  4. G’day guys, just grabbed a version of Armbian again to play around with on an orange Pi 5 I have had for a while. I have installed the latest stable (25.5.1 Noble Gnome). Everything went smoothly, and I have a 512GB ssd on the board, so I went through the install process using armbian-install. I managed to get the OS installed on the SSD, but when I went to install the bootloader, I got some error messages saying that the SPI image was not chosen. I followed the process for erasing the MTD, but still I got error messages relating to no spi image. I tried to boot from the ssd and just got a black screen. I downloaded Joshua Riek’s Ubuntu 24.04 dist…

  7. I don't know why, I think after doing "sudo apt update/upgrade" (but I'm not sure), the wiringOP library on "orange pi 5" with Armbian 23.02.2 doesn't work anymore. If I run the command "sudo gpio readall" I get the following output: Oops: Unable to determine board revision from /proc/device-tree/system/linux,revision or from /proc/cpuinfo -> No "Hardware" line -> You'd best google the error to find out why. Can anyone help me solve this problem?

  8. Hello, I cloned the master branch of WiringOP one month ago, it reported same version 2.46 and it was working except for the option to activate internal pull up/down. Trying it in C code using: pullUpDnControl(n, PUD_DOWN); or by terminal with: gpio mode 1 down same behavior, nothing happen.. by default, unfortunately in my case, it seem active a pull up resistor for all inputs. I searched on the web and found there was a bug, fixed. I checked again the main branch and in effect it is different now, the new code is: *(gpio + GPPUD) = pud & 3 ; delayMicroseconds (5) ; *(gpio + gpioToPUDCLK [pin]) = 1 <&…

  10. Hello all, I have noticed that whenever I reboot my Orange Pi 5 board, all the 8 cpus slow down to 408 Mhz with no range, as stated by cpufreq-info: I have created a cronjob script in order to bring the frequency back to acceptable range. I don't even know if this is the correct way to solve this, but I am running the following: echo performance | sudo tee /sys/devices/platform/dmc/devfreq/dmc/governor cpufreq-set -c 0 -u 1800000 cpufreq-set -c 4 -u 2260000 cpufreq-set -c 6 -u 2300000 cpufreq-set -c 0 -g schedutil cpufreq-set -c 4 -g schedutil cpufreq-set -c 6 -g schedutil However, even though I set the frequency for processo…

  11. I am attempting to install the file Armbian_23.02.0-trunk.0112_Orangepi5_jammy_legacy_5.10.110_cinnamon_desktop.img from https://www.armbian.com/orangepi-5/ but the installation hangs at the point where the root password should be entered. The same happens with the file Armbian_23.02.0-trunk.0112_Orangepi5_jammy_legacy_5.10.110_minimal.img. If i use the file Armbian_22.11.3_Orangepi5_jammy_legacy_5.10.110_cinnamon_desktop.img from the Github archive the installation completes. I have tried to raise a bug but the only solution for not booting are hardware and the installation has not progressed far enough to enter any commands. Any assistance welcomed.

  14. Hello!! I just got my Orange Pi 5 the other day and am trying to 'port' a program I've been working on for RPi4b over to this new board. The program is using ffmpeg to decode h264 and hevc video streams. My main question is how do I need to configure the ffmpeg codex context and formats to make use of (ideally zero copy) HW accelerated video decode on Orange Pi 5? For the raspberry code I was using these: avcodec_find_decoder_by_name("hevc"); and avcodec_find_decoder_by_name("h264_v4l2m2m"); together with codec_context->pix_fmt = AV_PIX_FMT_DRM_PRIME; // for zero copy video path But this does not work when compil…

Hello people, Happily running Bookworm, because it was the mainstream download for OPI5 a few months ago, I now see that the main download for OPI is back to Jammy. Apart from hardware accceleration, Bookworm runs great for me. In fact HA is not crucial for my server usage, though it would be nice. Question: what is the reason the main OPI5 download is now back to Jammy in stead of Bookworm? And what would be the advantages of going back from Bookworm to Jammy? (Got the aluminium passively cooling case for the OPI5, so far it's been great, 10 minutes of stresstesting all 8 cores doesn't get above 70 degrees celsius. For reference my…

  17. So recently I flashed Orange Pi OS to SD card, booted from there, updated system, firmware and flashed bootloader to SPI flash. I already had an external HDD with Armbian flashed, and tried to boot from there, but no luck. Afterwards, I tried to boot Armbian from SD card, but I can't boot any system that is not Orange Pi OS (and especifically, it needs to be from SD card, can't also boot from USB even in OPi OS). Tried with different SD cards and USB devices, no luck I believe I need to erase SPI flash in order to boot from SD again, but, how can I do it? Used latest OrangePi OS and Armbian Jammy CLI from 23/01 (stable release)

  21. Hi friends, I have one nagging thorn in my side that I just cannot figure out. I need someone who has a 1password account for help with this one. The problem - their desktop app and browser plugin work in tandem -- and it will not synchronize on Armbian for some reason. I've tried everything I can think of - ensuring nothing is downloaded from Flatpak and therefore sandboxed and preventing any connectivity issues. But still not working. If someone can take 5 mins and create a free trial account on 1password, then here are the steps to reproduce: Download the latest arm64 version of 1password Desktop: curl -sSO https://downloads.…

I haven't tried Jammy with 6.1.43 but the kernel doesn't say rc anymore so curious of the status. How does this build compare in terms of feature and performance with 5.10? Is all the video decoding supported? The RK3588 Kernel support page says that hdmi audio is not supported - is that really the case? Is gnome/wayland supported? I see that only KDE is listed there.

  23. hai, im planning to upgrade my local media server to use an external hard drive attached using hard drive docking on USB 3.0 what I'm confused about is. what is the best FileSystem format for my hard drive? I'm not planning to unmount and use the hard drive to another PC (for example: windows PC) So I'm ready to format it with FileSystem that fully optimizes on Linux (I'm using armbian noble) so ext4 or xfs? I hear xfs is better for copying large file sizes. my casual use is downloading movies, and watching it on jellyfin. or maybe I'm just using ext4?

Not sure if the rolling release includes the UART dtb yet, but when I build my own image (jammy xfce kernel 5.10.110) I don't have the UART dtbs in /boot/dtb/rockchip/overlay/ . As a result, I couldn't add uart0-m2 to /boot/armbianEnv.txt and get /dev/ttyS0 when I was following the official user manual to enable UART. After some researching I managed to solve this by copying the dtb file from orange pi's official ubuntu image to /boot/overlay-user and enable UART with user_overlays=rk3588-uart0-m2 in armbianEnv.txt . Rebooted and it works. However, I suppose it would be better to include the dts files in kernel patches? I'm posting this because I don't know what…

I have no sound over hdmi with my Orange pi 5. I have tried installing alsamixer and alsatools but this reports no settings to adjust. I have looked in files-boot-config for the sound settings and line 5242 says HDMI analogue is not set. I tried altering that to =y but I am not allowed to alter anything here and save it, ( oh how linux loves denying you permission). Does anyone know how to apply some common sense to this, why do the Armbian developers think it is a good idea not to have sound over HDMI, there is no option at al to select this in sound settings. Yours extremely miffed.

I'm using ffmpeg and Kodi from the @amazingfate ppa. All has been running great although I don't think that I'm using hardware acceleration. I'm still on an older Jammy with the old/legacy kernel. I've tried newer kernels but getting issues so I stuck with the older kernel. I've started noticing lately that videos are being encoded with pixel format yuv420p10le. In Kodi, I was getting black screens while the audio was playing. I was following up on the Kodi forums, and was told that Kodi needed to be compiled for OpenGL instead of OpenGLES to make the video render properly. Now I'm wondering if it is possible to switch back to the stable version without reinstalling the system. The OPI is now running in production and I have several containers running on it. 53. I have an Armbian installation on the NVMe drive and I'm trying to switch back to boot from SD card. In `armbian-config` I messed up the boot settings by leaving the root fs type unchanged, (SD card is in fat32 but NVMe partition is ext4). Now the board boots into initramfs prompt. Here's what I've already tried based on search and ChatGPT: Mount the NVMe partition to `/mnt` then chroot to it, this did work but the `/boot` partition was not mounted inside of the chroot so I can't fix boot env. I also tried `switch_root` but it's not available in the initramfs prompt. Update `/proc/cmdline` to change the root fs back to the Armbian partition…

It only gives the option to blank, which still is running my monitor at 100% brightness and a horrible solution Where is the setting to turn my screen off after 5 minutes? Bluetooth appeared on my Armbian Ubuntu Jammy setup and I plugged in the dongle. It saw a few of my bluetooth devices. Reason I wanted bluetooth is to use a controller for some games/emulators.
