Does anyone know how a do-release-upgrade affect an Armbian 24.8.3 installation? Had anyone upgraded to the 24.04.1 LTS release of Ubuntu? Any gotyas when upgrading? Things to do and things to avoid? What changes to allow and which to deny? I've done a release upgrade once, it took a long time and questions were asked and options presented suring the release upgrade process. Obviously I'll take an image of the MicroSD card before I even dream of attempting to use the do-release-upgrade.

Hi I can access my nextcloud in the firefox browser, but the client always states "signed out". From time to time there is a request in the browser to confirm access of the client to the nextcloud server. Howeveer, this doesn't seem to work. I guess, I should add an online account (in Preferences). But there is no button to "Add account" shown. Do you have a hint to a missing package ? I am out of ideas how to solve it. Kind regards Norbert

Hey, I've had issues using Wireguard in Armbian. I worked out a method to install but on reinstalls this method has run into problems. I've since developed a new method but am getting a strange error as below. Can anyone interpret this and tell me if it's likely to be problematic and if so is there a way forward? I've searched the Wireguard repository and there doesn't seem to be an arch specific buildset. TIA The /var/lib/dkms/wireguard/1.0.20210219/6.1.11-rockchip64/aarch64/dkms.conf for module wireguard includes a BUILD_EXCLUSIVE directive which does not match this kernel/arch. This indicates that it should not be built. Skipped.

Hi! On the Orange Pi 5 plus with the 6.1 image (KDE), with a 4k monitor @ 60FPS and 200% scaling, when opening discord on Chrome it gets incredibly laggy. I'm just curious, is this a limitation with the GPU itself, or is this related to something in the software stack? Thanks!

Hello I'm trying to setup OpenCL on Armbian 22.04 Xfce. I have an Orange Pi 5 board. First, thanks to you guys for the great work you are doing for armbian! I am quite impressed and very happy to be able to run my odroid devices (c2, m1) on the latest kernel with zfs and lxd! What I'm wondering: since there is no such thing as do-release-upgrade in armbian: What are your best practices for upgrades to avoid being forced to always install and configure everything from scratch? Since I run most everything in lxd containers and use zfs on a separate disk, upgrading is as simple as installing/compiling zfs and lxd and restoring the lxd databases, but maybe there is a better approach besides reinstalling and compiling packages?

Hi! I am using the as of this date latest armbian image Armbian 22.11 Jammy, Kernel 5.15.y, Size: 495Mb, CLI, Release date: Nov 30, 2022 for my board: https://www.armbian.com/rock64/ I am not sure if this is specifically an issue with the CLI image, or if both images are affected. I am not using a GUI. I configured a static IP address via netplan (generated and applied the config) and installed a dhcp server. The dhcp server sometimes kept failing to start on reboot. Checking the logs showed that even though the isc-dhcp-server depends on the network being configured before it tries to start, that actually systemd sometimes starts isc-dhcp-server b…

Hi, I built a NAS with a Raspberry PI. It runs ARMBIAN 5.46, a SAMBA server and an NFS server. There are also 5 disks that are combined as RAID5. Since yesterday I can no longer log in, neither via SSH nor directly on the Raspberry Pi. When I try via SSH, I get the password query, the start message about the current status and then the connection is closed. When I log in directly to the system, I get the login query (username and password) and then the message "Module is unknown". Then the login request comes again. What can I do without reinstalling the system? Thanks for the help. Jens

I'm not sure where to report this. I think this is a common problem across distros for arm. I had this same problem with manjaro arm a month ago. On a fresh install of armbian. 24.3 cli. Emacs 28.x is available. It is missing a lot of elpa packages because of out of date gpg keys. It cannot find elpa.gnu packages. It is, for me, completely unable to load and use my emacs configuration. Package-initialize and package-refresh-contents do not fix it. I built the current emacs from source, it's version 29.3 and that works much better.

There is a previous topic on this from 2020, but it's closed and not much action was taken except discussing workarounds. I'd like to continue this. Looking at the kernel configs in this repo, many of them have CONFIG_RT_GROUP_SCHED=y. This does not play nicely with modern systemd (cgroups v2), breaking things like rtkit-daemon. See https://bugs.gentoo.org/569546 and https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=655321. rtkit is an important part of making pulseaudio and pipewire work smoothly, as well as for many other low-latency applications. There are a few currently available workarounds, but none are ideal: 1. Linux 6.16 or later has boot ti…

I take regular backups from my linux boxes (rsyncing the file system). To resume, I boot from usb, copy the files to the disk of the box and then make it bootable by chrooting into the box and executing grub-install or update-grub. That works fine. But how can I do this on my odroid hc2 running armbian/bullseye? I cannot boot from usb. So I need to make the sd card bootable on my debian-amd64 pc after copying the files on it. Is there some command like "update-uboot" I can execute on amd64? Or do I need a virtual host running arm architecture to do so? Jüregen

I run Armbian Trixie in my NAS, and I saw last week that the ZFS 2.4.0 was available here: https://apt.armbian.com/pool/trixie-utils/z/zfs-linux/(it will go to one of the mirrors). The problem is the package `zfs-zed` isn't available, so I got serious problems during the update (I run Openmediavault, btw). Any tips if it's a mistake and the package should be included, or `zfs-zed` is deprecated and I need to talk with OMV team to remove this dependency?

Hi, i have some difficulties to add some boot parameters to the kernel. From what i read, the most safe procedure is to use the armbian-config tool, that will add the parameters to /boot/armbianEnv.txt file. I have Armbian 24.8.4 running on my CubieTruck. I wanted to experiment with running an access point on it, and was able to configure and run hostapd to do so. But now I want it to be a Wi-Fi client again and it appears that I royally screwed something up while playing with hostapd. When I run armbian-config and select the Network option, nothing about Wi-Fi shows up any more. Any suggestions where to start to get things back to how they were out-of-the-box? Currently we get 'sduuid' in form of [[ -z $sdblkid ]] && sdblkid=$(blkid -o full /dev/mmcblk*p1) # 3 - Extract the UUID from $sdblkid via regex: sduuid=$(echo "$sdblkid" | sed -nE 's/^.*[[:space:]]UUID="([0-9a-zA-Z-]*)".*/\1/p') which outputs only UUID 78cdc7b8-0f2e-4444-ba7c-38aa26198de1 This is fine, as long as we use it correctly afterwards, but everytime we modifify fstab, echo "${sduuid} /media/mmcboot ext4 ${mountopts[ext4]}" >> "${TempDir}"/rootfs/etc/fstab echo "/media/mmcboot/boot /boot none bind 0 0" >> "${TempDir}"/rootfs/etc/fstab which results in # <file system> <moun…

I don't quite know where to post this. I hope I am in the right place. When migrating a system from an armbian_23.02.2_Orangepi4-lts_jammy_current_5.15.93_xfce_desktop image to a SSD, armbian-install creates a broken line in /etc/fstab. The third line is missing the introductory "UUID=". The line then looks like this: xxxxxxxx-yyy-yyy-yyy-xxxxxx /media/mmcboot ext4 defaults,noatime,commit=600 ....etc. As a result, /media/mmcboot is not mounted, of course, and the boot process aborts with a cli root-login. Completing the line allows the system to boot normally. UUID=xxxxxxxx-yyy-yyy-yyy-xxxxxx /media/mmcboot ext4 defaults,noatime,commit=600 ....etc. …

I installed various version of Debian and Ubuntu Server (CLI) of armbian in orange pi 5, but there is no uart selection in armbian-config. I think this is os version problem. Could you can see the uart select in armbian-config? If so, can you tell me what I am missing? I tried apt upgrade and apt update and armbian-install, but these updates did not get me the uart port selection. Thank you for your reply

I just installed Armbian_community_26.2.0-trunk.732_Rockpi-4bplus_trixie_current_6.18.22_minimal on a Rockpi-4bplus. How do I install the correct Linux headers? The standard apt install linux-headers-$(uname -r) method doesn't work for armbian. OK, there's a corresponding option in armbian-config, and it seems to run successfully, but for some reason, I only see linux-headers-6.12.74+deb13+1-arm64 and linux-headers-6.12.74+deb13+1-common in /usr/src.

I'm having trouble understanding armbian-install, is this a good place to discuss? Basically, I'd like to understand the menu options better. Probably because it's a generic tool for all devices, the selections aren't clear (to me at least), depending on what device I'm working with. For the most part, all I ever need to do is to copy the working SD image to the eMMC or NVME. Any armbian-install gurus lurking?

Hi. Im sorry, if the question below has been already discussed and published somewhere, but i didnt find proper information. So, what i have: orangepi5max, https://github.com/armbian/build.git this armbian, https://github.com/rockchip-linux/kernel.git and this kernel, which is placed in armbian-build/kernel. I've tried to use "userpatches/linux-$LINUXFAMILY-$BRANCH.config" config from armbian manual, to specify path to kernel, but despite the fact that manual states, that my custom config should replace the default one, ./compile.sh ignores it. So what am i doing wrong and is it even possible nowadays to assebmle the image using local kernel or it is already restricted?

Hello, this is weird. With armbian 23.8.1 I can access the gpio-pins of the raspberry 4b. With (current) armbian 24.2.1 neither wiringpi (gpio -v) works nor any direct access (like echo "4" > /sys/class/gpio/export) The only difference I can find is the version of armbian. Please give me a hint on how to get gpio-access working with the current armbian. THX Edit: with raspbian it works (echo "4" > /sys/class/gpio/export and cat /sys/class/gpio/gpio4/value), so apparently I used the correct method.

Hello, I tried to reduce the clock frequency with nano /etc/default/cpufrequtils. I also set the governor to userspace in order to enable direct frequency setting. I am currently running kernel 6.1.84 To recover my information through a new mmc card I put armbian with kernel 6.12. And I logged in by doing a chroot. There used to be an option to install a newer kernel via armbian-config, but I can't find that option now. OK, so it actually was cold in FL for a couple weeks and I did a power hack. I ported Java UIO to Java UIO 2. Java UIO (HawtJNI) This was the "Old School" high-performance approach. It relied on a custom C wrapper and JNI to bridge the gap. How it works: You have to write a C helper file, compile it into a shared library (.so) for on ARM architecture (armv7l, aarch64), and bundle it in your JAR. The Overhead: Every call from Java to C has a "JNI transition cost." To minimize this, you used moveJavaToNative to bulk-transfer buffers, which added complexity to the Java code. Java UIO 2 (FFM / Project Panama) T…

Now I am trying to start the desktop environment and I am unable to. I have tried rebooting but it just goes to the CLI. Do I need to run a command like 'startx'? (startx is not working) Thank you.

Hi, After a fresh install of the stable Debian minimal/IOT image, creating the first user and switching to it, then installing the docker environment results in a non-functional docker. To be more precise everything seems to be running, only a few oddities, when installing docker, like being stuck on some steps (socket related) for way too long, then eventually carrying on and finishing with no errors... (instructions used to install docker) Also when the system reboots at least a minute has to pass with no CPU or any other observable utilisation for any docker container to automatically start. all of the above would be fine and I would chalk it…

Why doesn’t it start automatically after I log out or reboot after installation? What is causing this issue? The official Orange Pi kernel version (Orangepizero3_1.0.4_debian_bookworm_desktop_xfce_linux6.1.31) does not have this problem and runs automatically. Instead, I get the error: “dbus can't connect to fcitx5.” Every time I need to open the fcitx5 settings again and click “Run” before I can input Chinese. I have no idea what is going on. Thanks.
