Hi everybody, I running Helios64 with kernel 6.12.58 since a long time and the prahal dtb file rk3399-kobol-helios64.dtb-6.12.xx-L2-hs400-opp and my helios64 work well. Today, Armbian upgrade to 6.18.10 kernel. Is this update use the same change or patch like in rk3399-kobol-helios64.dtb-6.12.xx-L2-hs400-opp ? Is rk3399-kobol-helios64.dtb-6.12.xx-L2-hs400-opp work with 6..18.10 kernel ? Is I must to downgrade to 6.12.58 kernel with rk3399-kobol-helios64.dtb-6.12.xx-L2-hs400-opp and freeze at this kernel version ? Thanks for answer.

Hi all, currently i'm working on upcoming Helios64 board. For RK3399 board there are 2 families, what are the differences between them? I've been following discussion on github and this forum for few months but still unsure which family i should use.

/proc/sys/crypto doesn't exist, so anything checking the status of /proc/sys/crypto/fips_enabled fails terribly. (Specifically trying to bring up a FreeIPA server which includes tomcat-based Dogtag CA, it checks for FIPS during setup, dies). I see there is an rk_crypto kernel module available, so I don't know why /proc/sys/crypto itself is missing. I tried 'modprobe rk_crypto' and it loaded (appears in output of 'lsmod'), but /proc/sys/crypto still doesn't exist.

Hello, i am pretty new to arm embedded. I have a Rock64 V3.0 2019-0626 So I downloaded Armbian 22.08 Jammy XFCE from https://www.armbian.com/rock64/ and copied it on a 265GB SanDisk Extreme microsd XC 1 V30 A2 using Balena Etcher. Boot process did work, but startxfc4 did not work. The system just went on a blackscreen, but i could still switch to another terminal with alt+f1 ... Best regards, Bo

Hi. I've just bought a Rock Pi 4a board, I plan to use it as home server, running stuff like Owncloud, Postfix/Dovecot, Apache, pihole, OpenHab, Emby server etc. I'm thinking of running Armbian on it, but I have absolutely no experience of this dist (I've been managing Debian/Ubuntu servers for many years though). It's going to run headless. I'm wondering what would be the best way to set up disks from an Armbian point of view. My main reason for buying Rock Pi is for the M.2 port, I'm going to put my data on a M.2 disk. Booting from M.2 seems to be tricky though so I'm thinking about booting from micro SD card. I don't want to put any important data or a…

Hi all, I'd just like to share a problem I experienced and what solved after a bit of Googling. Basically, I have Nextcloud installed on my Nanopi M4 (v1) with Armbian: $ uname -a Linux nanopim4 4.4.192-rk3399 When I sync files from my Android phone via local wifi, often the transfers were just failed. Not always but usually, it's when a directory contains lot of large files. After a bit of Googling and came across this: https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/494290/nanopi-m4-rk3399-apache2-ssl-large-download-hangs/495378#495378 It works. The problem's solved after: ethtool -K eth0 rx off tx off and put the com…

With the stable images for NanoPi M4 I see CPU speed is limited to 1.8Mhz, whereas with nightly builds I get up to 2GHz for the fast cores. I would rather like to stay with stable image, also because boot time is much longer with nightly builds. What is the easiest way to enable up to 2GHz CPU speeds with stable build? JB

I've found a problem with Armbian on the NanoPi Neo 4 with USB 3.0. I have a RAID6 via four USB 3.0 external hard disks (I know, not optimum but it's been working fine for years off an older ARM box using USB 2.0). While the RAID works fine on the USB 2.0 port (established this was true afterward), when connected to the USB 3.0 port, the USB 3.0 hub I'm using disconnects after only a few seconds, disconnecting all the drives (of course). I initially used an unpowered USB 3.0 hub (I forget the manufacturer; I can check). I figured at first, this might be a power issue (even though the external drives are all self-powered). I found a 10-port power…

On my NanoPi-R6C I have been doing several U-boot updates (writes with dd to areas in 1st 32k) and so far so good. But behavior has changed w.r.t. eMMC v.s. SD-card. I want to do some U-boot build config changes, so the risk it that something might go wrong and I would need USB MASKROM mode to do writes to eMMC I think. The NanoPi-R6C wiki is not very clear with 'connect USB', but it turn out that this should be a connection via type-A to type-A and it does not work in the USB2 port. I have a USB2-only type-A to type-A cable and used that. The NanoPi-R6C appears in the USB device list ('lsusb') and also the tool is seeing the device: /tmp/up…

I wanted to upgrade from the previous release to the current one. apt update & apt upgrade and reboot worked fine but I noticed it was still on the 5.10 kernel so I used the config utility to switch to 6.7 and now I can't get a display output on HDMI 1 or 2 and its not getting an IP address either. I'm booting from M.2 NVME. Is there any way to fix my setup?

Hello, Armbian 25.8.1 on Helios64 BookWorm with Linux 6.12.42-current-rockchip64. I have my system booting from SD with OMV7 installed and several docker containers running. Everything is OK. Now I want to boot from emmc. Used armbian-install selecting option boot from emmc - system on emmc. Formatting and copying goes Ok, but when I reboot from emmc (extracting th SD card), OMV7 presents the web frontend, but can't log in. journalctl reports errors accessing the drives, and looking on /etc/fstab, there's only the / partition mounted. Inserting and mounting the SD card in /mnt/sdcard I can see that in /mnt/sdcard/etc/fstab there's…

Hi all, I have found a weird condition. I have a home built image running off sd card with no probs. my EMMC has friendly distro on it. I ran nand-sata-install to install armbian to EMMC. then I ran growpart and resize2fs against the EMMC and rebooted. afterwards, host failed to boot from emmc. so I thought "no probs, boot of sd". But SD failed to boot also. I tried same SD card in 1st gen nanopim4. boot happened fine. retried boot in nanopim4v2 and failed to boot. re-wrote arbian image and still failed to boot from SD. wrote friendly image to sd card and boot happened fine. ran dd against emmc and re-wr…

Hi, I would like to make backup(s) of my system. The system (debian) is installed on sata SSD @ slot 1. I would like to have the backup of the system written to zfs pool on the other slots as an image. Which in case of system SSD failure, I could write back to a new SSD installed on the same slot 1, by booting to a rescue system from micro sd card. Have this kind of functionality already been implemented? Or parts of it? Linux has a bunch of backup solutions, but I suspect they might not work with the helios64 box (sd card, internal ssd). And my only helios64 box is in "production" use, so "trial and error" method is not the first option in my min…

Hey, posting this in hopes that someone might have an ideas as to why this is happening. I've been dealing with an issue with my ZFS pool for a while now where the pool gets suspended but there are no other error indicators. WARNING: Pool 'rpool' has encountered an uncorrectable I/O failure and has been suspended. I'm using ZFS on top of LUKS and used to have problems with my drives resetting due to SATA errors, but I haven't really seen that issue since I started using my own SATA cables and limiting SATA speed to 3 Gbps. My working theory for last week has been that it's a problem with the CPU, perhaps some handover between big.LITTLE. So I've t…

I have installed open media vault on my rock64 and I have a sata3 disc drive connected to the usb3 port. I have tried both armbian and ayufan firmwares and the speed of the samba shares is 30 MB/sec. I know that the system can do more as with FTP I get 100MB/sec. I have tried many samba tweaks but nothing changes, is this the max I can expect?

I just purchased a 4GB Rock64. I've tried both the Ubuntu (Armbian Bionic Desktop 4.4.y) and Debian (Armbian Stretch Desktop 4.4.y) distros. I'm finding that the Debian distro is very sluggish compared to the Ubuntu distro. The desktop is sluggish in responding to mouse clicks and in Chromium, a basic web page takes about 3 seconds to display compared to about 1 second with Ubuntu. Is this the same performance difference that other people are finding with these distros on the Rock64? Is there some configuration tweak I need to make to improve Debian performance? Is there another distro that I should check out that would give me better performance?

I have seen many problems with the Rock64 v3 in the last few days. Many customers have told me that existing Rock64 images suddenly no longer boot in v3. We have verified this and found that apparently v3 can not cope with many SD cards. The booting of eMMC goes without problems. If a customer has bought a new v3 and nothing works, contact us, we will send you an emmc card for the purchase price without any profit. markus@humberg.de

Hi guys, I have been using my Helios64 for more than a year now. I have it connected with the 1Gbps NIC. I have been reading about network bonding and getting both NICs up and running. The main purpose would be to have it running in mode "Adaptive Transmit Load Balancing" (mode 5). First I've discovered the issue with the 2.5Gbps not being able to keep a consistent (and performant) speed. So I've soldered the missing pin from the capacitor to the NIC (more on this later). I've checked the speed and now it is up to specs, getting very close to 1000Mbps (960-980Mbps). But here it comes the problem that I'm facing, if I enable both independently …

Hello. Good day. I managed to installed Android on the OrangePi RK3399 using the Linux_Upgrade_tool (v 1.49), but, I'm struggling to get the board to boot back to Linux. I created an sdcard from the debian image from the OragenPi website, but, when I try to boot is with the sdcard insert, I get the messages below on the serial terminal. Removing the sdcard boots normally on Android (installed on emmc). Pressing spacebard doesn't do anything during boot. Also, trying to flash the Linux image via the Linux_Upgrade_tool doesn't work (always return a fail). Any ideas how to make this board boot back on Linux? Thank you. DDR Version 1.07 2…

Hi, Have the r2s for some time and it worked well in the beginning. But then it started to freeze randomly. The logs do not have any error in it. Initially I thought it could be the interface drive problem, changed the interface and still freezes. When the r2s is frozen, serial port won't respond. Keeping serial connection and restarting the r2s, boot messages show normally. When I keep the serial connected, r2s do not freeze (tried for more than a week). Found this other post, not sure if this is the same problem as it does boot, but seems related. mUSB serial connection rarely works. Have to boot some times until it works. Although I am an exp…

Hi all! I have Armbian installed on a rock 4SE (Tagged as 4B as it uses the same image i believe) as the base for an OpenMediaVault. Yesterday i installed the latest version of Bookworm, as i am running OMV7 and that, as far as i can tell, does not work on Trixie. I am not ready to upgrade to Trixie/OMV8, as im not sure there is support for my Penta sata hat yet. My issue is that if i install the updates, either through OMV interface, or apt, the device does not boot after applying the updates. As far as i can tell from logs etc. something is either wrong with loading the kernel image on boot, or with the image itself. If i install Armbian, and then OMV, ev…

I have a serious problem as I mentioned in a title Currently I'm using Armbian on my NanoPi M4 and very satisfied its functionality But when I try to use usb3 device (especially camera from ZWO campany, ZWO ASI 178) with it, it doesn't recognize it as USB3 device but USB2 by checking the data transfer speed with "lsusb -t" Then, once I unplug the cable and plug it to the pi again, that device is recognized as USB3 and the data transfer speed becomes much higher. I need to get USB3's fast data transfer as soon as the board gets booted, without unplugging cables since now it's not that easy to access to the board and cable. I tried usb r…

Hi all, https://paste.armbian.com/koqimivaro vendor kernel boots, detects ethernet, wifi & nvme (booting from SD card) and seem to be working well. Also attached are the UART gathered first boot/install logs. I think the SBC accidentally skipped over the root password by resting on the enter key 😁 uart-logs.txt

Hi all, I am used to update my systems every day, but this time.... Yesterday, all of a sudden, after an "apt update" command showed to me there was 222 updates available. Wow, there was many updates on KDE, I left it for later, but after finishing my tasks I made the upgrade. After reboot, at login screen, password was accepted but login screen reappears. I tryed many times. I noticed that login was set to "KDE Wayland"... I changed to "KDE X11" and Bingo... Login ok. But Task bar is shown everything to the left and without the apps. All apps used before last logout were reopened, but all of them were located o…

What am I missing ? Just flashed Armbian_20.11.7_Nanopim4v2_buster_legacy_4.4.213_desktop on a SD card and the NanoPi does not boot. I get a steady red led and no flashing green and nothing on the HDMI. I don't get that problem when Flashing the eMMC...the problem is that I don't have that eMMC anymore and I am looking for a way to install Armbian on my NanoPi's NVMe SSD drive from the SD card. Any hints would be appreciated.

Hi, i'm currently trying to disable the serial console on port 2 on my Rockchip based Rockpi 4B (based on rk3399). I already found the following forum thread, that describes in brief, that i basically have to recompile my own armbian image. But still I'm missing some information. I have read the docs in docs.armbian.com and watched the YouTube video on how to build an armbian image. So far, i was able to setup a VM for building an image on my workstation. I also had a successful compile run yesterday, that created some output in my output folder. Now, I'd like to apply a patch, that changes the serial debugging console during boot from port 2 to port 4. …

I bought a NanoPC-T4 development board designed by friendlyelec and installed the Armbian operating system. But the heat generated by the Rk3399 main control chip is too high. I bought an official PWM fan. According to the official wiki, the fan can work normally. However, under the same configuration under Armbian, the fan can’t work normally, so I What work needs to be done? Thanks.

I have a Rock64 v2. For my project I wish to connect the board to an MCP3008 ADC chip via SPI so I can read some analog sensors. Pretty straightforward. But when I look at /lib/modules/4.4.178-rockchip64/kernel/drivers I see there are modules for i2c, usb, one wire, GPIO ... everything but SPI. Am I out of luck? Hi Folks, I have a NanoPiM4 and loaded Ambian 5.75 onto an SD card, it boots great (Thanks Armbian!). How I've added the FriendlyElec 2.8 TFT module (240x320) and want to configure it. So I used the handy `armbian-config` to pick up the kernel headers and sources, and went to go an add fbtft and select the ST7789V driver. Only when I went to run `make menuconfig` I got: root@nanopim4:/usr/src/linux-source-4.4.174-rk3399# make menuconfig scripts/kconfig/mconf Kconfig net/Kconfig:83: can't open file "net/wireguard/Kconfig" scripts/kconfig/Makefile:28: recipe for target 'menuconfig' failed I've updated the armbian monitor stuf…

Hi there ... Not sure if anyone has an idea here, but I have the following topic: I have a helios64, equipped with 3 2.5" disk drives, running Debian 10 with Kernel 5.10.43. Usually the system runs stable ... even for days (24/7). But every now and then the disks "fail" - which means, during normal operation suddenly the disk turn of, linux reports "sata link down" ... and the disks are off. As if they were removed. If I reboot I usually here only some "klicks" ... I assume the disks try to spin up, but fail due to not enough power (?). To recover from that situation, I usually disconnect power (incl. the internal UPS) ... try a few times, and …

I built a version of Buster with the legacy kernel (4.4). when I try to install the media-buster-legacy-rk3328 package on the system, I get an error - unsatisfied dependencies on the kodi-rk package. I tried installing the Kodi-rk package manually, but it has an unsatisfied dependency on kodi-rk-bin. The kodi-rk-bin package is available and installed, but its version does not correspond to the links with Kodi-rk. Perhaps packages were updated in the repository, but dependencies do not work because of a complex package name (the alphabetical comparison condition is not met) ?

Happy New Year for all, My old Samsung Monitor stopped working some days ago, and I dont know if it will be fixed, so I decided to buy a new LG 27'' Monitor. Is it still a nightly build (I see the Buster desktop with 5.3 kernel is supported)? Where can I download it now? Will it be available for downloading again? Thanks in advance.

Since Linux 5.15, the USB3 port on ROCK64 does not work anymore with Armbian. The following kernel errors are shown: usb 5-1: USB disconnect, device number 2 [...] usb usb5-port1: Cannot enable. Maybe the USB cable is bad? This has been reported by multiple users with multiple drives and cables, also disabling UAS does not help. lsusb shows the drive/device, but lsblk does not. I know the ROCK64 is not currently supported by Armbian/has no maintainer, so I'm not expecting anything, just posting this as information and probably someone with more insights into the rockchip64 kernel build has an idea or workaround.

Hi I have spent couple of days to enable the SPI3 (the only SPI that has been routed to the 40-pin header) on Rock3A, but no success. I am trying to enable SPI3M1C0 with following pins on my Rock 3A GPIO4_C2 (CLK), GPIO4_C3 (MOSI), GPIO4_C5 (MISO), and GPIO4_C6 (CS0). I am out of idea, try different overlays but still not able to enable them. So I got my Helios64 today, built it with 2 drives, a Adata SSD on the M.2 and 2 Seagates on SATA 1 and 2. But whenever I want to boot it up, the internal blue system LED lights up + System Rail power (UPS installed) with all activity LEDs and HDD error 3 instantly with no delay. There is no Console output and nothing is to be heard spinning up. When building I noticed the cable harness having the same length for connectors 2 and 3 where 3 is too short for zip tie-ing. Help is greatly appreciated.

Hi all, today I used rsync to copy some music files from an attached USB drive to my NVME M2 SSD drive and noticed the Nanopi was getting very hot. I have it housed in an official metal case with a fan. The fan didn't come on despite the temperature of 80 + , the case was very hot to the touch. I turned it off in the end in case it got damaged. Any suggestions appreciated. The board is running the latest Buster from here.

My Helios has been running well for the most part stable for the past few weeks however last night i noticed when looking at my file systems in omv that my 14 GiB eMMC drive which houses my ambian install is at 13.13GiB and looks to be growing. Normally this sits around the 5 GiB. I have checked my docker install for anything suspicious but my plex docker is only taking up about 400mb. looking at my system logs i am getting a repeated this error which is new and might be related however i am not really sure what program is casing it. Hi folks, I am puzzled. When I am away for a few days I usually shut down my nas. It does indeed shut down but over night comes up again. Now I would like to know what triggers that unwanted restart here... I am currently on 21.08.3 Buster with Linux rockchip64 5.10.63 and do have OMV running... I could unplug the battery next time but I'd rather solve the issue the correct way. It's strange to me because I did not change any system parameters in OMV or via SSH. I do believe that an update to the latest kernel did mess things up. Where do I have to have a look?

Hi. I testing out different images for my DIY NAS project. My plan is to use the Orangepi3b board with armbian bookworm and OMV. Hi, I have deployed a NanoPi Neo 4 and for the most part, I'm happy with it, but am having a peculiar problem. I am using the manufacturer-supplied serial console cable and USB adapter (via screen /dev/ttyUSBx 115200). Once the machine is properly booted, if I hit enter, I get a serial console as normal. However, I get garbage from u-boot (and presumably from the kernel boot messages). It looks just as if I have a speed mismatch. I have tried many other speeds (1500000, 230400, 57600, 38400, 19200, 9600) and none of these seem to work. What am I doing wrong? Or is the state of the box right now that u-boot sends garbage …

Hi all, I have been using a Rock64 with hostapd and a usb adapter that uses realtek drivers for a couple of months now. Recently, like a week or two, after what i believe was a kernel update i started getting random freezes in the board. As i use it "headless", when it happens the only way to get it back working is by power cycling it. This means that until today i had no logs of what was happening. Today although, i left my laptop on for a couple hours, with tail -f on kernel.log, messages and syslog. Attached in the file called logs.txt is what i managed to obtain from a terminated ssh session to the board. Im running Linux NetMa…

RockPi4a. Installed busster current 5.8.6 armbian onto eMMC. Works fine. Now i figure out i need swap space (app needs more than the 1G mem i have). So i boot another image from SD an use gparted to shrink the first partition from the end to create 4GByte and create a swap partition in there. Now the board won't boot anymore (see attached file). Erased SPI, no difference. Partition table shows GPT and "MBR protective" (before and after resizing). so, whats the magic to create a bootable armbian disk if one needs different partitioning than just the "full disk one partition" layout ? I am unable to play files over SMB, but I can't seem to figure out what the problem is exactly. From what I can tell it *seems* ffmpeg is compiled without networking support, at least this is what smplayer was complaining about: [ffmpeg] Protocol not found. Make sure ffmpeg/Libav is compiled with networking support. Failed to open smb://192.168.1.1/transmission/myfile.mkv. Exiting... When i first started this task, the output from gpio readall would show me all 26 pins on the board. As i was digging through some forums to try and get the PWM pin to operate as on/off, i came across wiringOP and when i installed it, the output of `gpio readall` changed to only show 8pins. I am unsure of what went wrong and why it only shows 8 pins. I tried removing wiringOP and it still has not made a difference. Thanks

Hi all, I'm trying to build a NAS using the Penta SATA Hat (https://wiki.radxa.com/Penta_SATA_HAT). I'd like to use ZFS as file system. I got the "supported" Armbian Jammy image from here: https://www.armbian.com/rockpi4/ I installed the kernel headers through armbian-config. However, attempting to install the zfs-dkms package gives me Building for 6.1.30-rockchip64 Module build for kernel 6.1.30-rockchip64 was skipped since the kernel headers for this kernel does not seem to be installed. As you can see, my kernel version is 6.1.30-rockchip64: $ uname -r 6.1.30-rockchip64 However, the installed kernel he…

Hello, I was able to overclock the CPU to 1.488Ghz by editing rk3328-rock64.dtb file. But I can not figure out how to set the RAM-clock-speed. Is there any chance to ramp up the RAM clock?

Is there an accepted procedure for moving from using ramlog to logging to disk? I've looked but everything I can find is about setting up ramlog. I assume it's more complicated than just creating a partition (or ZFS dataset) and mounting it /var/log, disabling ramlog, and rebooting.

Hey all. Running the Dec 9th build of Armbian 22.11.2 Debian Bullseye CLI, and I've been running in to issues with consistently remotely connecting to the board. While ssh and other direct connections (IP:Port for services like Nextcloud, etc) work for a bit after a recent reboot, after some unknown amount of uptime I'm unable to connect to the board through any new remote connections. Attempting an SSH session provides me the error ssh: connect to host 192.168.50.5 port 22: No route to host When connected via the serial console, I am able to verify that the board has internet access while it is refusing these remote connections on the local netwo…

Armbian 22.11.2 Cinnamon desktop was successfully installed onto eMMc storage from a microSD card. However, after installing the 3D accelleration following the official Armbian instructions, the Rock 5b failed to load the desktop. Instead, after the display of the Armbian splash screen, the screen turns black with a flashing white cursor. This problem started on 25 February. Before that day, 22.11.2 Cinnamon desktop successfully operated with 3D accelleration for two months. The following was used to install the 3D accelleration: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:liujianfeng1994/panfork-mesa sudo add-apt-repository ppa:liujianfeng1994/rockchip-multimedia …
