Hi all Armbian fans, As of today, I checked officially platinum supported Armbian version for Orange Pi 5. I was amazed how low performing is armbian image. I was using latest armbian with HW install procedure at: https://redirect.armbian.com/orangepi5/Jammy_legacy_gnome , and Ubuntu from https://github.com/Joshua-Riek/ubuntu-orange-pi5/releases/download/v1.11/ubuntu-22.04-preinstalled-desktop-arm64-orange-pi5.img.xz Both glxinfo -B says: Accelerated : yes Armbian glmark2 Score: 705 Ubuntu glmark2 Score: 1285 Difference is HUGE When we could expect any "normal" Mali…

Hi, I have the board connected by HDMI to a TV but when I start I have no sound, I have to go to the speaker icon, configuration and the option is always selected "Speakers - internal audio" but if I want to have sound I have to choose the output option "Analogic ouput- internal audio" and if I restart I have to do the process again. According to the fine adjustment guide of ARMBIAN I must execute the command pacmd list-sinks | less And should be marked with * the selected card but none appears with that symbol. I attach the terminal output after selecting the right output on the desktop to have sound to see if someone is so kind to help me solve my problem. Thanks a…

  11. I've been trying to configure the HDMI screen I purchased for the orange pi 5. It's listed to work with the raspberry pi so I figured it should work with the orange pi 5 as well. When I connect the screen, the screen just turns white. These instructions were included in the manual to configure the usage of the screen with the raspberry pi, but I am not familiar with how to translate the configuration into armbian. Write the image to the TF card, then modify the following configuration in config.txt: # uncomment to force a specific HDMI mode (this will force VGA) hdmi_group=2 hdmi_mode=87 hdmi_cvt 1024 600 60 6 0 0 0 # unc…

I have a working system booting on NVME (when no SD card inserted), with two partitions nvme0p1 (256Mb) and nvmeop2 (40Gb) I would like to clone my working system on a SD card. How shall I proceed? I am not asking details instruction, only the rough path I should follow (e.g. dd partitions, tune2fs ......). PS: I thought it would be easy, but whatever I do, the system keep taking /boot on the nvmeop1, so I really struggle to boot on the /boot of the SD card

Basically it wasn't that hard especially if youve done some git'hubbing before. I think I followed the 'Ubuntu' instructions here. Make sure you get the dependencies and do all the steps correctly. It should build without problems if you do. (remember you have a lot of cores on Opi5 so can use 'make -j6' or even higher) https://github.com/dolphin-emu/dolphin/wiki/Building-for-Linux You then want to set a config flag to make Dolphin use GLES instead of big brother OpenGL. 25. I'm looking for information about the Ethernet chip on the Orange Pi 5. I need an SBC that has PTP hardware timestamp support (IEEE 1588). According to OrangePi.org, the Orange Pi 5 has the Motorcomm YT8531C, but I have not been able to find documentation that provides the answer about hardware PTP support. Most likely it does not, but I'd like to confirm on an actual device before purchasing one. If you have an Orange Pi 5, you can test this with this command: ls /sys/class/net |xargs -n1 ethtool -T If there is someone that is willing to run this command and post the output, I would appreciate it very much. 26. Hello!! I just got my Orange Pi 5 the other day and am trying to 'port' a program I've been working on for RPi4b over to this new board. My main question is how do I need to configure the ffmpeg codex context and formats to make use of (ideally zero copy) HW accelerated video decode on Orange Pi 5? For the raspberry code I was using these: avcodec_find_decoder_by_name("hevc"); and avcodec_find_decoder_by_name("h264_v4l2m2m"); together with codec_context->pix_fmt = AV_PIX_FMT_DRM_PRIME; // for zero copy video path But this does not work when compil…

Grapejuice + box86 + wine could do the trick and saw this interesting script: https://github.com/NicoD-SBC/armbian-gaming Will this be working for opi5 too or is it specific to rk3399 (saw that in some compiler flags)? Anybody experience or an updated installer script? Hi all, recently I installed the Mali GPU Drivers from the instructions on the official Armbian website. I have Armbian 23.02.2 Jammy installed, with KDE Plasma desktop. I found two problems: 1. The mouse flickers when I move it. This happens on both XFCE and Plasma (X11) 2. Every once in a while, the Plasma panels freeze and I have to reboot my OPI to get it to work. This also happens if I right-click on it and press "Enter Edit Mode". If I don't do that, it freezes randomly (afaik). This affects both the panels and the background (panels don't update, can't interact, cannot right-click). Does anyone know of any solutions to this? Thanks!

  41. So recently I flashed Orange Pi OS to SD card, booted from there, updated system, firmware and flashed bootloader to SPI flash. I already had an external HDD with Armbian flashed, and tried to boot from there, but no luck. If I remove the HD from fstab, it is automatically mounted under /run/media/USER. However, this must not be mounted under a user, but should be mounted as root. What can I do. Thanks very much

The build is stopping at some point because of a Warning issued by the compiler (this is the default behaviour for the compiler who does not tolerate any warning by default). (Some functions in the C code are depreciated, thus a warning is issue) How can I set the CFLAGS so that the kernel build takes it into account during compilation? Thanks.

  55. I'm looking to try an OPi5 for GPGPU. After seeing trunk recently added the patches needed to use the "gofaster" option for panfork, and having seen reports of glmark2 scores of 4000 and 5000 while never coming close to that myself, I decided to pull together the various bits of info out there and just try all of the options. A number of things done below are often described vaguely -- hopefully it's helpful here to lay out a concrete set of steps to follow and what to expect. There are two options for accelerated video: panfork and ARM's closed source "blob" driver. With either option, it sounds like you should switch from X11 to Wayland. If you are looking a…

Hi all, I am trying to recover after a failed NVMe install. I have a working install on an SDCard, but I think my board no longer boots to SDCard, since I flashed the bootloader via armbian-install. I am not sure if my NVMe install is good or not, and I can't currently reflash it. So I think my best bet is to wipe the SPI, which I hope means the board will go back to booting from SDCard. That's question 1 - is that actually a valid solution? If I wipe the SPI will I be able to again boot to SDCard? I am able to get the board into Maskrom mode, and I can see it using the Windows tool. However, I believe that I …

The problem occurs when I reboot -- the majority of the time it does not boot up successfully. 63. I finally found an official source code on the download page of OrangePI that has a version of wiring pi with support for the Orange PI 5 - unfortunately that code is not on the github of orangepi yet. I found this amazing page https://linux-sunxi.org/Sunxi-Cedrus#VLC that explains alot on VLC and hardware accelleration but I cannot clearly figure out if my playback is using hardware acceleration. I did follow all the steps to optimize chromium with the ppu sources - chromium doesn't work well yet for me - so not sure if that install worked as expected. My playback of h264 in VLC is super smooth but I have around 20-35% cpu usage (1080p videos) - I know h264 is more demanding than AV1 but someone reported AV1 with 15% CPU usage and 4k. Is there anything I can do to make sure the hardware acceleration is working (aka the VA-API is used)?
