Hello, As far as i know Orange PI 3B using the Rockchip RK3566, is this SOC support graphic acceleration? I am running Armbian 23.8.2 Jammy with bleeding edge Linux 6.5.2-edge-rockchip64, only 1 tab of Chromium with video player but the CPU reached 100% all time

It's just plain Orange Pi 3B board with default factory config booted from SD card. As you can see most apps can't be started, they just fail silently. If started from terminal they log some exceptions. OS is completely unusable. Hardware is functional and it works well with the default Orange Pi images. Here is the demo video:

When comparing network speeds on the orange pi 3b 8gb model using armbian (Jammy Gnome 6.8.2) and Opios (aarch64-xfce-opi3b-23.08.1-linux5.10.160), there seems to be an issue with uploads on armbian. Using iperf3 for testing, the results were as follows: For orange pi os (arch): From other device (server) to orange pi 3b (client): 112mb/s From orange pi 3b (server) to other device (client): 112mb/s For armbian: From other device (server) to orange pi 3b (client): 112mb/s From orange pi 3b (server) to other device (client): 42mb/s I would like to know the cause of this problem and how to solve it.

Hey folks, I ordered an Orange Pi 4 a couple weeks ago, and it showed up on Wednesday. Last night I started tinkering around with to see if I could get Armbian up and running on it. First thing I did was to hook up my USB-to-TTL debugger to it (no SD card inserted). But when I powered it on, all I'm getting over the serial connection is garbage. With my other OPi's, I'm used to getting U-Boot messages -- but this was far from that: The garbage settles down after about 30 seconds. When I have it hooked up to my Windows machine, I get a new device called "rk3399-mid" that appears in device manager. I tried grabbing the i…

Hi guys, I am using Orange Pi 4 (RK3399) and put in a SD card Armbian buster (and other time bionic) from the official web site but nothing happens. I have tried so many times using dd command from my debian OS and windows tools to write image on SD card but nothing again. When I start the board with Android the SD card could be read by android, but when I reboot just the red led shines and the screen of monitor doesn't show nothing. I would like some help because I would use my board in my project of postgraduate. Nowadays I am so disappointed with this problem. Best regards.

I tried desperately everything, write with another program, used dd for copy, pressed randomly bottoms attached in the back, then one time worked, but it crashed when i attached a keyboard. Later all my micro-sd cards worked, most of them are poor quality, could be that but idk, my power adapter came from official website. # ls usb doesn't show hid I have a cp2012 usb to tll, i can use it for serial debug ?

Hello, friends... The current MIPI DSI driver provided by Rockchip Inc. in older U-Boot versions (v2023 and earlier) is not compatible with U-Boot’s uclass subsystems.(a waste of time if you want to develop). I have done extensive research and made modifications to several files to make it work with the latest U-Boot versions. I have tested it with U-Boot 2023.10, 2024.10 and v2025.rc3 on orange pi 4 lts, and it works perfectly. I'm attaching the necessary files for those who need them. This u-boot driver is nearly identical to Rockchip's Linux kernel driver, uses same driver file but there some limitations because of u-boot system, bu…

Hello everyone! I have an issue with rebooting my orangepi 4 (version without eMMC, booted from SD card). May be you can help with some kind of patch or workaround, or may it be a note for armbian devs. System: Debian GNU/Linux 10 (buster) Image: Armbian_20.05.0-trunk_Orangepi4_buster Affected kernel versions: dev-5.5.2; dev-5.5.5, current-5.4.21, legacy-4.4.213 I have built different armbian images from trunk (legacy, current, dev), and it looks like everything works absolutely fine, except the reboot. Hey everyone, I need some assistance with a problem I'm facing. I recently attempted to attach a 5V cooler to my Orange Pi 4 board, but unfortunately, nothing seems to be happening. I even used a multi-meter to measure the voltage, and it consistently shows 0.0V. To ensure I connected everything correctly, I consulted online diagrams and made sure I was using the appropriate pins. Currently, I am powering my Orange Pi 4 using the USB-C connection. Could this be the cause of the issue? Should I change to use the power jack connection? I would greatly appreciate any help or suggestions you can provide. Thank you in advance.

After Seeing all that spi nmve boot hype for the other boards and some time left i took the effort to level up the Orange Pi boards because they are the same as the rest it has a rk3399. The Uboot was a mess so i matched it with the kerenel dts a lot and corrected some issues. Dts debug is not the friendliest debug it compiles or not And after some trial and error (a lot ) and finding a spi nor flash wich is supported (or you add one of your own) it costs a esp8266 has 4mb spi flash or a old printer who had a 4mb and 8mb i got a boot from spi so . and with reading the armbian forum i saw 150balbes talked about usb boot and didnt know …

I have an Orange Pi 4B. The board as the only USB 3.0 port has the USB-C type. I connect the USB-C x USB-A adapter. I connect the USB flash drive and it doesn't work. Power from the port is coming out properly. Is there any chance that this port will work properly with an external drive?

I'm working on enabling secure boot on Orange Pi 4B. So far I was able to burn eFuses, sign rk loader, a trust image, and a uboot image. To extend secure boot chain to the Linux Kernel, I've enabled FIT_SIGNATURE in u-boot, and manually built FIT image (Linux Kernel, initramfs(initrd), and a kernel DTB). Now I want to add FIT image creation to the Armbian build system. What is the correct place/script to do it?

Since I am interested in the connection ability, I figured the info we gather should go into ONE thread. I have tried to build new kernels, but can only see USB controllers and devices two ports. I have seen a lot of work by Sebasitian Reichel @ Collabora, and his patches, but these do not seem to have the desired result on my test board. Orange PI 5. There seems to be an issue with the port mux, FUSB302, that either connects the last USB to the "vertical" port or to the "USB C" connector. I will comment my findings and attempts to correct this in this thread, and think we could find out where we are if you add your findings, successes…

Has anyone activated the ov13855 camera on Orange Pi 5 (kernel 6.1.x)? If so, can you share your experience?

Hi! My Orange Pi 5 (no Pro, no Plus, no B…) was running Armbian, the Debian Bullseye flavour. It was running Linux `5.10.110-rockchip-rk3588`, then I installed the `linux-image-current-rockchip-rk3588` metapackage, which pulled and installed Linux `6.10.6-current-rockchip-rk3588`. Right after having installed such kernel, I tried to reboot the device, but the device never rebooted: it's just stuck at startup, nothings is displayed on screen and the device is not available on the network (doesn't do any DHCP request at all). I fully unplugged anything from the board, including removing and re-inserting the microSD card. The device now refuses to boot since I up…

Hello friends, Has anyone here successfully activated the I2S pins for connecting a DAC? According to the official documentation, the PCM functionality should be available on physical pins 12 (GPIO4_A6), 35 (GPIO3_C2), 38 (GPIO3_C0), and 40 (GPIO3_B7) of the GPIO header. I've tried many options - in the DTS overlay I've enabled various I2S variants starting from "i2s0_8ch" up to "i2s9_8ch", including different "pinctrl" m[0-1] variants like "i2s1m0" or "i2s1m1", and alternatively "i2s2m0" or "i2s2m1", but I've never managed to get ALT3 mode on the mentioned pins (I assume I2S function = ALT3 mode). In certain combinations, I can at leas…

Hi. I've got a strange issue. When Orange Pi 5 Max was unavailable I installed version for Orange Pi 5 Pro from SD card to NVME SSD. It worked fine Now I decided for fresh install of Armbian dedicated to Max board but I can't boot from SD card. I used exactly the same card and the same power supply as when I installed armbian originally, but when I insert SD card, led goes blue and system is not booting. I don't have any signal on HDMI - monitor goes sleep. When I remove SD card - system boots from SSD and all is working. I removed SSD but system still can't boot from SD card. Do you know any method to boot from SD card or install armbian imag…

Dear community, I just wanted to politely and respectfully ask whether somebody from the Orange Pi 5 or Orange Pi 5 Plus maintainer group wants to maintain the Orange Pi 5 Pro as well? It's using almost the same SoC, a Rockchip RK3588S. Right now, the device is on "community" maintenance, which is a bit sad since its brother/sister boards are on "standard". This means everyone who uses it has to use rolling release instead of being on a stable version. Being relatively close to the other two RK3588-based boards, I hope this can be done? But I don't want to sound like an ass for asking. I just wanted to use the two "Pro" I've bought for …

Good day, I have recently purchased an Orange Pi 5 Pro and want to use Armbian on it. Armbian (Debian 13 Trixie) does not boot and gives a initramfs error. What is the issue around Armbian not booting because of the SPI flash memory? How exactly would I safely erase the SPI flash memory? Thank You

Yesterday, Oct 20th, I installed armbian version "Minimal/IOT images with Armbian Linux v6.1" to the Orange PI 5 PRO and updated kernel using armbian-config to kernel 6.18 RC1(2 options were available 6.12 and 6.18 R1, note 6.12 did not work). Have tested the Orange Pi 5 Ultra and the Armbian Linux v6.1 vendor IOT image for the 5 "Max" model, using the same Max' `rk3588-orangepi-5-max.dtb` FDT file works better than with the rk3588-orangepi-5-ultra.dtb (extracted from the old official Orange Pi image), as surprisingly, dmesg shows less errors with the Max DTB. Tested: ✅ eMMC works. HDMI ports: ✅ Port 1 out works fine. ❓ Haven't tested the port 2 input. Would guess it doesn't work as the Max has bot ports as output. For the AP6611s (SYN43711): ✅ WiFi: works. ✅ Bluetooth: works with some extras, rfkill and bluez: …

Has anyone managed to get Armbian on Orange Pi 5(b) output audio through the 3.5mm jack? The device seems to be recognised, but even after fiddling with everything imaginable through alsamixer, with speaker-test running in the background, I am unable to actually get any sound out. HDMI audio works without any problems. ChatGPT thinks it has something to do with GPIO routings not being properly set up. Hello! First off, thanks for the amazing product you all have created - huge props to everyone who contributes! I have been trying to get Armbian completely working on my Orange Pi 5b for a week now. Most notably: WiFi. Just a few moments ago I set up a new build of Armbian again, on an empty SD card. The one from https://www.armbian.com/orangepi-5/, Armbian 23.5 Jammy Gnome, as the more recent builds' armbian-config don't seem to have an option to enable overlays. After doing the default setup (user, locale, and it asks for "connect via wifi?" but shows no WiFi devices), I ran armbian-config. I go to System -> Hardware, b…

The Debian image that is delivered by Orange Pi itself is giving me access to the EMMC - so it's there with 256GB physically. lsblk shows only the SD card and zram drives. gparted is not starting up after installation at all. This is valid for all official downloadable versions like Jammy, Bullseye, Bookworm... Is there any driver available I would have to activate to use the EMMC device with the Armbian images? I'd really like better to run the board without SD card. Any idea?

I have attempted this with the vendor kernels and the mainline kernels, and they both do the same thing. The vendor kernel cannot see the EMMC at all after running updates on it. So that version would kill itself when updated even if it did install and boot off the emmc. The wifi also doesnt work on the mainline, so the options are mainline with no wifi or vendor with no emmc. Install to SD card --> to through setup wizard --> change firmware to 5b instead of 5.--> reboot --> armbian-install --> boot from emmc, system on emmc ---> spends a long time on counting files ---> file transfer screen flashes by in 1 second. --> shutdown ---> bo…

Hello guys! I bought https://aliexpress.ru/item/1005005675856892.html. As I know, there is no 3D acceleration in Debian Bookworm. So, my desigion is to install Armbian Jammy Gnome desktop. My questions are: 1) In what moment should I perform trick ? 2) Legacy is the only system I can install, or is it any way to install current system? I wish kernel v6 to be installed, but not the RC kernel. My experience with SMB is Rapberry Pi 3 B and 4 B. I used to install only Raspbian on that boards. Wish me luck guys :-))

I apologize in advance if I wrote to the wrong branch. Dear community, a question about OrangePi 5B (board without SPI-flash!). There is only an eMMC on the device. The computer is successfully running on the OS from the Orangepi website, recorded both on the SD card (Baleno Ether) and with eMMC (MaskROM+RKdevtool). At the same time, I see the devices themselves and their partitions, SD card and/or eMMC. The Armbian OS for OrangePi 5/5B/5 Plus (CLI or GUI) written to the SD card loads and works, BUT disk commands DO NOT SEE eMMC, only SD card partitions. In Armbian-config, there is only the Insatall/Update bootloader on SD/eMMC item, which does not change anything. If …

Looked at a lot of other forums posts and it seems to be a common problem for the Orange pi 5B, but all the solutions i've tried hasn't worked. Most of the problems they seemed to have is not updating the armbianEnv.txt to include the "b" for this specific model from the opi 5. Below is the error message I always get whenever trying to boot from the EMMC. Using 6.1 kernel sometimes I can't see the EMMC in /dev, after installing the orange pi Ubuntu image I can see it. After I run armbian-install I can't see it in /dev. I put the orange pi image back on the sd card and I can see the EMMC was installed, the boot/armbianEnv.txt also does have the "b". …

I am a newbie to linux. I installed orange pi os with arch linux from the official site, using rkdevtool and pressing maskrom button. I installed xfce and uninstalled gnome. The OS is stored in the emmc of the pi, and everything boots fine unless i insert the sd card in the designated sd card slot. At first, i had OS arch in that sd card, and when i first plugged it in the pi, the sd card OS booted. I figured that the pi gave priority to the boot section of the sd card, and since i dont need 2 OS on my pi, i decided not to investigate further, and just avoid the problem by wiping the sd card clean. I deleted all the partitions through the Windows Disk Partition app, forma…

Hi all, I've been running the official Orange Pi 1.0.2 Jammy image (grabbed from their drive) since 2023, and I just realized I'm stuck on a 5.10.110 kernel with no real update path. Joshua-Riek/ubuntu-rockchip looked like a great alternative, but it's archived now, so Armbian is my default plan. I've browsed a bunch of threads here about eMMC installs on the 5B being finicky, so before I dive in I'd rather ask around first. Questions: Which Armbian image/branch/version do you run day to day on a 5B, and would you recommend it for a server? Is there a complete, up-to-date install guide for eMMC on the 5B specifically? Do I need t…

Hey guys, I just received an orange pi 5b, pcb says version 1.1. Unfortunately, the HDMI is dead, out of the box. No display is being recognized. The pi boots, though. Then I had a closer look at the HDMI connector on the board. I wonder if the HDMI ever works for anybody. The traces are connected in the wrong place, especially the DDC lines for monitor data and the hotplug detect is mixed up. The picture confirms that. The pin on the lef is supposed to be hotplug detect, but it routed like a differential pair and connects to a capacitor. The other trace of that pair is also in the wrong place. Can some of you confirm that? Do…

Hi All, since i had many problem with my old OPI R1 (without PLUS) I just ordered the newer Model with 1 Gig Ram, RK3328 CPU and two Gigabit Ports. There Is a debian Image available on their Google Drive Share right now, I'll certainly try that out, but Is there a generic Armbian Image as well, I can take? Should be pretty straigt forward Device, I tink.... HDMI Out is not available, only USB Gigabit Ethernet and Rockchip Gigabit Ethernet. Would be great if Hardware encryption for IPSec is also availaibe. Any thoughts? Cheers Ford Prefect

I'm trying to run Armbian on Orange Pi RK3399 board. I have TP50265 permanently shorted to the ground to enable SD card booting. The board starts without any problems with Debian and Ubuntu images downloaded from the manufacturer website, e.g. https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1wAdkC25BmjMwapWahEEQGTvi-yuwo8Gx after the above, kernel boots and the system starts perfectly. However, when I try the images downloaded from Armbian website (both, based on the old kernel, like https://dl.armbian.com/orangepi-rk3399/archive/Armbian_20.02.1_Orangepi-rk3399_bionic_legacy_4.4.213_desktop.7z and the new ones, like https://dl.armbian…

Hi. I'm using an OrangePi RK3399 and if the power supply from the 12V barrel jack is removed, the LTE module connected to the mPCIE port dies. Does anybody know how to make the mPCIE port work while on battery? The mPCIE dying is due to the port being powered from the main power supply line VBUS from the barrel jack (before the BQ25700a battery charger IC, according to the board's schematics). I don't know why power is not supplied from VSYS like everything else on the board. So, what I've found is that if I want to power the mPCIE port from the battery, the reverse OTG mode from the BQ25700a battery charger IC would need to be set (allowing voltage to flow from the bat…

Hello everyone, I recently completed the installation on my OrangePi 3B, and while everything went smoothly during the process, I am currently facing an issue with the audio output. No sound is coming through the HDMI connection. No sound is coming through the 3.5mm audio jack either. I haven't added any images because there are no error messages, just no sound at all. Has anyone else encountered this problem or found a solution? I'd appreciate any tips or guidance on how to resolve this.

Hi all, So if a lot of you maybe know is a heatsink and fan a must for the OrangePi 4. With my temporarly installed fan makes a lot of noise i maked yesterday the step to order a Noctua NF-A4x20 5V PWM. The price was arround €17,- not the cheapest but te reviews are amazing. Even on full speed its a lot more silence then the 20x20 mini fan but with a good air flow. But as you could read did i choose for a PWM variant so i could control the rpm´s with a PWM GPIO pin. And amazingly it did work! I have the PWM pin connected to pin 7 of the OrangePi 4. Commands to start pwm for the first time: cd /sys/class/pwm/pwmchip1/ echo 0 …

I have installed fresh Armbian IOT community image for Orangepi 5 Max on my Opi5Ultra. Generally works fine, but connected camera (OV13850) not properly works. Via gst-launch I got dark images. Only flashlight or lamp can see on image. In original Orangepi 5 Ultra OS image this issue can be fixed by disabling docker and containerd services and sockets. But Armbian system has not any docker or contanerd services. Can you help me fix this issue? I am going try other cameras - OV9281 and IMX415 and I not have overlays for it. Can somebody publish .dtbo files for those cameras?

Is there a specific reason why orangepi cm5 isn't supported? Or is it simply because nobody has contributed? Because I am willing to add support for it if there aren't any serious issues when building armbian for this board. The webpage for the board is currently empty. I see two issues when using Armbian on orangepi cm5: 1. The ethernet and the fan won't work. There is a device tree published by Laurent Pinchart that may fix this. 2. armbian-install bricks the board. The only way to recover the device is by enabling maskrom and using rkdeveloptool to flash a new image. Other than these Armbian seems to work fine on orangepi cm5. …

I've got an OrangePi based on the Rockchip RK3399. The official OrangePi Debian version I'm using is Armbian-based I believe and uses a 5.10 kernel. I want to upgrade the kernel as later ones support some video features of the RK3399 I want to use. The problem is, if I build the kernel using the standard vanilla method from kernel.org sources even using the same config file from the running kernel without changing anything (make olddefconfig), the device won't boot when I symlink the new kernel to /boot/Image. Interestingly, it does boot if I symlink the new initrd to /boot/uInitrd, but only with the old kernel. Is there something special I need to do to the k…

On Rock64, I use youtube-dl CLI app.to download the video (720p) during my off-peak bandwidth time, and watch with MPV or VLC later in fullscreen (1920x1080). It plays OK, but this drives the temperature up to 89-92 ! This is a monitor of the results: http://davekimble.net/problem.video.replay.txt . I think the dropped frames are because of 25 fps v 60 fps of the monitor. I know it is a lot of work, but any ideas for reducing the workload welcome. Anybody else get this?
