I upgraded from my own-compiled Armbian kernel 6.8.0-rc5 to 6.8.4 and there are now very annoying stall when for example I drag a KDE Konsole window. Also when I play a 1080p50 HEVC video, as son as a move the mouse, the whole video stalls. Besides 6.8.0-rc5, the normal apt provide 6.8.1-edge-rockchip-rk3588 also works OK. 6.8.5 has the same issue as 6.8.4. As indicated, I use KDE, X11, compositor disabled. Enabled makes no difference. OS base is Armbian Bookworm, but I have also used kernels 6.8.1 and 6.8.4 with a rootfs copied from an RaspberryPiOS and Opensuse-Tumbleweed. RPiOs is also Debian Bookworm, Tumbleweed is latest, KDE6. So it is not KD…

Good morning gentlemen, I have just discovered that one of the cores on my RockPi4B is faulty and often causes segfaults and crashes, I can disable the suspect core by issuing the following command $ sudo echo 0 | sudo tee /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu2/online However, this is fine if the machine has booted, but i want to disable the faulty core as early on in the boot process as possible. Is it possible to disable the core in the uboot environment, or could someone offer me some advice as to the best time to disable the core? Thanks, Leon.

hey, this change https://github.com/armbian/build/pull/2010/files made my rockpi-4b (with 4GB ram) finally stable some time ago DDR_BLOB='rk33/rk3399_ddr_933MHz_v1.20.bin' #instead of 1.24 After messing with rx/tx offloading, this was the solution, no more failed apt and download errors, great! It seems that this change got lost in the transition to the new u-boot / different logical structure or is not needed anymore for the 1GB models it was mentioned originally, see here: https://github.com/armbian/build/commit/f2db96252530d2f5585755b518e7fd020b5f0392#diff-18c1f509b638f24dc14854e6af5173bb Any chance to get it back for rockpi-4…

Very interested in the Helios64, but can't help but to notice the rockchip cpu in it is 5+ years old at this point. Any plans to upgrade it to a more modern cpu? At this price range I'd probably lean towards an Odroid H2+ with a celeron J1114 chip which has like 2-3x the multicore performance and a similar TDP

I'm sick of having to play reset-it-until-it-boots-then-it-reboots-later game, anyone know a similar motherboard I can use in place of the helios64 with minimal extra messing around? I totally understand that the front and back panel will be a problem to set up, I just don't want to have to hack the main case part, and have support for the five SATA ports.

Hey guys, I just received an orange pi 5b, pcb says version 1.1. Unfortunately, the HDMI is dead, out of the box. No display is being recognized. The pi boots, though. Then I had a closer look at the HDMI connector on the board. I wonder if the HDMI ever works for anybody. The traces are connected in the wrong place, especially the DDC lines for monitor data and the hotplug detect is mixed up. The picture confirms that. The pin on the lef is supposed to be hotplug detect, but it routed like a differential pair and connects to a capacitor. The other trace of that pair is also in the wrong place. Can some of you confirm that? Do…

When I reboot with kernel 6.8.4 (edge) installed by apt upgrade, I noticed my scripts that uses snapper for remove differential backups. It turns out that, if no cleanup algorithm option is used, snapshot is created. Before the reboot, with kernel 6.8.1 version, there was no issue. I on Armbian Bookworm, but also with other Debian Bookworm based OS running those same kernel binaries. Same failure with 6.8.5 Currently I don't know any more, I could run this faulty kernel in a VM as the .config is such that it also boots on virt hardware (virt-7.2 as Bookworm uses). EDIT: Also in a VM, the problem is there: root@armbian64:/tmp# sn…

I'm considering buying a Rock64 4GB to use a Docker server running media apps (plex, sonarr, radarr, jackett, smb, etc). I already have a 64GB SD card available for this system, probably overkill, but I have it. I noticed another post saying the SD card performance is not what it could be. I'd like to hear from other have a similar setup to what I'm thinking about. Does it perform well enough for what you're using it for? What are you using it for? What kind of samba through put do you get on the USB2 and USB3 (perhaps with the USB3->SATA adapter) Thanks.

Hello, I've bought 3 new identical drives and put 2 of them in the Helios64 and 1 onto my desktop. I ran smartctl longtest+shortest on both drives simultanously but all of them were aborted/interupted by host. `# /usr/sbin/smartctl -a /dev/sda` Output: http://ix.io/2OLt On my desktop the longtest from smartctl succeeds without error and all 3 drives received the same care, I just bough them and installed them, so unlikely the drives are physically damaged. The complete diagnostic log: http://ix.io/2OBr So anyone got an idea why are my SMART extended tests being canceled? Note: I've tried ev…

Hey everyone, I need some assistance with a problem I'm facing. I recently attempted to attach a 5V cooler to my Orange Pi 4 board, but unfortunately, nothing seems to be happening. I even used a multi-meter to measure the voltage, and it consistently shows 0.0V. To ensure I connected everything correctly, I consulted online diagrams and made sure I was using the appropriate pins. Currently, I am powering my Orange Pi 4 using the USB-C connection. Could this be the cause of the issue? Should I change to use the power jack connection? I would greatly appreciate any help or suggestions you can provide. Thank you in advance.

Now the mainline u-boot has decent pcie and pcie phy driver for rk3399. The only deficiency is the clock of pcie phy not included. The first attached patch add this clock so that u-boot proper can load linux kernel residing in an ext4 partition of nvme ssd.pcie_phy_clk.patch The second patch enables loading the environment from a file in an ext4 partition of nvme ssd.env_nvme.patch More conveniently the u-boot proper(u-boot.itb) could be an ordinary file residing in an ext4 partition of nvme ssd. The idbloader(tpl/spl in spi/emmc/sdcard) could load it if pcie nvme support is enabled in spl. That's the third attachment.spl_nvme.patch Th…

Hi there, I wanted to share with everyone here the final product - a gaming handheld we've designed from scratch in Solidworks. I've been working on this with a fellow Armbian contributor @GinKage for quite some time (probably over a year now... time really does fly) who has helped me learn a lot on the software side, which I wasn't really familiar with before I reached out to him. Hi, I've downloaded the latest two images from the links mentioned https://disk.yandex.ru/d/-zSW21XKN0pfIA/ArmbianTV/20230103-edge But none of them boot from SD on my M3 box. The only one booting is the image from this link https://redirect.armbian.com/station-m3/Bullseye_legacy_xfce But this makes the cooling fan on the M3 to always spin at full speed and it's not usable because of this (it's really noisy). How can I make the other images boot? Tried both Etcher and USBimager. Please help. Thanks.

The following image boots fine from microSD card on my RockPI4a (2GByte): https://dl.radxa.com/rockpi/images/third-party/Armbian_5.67_Rockpi4b_Debian_stretch_default_4.4.154_desktop_20181210-gpt.img.gz Unfortunately, that images' kernel does not seem to include an AHCI driver, so it does not find the 5 SATA port miniPCIe controller. i am using. I installed tvheadend on Armbian 22.08 Jammy and Bullseye using the 5.15 kernel. Tvheadend runs fine for a while and then freezes and disconnects filling the log file with the following message: rock64 kernel : au0828: recv_control_msg() Failed receiving control message, error -71. At first I thought it was a problem with Jammy, but I still had the same problem on Bullseye. So I switched to the legacy kernel 4.4.213-rockchip64 and I do not have the problem. There is a problem with the usage of armbian-config on activating overlays. The entry in armbianEnv.txt includes the prefix in the overlay name. This can be workarounded manually, e.g. for w1-gpio the correct entry needs to be: overlays=rk3399-w1-gpio2 If anyone can point me to the source code I maybe can provide a PR to fix it. Another problem is the content of the overlay of this w1-gpio. After activating the dmesg give an error (the first w…

I want to use the mainline u-boot spl to load the u-boot proper(u-boot.itb) from nvme, so that the only part off the nvme is the tpl/spl in the emmc/sd/spi flash. But now the mainline u-boot has no pcie driver and no nvme support in spl. I have found the radxa guys using their u-boot in spi flash to boot kernel from nvme. But their pcie driver(https://github.com/radxa/u-boot/commit/096f2c16bbfa24c93a4c87e31334d5b5064dfd0a) has a limitation: It can not be used in u-boot spl, or it would not function properly in u-boot proper and fail the boot. After some frustrating tryings and compare with the linux driver, I found that the port initialization proce…

Hi, I've installed Armbian Jammy on a Rock 3A. It seemed to run very stable, (much more so than the Rock 64) however the first IMPORTENT issue I've found is that the system appears to freeze when Chromium is launched as well as VSCodium. That is to say I loose mouse and keyboard control, so I can't tell what else may be effected. There may be others, still checking. Any help appreciated.

Hello I need to change a drive in the Helios64, and so I bought a new WD 2TB drive. Using a WD My Book 111D USB enclosure, I have partitioned, formatted and copied the data from the old drive. I can't understand what's happening, when I plug it back through USB everything is back to normal. Does the partitioning through USB differ somehow??? It appears as if the partition table "stays in the USB enclosure", which doesn't make sense for me. Is there something to try? Do I have to start again the process in the NAS enclosure? I…

With the recent update of the kernel "edge" package (6.8.11-edge-rockchip64) when the system boots. interfaces get different names (they used to be "end0" and "eth1" before, and now they are "eth0" and "eth1"), but more importantly, they both show different MAC address (the old address returns when previous kernel is booted). The switch monitoring indicates always 2 errors. I know about the Hardware issue of Lan-Port2, but it only effect 1Gbit transfer. Nevertheless in the Network are also mixed with 1Gbit clients. Hello, I have been holding onto kernel 5.10 (5.10.21-rockchip64 to be exact) for a while as it has been pretty stable for me and also because I heard bad feedback from newer kernels on the Helios 64. But with the recent discovery of the DirtyPipe exploit (which has been introduced in Linux 5.8), I might be looking to upgrade to the latest Armbian kernel (which contains a fix to the vulnerability). So, my question to fellow Helios64 users is: have you encountered any issue with kernel 5.15, especially when using OpenMediaVault 5, Docker, MergerFS and NFS?

Has anyone here tested the Rock64 successfully with an u-boot version which is not the one from ayufan? I did not have much luck with the rk3328 default config and mainline u-boot when I tried it a while back. The same is true when I tried to use the board config from ayufan with mainline u-boot. The version by ayufan is working in principle but also is rather dated as far as I know and therefore does not support some newer features. Anyone knows if the version from ayufan will be bumped or has a working config for a more recent u-boot version?

Hi, i really tried to get SPI as spidev to work on my RockPI 4A (Rev. 1.4), using armbianEnv.txt and DT overlays however nothing works as it seems it is just ignored. So does anybody have an idea of how to get SPI working in spidev mode? Because I have board which I want to connect via SPI.

There seems to be some issue with the very early bootup on the rockpi-S using the dev or current target (not the 4.4 kernel) It hangs and requires a reboot, something like every 4th bootup works. I have a bunch of logs with various errors like: Kernel panic - not syncing: stack-protector: Kernel stack is corrupted in: add_uevent_var+0x12c/0x130 [ccff800010110d58] address between user and kernel address ranges Kernel panic - not syncing: stack-protector: Kernel stack is corrupted in: vsnprintf+0x724/0x728 This usually happens about 2.7 - 2.8 seconds into bootup. A few Armbian packages were updated (armbian-bsp-cli-helios64, armbian-config, armbian-firmware &armbian-zsh) to version 21.05.08. At some point I noticed that the fancontrol service had failed to start up after the reboot - it was complaining about a file missing(/dev/thermal-cpu). If you run into this after the update, just update your /etc/fancontrol to the content below and your fancontrol should go back to normal. # Helios64 PWM Fan Control Configuration # Temp source : /dev/thermal-cpu # After 21.05.08 [2021.08.10] # Temp source : /dev/thermal-board INTERVAL=10 # FCTEMPS=/dev/fan-p6/pwm1=/dev/thermal-cpu/temp1_input /dev/fan-p7/pwm1=/dev/th…

Hi, I received my new rock64 today and I downloaded this image https://dl.armbian.com/rock64/Debian_stretch_default_desktop.7z I used Etcher as recommended to create the SD card and booted off of it with just power and network connected as I assumed it would boot, assign a dhcp address and bring up sshd so I could remote onto it. I scanned my network to see if any new devices had been added with dhcp, but couldn't see anything new so I connected the rock64 up to a TV and then booted it up, connected up a keyboard and noticed it ran through an install process on first local login. I followed all the directions and a desktop appeared on s…

Hey! I recently accidentally made my eMMC unbootable. I ordered this adapter, but the eMMC isn't getting picked up by any of my microSD adapters. Is there a way to hotplug the eMMC chip while booting from SD, like with the Pinebook Pro (which is also RK3399 based)? I'd really like to either repair or clear the eMMC so i could continue using it. Thanks!

I'm trying to enable i2c3 on my orange pi 5b, according to the user manual, i2c is disabled on the 26 header pins by default, and to enable them, you need to edit the /boot/orangepiEnv.txt file, however, my orange pi doesn't have that file. I tried creating a new file and copying the required instructions, then restarted linux, but it still didn't work. Has anyone encountered a similar issue or does anyone know how to resolve this?

I followed in detail the installation tutorial but I'm stuck at the installation of OMV. I can't access after the installation using the ip address or the generic link helios.local. I did try to reinstall the configuration. To go through a boot on the Micro SD... I don't know if there would be a command line to verify that OMV is installed? Or another way to install it?

Hi all, built an image for the nanopi m4v2 today using this command line from the build folder ./compile.sh BOARD=nanopim4v2 BRANCH=current BUILD_DESKTOP=no BUILD_MINIMAL=no KERNEL_CONFIGURE=no RELEASE=jammy the build completed successfuly so I flashed it to an sdcard, the problem is is won't boot, I used my newly found skill ( thanks @Werner ) and connected my UART serial TTL cable. The output is rather verbose so apologies up front - does this mean anything to anyone here. The build is the same as I normally do and it's worked fine until today.

Have tested the Orange Pi 5 Ultra and the Armbian Linux v6.1 vendor IOT image for the 5 "Max" model, using the same Max' `rk3588-orangepi-5-max.dtb` FDT file works better than with the rk3588-orangepi-5-ultra.dtb (extracted from the old official Orange Pi image), as surprisingly, dmesg shows less errors with the Max DTB. Tested: ✅ eMMC works. HDMI ports: ✅ Port 1 out works fine. ❓ Haven't tested the port 2 input. Would guess it doesn't work as the Max has bot ports as output. It’s been 3 months since we posted on our blog. While we have been pretty active on Armbian/Kobol forum for support and still working at improving the software support and stability, we have been developing in parallel the new iteration of Helios64 around the latest Rockchip SoC RK3568. However things haven’t been progressing as fast as we would have wished. Looking back, 2020 has been a very challenging year to deliver a new product and it took quite a toll on the small team we are. Our energy level is a bit low and we still haven’t really recovered. Now with electronic part prices surge and crazy lead time, it’s even harder to have business visibility in an …

Hi all. Some time ago, in the release notes of a past Armbian version, I remember reading that the network LED should now be enabled by default and associated with eth0. Despite always keeping my Helios64 as up-to-date as possible, mine never lit up, but I didn't think much of it. Today I decided to investigate why, and I'm not sure where to go from here. First things first, the LED works, it's not a hardware issue. I can echo 1 and 0 to the LED path (/sys/class/leds/helios64:blue:net/brightness) and it lights on and off as expected. From what I can tell, this LED, along with the heartbeat one, is enabled by the Systemd unit helios64-hear…

I apologize in advance if I wrote to the wrong branch. Dear community, a question about OrangePi 5B (board without SPI-flash!). There is only an eMMC on the device. The computer is successfully running on the OS from the Orangepi website, recorded both on the SD card (Baleno Ether) and with eMMC (MaskROM+RKdevtool). At the same time, I see the devices themselves and their partitions, SD card and/or eMMC. The Armbian OS for OrangePi 5/5B/5 Plus (CLI or GUI) written to the SD card loads and works, BUT disk commands DO NOT SEE eMMC, only SD card partitions. In Armbian-config, there is only the Insatall/Update bootloader on SD/eMMC item, which does not change anything. If …

Hi, I'm wondering if the NanoPi M4 can be made to work with a PiTFT 320x240 screen? When I set up the /dev/fb0 device and write to it, the display simply stays black/white (each time I write to the display only the shades change). NanoPi M4 has a different GPIO set-up from Raspberry Pi 3b+ (which PiTFT works with). Is there a possibility that the NanoPi M4's GPIO could be rewired in a way that it would support the PiTFT? E.g. Tinkerboard runs under RK3288 (vs M4's RK3399) and has the same GPIO layout as the RPi 3B+, so it could maybe be made possible?

Hello. Good day. I managed to installed Android on the OrangePi RK3399 using the Linux_Upgrade_tool (v 1.49), but, I'm struggling to get the board to boot back to Linux. Not sure if this is the place for this since it isn't really a software issue, but... So I decided to take apart my Helios64 to apply the 2.5Gb/1Gb Ethernet fix and things went badly. I ended up accidentally destroying the 402 caps on one of the SATA ports by scrapping the board against the standoffs as I was pulling it out of the case. As far as I can tell, they should be part of the SATA standard, 10nF DC blocking caps, so I have a rough idea of what they might have been but I don't know for sure since they are simply gone. Does anyone happen to know what those caps were or have access to a circuit diagram or BOM I could referenc…
