Finally there is a proper tor-browser available for arm64/aarch64: 1. Goto https://nightlies.tbb.torproject.org/nightly-builds/tor-browser-builds/ 2. Navigate into: tbb-nightly.<date>/nightly-linux-aarch64/ 3. Download tor-browser-linux-aarch64-tbb-nightly.<date>.tar.xz 4. Unpack with tar -Jxvf and run tor-browser/start-tor-browser.desktop Yay! (I'm sure you can compile it too from their github page)

Every time I tried to log on to ssh on my rock-s0 with armbian, there would be a delay of like 5 seconds. I found a solution that fixes this problem. This thread is partly a PSA about this solution, and a question about whether this solution is a good idea or not. The trick is to change UsePAM=yes , to UsePAM=no , in the /etc/ssh/sshd_config file. But I heard some people online say this is a bad idea, but I don't understand PAM enough to know why. I am only going to use ssh in a basic password-authenticated, LAN environment. Do I really need PAM? The only side-effect I noticed is that it no longer shows the MOTD when logging in.

I fixed in the past some problems with sata drive by setting to "rolling" the sources in armbian-config. A few day ago I wanted to upgrade to trixie (debian 13) sources. I forgot to set up again the armbian-config sources to "stable" and I went in a bad situation with my raid1 : it completely disappeared from /etc/mdadm/mdadm.conf, and was unable to mount. After several struggling with the command line tools, I managed to get it recreated by the following command : mdadm --create --force /dev/md0 \ --level=1 \ --raid-devices=2 \ /dev/sdc1 /dev/sdd1 \ --metadata=1.2 --data-offset=$(( 264192/2 ))K Now it seems to be syncing, but I think the fi…

Hello, everyone. I'm using Armbian_25.5.2_Orangepizero3_bookworm_current_6.12.30-homeassistant_minimal on 4GB OpiZero3. When booting from sd, the bluetooth controller is initialized correctly. I made a boot from usb-ssd via armbian-config: everything works fine, but the bluetooth controller is not initialized. /sys/class/bluetooth is empty. Switch back to sd - it works again. Boot from ssd - no. I compared whether it transferred the distribution correctly from sd to ssd - all files are the same. What could be the problem?

I'm using Bluetouch in my iPhone as a bluetooth mouse (rarely when needed) for my OrangePi/Armbian/Kodi setup. All fine with that… except… with my iPhone paired to the OrangePi, it also connects all its audio to the OrangePi, *all the time* when in range, unless I completely disable bluetooth from the iPhone. According to the only instructions I've found, I've tried setting [General] Enable= in `/etc/bluetooth/main.conf`, and restarting the bluetooth service, but the only effect this has is that there's no audible output. The phone still connects its audio to the box, just with no audible output. How to completely disable Armbian from advert…

I got an Orange Pi Zero 3 (1.5GB) to run Adguard Home. I tried the latest Armbian image (25.5.1), first with DE, then without... same problem. I run the config wizard and install AdGuard Home through it, set it up via the browser (192.168.0.6:3000), then reboot to make sure the service loads properly on boot... which it doesn't. Well, the service SEEMS to be running, according to the monitor, but I can no longer access AdGuard via the browser (and yes, I reserved 192.168.0.6 for the Orange Pi in the router).

Hello everyone! I’m new to the forum and recently set up Armbian on my Orange Pi using the latest July 2025 image. I’m working on a user-space application to monitor fuel consumption for IoT projects involving vehicle fleets, like optimizing diesel trucks. I’m thinking of something that could run via armbian-config or as a Python script, pulling data from fuel sensors. So far, my idea is to log consumption data and calculate efficiency based on user input. I’ve tried Grafana, but it lacks a dedicated fuel calculator—kalkulatorpaliwa.com.pl could serve as a starting point for a simple interface. I’m unsure how to approach this on Armbian—should I use Python with Mat…

Hello Armbian community I am a bit confused - I only see images labeled for Raspberry Pi 4 in the Raspberry Pi section of the Armbian website. However, I have seen several videos (like the demo by NicoD) showing Armbian Jammy with KDE Neon running smoothly on Raspberry Pi 5. Are the images for Pi 5B hidden or moved? I am looking for a direct link to download the Pi 5B images (Jammy or Bookworm, desktop or minimal version), instead of having to guess if a "Pi 4" image actually supports the Pi 5. Thank you for your help!

Hello everyone, I'm currently working on a custom firmware project for the Allwinner V851S/V851SS SoC (e.g., dash cam or smart camera). I've reached the stage where I need to modify and re-sign the firmware images (TOC0/TOC1) for use with tools like PhoenixCard. Lastest current kernel Bullseye image for Renegade, first-boot, then reboot, ssh.service won't active. Problem is 'Missing privilege separation directory: /run/sshd', creat by manul then start the service will make it active. But after a reboot it will need to done again. Purge and install openssh-server will fix it. Reinstall won't work. Remember do this before install other package which depend on openssh-server. https://paste.armbian.com/qoxebajifu

Hi. Im sorry, if the question below has been already discussed and published somewhere, but i didnt find proper information. So, what i have: orangepi5max, https://github.com/armbian/build.git this armbian, https://github.com/rockchip-linux/kernel.git and this kernel, which is placed in armbian-build/kernel. I've tried to use "userpatches/linux-$LINUXFAMILY-$BRANCH.config" config from armbian manual, to specify path to kernel, but despite the fact that manual states, that my custom config should replace the default one, ./compile.sh ignores it. So what am i doing wrong and is it even possible nowadays to assebmle the image using local kernel or it is already restricted?

I have now been able to build server images for Raspberry Pi 5B and Radxa 5C, both having gpu hardware driver support. However, this only works with Ubuntu Noble as a distro base. On Armbian 25.2.1, I can't find package tags. In contrast, on a pure Debian host (non-armbian), the command "apt-cache show gcc" says in part: Tag: devel::compiler, devel::lang:c, devel::library, implemented-in::c, interface::commandline, role::devel-lib, role::metapackage, role::program, suite::gnu, works-with::software:source I'd also like to see tags on Armbian so I can search for packages based on their tags. Thanks.

I normally like building server images because they are small and fast to compile. An then I can add the wanted desktop by "sudo apt install gnome" or other desktop later. But, sometimes I wonder if the desktop images have more features, like hardware drivers, than a server image with an added desktop afterwards. Can this be the case? Or does server images contain the same drivers and hardware support as a image built with a destop included?

I have noticed that when building images using the same kernel but selecting Ubuntu or Debian base (Bookworm vs Jammy), some hardware doesn't work on one of the images. Since the kernel is identical, why is not the hardware support the same? Is there a different build script for the two bases? Different userspace drivers? Just wondering..

Hello, I'm using Armbian (22.08.0) for risc-v on a Mango-pi. I read in the documentation it is possible to install git with the command of this post-title, but instead, it opens the config menu (see screenshot). I've looked at the option to install git inside this menu (inside the software menu I saw other options except git), but have not found it. How can I do this? Any pointers are appreciated. Thanks.

I have an IoT project that uses an SPI LCD (480x320), showing 1 full screen application on top of X11, which starts automatically, almost in kiosk mode. Is it worth a lot trying to switch to Wayland? I have 2 roadblocks, which I am trying to drill through: * tkinter app re-write in pyqt * starting from a minimal armbian image, and install the bare minimum to have wayland and start the app Solid advantage: * Future proofing the product I have these preconceived advantages: * less resources needed: my application is fine with an OrangePi Zero 3 with 1 GB RAM, I don't want to upgrade RAM * faster startup (now I nee…

I've been using Armbian for developing an image for running on some custom hardware based on an Allwinner S3 (SoC with a single arm v7 core and 128mb ram) and it has been really helpful. My system now runs the software it was built for, and i love having complete Debian for development, maintenance and debugging. However I would like to have the option of making the system more like an embedded system most of the time : for most of its life it's running a custom application that gets video from a camera, h264 encodes it and sends it and some other data out over a data link. When it's in this mode it would be great if it was more like a buildroot type syst…

Hello, not sure if this should go under beginners, or this section but trying here. I have now set my armbian-config to rolling updates so I get the good beta stuff. I installed minidlna on a Linux Orange Pi PC 6.12.23-current-sunxi and also on an Orange Pi Zero, but it doesn't work; it doesn't appear in the client, on an LG Smart TV. On a Raspberry Pi, it does work; the configuration files are the same, and there are no network rules blocking any traffic... Any ideas what it could be?

1) What is the correct way to make kernel configuration changes? I have attempted to: ./compile.sh BOARD=bananapim4zero BRANCH=edge kernel-config saved config,. and then ./compile.sh BOARD=bananapim4zero BRANCH=edge kernel However, after installing the kernel I found the config changes were not applied. I then reran: ./compile.sh BOARD=bananapim4zero BRANCH=edge kernel-config and I see that the config changes I made have been reverted. 2) How to clean the kernel and force a rebuild? Hi I can access my nextcloud in the firefox browser, but the client always states "signed out". From time to time there is a request in the browser to confirm access of the client to the nextcloud server. Howeveer, this doesn't seem to work. I guess, I should add an online account (in Preferences). But there is no button to "Add account" shown. Do you have a hint to a missing package ? I am out of ideas how to solve it. I read about Debian/Ubuntu, that — as the Armbian — in general have all sorts of UTF-8 locales installed by default, it is possible to generate ISO8859-2 locales anyway by using a 'locale-gen' tool (found such suggestion here ). But there isn't locale-gen in Armbian, it seems (Armbian v25.2.2). Can it be installed from some repo, or maybe it's possible to generate ISO8859-2 locales some alternative way? If so — how do i do that?

I have a Banana Pi M64 running Armbian 24.11.1 jammy, which has both a hard wired Ethernet connection and also WiFi. I have several other computers with both Ethernet and WiFi connections. I have my local DHCP servers set up to offer the same local IP address to both the Ethernet and Wireless NICs. For most (all but the Banana Pi M64 running Armbian 24.11.1 jammy) this is fine: both NICs get the same IP address and things work fine (generally traffic goes on one NIC). I do this in case I need to unplug the Ethernet cable (which would cause things to "fail over" to wireless). The Banana Pi M64 used to also be fine with the same IP address on both its Ethernet and its W…

Hi - just wondering if there's something anyone can do to seed more of Armbian community maintained images - especially Rockpro64 and Rpi5 images. There seems to be only one seeder and just as I was typing this post, I got to download over a gigabyte of the Rockpro64 image but it's still not finished. It seems the seeder (?) was online for a moment but then seeding stopped. So if there's something someone can do, much appreciated!

Hi Members, I'm setting and reading the GPIO PINs for different BPI's frequently only by bash by maintaining the /sys/class/gpio/xxx values. The only problem is that all these files belong to root :root and I have to use the sudo command in my scripts. I've read about putting a non root user to the gpio group will fix that. But on Armbian there is no "gpio" group ;( That seems the reason why the directory /sys/class/gpio is not prepared as root:gpio Please has someone an idea when this will be implemented? Regards wollik

Hi, I'm using Armbian 24.11.1 bookworm with a V6.6.62 64 bit Kernel on a NanoPi Neo2. To debug, I have a UART/Serial-to-USB connector attached. Other end is on a Windows 11 box where I use Putty. Hello, Yesterday I was doing an upgrade on my NanoPi T6, and then I got a kernel panic and no boot. I am currently running kernel 6.1.84 To recover my information through a new mmc card I put armbian with kernel 6.12. And I logged in by doing a chroot. There used to be an option to install a newer kernel via armbian-config, but I can't find that option now. Hello, I have an odroid hc4 which I am mainly using as a home NAS. I chose Armbian + OMV (headless) and it works really well. Now I tried using it as a media center at the same time with kodi. I tried both the "old" kodi version from the debian repos and also the flatpak version. For both it seems like the hardware acceleration isn't working. I can run youtube 1080p with vp9 quite fine, but neither 1080p with h264, nor anything 4k, at this resolutions it's stuttering a lot. Also the CPU-usage is always very high. When i start flatpak-kodi it returns: 'this->recurse > 0' failed at ../src/pipewire/thread-loop.c:62 do_unlock() libva info: VA-…

Hello everyone, I’m currently trying to develop an Electron-based application to run on the Orange Pi PC Plus (ARM platform), but I’ve hit a few roadblocks in the build process. My goal is to package and distribute the app so it can be run directly on this specific device, but I’m struggling with issues related to cross-compiling and creating binaries compatible with its architecture. Has anyone here successfully built and deployed an Electron app on an Orange Pi or a similar ARM board? I would really appreciate any guidance, tips, or recommended tools for accomplishing this.

Thanks, Armbian for supporting users like us with community backed OS for SBCs which otherwise are struggling to maintain the OS software in synergy with their hardware product portfolio. The whole SBC paradigm revolves around accessing GPIO either as Inputs, Outputs, UARTs, SPI or I2C. If the main focus/priority is to get the UI up and running, there would be no difference between mainstream rooted phones/tablets and SBC. As a general observation, I have almost always struggled to run gpio based python scripts out of the box after loading minimal OS for multiple SBCs. As a humble request on behalf of whole community is to propose readiness for GPI…
