Hi, after getting access to GPIO pins now (thnx to Neil ) I wonder that accessing pins be bash scripts gives me quite different access times. For example, I use one pin to switch a connected device on and off by a MOSFET. Setting the pin low is fast, setting it high takes about two seconds. I use the following shell script: #!/bin/bash echo "0" > /sys/class/gpio/gpio102/value ("0" for off, "1" for on) Any ideas? The pin seems to switch immediately, while the shell prompt takes about two seconds to return - but ONLY in case of "1". The corresponding pin is set to output, of course, before Best regards, Michael …

Hi, I have a Radxa Zero 4+64 GB model SBC. I saw new Xiaomi 4k tv stick and it has Amlogic S905Y4 and it has similar performance to S905Y2. I wonder when radxa zero will get h/w acceleration to use all potential of SoC. If there is already got h/w acceleration support, I'm sorry for writing this questions. I tried radxa debian (official), manjaro and armbian images. All of them not able to play videos smoothly in firefox. Thanks for all replies.

Hi I've made a new kernel Auxiliary Display Driver for TM16XX and compatible LED controllers. This driver supports various LED controller chips, including TM16XX family, FD6XX family, PT6964, and HBS658. It provides support for both I2C and SPI interfaces. I wanted it to manage the hardware on the kernel space while having an easy sysfs user space interface. It also aims to reduce the code to maintain by relaying on existing kernel features instead of recoding them. Plus, you can switch to hardware i2c/spi (instead of software gpio) depending on the pins used. You can use "vfdconf-convert" to convert your existing vfd.conf to its device…

Hi Armbian people, this is my first time here and i feel like a child in a chemical laboratory... strange things, linux is a new world for me so i apologize for dumbs questions... Im trying to install RTC Shield in my odroid c2 with Openmediavault Erasmus. Someone can give me a hand? I've start with the tutorial provided by Hardkernell.. is for Ubuntu, so i have an error (see first picture) since the second step. After that, Odroid from HD suggest probe rtc with sudo modprobe aml_i2c sudo modprobe rtc_pcf8563.. .. it seems that the driver is not present or that is not the right thing to do (see second picture). After that i"ve try w…

I'm using an Odroid C2 and need some newer software packages than those found in the Ubuntu 16.04 repositories, so I installed the legacy (3.14.79) version of the Debian server edition of Armbian, then upgraded it to Debian 9. I've installed xorg, lightdm, etc and now have a very functional desktop. However, I want to install a 3D CAD program that **I think** would perform better if I had 3D accelerated graphics installed. I'm a complete noob when it comes to 3D graphics drivers. I assume they're not installed, as I see this on my Orange Pi PC 2 running the desktop version of Ubuntu: $ lsmod | grep mali mali_drm 2732 1 drm …

I am trying to enable the external antenna on my Radxa Zero SBC. I was assuming that there is a kernel overlay available to achieve this, but unfortunately not. At least I am unable to find it using armbian-config. I am running Armbian v24.11.1 with kernel 6.6.63-current-meson64. Has anyone ever achieved to enable the external antenna? Any hints appreciated.

How do you enable the UART GPIO serial port (i.e., the one on pins 8 & 10) on a Nano Pi K2? The only active serial port I see from `dmesg | grep serial` is ttyAML0, which I'm assuming is the serial port on the debugging pins. FWIW, I'm using the 4.14.69-meson64 kernel on a Nano Pi K2.

Hi, Armbian_21.02.3_Odroidc1_focal_current_5.10.21 how do I find out which number do I need to provide to gpio export command? The proposed solution here (https://github.com/armbian/build/pull/4824) basically performs a power-reset of the SDCARD in the final moments in order to prepare for the bootloader's (Uboot) restart. What puzzles me is that the kernel has a Watchdog feature which seems to operating fine as witnessed by the console log "watchdog: watchdog0: watchdog did not stop!" meaning that the watchdog driver has been told to disregard attempts to disable it (which is fine in the context that the watchdog is being used to reset the cpu). The problem is, the watchdog never times-out because, i presume, something is still "kicking the dog" (there seems to be a worker thread tas…

Hello, I have trouble activating i2c on odroid c4. There's a pcf8563 module connected to the board. Also, /dev/i2c-0 /dev/i2c-1 exist. But pcf8563 does not show up when I run i2cdetect. I can rule out hardware issue because both i2c and pcf8563 work well with Hardkernel's Ubuntu image. So far, I've tried the followings but they don't work: Adding overlay="i2cA i2cB" to /boot/armbianEnv.txt and reboot. Manually editing device tree by changing status under "i2c@1d000" to "okay" and reboot. Also, I remember that i2c used to work on older versions of Armbian, which come with older version of kernels. But since linux 5.19, i2c no longer w…

Hi, after doing some last changes (hopefully) to Uboot and the kernel, I have some questions on how to get the new Uboot and kernel on eMMC (I can't reinstall everything on a cleanly etched system). I have normal build environment, with mainline kernel and v2017.11. compile.sh gives me a new image without problems. The target system is running nicely on a 128GB eMMC, but how can I safely install the new Uboot and the new kernel to my eMMC? I would really be happy to have one of the experts telling me how to proceed without killing my system Thanks in advance, any help is appreciated. Michael

Hello, I just received my new Odroid HC4 and wanted to install Armbian on it. I needed a kernel upgrade to be able to run some applications. I value stability over cutting edge features so I decided to try the Debian image. However I detected a few things that are not working properly. 1. USB almost never works. Most of the time my very plain USB keyboard won't be detected. There is an error message right at the start of the boot sequence "Failed to get keyboard state from device[...]". I have to shutdown and start multiple times by plugging off the power cable and I also keep trying different USB ports. Some rare times the keyboard will work though, even with the above error message. Even rarely I don’t see the error message at the boo…

2 changes are in queue on my workstation, one is u-boot 2018.11, the other is updating the Dev patchset and beginning to iron out 4.19 Kernel. The first I honestly don't see any issues with moving forward, but want people to know about it, the second is a bit of a hairball and I'll need some help with debugging, and in fixing. Detail of changes: U-boot: Currently Meson64 and Odroid C2 are using 2018.05 and 2018.07, respectively. I will be moving all to 2018.11, and eliminating the "specialness" of the Odroid C2 in our build system, so Meson64 will be inheriting the C2 boot script under the "Meson64 name, it will no longer have its own u-boot pat…

I recently uploaded Armbian_20.11_Odroidc4_focal_current 5.9.12_desktop.img.xz onto a new Odroid-C4. Booting up and getting started hasn't been a problem, but I've been interested in driving some brushless motors using a PWM control signal and started looking through the device tree. The C4 is supposed to have a total of 6 PWM outputs, spread over 3 pwmchip devices, which (I believe) should be named pwmchip0, pwmchip4, and pwmchip8. However, upon navigating to /sys/class/pwm, I'm only seeing pwmchip0. This seems a little odd, because if PWM was entirely disabled in the device tree, I wouldn't have expected that any of the chips would have appeared. Not sure if this is a b…

Hi, My first time attempting to use a nightly image in an attempt to get away from the legacy kernel. I installed Armbian_5.33.171007_Odroidc2_Debian_stretch_next_4.13.5.img on my C2, and it booted up just fine. Unfortunately, my primary use case for this hardware is a music streamer (and server), requires the ability to use Class 2 USB Audio, with (relatively) high-end USB DACs. I was unable to get the USB DAC to be recognized at all (did not show up in the ALSA devices listed by aplay -L, nor was it listed by lsusb.) I immediately reverted to the official Debian image running 3.14.79-odroidc2, and all was well again. As you can see below, my Te…

I am trying to follow various tutorials on full disk LUKS root encryption for Odroid C2 with a emmc. Every tutorial I have found makes use of a separate partition for boot. Something like /dev/sdx1 (vfat) 100Mb. Mostly raspi tutorials but a few others that are step by step instructions out there as well. The armbian.img file does not have a separate boot partition when I use dd to transfer to emmc or sdcard. Do I just make a vfat partition on /dev/mmcblk0 (the emmc) and copy the /boot folder over to /dev/mmcblk0p1, and run dd again to put the arbian.img on /dev/mmcblk0p2? Anybody know of a what I need to do to make that partition so I can try some…

Hi, I compiled some images for C2 yesterday (mainline 5.77, jessie), and had a nice console as usual. Today, the new images still have u-boot console, and give some information about kernel starting, but no login by console (USB serial) is possible. I tried to set "console=serial" in /boot/armbianEnv.txt, but that gives me an endless reboot loop. Were there some changes? Maybe in baudrate? I get u-boot messages at 115200 8N1 as expected.. Armbian Armbian 22.11.4 Jammy on Odroid C4 boot from SD card system on an ext4 SSD. First of all - everything I need works correctly... However, I have a question about the SD card. After the timeout, the only way to fix the "error" was to log into the system via terminal. Long story - only after commenting out the SD card in the fstab on the SSD: UUID=61748c7e-b234-40e8-b6b6-592f845c3699 /media/mmcboot ext4 defaults,noatime,commit=600,errors=…

Hi all, I'm new to Linux and trying to set up a music server using my Odroid C2/Armbian/Cantata/MPD/HDMI sound. Got Armbian 5.60 (Stretch) 4.18.8 installed. Cantata sees the small test music library I set up on the C2 and appears to play tracks as the progress bar moves. I get no sound from the C2 connected HDMI monitor. (for initial testing only, i2s + DAC/Amp later). I tried the same set up using the Odroid Ubuntu/Mate desktop image a few days back and it worked straight out of the box. My suspicion is that the audio output settings in the mpd.conf are not correct (mpd 0.19.21). For HDMI sound output, does my version of Armbian use Pul…

With my OPi Zero, I noticed that at random times the ethernet connection somehow gets disabled. The only way to recover is by power cycling. I use the device as Pi-Hole (so when ethernet gets disconnected, I don't have internet anymore), print server and UniFi controller. I decided to swap it for my Odroid C2. Odd enough the C2 has the same issue. Maybe someone can help me with this? When powercycled, the Odroid with the latest Armbian (installed two days ago) is all up and running fine. Hi, with my Odroid C2 I experience a strange behaviour regarding Armbian Updates. Initially Armbian_5.38_Odroidc2_Debian_jessie_default_3.14.79 was installed, after installation I did an upgrade to Debian Stretch. Meanwhile a new Armbian version v5.44 / v5.45 with a newer Kernel is available for Odroid C2 devices. If I do "apt update" and "apt upgrade", a newer version isn't visible or would be installed? The system is stuck on v5.38 with Kernel 3.14.79: " Welcome to ARMBIAN 5.38 stable Debian GNU/Linux 9 (stretch) 3.14.79-odroidc2 Linux lx 3.14.79-odroidc2 #14 SMP PREEMPT Thu Jan 25 05:46:07 CET 2018 aarch64 System load: 0.39 0.28 0…

Now checked on Odroid C2 an image 5.76 with MALI and a media script, by a technique with replacement of u-boot, as for K2. Everything works fine. After installing the script, the standard browser began to play video 1080 full screen without brakes. MPV is just as easy to handle any full-screen video. Bonus has an in-house sound via HDMI. There is one caveat when configuring - it is necessary to specify the correct DTB option in the file for Odroid C2 "/extlinux/extlinux conf". 1. Copy of the standard u-boot from the working SD card. dd if=/dev/mmcblkXXX of=u-boot_odroid_c2.img bs=1M count=4 2. Burn the image Armbian for TV Boxing…

Thanks to g4751 for doing the tests for Odroid-HC4. The tests for the Odroid-C2 were performed by myself. Tests were performed on Armbian 24.08 Official releases. Fix is to add a section to the DTB to enable a recently (last year) added kernel driver "meson64-reboot" that is an updated version of the "odroid-reboot" in older kernels. For Odroid-C2: - save your existing DTB - use DTC to convert DTB->DTS - modify the DTS with the code below - use DTC to convert DTS->DTB - reboot (will fail because new DTB not loaded yet) - POR (will now load the new DTB) - log-in - reboot should now work. …

I'm currently running Armbian 5.60 on an Odroid C2. Tried the new mainline kernel version (5.71) on the weekend and everything looked fine at first, but when I got to starting one of my docker containers, it failed. This container uses armhf binaries. Is there some way of enabling armhf support with the new mainline kernel builds of Armbian, or do I need a custom build now? I installed docker via armbian-config. As far as I can remember, I did not have to do anything special to get this working on the 3.x kernel build... Any pointers in the right direction would be appreciated. Thanks and best regards, Ulr…

Hi guys, i have a question regarding the installation method of the two operating systems. On my OrangePI3 I booted the operating system from micro sd card and told armbian bionic that the eMMC memory will only be used as a boot loader while the rootfs of the actual operating system is installed on a connected USB stick. Is it the same with the Armbian Bionic for the Odroid C2 version? Or is it the case that the future operating system is written directly to the eMMC memory and booted from there? And then there was the reminder that Odroid C2 does not boot from USB. . . Can I use it as described for OrangePI3?

Hi. I want to use CAN interface on ODROID C2 board. I use external CAN-bus controller like MCP2515 via SPI interface. So, i need to enable SPI and CAN-bus peripherals and in kernel. So, could someone explain me how to do that? I know about device tree, but don`t know what to do. Just give me some guide links about device tree management, any examples, etc.

I run my ODROID C2 from eMMC, and after upgrading u-boot default to 5.38 booting no longer works. It looks like it cannot read the root partition and then reboots (and it will just keep rebooting). If I downgrade to u-boot 5.35 the system starts normally. This is the boot log from serial (first boot to start of the second): https://hastebin.com/raw/qajacahipe

Hello, we are testing set of 50devices and on 20%-30% of them we are detecting errors, which seems as hardware issues with eMMC cards. Issues looks very similar to us. Example of device usage is: 1) device boots operating system (Armbian GNU/Linux kernel 3.14.79-odroidc2), 2) device works as expected for hours/days, 3) system logs starts containing emmc errors, 4) system freezes with console message: Message from syslogd@avast-hkc213254dfea768 at Feb 14 13:49:58 ... kernel:[189164.931207] Disabling IRQ #250 After consultation with Hardkernel we tried theirs ubuntu image and it looks better. Hi, maybe someone can give me a hint... I have a running system now on 128GB eMMC card, and wanto to use GPIO. I have /sys/class/gpio/ with export, and unexport files, and two gpiochip0 and gpiochip14 entries. Unfortunately I can't export pins, as export 231 > /sys/class/gpio/export gives me a (as user and root) bash: echo: write error: Invalid argument Any help is appreciated. EDIT: works now. It is somehow a bit complicated, as the "usual" numbers as known from 3.x kernels vanished. Debug output shows two "gpiochips", with a certain number of pins, which you have to correlate to the device tree enums for that "chips" - …

Hi, I use the C2 connector J2 signals to control power distribution for several attaches devices. A n-channel MOSFET is driven by a GPIO signal, with pulldown (3k3) to ensure that the n-channel MOSFET is off, - as long as the GPIO pin is in tristate or input state. I considered this to be the case for all "normal" GPIO lines (except I2C and SPI). I see now that after powerup, at least GPIOX_5 is active and switches on my load until I can export the GPIOX_5 and drive it low. Does anyone know if the GPIO lines are driven actively after powerup / reset? And if so, can this behaviour be changed in U-boot or kernel environment? The philosophy of t…

Hello armbian community, I am coming from the official Hardkernel minimal Ubuntu image to armbian (I need a newer kernel than the 3.16 in Hardkernel images). I'd like a headless setup, so I have downloaded and flashed what is inside Armbian_5.49_Odroidc2_Debian_stretch_next_4.17.3.7z. So far so good, the image boots to login prompt. However when I want to log in, the characters typed do not appear on the screen. I have tried several keyboards (one of them being the same keyboard I'm typing this post on so I know it works), both wired and wireless, connected directly or via a USB hub, still nothing. I've also tried flashing the desktop image from Armbian_5.49_O…

Hi all, preparing an image for our next deployment (10 Odroid C2), I found that somehow the MAC address visible in Uboot doesn't make it into Armbian system. On the first copied system (I use odroidbackup.pl), in Uboot "Printenv" I get ethaddr=00:1e:06:36:58:63 Original system gives me: ethaddr=00:1e:06:34:fa:1a Both systems report to our DHCP server with the latter MAC, which will lead to troubles when both boards will be in the same network Any hints how to get the (apparently eFuse stored) MAC into the Armbian system? Thanks in advance, Michael

Hi armbian team ! I've been running my Odroid C2 for almost 2 years with the only then available distro for my board : odrobian. As that distro is now left without maintainer, I'm turning to other distros and am glad to see my board supported by armbian (which I currently use on various Orange Pi boards). Is there a path to migrate my Odroid C2 installation from odrobian to armbian with minimum downtime ? (it's a server) Or should I consider installing everything from scratch on another board and copy my configuration there ? Thanks !

Hi, I've downloaded and successfully installed Armbian_5.47_Odroidc2_Debian_stretch_default_3.16.57 on an Odroid C2 (eMMC) : HDMI output is working fine. Then I ran: apt-get update then apt-get upgrade then I got a message saying that the kernel has been updated and that I need to reboot. After the reboot, I have no HDMI output anymore. SSH is available and board seems to be working fine. For information, after the update: uname -a Linux jeedom 3.16.57-odroidc2 #72 SMP PREEMPT Wed Sep 19 12:32:15 CEST 2018 aarch64 GNU/Linux Tried this without success. I've tested with other cable and screen, no success.

Tested on Odroid C2 system startup from the USB stick (via script s905_autoscript, I prefer to run existing images without any modification). If add the script to the boot.ini a few lines, you can run images from a USB drive. This can be useful if there is on eMMC or on a SD card configured with the system and felt the need to run temporarily another system (without overwriting the existing SD\eMMC media). For example, for temporary checks new images, when unknown , to like this system or not, or for testing settings\software-that-be not to destroy the already set up working system. Process start automatically if the connected USB drive and it has a script that starts the…

So as we know, the Hardkernel kernel did support powering the device on and off via a GPIO pin. This does not seem to work on Armbian with the mainline kernel. What does work is powering the device on and off with the remote control. So I wonder, what has to be done to enable power on and off vie the GPIO? My approach till now makes it possible to shutdown the device via GPIO interrupt. But then it will not come up again except if I reconnect the power cord or use the remote. I use this user device three overlay btw: /dts-v1/; /plugin/; /{ fragment@0 { target = <&ao_pinctrl>; __overlay__ { powe…

Hi there! I just got my hands on a brand new Odroid C4. I flashed Armbian Bullseye (tried Buster too as Bullseye is marked unstable) onto an SD card. The Issue I'm now facing is, after any sort of kernel update the board will not properly soft reboot anymore. I can restart the freshly installed system (which I generated the ix link with) as many times as I want using /sbin/reboot, but one apt upgrade later the board hangs in limbo when I issue a soft reboot. What exactly is happening? 1. When I power on my HC4 it awaits for …

Running ODroid HC4 on Armbian bookworm with Openmediavault 7 with docker compose plugin. I've done 2 clean installs to ensure the problem is reproducable and not something I meddled with. I spent time on Docker's forums running sample containers I was asked to try, they viewed my settings logs for docker and were at a loss. The containers go up fine and are running. They just cannot be accessed even from the host machine e.g. curl http://localhost:8080 fails when running a sample container docker hub forums supplied me with as a 'surefire' test. --- services: test_default_bridge: image: nginx:latest network_mode: bridge …
