Hi, I have some Siemens s7-1200 plc 's at a remote site and I need a client application to read (only) from the plc registers (Mostly DB200) and tiger an alarm that will send an email. For the moment I use an ewon router for remote communication and also read from the registers, tiger alarms and send emails. I know that Snap7 is working on ARM (e.g. cubietruck) with Siemens s7-1200 plc 's, so If someone is able write an application (at a logical cost) i would be interested to pay for it. I prefer the application to be compatible with amrbian on olinuxino. Set up of armbian with watchdog and smtp server would be also appreciated.

Somewhere I read that this coud be accomplished via udev but I also read that /sys is not affected by udev (only /dev). Pretty happy with it, especially for internal SATA. Recently found that Cubietech releases Cubieboard6 on S-500 CPU with same form-factor and SATA. That means, that all casing/housing can stay intact. LXC containers also can be migrated since CPU is still ARMv7. But at the same time found somewhere on this forum, that board is not really good quality... Cannot argue or agree with this since I don't have a board and it looks costly. So my question - what is advis…

The job is currently being done by an OrangePi PC (H3, 1Gb), and is mostly about generating static web sites, which means rendering static HTML/json/js files and uploading them via SCP to a cheap shared hosting provider (the orange pi does not do the actual hosting). It doesn't have any 3rd party dependencies and can easily be made to run on systems with no operating system or file system. Everything is working fine but I seem to get a new core fw on an almost daily basis (armbian-bsp-cli-rock64-current) and the board needs to be rebooted each time. An I using the wrong repo or is this normal? Should i consider running stock debian instead of armbian?

I was able to build the property file for the NanoPi M1 in about 20 minutes, so now basically you can do ~2 MHz GPIO square wave on all Allwinner and S905 CPUs (you listening @TonyMac32?) without any special code or adapters. All other libraries require one off code to support GPIO register access thus they only support limited boards. In my mind this is the holy grail for cross platform GPIO performance. I plan on going through some more diverse boards, but I'm happy with the results so far. Since only one core is utilized you'll average 25% CPU utilization on quad core systems. That may be another goal using two threads to improve performance further. I have currently m…

Hi, I have a OpenVPN server running on the broadband router installed at my parents house. My router at home connects to this and I mirror my complete NAS over this connection. My brother also has a laptop on which he uses VPN occasionally to copy important stuff there. Since the router has only a small dual core MIPS CPU, VPN speeds are limited to about 18Mbit/s. The connection at my parents home is 100/50Mbit/s and mine at home 250/80Mbit/s, so it could work faster. Also, the VPN takes up all the CPU so for example DNS resolution is slow if the VPN is saturated. For this reason, I'd like to buy a inexpensive small device tha…

Java Periphery is a high performance library for GPIO, LED, PWM, SPI, I2C, MMIO and Serial peripheral I/O interface access in userspace Linux. Rather than try to build this from scratch I used c-periphery and HawtJNI to generate the JNI wrappers. This saves a lot of hand coding and allows for easier synchronization with c-periphery changes moving forward. I believe this is the only userspace IO library that supports the new JDK 17 LTS (and still supports JDK 11). I had to fork HawtJNI to make it work with JDK 17. The only caveat is that ARM32 supports JDK 11. For some reason I cannot find a JDK 17 for ARM32 or information on why is was not supported. The insta…

  80. Hi there, I'm looking for a USB power supply that would be mounted into a rack, so that I can power up quite a few boards at the same time. These boards would also be in the same rack. I found a big rackable USB hub, but that's not what I am looking for, and 2.4A max per slot may be too weak for some of the boards. I could hosts several smaller USB hubs too, but that does not sound really enticing. My other option is to make it by myself with salvaged server power supplies, a patch panel, bits and bobs, but it will take longer... Would you have any recommendation? Thanks.

Breaking *either* rule, got you kicked out. Strangely enough, rule #2 was broken more often than #1. And it helps you grow a skin, no matter what is said. Most importantly, it keeps you hacking, and not getting a heart-attack. For Devs, maybe the OpenBSD philosophy can cut through some of the angst: …
