Hello all, I am trying to host the rtsp server using gstreamer on armbian. everything is latest and updated. I found, bare rtsp server is taking 3-4% of cpu usage. when I add timestamp and text overlay, cpu goes 23-25%. I was checking if I can enable GPU support, here is output. My system is on NVME, and its working so not sure why error popped. I am connected to wifi, so again not sure why wifi drivers are having issues. however my board never shows it has gpu. can some one guide me ? I have 2 mp camera, not a huge load. again memory is 8GB but never used beyond 1GB, but CPU is most of the time on above 70% dmesg | grep -i error …

Hello everyone, Hello everyone, I have installed Armbian Bookworm 23.11.1 (kernel 5.10.110). The fan control does not work. The fan only runs at level 1. None of the many patches I tried worked. The last one tried was this: https://forum.radxa.com/t/guide-on-how-to-customize-you-pwm-fan-curve/17442 I can adjust the fan manually, but the automatic doesn't work. The "policy" file (/sys/class/thermal/thermal_zone0/policy) cannot be permanently changed to "step wise" (logged in as root). After restarting it is back to "user_space"... The access rights are: -rw-r--r--1 root root 4096 Feb 11 02:42 policy …

Hi, I own a NanoPi M4 and I am wondering how to get the USB OTG working. I would like to set up Ethernet via USB OTG on my NanoPi M4. The only reference I can find is with https://vjordan.info/log/fpga/nanopi-neo-usb-otg-with-armbian-mainline-4x-kernel.html and I want to know if the steps are similar for NanoPi M4.

Hi, I had to change the Rack 1 HDD because I got an email telling me that this disk was broken. So I ordered new discs to make my replacement. When I put my new disk my problem started. For information my old disk was perfectly visible before I changed it and the led was functional too. I have a strange problem and I'm afraid it's hardware. Currently I have Rack 1 (HDD 1) which no longer detects my disks, there are no more LEDs lighting up, we can clearly hear the HDD lighting up, but it is not visible in the CLI and not via the WebUI. Im using OMV 6.x with kernel 5.15.89 (current) stable RAID 6 with 5 x 8To Have try…

Hi All, thanks for this great project, much appreciated! Could someone give me an educated guess whether there is a risk of damaging my board when the blue LED is flashing much faster (at least twice, probably more) than usual? I suspect something is changing the frequency or voltage and I'm not sure how much time I can take in this state to try to analyze the problem further. For now I unplug the power when it happens. I'm trying to netboot my Rock Pi 4B v1.4 with the current or dev branches of buster minimal nfsboot, with no local storage at all (just the SPI flash for u-boot). The legacy 4.4 hangs at very early boot (couldn't get clock / Failed to g…

Hello all, I have a RockPi 4B in use and wanted to connect my 7" display from Raspberry via the display port. According to these instructions, it should also work. https://wiki.radxa.com/Rockpi4/hardware/display#Raspberry_Pi_7_inch_Touch_Display But unfortunately I can't find this file under "boot" because I'm using an ARMBIAN image. How can I address this 7" display? Can anyone help me here? Best regards from Berlin Z. Matthias

Hi - First let me say how gratefull I am for an Armbian version that works with my NanoPi M4 board! I am using the board as a web server and it is rock solid. My question is about the information that is displayed when I log in to my board using SSH. There is information about cpu temp, up time, etc. How is this information extracted and displayed? I am a Linux noob and I would like to understand how to get the cpu temp and other info to use at other times. Please help me as I am just starting out with SBC's. thanks---jb.

Hello all, I have a question today regarding ARMBIAN - Linux and the configuration of the ZRAM .... Under the ARMBIAN for RockPI 4 I have a ZRAM for the SWAP and a ZRAM for /var/log. Is it possible that I change this configuration and use the eMMC memory for these two areas? Because the big problem with /var/log is that it is simply too small and thus constantly runs into "ERROR" -> volume full. Thank you very much and I am looking forward to constructive contributions to solve my problem. Kind regards

Hi community, I am experiencing an issue reinstalling Armbian on my Helios64. I tried all methods including booting from an SD card, flashing the image onto the eMMC directly but every time I boot, I get kernel panic (flashing status light). I also can't connect to the USB via TTY to diagnose the issue. My macbook keeps detecting the /dev/tty.usbserial-DT03OEIM and the next second it is gone. I wanted to install the original Buster image but I cannot find it anymore in any of the archives. It's kind of disappointing because what's the purpose of an archive then if not hold on to an image for a few years. My current theories…

Good day, I'm looking for help adding touchscreen support to the ROCKPI 4 Legacy Kernel and correct screen configuration settings. Im new to SBC development so I'm still learning the build system. I have taken the time to track down, what I believe, are the commits to add basic support for the "Raspberry Pi 7" Touchscreen" to the kernel. I believe their will be changes needed to rootfs so that the display manager recognizes it and sets it up properly. Hi All, I am on my Helios64 (already have a Helios4). I am running 2 x 8TB, 1x 256 M2, OMV5 debian etc. I have ZFS running (from the wiki instructions) in a basic mirror format, and if I add a few drives I think it would still be a mirror, however I have the following question. It seems far more complicated than MDADM, and potentially more unstable (not in terms of the underlying technology, but in terms of changing these kernals etc every week). Do you think for an average home user that this is really worth it or will constantly need work? To change it would mean starting again, but I do not want to change the setup every month and wo…

This happened out of the blue, without indication of anything else being wrong. I just noticed that NFS stalled, and realized that the server is not on the network. The system on the box was running fine, but there were no lights on the network connector (it is connected with the upper, 1Gb, adapter). I replugged the cable into the 2.5G socket and it went online. Then I powered the box off and on again, with the cable in the 1G socket, and it came online normally. This is what I found in dmesg/syslog: Aug 31 09:31:39 localhost kernel: [379809.423687] NETDEV WATCHDOG: eth0 (rk_gmac-dwmac): transmit queue 0 timed out Aug 31 09:31:39 localhost kernel: [379809.424…

I have a Helios64 that I recently reinstalled/updated to the latest Armbain Jammy image after not updating for quite some time and finding some of the repos to be dead. Without the drives initialized the system seems like it will run for days, but with the drives initialized (ZFS), I will get the below error after a few hours of uptime (~8-10 hours). I have seen some threads saying to set the CPU clock to one speed to fix the issue and some people installing a newer kernel (via beta.armbian.com). If anyone has any thoughts on how I could try and make this more stable I would appreciate it. [477435.475903] rcu: INFO: rcu_preempt self-detected stall on CPU [477…

Hi. I'm new here and have a small issue. Situation is: I'm using the T4 board for an amateur radio repeater controller. The repeater works in an unmanned relay station 10 kilometers from the my home. To have access by remote even if the boot hangs for some reasons (maintenance mode), I have connected the debug uart (ttyS2) to a serial-to-IP adapter to have access anyway. Because the IP adapter cannot set up to 1.5 MBps, I have reduced the speed down to 115 kbps by changing the kernel argument in the boot.cmd from console=ttyS2,1500000 to console=ttyS2,115200. That worked well with the Armbian 5.69 stretch 4.4.167 kernel. Now I have made…

After happily using my helios64 with armbian buster for years I finally dared to upgrade and everything went smoothly. I found instructions somewhere here in this forum and this is what I did. I first commented out /etc/apt/sources.list.d/armbian.list Then I upgraded to bullseye by replacing everything buster with bullseye in /etc/apt/sources.list (I think I also had to change the url to the security repo) Then I did apt-get update && apt full-upgrade and rebooted. Great success! Then the same for bookworm and again great success. Then reenabled the armbian …

I first made a self-built image for nanopi-r2s and everything is fine. But another self-built image of Nanopi-R2S seems refuse to boot after enabling these configurations: `DEBUG_INFO_DWARF_TOOLCHAIN_DEFAULT`, then `DEBUG_INFO_BTF` and `MODULE_ALLOW_BTF_MISMATCH` But the LED on RJ45 blinks, and I can ping the IP that I get from my router DHCP, but SSH connection refused. So I guess it may have booted, but refuse SSH connection. I have no TTL serial connections yet, I'll check it and post the logs here some time later. Can anybody help? How can I enable ssh with? Is it possible to enable it at build stage? Thanks.

I seem to have hit another problem with my Helios64. It seems that overnight, HDs 4 and 5 disappeared and no longer seem to be powered. I've disconnected all the other drives and tried it with just 4, and it seems to be a power problem as the drive activity light seems to light up for a short while, but not at full prightness. Also I note that SATA 4 and 5 are on a separate power line to the other 3. Anyone seen this before? Is it fixable?

Such error messages pop up constantly when doing certain operations, like: mmc2: running CQE recovery And also some of these: EXT4-fs warning (device mmcblk2p1): ext4_end_bio:349: I/O error 10 writing to inode 256 starting block 968704) As well as these: kernel: print_req_error: 47 callbacks suppressed kernel: blk_update_request: I/O error, dev mmcblk2, sector 7716864 op 0x1:(WRITE) flags 0x4000 phys_seg 8 prio class 0 kernel: Buffer I/O error on device mmcblk2p1, logical block 954373 A…

On Rock64, I use youtube-dl CLI app.to download the video (720p) during my off-peak bandwidth time, and watch with MPV or VLC later in fullscreen (1920x1080). It plays OK, but this drives the temperature up to 89-92 ! This is a monitor of the results: http://davekimble.net/problem.video.replay.txt . I think the dropped frames are because of 25 fps v 60 fps of the monitor. I know it is a lot of work, but any ideas for reducing the workload welcome. Anybody else get this?

I was trying to avoid opening a new instability topic, but this one seems different enough from the others to deserve it's own discussion. A few days ago I applied the 1G fix (pic attached) to the 2.5G port - which was not in use until then, since all my hardware is 1G max. I did this with the intention of using both ports: the 1G port goes to an isolated VLAN that serves VM images to my Proxmox hosts, and the 2.5G interface (running at 1G speed) serves files to the rest of my network. While the fix appears to work and the port is able to communicate at 1G speeds seemingly fine, after changing to this setup I'm experiencing frequent drops in the USB bus, which c…

Hello. I'm trying to get the PWM2 and 3 to work on RockPi E. I made a custom dts to enable PWM2, loaded using armbian-add-overlay: /dts-v1/; /plugin/; / { compatible = "rockchip,rk3328"; fragment@0 { target = <0xffffffff>; __overlay__ { status = "okay"; }; }; __fixups__ { pwm2 = "/fragment@0:target:0"; }; }; But the kernel doesn't boot: Any idea? Hello I would like to know if it is possible to have 2 partions on the emmc. Indeed My emmc have 256go for only the os armbian with OMV (2.5go only used). I would like to have for example a boot partition with size of 50go and an other partition for my data (200go). However when I use armbian-config the full emmc is formated. If a solution exist could you please share with me the solution. Thanks in advance for your support.

I installed Armbian on my R5s Armbian 23.8 Bookworm Kernel 6.5, Size: 479Mb, Release date: Sep 18, 2023 On this version, I find the classical problem : a module I want to build does not build. Reason ? apt says : Coundn’t find any package by glob ‘linux-headers-6.5.3-edge-odroid’ And make creates an error because “build” directory is not found. I can find the linux-headers-6.5.3 : https://cdn.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/v6.x/linux-6.5.3.tar.gz But where can I find the odroid version ?

Hi, I have bricked my system by installing the rk3399 legacy multmedia framework. It was installed on emmc. I was able to recover my system by using the P11 jumper to skip the boot on emmc, as explained in the doc, and now my system runs on a SDCard. The problem is, it seems that I cannot access the EMMC anymore -- it does not show up /dev. My intuition is that the P11 jumper disables the EMMC altogether. Am I write and if so, how can I access the EMMC again? I would like to be able to read it again (I had important data, notably unison synchronization files) and reinstall a fresh OS on it. Any help would be welcome!

If you want to build out-of-tree kernel modules, you will need: kernel headers (installed with apt) kernel sources in /usr/src (cloned from git) kernel config (from /proc/config.gz) some preparation of the sources (but you can avoid building it 😉) # Install kernel headers apt install -y linux-headers-legacy-rk35xx # Install kernel source cd /usr/src git clone https://github.com/armbian/linux-rockchip.git ln -nsf linux-rockchip linux-5.10.160-legacy-rk35xx cd linux-rockchip git checkout rk-5.10-rkr6 # Prepare kernel source zcat /proc/config.gz >.config yes | make olddefconfig make prepare modules_prepare cp /usr/src/linux-headers-$…

On my NanoPi R6C I downloaded the Armbian 23.11 Bookworm CLI and booted the machine from the SD card. Then I installed gnome and firefox. Most things works so far, but I get no sound over hdmi (there is no headphone jack). The gnome - settings - sound shows only the dummy device. Youtube videos play ok, but somewhat laggy and with very high processor load (all cores close to 100% on the gnome system monitor).

I was in the middle of assessing which new firmware to use on a set of OrangePi 5 Max, since the future of Joshua Riek's one is uncertain, and after installing the corresponding Armbian release I was welcomed with a notorious message warning me not to use it in production. I understand that it's community maintained, but is it really unsafe to use for production projects? Since Armbian seems to be the most popular distribution I wanted to double check before moving on to the next.

Hello. So, really sorry to hear that Team Kobol are disbanding. Many thanks to all who worked so hard to put the Helios64 together. I am really pleased with my Helios64, and am grateful for being able to get hold of one of these. Thank you! 🙏 What with one thing an another, I never got hold of a UPS battery; the battery couldn't be shipped with the original shipment, due to restrictions on shipping Li-Ion batteries; and then the additional postage costs for sending the battery seperately were prohibitive for Team Kobol, which I completely understand, so I chose not to pay the extra for the battery. However, it would be really useful for me to build…

I am using rk3588-sd-debian-bookworm-core-6.1-arm64-20250123.img.gz It is excellent asides from lacking NPU support. Before I go down the path of learning kernel compilation and scanning poorly documented Rockchip repositories, has anyone got a current version of Armbian that includes NPU support? If not, is there any good guide to using a cross-compile system and integrating third part drivers?. On a slightly different topic I would prefer to not use fuse file systems and run off the NVME drive directly. Are there any resources on this?

Hi all, For most Nanopi devices there are packages in the registry which contain the u-boot files, for example: https://mirrors.dotsrc.org/armbian-apt/pool/main/l/linux-u-boot-nanopi-r4s-current/ Is there a reason these packages aren't present for the Nanopi R6S? The reason behind this question is that I used to extract the u-boot from these packages to experiment with other OS'es which have no official release for a certain device. Of course I can get the u-boot from the downloadable images its first couple bytes, but downloading just the package is way smaller. If there is another source to obtain the u-boot blobs I am all ears. …

When using the "boot from SD install to NVMe" option of armbian-config it offered the option to format the NVMe drive with btrfs. When I selected that option, it briefly flashed an error about the partition being too small (even though I had created a 120GB partition). The actual problem appears to have been that btrfs-progs was not installed. After installing that package and rerunning armbian-config it was possible to btrfs format and install successfully. The initial installation went fine from the flashed image on SD card, and still works fine. However, after using armbian-config to attempt to transfer the OS and bootloader to the eMMC card, nothing actually changes. It says it formats the card and then goes through the process of transferring the files, or at least it looks like it does. But when I reboot it it's still running on the SD card and no files appear to have been transferred to the eMMC. fstab lists the UUID of the SD card and not the eMMC at all; this is also true of the bootenv section of armbian-config. One thing I did notice is that there are some new directories under /mnt : '/mnt/nand-sata-in…

Greetings, I can't seem to find any documentation on how to access the only PWM port on the Nano M4 which happens to reside on the 2nd set of pins. It's listed as GPIO2 and the PWM pin is pin 23 which they label as GPIO_C6/PWM1(3V). SInce any documentation I find on GPIO has to do with the 40 pin port, how can I program the PWM using wiringPI-Python? I wonder why Nano chose to disregard the other PWM pins that other Raspberry Pi type boards retained like the Asus Tinkerboard. Or am I missing something? If so, can someone enlighten me as to how to access PWM on the Nano M4. Preferably using Python 3.

I didn't know where to put this, but there is no forum for Orange Pi 5 Pro?

Has anyone managed to get Armbian on Orange Pi 5(b) output audio through the 3.5mm jack? The device seems to be recognised, but even after fiddling with everything imaginable through alsamixer, with speaker-test running in the background, I am unable to actually get any sound out. HDMI audio works without any problems. ChatGPT thinks it has something to do with GPIO routings not being properly set up. I'm running Armbian 25.2.3 noble (through `apt-get dist-upgrade`; I had to first install an older version from the archives to avoid bricking when installing on the eMMC). $ aplay -l **** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices **** c…

RockPi 4 Model C support will come in the near future?

Hi, I'm struggling to get some sound through a PCM5102a module connected to GPIOs. I guess I've to make a dts-overlay to enable it on i2s0 but I didn't succeed, I'm very new to that. Could anyone tell me how to achieve that ? Many thanks for your work !

I have a new nanopi m4v2 and I downloaded the latest focal version today Armbian_20.08.1_Nanopim4v2_focal_current_5.8.6_desktop.img.xz Boots with uboot successfully, but after showing the message "Starting kernel ...", serial is blank. Green SYS LED glows couple of times and then both LEDs are off. I assume the system has powered off as there are no more signs of being up. I am using the usbttl from friendly elec and a samsung EVO 32G microsd. I am attaching the last uboot logs until "start kernel ..." msg Any clue as to why the board is not booting? m4v2_uboot_log.txt

Hi folks I'm running a fresh install of the Debian branch with 5.X Kernel branch. I got 2 new 4TB HD setup with MDAM in RAID 1 mode to store my photo and documents with Syncloud also running on the HELIOS64. I Got also a 2,5 Sata drive mount and share via Samba to my home network. My Helios64 is plugged via the 2,5GB Ethernet port directly to my Router on the 2,5GB port. I didn't fix the hardware bug, but if I understood it's not necessary in my case ( 2,5GB Ethernet on a 2,5GB Ethernet Router) My problem is that on the same router I got an Apple TV (on ethernet port too) with Infuse app on IT. And there is the problem I got big…

Hey, Was able to bring up a pretty smooth armbian installation for a lightweight desktop. Tips for others: Underclock Memory for stability cat /etc/rc.local #!/bin/sh echo 1560000000 > /sys/devices/platform/dmc/devfreq/dmc/max_freq For bluetooth blacklist the following modules: blacklist pgdrv blacklist btusb blacklist btrtl blacklist btbcm blacklist btintel NVME boot, use armbian-installer, but I had to manually change the firmware to this one: https://wiki.radxa.com/Rock5/install/spi#Simple_method to get NVME boot to work For GPU acceleration install panfrost. (See rock5b ambian page) To get my wid…

I have Rockpi 4b v1.4 and Armbian 20.05, kernel 5.4.49, installed and booted from NVME drive. For last months survived all minor Armbian updates, but after upgrading to 20.08 ( to kernel 5.8.10) board doesn't want boot. Steps to reproduce: 1.1 get Armbian_20.05.3_Rockpi-4b_buster_current_5.4.45.img.xz and write it to EMMC. 1.2 Boot board from EMMC, apt-get update, apt-get upgrade. Kernel upgrades from 5.4.49 to 5.8.12 1.3 Reboot. Board reboots fine. 2.1 get Armbian_20.05.3_Rockpi-4b_buster_current_5.4.45.img.xz and write it to NVME drive. Add fdtfile=rockchip/rk3399-rock-pi-4.dtb and overlays=pcie-gen2 to armbianEnv.txt. …

My OPI will turn on but it shows android os via hdmi. I don't have a micro SD card and would like to install bullseye via usb instead. i've attempted ssh into the OPI via wifi and direct usb connect, but it denies the connection. I have the OPI on wifi and can see it on my network. i've tried using android adb to no use. is there a way to install armbian WITHOUT using a micro SD at all?

I had some troubles with the latest build (Armbian_23.05.0-trunk_Orangepi5_lunar_legacy_5.10.110). First I had to restore the 5b specific device tree (rk3588s-orangepi-5b.dts) because with the modified rk3588s-orangepi-5.dts the Wi-Fi and the eMMC doesn't work. So far everything works fine with the exception of the bluetooth. After each boot I have to manually attach it: hciattach /dev/ttyS9 any ...otherwise the hci_uart module is not loaded and no hci device is available. Once attached the bluetooth works fine and I can pair my mouse with it, but not my bluetooth keyboard?!? Seems like the adapter doesn't even detect the keyboard. W…
