Any (un)official news on the subject? I'd like to get a couple for tinkering with, but at FA site they keep reporting 3-4 weeks until they're available again.

I'm sure @tkaiser has something like this already, but for the rest of us ;-) https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07C34MT32/ This should work, of course you need to power the drive, I've ordered one so I can get a look at those partially hidden headers spots, looks to be a sata power pattern (15 places) May need some solder time to get both headers and (I would guess) the heavy pads are for the various power rails if you want to "spin rust" as I've seen it written. Finding the SATA power socket could prove challenging for the hobbyist, I'll pull up the Molex number for it I stand corrected, my search through the usual channels show …

By comparing https://github.com/friendlyarm/linux/blob/sunxi-4.14.y/arch/arm/boot/dts/sun8i-h3-nanopi-duo2.dts and https://github.com/friendlyarm/linux/blob/sunxi-4.14.y/arch/arm/boot/dts/sun8i-h2-plus-nanopi-duo.dts the only real difference is replacing the crappy XR819 Wi-Fi with RTL8189 (the other change being H2+ being replaced by H3) NanoPi Hero also features RTL8189 Wi-Fi, is limited to Fast Ethernet and has an I2C accessible voltage regulator allowing the board to clock at up to 1368 MHz (at 1.4V VDD_CPUX): https://github.com/friendlyarm/linux/blob/sunxi-4.14.y/arch/arm/boot/dts/sun8i-h3-nanopi-hero.dts Maybe @mindee is so kind to provide an…

http://wiki.friendlyarm.com/wiki/index.php/NanoPi_K1_Plus RPi 3 form factor like their K2, maximum DRAM (2GB), Gigabit Ethernet, Wi-Fi with onboard aerial provided by RTL8189ETV, still using their own/new eMMC socket. According to schematics and their Github repo a SY8106A voltage regulator is used which is great news since then it's possible to clock the H5 well above 1.3 GHz.

Hello everybody, I am new to this forum, and stumbled upon Armbian while looking for OS options for the NanoPi M4 board. Great work! The board is running well now, but I do have a few questions: Armbian is WIP, but as NicoD says it's actually very stable. Any idea when it's going to "supported" officially? I did have an issue with the 4.4 kernel, which I worked around. How is your experience with more recent kernels, is it advisable to upgrade? Or will the official image be upgraded from the LibreElec kernel? (Compiling a kernel still seems a little bit daunting to me, although I did it on x86 chips years ago). What timeframe i…

Hi all, unfortunately the USB power port on my Nanopi M4 V2 has broken off and I can't see a way to reattach it securely - it looks like it's just a push fit onto the board on 4 little tabs no solder involved no wonder it eventually fell off. I've heard that it's possible to power the Nano via the GPIO pins - anyone here done that - I'm not to clued up with all things electrical but I can solder ? I'm thinking I could make a cable to connect to the pins

Hi there, I was wondering how to get the audio running on the NanoPI NEO. It has line-out PINs and I read the H3 has SPDIF which should be the correct output. 14. I started this journey with DietPi on a nanopi r4s. I asked about it on the DietPi forum, and they basically said "Our distro is a bunch of scripts on top of Armbian. We can't really help you with a kernel problem." So I reimaged with Armbian and I'm here now. Background with DietPi: When I first boot the DietPi image, the LAN port works. This is on kernel 5.10.63. Then as soon as I log into it via ssh on the IP address acquired by the LAN port, it proceeds to auto-upgrade software, including the kernel, which goes to 5.15.25. During the upgrade, I got messages saying a bunch of firmware for the r8169 driver was not there. Installing armbian-firmware-full…

  15. hi all i had armbian build running with 'dev' kernel (4.9.0) and armbian 5.24 which worked PERFECT over a month. decided 2 days ago to build from scratch, armbian build system pulled all latest updates and i got 5.24 with kernel 4.9.3 (2 days ago) and 4.9.4 today. None of those would boot properly (ie. can not ping/access the board). I also tried downloading nightly build and that one is not working any more. Iknow these builds are not supported but since it worked very well i think something got broken either in kernel or uboot or in armbian so might be worth a look. tx in advance !

I want to turn my Banana PI into a NAS. Since SSDs are still too small (or much too expensive for my purpose) I need to use a standard 3,5 HD and those will need that much power (on spin-on at least) that I can't use the Banana SATA to power up the HD, right? Can those people that use banana pi et al. as NAS tell me what kind of external power supply they use with what type of connector? If you can recommend low-power HDs I'd like to hear that too. Are there power supplys that can safely feed the Banana pi itself and the HD? Preferably without soldering the connectors?

You may want to try this if your orangepi zero plus with NAS IO expansion combination is running too hot, with Nanopi neo 2 it runs a bit cooler (~ 65 vs 70 in full load). Not sure if it is because of the slower CPU speed or the more exposed heat sink.

I have a NAS which can support iSCSI, NFS, or NBD. I have several years of experience using iSCSI on x86, but I was wondering if anyone is using it on these ARM boards. I'm also looking at NBD, because it is supposedly lower overhead than iSCSI. Is anyone currently using NBD on their SBC? I've heard NBD doesn't handle connectivity issues as well as iSCSI, so it's not wise to use for data you care about. However, providers such as Scaleway are using NBD as the rootfs for their ARM servers (not saying this is good or bad, just saying it). I am thinking specifically of having the SBC be the client, not the server. However anyone who can pr…

  20. Ahoy! I'm looking for a cheap SBC with mainline kernel support (so hopefully Armbian support too) and a stereo line-level input and output. I'd like to also have atleast an ARMv7 or later instruction set (need Neon instructions) and atleast 512 megs of RAM (but 1 or 2 gigs would be nice; and I could survive with 256MB if I work really hard). My use-case is that I intend to pair this up with a cheap mixer and run a few audio plugins via Ardour. Most plugins I use (generally stuff from the Guitarix project) depend on the ARM Neon instructions. The ModDevices project seems to be based off an ARMv7 instruction set based 1GB board so it's kinda sorta my…

Hi, I have a few questions about the NanoPi R1 system. 1) The (USB > TTL) debug serial port is that 3.3v or 5v? I need to get the correct adapter. 2) Hooking up a serial debug cable is there enough room to close the front plate? 3) Can the system run from eMMc and get software upgraded from the SD-Card? 4) I could not not find clear procedures for this. Am not familiar with OpenWRT. 5) Can the Ethernet port be used to talk to a P.C. running Windows (putty) or would the micro-USB to P.C. be better? 6) I would eventually use WiFi for remote access and updates. 7) Can the NanoPi R1 run Apache WEB server? 8) Can …

First post here... apologies in advance for any questions that might sound dumb. My plan: buy Android TV boxes and install Armbian to run browsers and remote control using AnyDesk. I chose Android TV boxes - everything is complete and contained in a small box + very cheap. For £35 for example, I can get with power supply - with 2GB RAM - not sure about processor though. - Should I consider other options? Like Orange Pi? I've got a 3rd generation Raspberry Pi - that is so poor for speed, chokes on one or 2 browser tabs. (I haven't tried Armbian - I will be doing shortly.) - Need recommended hardware. Whether it's an…

Hey all! Just signed up. I had been thinking of converting an older T.V. box and was hoping I could do it with Debian. Debian has been my preferred OS for some time now. I have never dealt with these boxes or arm for that matter. It looks like it may be possible to install armbian on this box and I started reading some of the documentation. What I would like to ask before I go down the rabbit hole is, based only on the specs below, if it looks possible? Would it be a good candidate for armbian or would there be too much non-cpu bits that surely won't work. If you folks thinks it's a capable box then I will put on my boots and get into it. Just an honest opinion. Also…

Greetings, colleagues! When I connect a Wi-Fi USB adapter, the system assigns it a terrible interface name! I'm used to the fact that a well-bred Linux gives them names like wlan0, wlan1, etc... Armbian gives the name according to the following scheme: "wlx<MAC-ADDRESS>"! It is very uncomfortable! How I can persuade him to give names according to the traditional scheme? I am grateful for the answers on the essence of the question, Ogogon.

So I'm considering buying an Odroid N2+ and installing Armbian on it. As said in the title, I'd like to use OBS Studio on it, but would like to know if someone already installed it - and could use it of course -, just to spare time. Maybe it's already been discussed somewhere here, but as I said, the "Search" function doesn't work for me. Thanks in advance.

  85. <prompt> "Talk to me about it." <claude> Good question, because the honest answer has layers, and most of the "8K" in the ads lives in only one of them. What's real: the decoder. The RK3588's video engine (RKVDEC2) really does decode 8K: HEVC and VP9 at 8K@60, H.264 and AV1 at 8K@30, in silicon. That's not marketing. It's the same block Deep Ink talks to for our 4K HDR work, and 8K is just more macroblocks through the same pipe. So "8K video decoding" is a true statement about the chip. Where it thins out: the display. The VOP2 display controller's big port (VP0) tops out at 8K@30 or 4K@120, and here's the nugget: those are the same number. …

Same to armbianmonitor, which is now .. guess - orangepimonitor. Also armbianEnv.txt now orangepiEnv.txt in /boot. Looks like "good global search and replace job" was done. I'm not a lawyer, neither too much aware of opensource licenses... But I guess there SHOULD be a reference to original Armbian sources ? May be Armbian "stakeholders" are aware of this, may be not. Just for your information.
