_Main_Page

my box is a H96 pro plus TV box, installed Armbian 23.08.0-trunk Lunar. was working well stand alone, had ethernet and wifi, I decided make use of this box as a network-bridge I wanted to connect a 3d printer that only has ethernet to wifi, just to transfer files. so finding instructions on this (reverse network bridge?) was difficult, some say's it can't be done, found one person said he just did it but was for a rpi I think using dhcpcd. but anyways when I installed dhcpcd it removed nmcli and now my wifi is disconnected and ethernet is no longer listed. still messing with it to see if I can get it back, but I attached the script he gav…

With many users here in this forum owning different SoCs, dev boards and TV boxes, i wonder which one would be recommended to be used as a simple desktop with HW support for GUI. I have one S905 in my mind, but not sure if mali-450 is supported with balbes150 images.

I am trying to load armbian server with a mainline (at least 4.9) linux kernel on my s912 box. I currently have a the 3.14 linux Kernel running fine. The mainline images on yadidisk dont seem to have as many dtb files as the image i used and they dont run anything. Steps I have tried: factory reset and load image factory reset and copy dtb files from 3.14 image and load image copy the autorun zip files and load image. i do not get any action on the 4.9 images or the 4.18 images but i can reload the 3.14 images is there any other method to try?

Hello, i'm using wvdial in order to connect my box to the internet which brings up the ppp0 interface, but when i try to ping an external host i get packet filtered. i was wondering which kind of rule should i set. Also i noticed that issuing sudo service networking restart wasn't enought after i edited /etc/network/interfaces in order to connect to the internet, instead a full reboot was needed. which comand should i use in this case?

According to 2019 intruction post of TX3 mini tvbox, here https://www.codedbearder.com/posts/mainline-linux-on-tx3-mini/ I would like to know that the newer hardware are possible to go with linux on internal storage or not? i'm planning to buy it. I would like to have linux running on the internal memory. I wonder if there is an issue with changing from eMMC to NAND on this model and the internal memory can't be used for linux installation anymore. Please anyone help clarify this issue?

Hi, I got a Phicomm N1 TV Box, which is Amlogic S905D. I'm trying to build libreelec/coreelect for it. I saw there is a step in the build script to build and write the u-boot to the header of the output disk image. I don't understand the purpose of this step. In my understanding, u-boot is already in the NAND of the box. What's the purpose to write it into the disk image? Is this step needed for my device? Currently I can see these u-boot env variables with my device: start_autoscript=if usb start ; then run start_usb_autoscript; fi; if mmcinfo; then run start_mmc_autoscript; fi; run start_emmc_autoscript; start_emmc_autoscript=if fatload mmc 1 1020000 emmc_…

Hello all! And no by an old arm box I don't mean a box full of proshetic limbs! :-) . I'm referring to this device: http://rikomagic.co.uk/linux_mini_pcs.html https://www.cnx-software.com/2014/09/25/rikomagic-announces-mk902ii-le-ubuntu-mini-pc-powered-by-rockchip-rk3288-soc/ The device was badged as a "RKM Mk902II" and claims to have a rk3288. Dug it out today (it has sat unused and untouched for quite a while). Found that its plsatic box which has that strange gunk that is applied to to the box to make it look "shiny" has started to break down so it has become sticky. Anyway since I am clearing things out …

Sincerally i don't really understand why so many people say bad thing of tvboxes with armbian.. i work daily with tvboxes and sold a few hundreds.. and i used dozens for installing coreelec, libreelec, armbian and home assistant in it and yes, they give a bit more work to set up than some well known boards specifically designed for development builds, but after everything is installed and set up, it's very rare for them to give any issues.. and you pay just a fraction of the cost and have hardware very close to the best recommended boards, and sometimes even better hardware.. what i recommend is using the more known ones and use good sdcards.. sincerally.. stop spreading …

I have a TV box with S905L3B (dtb file in android system is named gxlx2_p291_1g.dtb). However, I can't find a suitable dtb file for Armbian. So I wonder if I or someone else can adjust or modify the dtb file to boot an Armbian system if I have the gxlx2_p291_1g.dtb and gxlx2_p291_1g.dts files from the Android system(4.4.2)?

Hello Armbian'ers, I'm a veteran Debian user and occasional system administrator, but - have zero experience with TV set-top boxes / media streamers. I now find myself in a position of needing one: In a rental apartment, I have a wall-mounted TV with HDMI in but an old, custom, non-upgradable vendor-specific OS and no network connectivity. To be honest - I don't particularly need my box to be ARM-based, nor do I need my OS distribution to be Debian. I mean, that would be the nicest, since my desktop is Devuan Chimaera (~= Debian 11), but I would definitely settle on any reasonable Linux distro. Anyway, my questions: 1. How c…

I have a T95 Max+ android tv box (Same one that ETA Prime reviewed) that has a S905X3. Using the latest img (Armbian_20.07_Arm-64_bionic_current_5.7.9.img.xz) I have set the uEnv.txt to use meson-sm1-sei610.dtb. I have tried to use the Update app but that gives the the Error screen with these errors: E: Block map file is too short: 3 E: Map of '@/cache/recovery/block.map' failed E: failed to map file Installation aborted. Using the so called toothpick method I was able to get to the screen with the 4 tux pictures but the color of the screen was blue. Hello I am new at the forum. My english is not good but i can understand all :) I have a Magicsse n5 android box (S905X) and i like to install Armbian on it (on a micro sd card) I have done everything in the manual but I'm only assigned to the user and assigned root and then linux should start. But it does not do it, it only flashes in the top left of an arrow. I tried it with this file "meson-gxl-s905x-p212.dtb" but it does not work .... Do you have any idea why it is not working? Thank you :)

Been at this for a few days now and am slowly losing my mind. Got a MQX Amlogic 905 P201. (CS_905MXQ_V1.0) and have been running Armbian for a while now off SD card using meson-gxbb-p201.dtb without any issues. Using Armbian_5.84_Aml-s905_Debian_stretch_default_5.1.0-rc1_20190507 Tried installing to emmc by running install.sh. Everything looked good but rebooted and found the device was bricked. Managed to get it working again by running the usb burning tool and flashing MXQ PRO 4K - p201 - android TV (ATV) - by cOOLio. SoI can at least boot into it and browse the SD card, but now for some reason I can't boot directly back in…

Hello, I'm running ARMBIAN aarch64 on H96 Pro Plus (S912 with Mali T820) 3gb ram I have built new Mesa 20 with Panfrost support ,all is fine but NO OpenGL 3 support at all, just until 2. PS I boot using the following dtb meson-gxm-q200.dtb or meson-gxm-khadas-vim2.dtb Thanks

No HDMI output (Amlogic S905X3 - X96 Max Plus2). Armbian *is* running, can SSH in when up. Have also soldered on a TTL UART (CH340G - all good/can putty in to watch boot logs). If flash back to Android stock, still no HMDI out (again can adb in IP address:5555 just fine). So, to clarify, when I say no HDMI out - I mean "No Signal". This includes the vendor Uboot splash when flashed with Android firmware (on the same/original LCD that was previously working just fine). Dmesg registers connect/disconnect HDMI hot plug, but no display. Is there an efuse for HDMI out? Almost certain board is just coincidentally dead at this s…

Hi guys. I had a s905x previously which died - the heatsink fell off. I ran armbian on it for a little while and it was great. But i replaced it with a s912 which i like the extra power of. I am now looking for an android box to get for armbian use only. I will probably put an intel heatsink/fan on it even if i feel it is necessary. Which devices under $70 would be considered most ideal for armbian only use? I hope not to have to go back to s905x after experiencing s912 but if it is the best stable one, i will get another cheap s905x. Onboard flash 8gb vs 16gb... Not a huge deal. Will use 200gb microsd either way. RAM at least 2gb my only real concern. Tha…

Googling this question leads to a lot of chromebooks with 8-12 hours of battery life at a cheap price range, and a few Windows/Qualcom Snapdragon laptops with 24 hours of battery life but much more expensive. I would love to see a linux or chromebook laptop with 24 hours of battery life at a reasonable price point but am perhaps not doing a good search. Would any of you know of a really long lasting ARM-based laptop at a reasonable price point?

I have a problem. “ddbr” can not make a backup of a andriod system in a Amlogic S905 TV box with a NAND flash, see this link for more details. When I use 'ddbr' in an Ambian system booted by USB drive, it shows below: root@SumavisionQ5:~# ddbr DO YOU WANT TO BACKUP OR RESTORE ? BACKUP=(b) RESTORE=(r) b UNABLE TO FIND ANY EMMC OR SD DRIVES ON THIS SYSTEM!!! I think someone else must have the same problem. Can we make an improvement of 'ddbr' , so that it can be used for a NAND flash.

Just installed Armbian on a TicTid X9T Pro which has: - 3Gb of DDR3 - 32 Gb eMMC - Amlogic S912 with an Octa-Core CPU - WiFi Dual band - Bluetooth 4.1 - Gb LAN port - GPU which does 4K HD fine Also installed the desktop which presents itself in HD 4K mode (connected to my new LCD TV just fine). Then installed Kodi from default repository. Noticed that it would crash on startup. Changed the default Desktop resolution to HD (1900X1200) afterwards and noticed that KODI started fine in HD mode. I purchased this TV box for my project to make an Hybrid media player/server based on Linux. I selected the Excelvan TV box as it Is the only based on S912 and with a SATA Port to add an hard disk. The idea is to: - install Armbian - install and activate Kodi stand alone - install Media server (Plex or Emby) Anyone succeeded in getting a fully working Armbian installation? Can It boot from the SATA disk? So far I succeeded in installing Armbian (dtb gxm-q200) from USB but ethernet port is not working. I am waiting for an HD Firecuda 1TB to test of it can run from the SATA disk. Appreciate any help on my project. Inviato dal mio MI 8 Lite utilizzando Tapatalk

Hi I'm in the market for a cheap Linux Bo and from what I see it seems these Android TV boxes are the cheapest. I basically want a system I can just muck around with about, but also one that has working WiFi, can play 1080p video in H264 and H265 and can surf the web/play YouTube without much issue. I'm not interested in the boxes Android capabilities, I'm interested in if it can run a desktop Linux with things above. Essentially Wifi, Hardware decoding of H264/5 video and acceptable video playback on the Internet. Considering a raspberry pi with all the needed things costs more than one of these boxes it is a very nice alternative, but in a sea of…

I have found this GREAT post by odroidn2user explaining hardware acceleration info and status in Amlogic devices. It answers most of the questions I've had since I first installed Armbian, maybe some admin can make a sticky. https://forum.odroid.com/viewtopic.php?t=36675 @balbes150 now I'm thinking about getting a RK3399 with a midgard GPU instead of a Ugoos AM6 Pro with S922X and a bifrost GPU. Or do you think bifrost support will be added soon?

Hi everyone! Firstly sorry if this question is too basic or already had a solution in other topic, but I couldn't found the answer I'm looking for and I'm new to Armbian. But let's go... We have a standalone system here that plays videos all day long. That kind of "internal TV" from the company, where they put news and other things someone judge it's interesting. It works pretty well so far for roundly 10 years. Thing is: it relies on regular PCs! As you may know, they're big and has bigger energy consumption than this amazing TV Box. During a meeting someone came up with the idea of replacing it for something sm…

Hi, I am posting from work, so do not currently have access to my MXQ box, meaning what I am about to explain is based on last nights attempt at running Armbian from a SDCard I will try to be as detailed as I can.... Hi all, We have an issue about xhci controller, the armbian on the S905W will throw there are not enough resource controller when using hub usb 3.0 (dmess). On ubuntu, we can disable xhci by command follow on this topic https://www.systutorials.com/how-to-force-a-usb-3-0-port-to-work-in-usb-2-0-mode-in-linux/ lspci -nn | grep USB \ | cut -d '[' -f3 | cut -d ']' -f1 \ | xargs -I@ setpci -H1 -d @ d0.l=0 This command will executed and xhci controller will switched to ehci controller, this function useful for us since ehci controller can be handled a lot of resource. Another solution to disable xhci here: https://askubuntu.com/questi…

I'm able to successfully boot-up into Armbian_5.37_S9xxx_Ubuntu_xenial_3.14.29 but got stuck instead at the root login due to the following issues... 1. Tried using usb keyboard - No response. 2. Tried SSH via WiFi or usb Ethernet - Failed to connect. I'm using 150balbes method of installing the image to SDCard. I also had input the required details on first run armbian.txt file. From documentation, I've understand that USB support in u-boot currently not enabled on all H3 boards. How to enable the usb support? TVBox : S-BOX Amlogic S905X TV Box

Hey everyone, don't tear me up too much, but its been maybe 25 years since I have dabbled with any *nix type environment. Recently tinkering around, I installed Armbian on my TX3 Mini Android box. No complaints, feels like I am getting back into the swing of things again. But for some reason, I cannot figure out how to turn off the screen saver / maybe power managent IE: Black screen. It goes black after 10 minutes or so and I just wanted to keep it on. Spent a few days trying things on and off from suggestions I found online, but nothing seems to work. FYI I dont have xscreensaver installed either. Thanks!

I've been trying to activate the framebuffer on a Armbian Debian-server image. The framebuffer doesn't exist on a server image but I need to be able to install it. So I thought, what about DirectFB. I've been searching the web for instructions on installing DirectFB. I need to install it and not have to burn a new image (I'm not capable). I just noticed that if I go to /boot/debian i find all the libdirectfb files. Can somebody show me (step by step) how I could install DirectFB or directly activate the framebuffer using these files? What files (including directories) to install, scripts to modify, etc. Any help would be…

Hi TV boxes hackers, We are thinking of re-purposing an existing Android TV box into a $30 personal cyber-security monitoring server for your home. Good or terrible idea? What caveats should we pay attention to? We will order directly from the manufacturer so we should be able to save some money (no need for a remote or an HDMI cable) and ensure they all use the same components. Giving the current chip shortage, it is though to reach a $30 price point without being creative... (we won't take any profit on the hardware) The project will be open source (no code yet). Current status: Armbian running on RK3318 -…

I know that this topic actually concerns all ARM boards, but I've chosen to post in TV-boxes, because they really need some kind of harddisk attachment, especially when used as servers (so you don't wear down the SD-card). Some time ago, Western Digital made a USB-drive, which was specially designed for the Raspberry Pi. https://www.wdc.com/en-ie/search-results.html?q=pidrive Personally I'm using two 1TB WD-blue with my CubieBoard2, because the CubieBoard2 has buit-in S-ATA interface. But TV-boxes usually don't have S-ATA, so the PiDrive is an option worth considering. What's special about this drive ? At a glance, nothing really. It's…

Hi. Thanks so much for the effort that's been put in to this. It's really quite amazing what I can do with my little TV box! I've had some issues getting armbian to work fully though, and I believe it's entirely down to the dtb.img not being quite right. I'm using: gxm_q201_2g.dtb On the xenial mate version found: https://yadi.sk/d/srrtn6kpnsKz2/Linux/ARMBIAN/5.44/kernel_3.14 Which, while booting up fine, gives me no WiFi. When I run: dmesg | grep wifi I see several lines like: aml_wifi wifi.36: [wifi_dev_probe] no power_on_pin2 ... (…

Im working with a T95 S1, an A95X and an MXQ Pro and using the images from @balbes150 yandisk repo (thanks!) Mostly everything seems to work fine except when transferring data to or from the devices (I havent tested WiFi or BT). My problem is that I cant use the ethernet to transfer any files. Network data transfers start as expected then get gradually slower and slower until after 10-15 seconds at which point data transfer stops and the device becomes unresponsive for a few minutes. Eventually I can SSH back into the device but any at…

Hi, This SOC is very interesting as it has a native SATA interface and Gigabit Ethernet. The boxes equipped with it (Zidoo X9S, X10, Xnano X5, Beelink SEA 1,...) can be used as a NAS because they have OpenWRT inside/with Android but it is rather limited. I'd like to use my SEA 1 with OMV under Armbian but is it possible to have dual boot on these boxes like S905x ones ?

Hello, I have recently found two android TV boxes and am interested in getting Armbian running on them versus the very deprecated Android versions they have. Doing a little research, I've found that they're MXQ EasyView TV models and run on ARM processors similar to my Le Potatoes that I've been playing around with for a few months. I've found their webpage, and it's pretty comical. Unfortunately, they don't list the exact ARM processor and/or specs and just looking up MXQ results in newer models only and Easyview barely anything except the mentioned site. https://easyviewtv.com/homepage.html Now, there does look like there was a p…

Hello, I am trying to control volume Up/Down and mute through alsamixer with no success. When launching alsamixer the only changable device is DAC Digital, but actually it does not change anything, the volume remains at "56" and won't change. It is almost not possible to control volume through alsamixer or amixer command line. The only control I have found is the mute/unmute through /sys/class/amaudio but not the volume level ! It is the case for all armbian (debian, ubuntu) servers packages. I think some thing goes wrong... Any help or hint would be appreciated. Thanks

Hello everyone I'm posting here what I did to run Armbian on a 4G LTE EM90 box. The image I'm using is armbian_5.37_S9xx_Debian_stretch_3.14.29_icewm_20171226. I extracted the dtb.img from the rooted android, I had to remove the beginning of the file to make it work. If you don't cut the file until you reach 0xD0 0D FE ED, you will get a magic number error when decompiling and Armbian will not boot with your fresh DTB. So I have this: https://www.amazon.com/Android-Sidiwen-Processor-Bluetooth-Ethernet/dp/B07KS8J85L/ I somehow found this image Armbian_20.05.0_Rk3328-tv_buster_current_5.6.0-rc4_desktop_20200312.img that I cannot remember where I opbtained it. Anyway, I wrote it to a 32 gig SD card using win32diskimager and successfully booted into armbian on the box. Oddly it would not boot from a USB stick from any of the ports. My question is, is there a dtb for this box that has the wi-fi and Bluetooth working? A plus would be the ir and power led as well. I know this is unlikely but couldn't hurt to ask. Is there an updated distro for the RK3188 ? (Quad core A9, ARMv7) I have been looking around but not been able to find something newer than Ubuntu 12.02, or an old Linuxium Found this old stick in a drawer, and want to repurpose it to a headless Linux box. 2GB RAM. My goal would be to run Home Assistant on it, which does run on the Pi 3 Model B. So I assume the 20% better performance of the A53 would be offset a bit by having twice the RAM. I think it is better to repurpose it than to throw it out.
