Armbian is installed from Armbian_23.11.3_Rpi5b_bookworm_current_6.1.68_cinnamon_desktop.img. I installed xrdp and then created the remote user and added it to xrdp group. When checked the xrdp status seems fine. When I try to connect I just get an empty blue screen on a Windows RDP screen Rechecking the xrdp status gives: After delay of minute or so a 'connection log' window appears RDP client screen, saying Rechecking the xrdp status gives: I have a Rasperry PiOS Bullseye on a RPI4, with working xrdp. One of my Armbian machines (24.5.5 bookworm) is running PostgreSQL. I don't think I've changed any of its default settings relating to PostgreSQL's log files or their permissions, but I'm occasionally getting emails from the armbian-truncate-logs cron job saying: The directory /var/log/postgresql is owned by root (and group postgres) and has permissions drwxrwxr-t, and the file /var/log/postgresql/postgresql-15-main.log is owned by postgres (and group adm) and has permissions -rw-r-----. In /var/log.hdd/postgresql the ownership and permissions are the same, and there are also files postgresql-15-main.log.1, postgresql-15-main.log.2.gz, postgresql-15-m…

Sorry for a n00b questions but I'm confused with Armbian version names 😀 1) I'm using an ARMhf board with a Jammy 6.6. I see ports.ubuntu.com in Apt log. But on which kernel is it based? On the Ubuntu website, I don't see a 6.6 kernel at all. Or is it a kernel from https://www.kernel.org? In armbian-config I see 6.1, 6.6, and 6.7 versions available for download, but all of them are also not listed on Ubuntu's website. Which is the most stable and recommended Armbian version to use? 2) Which version is the next after Jammy? Noble? On the Ubuntu website, I see v24.04, on the Armbian website I see v24.5. Why Armbian version is newer than …

Looks like the package in subject is not in the repos. However, there are other packages depending on it (explicitly indicating that the required version is >=25.8.2) so this prevents package updates. Interestingly, for the armhf target the package is available, so I suspect a build issue. Any clue?
-
There seems to be some issue in the build process for armhf, since the base-files are missing again for 24.8.1. I am running an upgraded image of Ubuntu Noble on an Odroid HC1 (XU4 image): Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree... Done Reading state information... Done Calculating upgrade... This may mean that you have requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable distribution that some required packages have not yet been created or been moved out of Incoming. Hello guys, I never used armbian or any other kind of mini ARM Linux distro. I'm thinking about buying one of these ARM boards for a wireless access point and light server. What kind of packages can be installed on armbian? Can apache, BIND, ansible, python3, DHCP server, for example, be installed on it? Are there any packages repositories? Possible to use a more powerful wifi antenna on them or is a USB antenna needed? Many thanks for any pointers on this.

1) What is the correct way to make kernel configuration changes? I have attempted to: ./compile.sh BOARD=bananapim4zero BRANCH=edge kernel-config saved config,. and then ./compile.sh BOARD=bananapim4zero BRANCH=edge kernel However, after installing the kernel I found the config changes were not applied. I then reran: ./compile.sh BOARD=bananapim4zero BRANCH=edge kernel-config and I see that the config changes I made have been reverted. 2) How to clean the kernel and force a rebuild? I tried ./compile.sh BOARD=bananapim4zero BRANCH=edge CLEAN_LEVEL="make-kernel" kernel But the kernel was not cleaned, nor rebuilt. …

Thanks, Armbian for supporting users like us with community backed OS for SBCs which otherwise are struggling to maintain the OS software in synergy with their hardware product portfolio. The whole SBC paradigm revolves around accessing GPIO either as Inputs, Outputs, UARTs, SPI or I2C. If the main focus/priority is to get the UI up and running, there would be no difference between mainstream rooted phones/tablets and SBC. As a general observation, I have almost always struggled to run gpio based python scripts out of the box after loading minimal OS for multiple SBCs. As a humble request on behalf of whole community is to propose readiness for GPI…

I fixed in the past some problems with sata drive by setting to "rolling" the sources in armbian-config. A few day ago I wanted to upgrade to trixie (debian 13) sources. I forgot to set up again the armbian-config sources to "stable" and I went in a bad situation with my raid1 : it completely disappeared from /etc/mdadm/mdadm.conf, and was unable to mount. After several struggling with the command line tools, I managed to get it recreated by the following command : mdadm --create --force /dev/md0 \ --level=1 \ --raid-devices=2 \ /dev/sdc1 /dev/sdd1 \ --metadata=1.2 --data-offset=$(( 264192/2 ))K Now it seems to be syncing, but I think the fi…

Hi Members, I'm setting and reading the GPIO PINs for different BPI's frequently only by bash by maintaining the /sys/class/gpio/xxx values. The only problem is that all these files belong to root :root and I have to use the sudo command in my scripts. I've read about putting a non root user to the gpio group will fix that. But on Armbian there is no "gpio" group ;( That seems the reason why the directory /sys/class/gpio is not prepared as root:gpio Please has someone an idea when this will be implemented? Regards wollik

Hey everyone, I want to share something pretty simple that I was working on: a way to customize the official image, maybe it's not the best way of doing it, but it worked for my needs. https://github.com/thiagosanches/yet-another-armbian-bakery/ The main goal is: WIFI up at the first boot. Make some small adjustments on SSH configuration. Change root password. Add a pi user. Add a public key so I can connect orange pi through and manage it through ansible (important topic). Any thoughts? It ain't much but it's a honest work!

I don't quite know where to post this. I hope I am in the right place. When migrating a system from an armbian_23.02.2_Orangepi4-lts_jammy_current_5.15.93_xfce_desktop image to a SSD, armbian-install creates a broken line in /etc/fstab. The third line is missing the introductory "UUID=". The line then looks like this: xxxxxxxx-yyy-yyy-yyy-xxxxxx /media/mmcboot ext4 defaults,noatime,commit=600 ....etc. As a result, /media/mmcboot is not mounted, of course, and the boot process aborts with a cli root-login. Completing the line allows the system to boot normally. UUID=xxxxxxxx-yyy-yyy-yyy-xxxxxx /media/mmcboot ext4 defaults,noatime,commit=600 ....etc. …

I know the edge kernel and trixie build is not supported, but it builds just fine, but during the first boot it fails when setting the root password. Any fix?

Why doesn’t it start automatically after I log out or reboot after installation? What is causing this issue? The official Orange Pi kernel version (Orangepizero3_1.0.4_debian_bookworm_desktop_xfce_linux6.1.31) does not have this problem and runs automatically. Instead, I get the error: “dbus can't connect to fcitx5.” Every time I need to open the fcitx5 settings again and click “Run” before I can input Chinese. I have no idea what is going on. Thanks.

I have to be upfront: I'm not a developer. I'm an ops/observability engineer who knows how to use software to get things done. I know a bit of Go — not much — and I have no formal background in software design. What I do know is what I need, and what was missing. So I built it. Take the code with that in mind. The problem I run a Kobol Helios64 as my home NAS — a five-bay ARM board that's been sitting in a sweet spot between "serious hardware" and "abandoned by its software ecosystem." I tried the usual NAS UIs. They were either too heavy, too opinionated about owning the underlying OS, or simply unmaintained. None of them gave me a clean window in…

For many Years I was using a wlan SSID containing a backslash with no problems. While trying the current Armbian_community_26.11.0-trunk.62_Bananapim2plus_trixie_current_6.18.54_minimal.img.xz the network wlan0 would not connect. Connecting to the guest wlan of the same router worked. I could trace it to the backslash in the SSID which "netplan try" complained about. Escaping that with a additional backslash made "netplan try" accept it, but the connection did not work, the interface wlan0 remained in status "state DOWN". Changing the SSID (removing that single backslash) made it working. I did not find something that prohibits the backslash use…

Hi everyone, I'm working on a bunch of arm boards, where I installed armbian on the eMMC I'm trying to re-flash some of them, via SD and then via nand-sata-install, but something is wrong A fresh SD works, as in: boot from SD run nand-sata-install select eMMC run and wait But as soon as I try to do it a second time, on a second board, it breaks, meaning that nand-sata-install doesn't show any storage device, while /dev/mmc* it's recognized from linux (image 1) INFO: Armbian monitor log $ uname -a Linux rockpi-s 6.0.10-rockchip64 #22.11.1 SMP PREEMPT Wed Nov 30 11:20:25 UTC 2022 aarch64 GNU/Linux

Hi there, I am trying to blacklist a module by adding 'blacklist rtl2832_sdr' to /etc/modprobe.d/rtl2832_sdr.conf I follow this by issuing 'update-initramfs -u' and rebooting. This is a standard way of doing things on Linux, yet somehow all of the modules continue to show up. System is up to date, running on Orange Pi Zero 3, if that matters. I expect this is a bug of some sort, since I saw it mentioned elsewhere here in the forums that this is the way to go, too?

Sharing this here since it's a general-purpose tool rather than anything board-specific: GOESB is an open, reproducible benchmark for on-device speech-to-text — hash-verified results, official profiles + open packs so numbers are directly comparable across hardware, no account needed to submit. The problem it's trying to solve: if you're picking hardware for a local voice/STT workload, vendor numbers don't tell you much and blog posts go stale fast. GOESB is meant to be the place you can actually check "does this board run faster-whisper medium in real time, or do I need to drop to tiny and eat the accuracy hit." Right now the leaderboard is entirely x86…

Cross-posting this because it took a while to untangle, and most guides out there are either vendor-BSP/rkmpp (the wrong stack for mainline) or they stop at "it says hardware accelerated" without checking whether it actually is. Tested on an Orange Pi 5B, mainline Debian 13 (trixie), kernel 7.1.3+deb13-arm64, panthor + PanVK, Wayfire. Should apply to any RK3588/RK3588S board on a mainline stateless-decode kernel (Rock 5B, OPi 5, etc.). Corrections welcome; I'd rather this be right than mine. First, the thing that trips everyone up: on mainline, rkmpp is not your path. Rockchip's MPP library (the thing that hardware-decodes at ~9% CPU on the vendor…

Just wondering if having profile-sync-daemon (psd) is causing troubles to you. After installing Armbian, I noticed that whenever I was restarting Chromium and accessing youtube, the system was asking me a login. The authentication cookies were simply disappearing after each restart of chromium. To avoid that I removed a link of my .profile directory pointing to a tmpfs filesystem (you see the tmpfs file system, use the df command). I read that it is used to avoid read/write on storage, as all I/O are done in Ram, but obviously in my case it was not really working, as I was loosing my cookies. Does anyone else uses that feature?…

Installation of autheila package ("apt install authelia") does does end with error due to /var/log/journal beeing a symlink to /var/log.hdd/journal. Once the symlink is removed and the directory is created instead, the installation can be completed successfully. The symlink can be recreated afterwards and authelia wil steill run normally - until the next package update.

I read about Debian/Ubuntu, that — as the Armbian — in general have all sorts of UTF-8 locales installed by default, it is possible to generate ISO8859-2 locales anyway by using a 'locale-gen' tool (found such suggestion here ). But there isn't locale-gen in Armbian, it seems (Armbian v25.2.2). Can it be installed from some repo, or maybe it's possible to generate ISO8859-2 locales some alternative way? If so — how do i do that?

Hello, I am facing situation where new armbian images e.g. Armbian_community_26.2.0-trunk.100_Orangepizero2w_trixie_current_6.12.63_minimal is coming without nmui. nmtui support one wifi configuration with dhcp while assigning static ip to other wifi. systemd-networkd does not support separate behaviour for two different wifi configruation. Every time I tried to log on to ssh on my rock-s0 with armbian, there would be a delay of like 5 seconds. I found a solution that fixes this problem. This thread is partly a PSA about this solution, and a question about whether this solution is a good idea or not. The trick is to change UsePAM=yes , to UsePAM=no , in the /etc/ssh/sshd_config file. But I heard some people online say this is a bad idea, but I don't understand PAM enough to know why. I am only going to use ssh in a basic password-authenticated, LAN environment. Do I really need PAM? The only side-effect I noticed is that it no longer shows the MOTD when logging in.

Hi! On the Orange Pi 5 plus with the 6.1 image (KDE), with a 4k monitor @ 60FPS and 200% scaling, when opening discord on Chrome it gets incredibly laggy. I'm just curious, is this a limitation with the GPU itself, or is this related to something in the software stack? Thanks!

Hello to all, In order to be able to export GPIO 414 to turn off USB-Power I wanted to unbind the USB drivers: andreas@odroidc4:~$ lsusb -t /: Bus 02.Port 1: Dev 1, Class=root_hub, Driver=xhci-hcd/1p, 5000M |__ Port 1: Dev 2, If 0, Class=Hub, Driver=hub/4p, 5000M /: Bus 01.Port 1: Dev 1, Class=root_hub, Driver=xhci-hcd/2p, 480M |__ Port 1: Dev 3, If 0, Class=Hub, Driver=hub/4p, 480M Both drivers, "xhci-hcd" and "hub" are built into the kernel. The "hub" driver exposes "bind" and "unbind" in /sys/bus/usb/drivers/hub, so no problem. But the driver "xhci-hcd" has no /sys/bus/usb/drivers/xhci-hcd directory. So I cannot unbind it. …

Hi, i have some difficulties to add some boot parameters to the kernel. From what i read, the most safe procedure is to use the armbian-config tool, that will add the parameters to /boot/armbianEnv.txt file. As i have understood, the armbianEnv will be readed by the boot.cmd/boot.scr at launch, without need to recompile anything. I have added the needed parameters using armbian-config, but does not work. To be precise, the commands that i have to add are: Spoiler video=composite-1:d video=Composite-1:d I need to disable the drm composite output because my monitor is.....well, not good and the composite output cause…

I'm having trouble understanding armbian-install, is this a good place to discuss? Basically, I'd like to understand the menu options better. Probably because it's a generic tool for all devices, the selections aren't clear (to me at least), depending on what device I'm working with. For the most part, all I ever need to do is to copy the working SD image to the eMMC or NVME. Any armbian-install gurus lurking?

Hello, Yesterday I was doing an upgrade on my NanoPi T6, and then I got a kernel panic and no boot. I am currently running kernel 6.1.84 To recover my information through a new mmc card I put armbian with kernel 6.12. And I logged in by doing a chroot. There used to be an option to install a newer kernel via armbian-config, but I can't find that option now. Is there any way how i can put on my current server a newer kernel or through cli which packages should i install. Greetings, A.H.

I have an OrangePi PC with armbian installed on it. Today, probably because of my stupidity, the board couldn't boot after upgrading a bunch of stuff. When I opened the sd card on my pc, I found that there were no kernel files in /boot and there were broken symlinks. I tried to replace these with the files from the current minimal image armbian is available for the board, but encountered a UUID mismatch. I then used files from a september 2021 backup, which did allow me to boot into a functional system. It had Linux 5.10.43-sunxi. But before my attempts to fix the issue, my system had Linux 6.1.11-sunxi installed, so I am concerned about this mismatch and would like to sa…

Hello, I have a Medion Chromebook S2015 with a CPU (armv7 processor rev 1 (v7l)) and RAM (2062808 kB). So it's 32-bit. I want to install Linux on it. To do this, I need an armhf architecture. However, under armhf on ARMBIAN, I find (Inovato Quadra, Khadas Edge 2, Khadas VIM4, Mekotronics R58 4X4, Mekotronics R58 HD, Muse Pi Pro, NanoPC T6 LTS, NanoPi M5, Nanopi M6, Nanopi R3S / LTS, NanoPi R76S, Radxa Rock 5B Plus, Radxa Rock 5C and Radxa Rock 5T). What should I select? Are there still 32-bit versions available?

I got an Orange Pi Zero 3 (1.5GB) to run Adguard Home. I tried the latest Armbian image (25.5.1), first with DE, then without... same problem. I run the config wizard and install AdGuard Home through it, set it up via the browser (192.168.0.6:3000), then reboot to make sure the service loads properly on boot... which it doesn't. Well, the service SEEMS to be running, according to the monitor, but I can no longer access AdGuard via the browser (and yes, I reserved 192.168.0.6 for the Orange Pi in the router).

Hello, I am attempting to set my armbian machine up to match my Arch install on my Intel box. I like to use en-us. Utf8 with the 'US intl with dead keys' variant. But I cannot find it. Just did a fresh install of latest Ubuntu 26.04 Gnome build on a Pine Quartz64 A board. After an `apt update` running `apt upgrade` tries to update the `linux-libc-dev` package, which is downloaded from `ports.ubuntu.com`. However it consistently fails with a 404. Digging around a little, it seems like this package should match the kernel that's in use, so is the underlying problem that `apt` is trying to download it from the ubuntu repo instead of the armbian one where the kernel package comes from? I have not modified any apt configuration since installing.

It seems to me that the mesa packages that Armbian provides are broken, but I see no mention of this anywhere so maybe it's something I'm doing? I'm using an Orange Pi Zero 3, which I believe is experimental but I don't see any evidence that the packages of interest are specific to this board.
