Hi, I have installed "Armbian_22.08.7_Tinkerboard_bullseye_current_5.15.74_minimal.img.xz" on a Tinkerboard (no S, with RK3288). I have tried to set the output of some header pins without success. I used both "sysfs" and "gpiod" (which uses char-devices). Test procedure, e.g. for pin 36 (gpio223): # echo "223" > /sys/class/gpio/export # cat /sys/class/gpio/gpio223/direction in # cat /sys/class/gpio/gpio223/value 0 # echo "out" > /sys/class/gpio/gpio223/direction # cat /sys/class/gpio/gpio223/direction out # echo "1" > /sys/class/gpio/gpio223/value # cat /sys/class/gpio/gpio223/value 0 # echo "0" > /sys/class/gpio/gpio223/value # ca…

Greetings, After setting my tinkerboard pins 22 and 24 as an Inputs, they reverts to being an output pin on HIgh after around 30 seconds. What is the cause of this? Is this some kind of feature. I don't have this happen on any other pin other than these 2. iomari

Hi out there! F.Y.I. I've tried a lot of things to customize the kernel for Tinker Board on 32-bits host platform, but finally I gave it up. Instead other messy things, I followed the armbian instructions exactly, and successfully created an Armbian_5.32_Tinkerboard_Debian_jessie_default_4.4.76.img using the comile script on the recommended Ubuntu host. Unfortunately the resulted image does not boot: root@eepc:~# ttysh /dev/ttyUSB0 -s 115200 U-Boot SPL 2017.07-armbian (Jul 18 2017 - 17:40:48) Returning to boot ROM... Just as a notice the Raspberrry PI 7" DSI Touchscreen was working fine on Armbian with the 4.4 Kernel. Using the current Armbian for Tinkerboard and the 4.19 Kernel it does not work any longer, nor does it with the current development Kernel 5.1. Does there have to be any special things to be set to get it working again? On the 4.4 Kernel it was working out of the box. Thanx

Tinkerboard (old one, not S) to be used as x2go thin client. Installed latest image (5.70_Tinkerboard_Ubuntu_bionic_next_4.19.14_desktop), applied all updates. Working fine (thanks to everybody who contributed). Issue remaining: My Tinkerboard refuses to use the monitor's native display size of 1920x1200, tried several monitors and cables (HDMI to DVI adapter cables, in case this is relevant). Without any modifications, Armbian desktop comes up with 1280x960. I used xrandr to set 1920x1080 (works), but 1920x1200 leads to "xrandr: Configure crtc 0 failed". Any chance to resolve this?

Hello. In Armbian 5.34 (default, next and nightly (26/10/2017) no have permission for create, edit and delet conection on network manager. To be able to modify a connection it is necessary to open the network manager in root. It's really very exciting. Looking on the internet it turns out that it will be a problem of "policy". I had already reported this bug on the post "tinkerboard". He had been tuned to a nightly version but he came back. my account is in the group netdev and sudo like ask in the polkit Would it be possible to have a "next" version fix this bug or have the procedure to fix the error? thank

Hi there! o/ I have noticed something... Odd. This is not a show stopper here, but the TinkerBoard NIC leds stays off all the time (if no traffic) even with link. It does blink somewhat schizophrenically when there's traffic. The right NIC led is bi-color and sometimes blinks in yellow, sometimes blinks in green. For what is worth, running Kernel 4.4-120. Issue also happened in build -104, which was the original Armbian image that I have downloaded. I thought it was something with the port, cables but... Traffic flows just normally Is it... normal? :-) Have a great (tinkering) weekend!!!

Hello, I have been experimenting with the bluetooth audio on my tinkerboard. The issue is both present on the last rockchip-next (4.1x I think) and the rockchip-current 5.8.18 kernel. I am using bluez and bluealsa. The problem is specific to the onboard bluetooth, using an external bluetooth dongle (a cheap and old CSR Bluetooth 3.0 dongle from China) works as expected, I can even send audio to multiple devices simultaneously (quality is very bad, but thats a bandwidth problem). As long as I just connect one bluetooth audio device everything is fine. I can have multiple paired, but disconnected, devices and as long as I connect and p…

I try to get working a tinkerboard on a battery. I can do that with S.USV or S.USV Mobile but i don't know the difference between them. I have a xl4015 (5Amp buck convecter) but I don't really understand how it's work (i have a lm2596 too). I have a 20AWG micro-usb too but i can power it too from gpio. So i search a quick way to get it work on a battery. I work and search on this since 5 week and i really need to get it work. Thx

Hello! I set up a firewall on the Asus Tinkerboard. I came across a very strange thing - the lack of support for the CT target in iptables. In fact, it appears that iptables has support of given target, but the required kernel module is missing. After running cat /boot/config-4.4.120-rockchip | grep NETFILTER_XT_TARGET_ST I saw the following: # CONFIG_NETFILTER_XT_TARGET_CT is not set. What the reason of that decision? It blocks ability to forward sip, ftp and some other protocols precisely. And also blocks ability to use SYNPROXY target correctly. Is it planned to include this module in the build?

I have Tinker Board S. I have been using both Tinker OS and Armbian for a while. Recently I upgraded to 5.4.28-rockchip. I noticed that randomly and frequently when I watch cnn.com or other media, my video would freeze. Initially I thought the firefox or chromium crashes. However, later, I realized it was the network issue. Other devices were still able to connect to the internet. When I checked the ifconfig, the network devices still showed proper connection. However, there is no way to ping any URLs. Disconnecting/reconnecting network does not fix the issue. The only fix was reboot. How can I troubleshoot this issue? I was trying to do armbianmonitor but at …

I put a TinkerBoard in a Pi-Top CEED and using TinkerOS 2.0.8 it boots and the LCD works fine. Using Armbian it looks like it boots but nothing is displayed on the LCD. The Pi-Top CEED uses a HDMI to 30-pin converter board and the current LCD is a 1920x1080 14in that I used to upgrade the original. Any ideas why the Raspberry running Raspbian and The Tinkerboard running TinkerOS would work with the display but Armbian wouldn’t?

No go / boot Any suggestions on how to fix.... Thanks... There is a bit here which is what it used to re-write TinkerOS to the eMMC https://tinkerboarding.co.uk/wiki/index.php?title=Setup Really like the Armbian CLI versions as lightweight and without bloat.

Hello there. At present I power my Tinker Board S with a bench power supply set to 5.25V. The power supply has 10A current limiter. I measure the voltage at the GPIO pins using a 6.5 digit multimeter (in cal). The micro usb cord is 1.2 meters (4 feet). When the board is running in tinker os at idle, it is drawing 500mA, and i read 5.00V on the GPIO. But when I load the CPU using sysbench the current spikes to 1.6A, and the voltage measured on the GPIO drops to 4.45V. I measured that the micro USB cable is 0.37Ohm resistance, so about 0.55V of that power drop is due to the micro usb cable. That means all of the voltage drop is not due to the power c…

Hello, I have set kernel.panic=180 in /etc/sysctl.conf to reboot on a kernel panic. Before, the system would keep running/hanging and I could read the errors if I turned on a attached display. Now the result is that the tinkerboard switches off. My expected result would be a reboot. Do I have to set something else? Or do I need to use watchdog? I am using the original tinkerboard with debian bullseye, kernel 5.15.48-rockchip.

Hi every body, I am a new user of Armbian and Linux based system. I wanted to use the Tinkerboard because of his 4K video processor (I am programming a special video application) I install Armbian following the steps of the site. Everything went good, the system is runing. I made all update an so on. Then I wanted to test a video (MP4 1920x1080) capability with the build in player, and the video is playing very slow. I try too a Youtube video, same thing... Meanwhile I installed a TinkerIOS linaro and TinkerOS android, video are playing at the good speed... Hi. I installed Armbian_20.02.1_Tinkerboard_bionic_current_5.4.20_desktop on my TinkerBoard (not S) and get weird screen state (white, then growing black circle in the middle). After reboot I got same screen. Is it known bug? Can it be related, that I'm using HDMI-to-VGA adapter? Can you help me to fix it or get usefull logs?

Hello, I'm observing a strange behavior. If I connect the Tinkerboard to HDMI, it won't start. Only the red led LED lights up. Yellow and green did not light up. The Tinkerboard ist connected to a NorthPada 5V 3A Micro USB Charger power supply. I measured the supply voltage with 5.3V and checked with an oscilloscope if there are voltage dips. But the voltage was stable. I did a cross test. I unplugged the HDMI cable and started the Tinkerboard. The Tinkerboard starts and the yellow and green LEDs lights up. I measured the supply voltage with 5.3V and checked with an oscilloscope if there a voltage dips. The voltage was stable and dropped to roughly 5.1V for a short ti…

So those of us working on getting Retro Pie working on the Tinkerboard have run into a road block. Perhaps someone here might have a clue on this? Current using these instructions to build Retro Pie using the legacy Armbian Debian (4.4) https://github.com/Tinkerpie/Armbian-Setup And for audio over HDMI you need to currently make a change in /usr/share/alsa/alsa.conf setting defaults.pcm.card to 1 When this script linked down below: https://github.com/Rydra/bgm-for-es The BGM script takes over all audio so for instance the audio in games does not work or any other audio such as audio from the video sna…

I have long struggled with a problem with my Rock S0: If using the USB OTG port in device mode, the connection would suddenly drop randomly, minutes or sometimes hours after initialization. I spent months on and off looking for solutions, and I finally found one, so here it is if you ever find yourself having the same problem. Basically, it is caused by the SoC being very sensitive to voltage drops before the USB controller interprets it as the connection being lost. It's far more sensitive than it needs to be, given that my device is bus-powered and so the OS never actually needs to worry about a connection loss. If the connection is lost it is because I have unplug…

Needed/wanted to add Bluetooth to my OPi5 and also needed WiFi at the same time. Did not want to use 2 USB ports so I tried the T2UB. Working well. Bluetooth appeared on my Armbian Ubuntu Jammy setup and I plugged in the dongle. It saw a few of my bluetooth devices. Reason I wanted bluetooth is to use a controller for some games/emulators. I'll make another post for that. My PS4 Dualshock controller is not showing up in the list of devices. My version is an older version, Armbian 23.06.420 Jammy with Linux 5.10.160-rk35xx No end-user support: built from trunk Conclusion: TPLink T2UB should work properly on Armbian Ubuntu desktop.

On the OrangePI-5-Plus, using an edge kernel, I've found that the desktop environment's GPU rendering works very smoothly on Wayland, in KDE 6 on Debian Trixie. It renders much more smoothly than gnome with Wayland (it's been my experience that the edge kernel is the only one that works). But I've encountered a major rendering bug. It only appears in Trixie KDE Plasma 6 with Wayland rendering. It does not appear when using x11 or when using either rendering in gnome. Nor does it appear at all in Bookworm. I have tried all kinds of things to "fix" these to no avail, including installing more wayland and mesa packages, then upgrading them to stable b…

I had this plan on utilizing the Radxa Rock 5 ITX+ as a Moonlight client device to stream games from my desktop computer to my living room TV, and using my 8BitDo Ultimate controller to play. On paper, the board has all the bells and whistles needed to do it, but I am having trouble getting hardware decoding of H264 and/or HEVC to work as expected. Hi, I was just trying to test locally build image with edge kernel (Armbian_23.11.0-trunk_Orangepi5-plus_bookworm_edge_6.6.0-rc1.img) by flashing it on SD card and then trying to boot off it in my Orange Pi 5+. Do I have to carry out some extra step(s) to test the edge kernel? It's not a show-stopper for me as I have legacy image booting of EMMC nicely (and I am running jellyfin in docker happily there). It's just I thought I might test out some bleeding-edge s…

Hi gals & guys, Came over to this forum from the OPI forums which seem.. rather low on real-user activity. I am quite new to the SBC Arm64 platform and have many questions. I am an experienced sysadmin on x86/amd64 and still figuring out the differences. I bought a Orange Pi 5 Plus 32G of RAM and i am running of the 256G emmc. I am able to run different OS's (OPI-Ubuntu, OPI-debian, plain Ubuntu and Armbian). As i intend to use the board as server i didn't look into Android and the like.. My plan is running (OMV) from the emmc and attaching ZFS storage by means of a nvme-to-sata adapter and providing iscsi storage from there to my home-lab with my VM's …

Has anyone made (or bought!) an adapter that takes the 3 pin TTL-level console port and converts it to a DB9 or RJ45 port that can mount in a PCI bracket? If so, what did you use? And what port did you use to power it as the console port does not provide a 3.3V or 5.5V pin for power (there is a pin labeled "RSV" which seems to supply 5V and may be usable but I don't know its capabilities). I've done this before for other systems using these without too much trouble but when I tried with this board it's not working. Admittedly I haven't hooked it up to a scope to look at the signals, but I'm suspicious of the high baudrate being to blame. I have a couple USB ad…

Hi everyone!👋 I would like to turn off the leds on my Orange Pi 5. I already tried this with no success, since I can't find the mentioned files (I have /sys/class/leds/status_led instead of red/orangepi etc.). Any tips? Thank you in advance! 🙂

I've found information on how to use your own IR remote controller from this site: https://forum.odroid.com/viewtopic.php?f=215&t=44671 In short: 1. Enable logging from the IR kernel module, enter in a terminal: sudo -i echo 1 > /sys/module/rockchip_pwm_remotectl/parameters/code_print dmesg -w 2. Check if your remote is supported by pressing the keys on your remote. It should give you info like: [ 3485.342354] USERCODE=0xfb04 [ 3485.369309] RMC_GETDATA=fd 3. Download the overlay file below and edit the usercode and the code for each key. So for like with the key above it'll be 0xfd 4. Place the header f…

While doing various tests, also other bootloader than EDK2-UEFI v1.1 that I had in eMMC, I discovered that with 2026.01-rc2_armbian-2026.01-rc2-S365a-Pa203-He3cc-V062a-Bbf55-R448a kernel 6.18.0-rc7-edge-rockchip64 did not find/enable audio via HDMI. I moved the computer to other room where I rely on the speakers in the monitor, else I would not have discovered it as I also use networked pulseaudio. What works is 2025.01-armbian-2025.01-S6d41-Pdb4b-H2194-V062a-Bb703-R448a, so sort of last-known-good, got that via: sudo apt install linux-u-boot-nanopi-r6c-current=25.8.1 and wrote the binary with dd to eMMC Another issue is that the monitor …

Today my effort is getting the rk3288 tv box boot from USB devices. During the initialization of the OTG USB port, u-boot complaints about dwc_otg_core_host_init() function which is timing out. I tried to manipulate the device tree chaning the dr_mode flag to host, otg and peripheral, but nothing changed. The only way to get rid of the timeout is to disable the device which, by the way, seems to not work anyway. Hi, i get a probleme with the actual uart acces config by default on Uart2 (pin 32, 33), because i need to use PWM pin (use to set motor speed with a L293D) and on the board only pin 32, 33 can be use with PWM. Now i am using 32 33 pin as PWM but if the cable on these pin is connected the board doesn't boot, maybe because the uarts of u-boot use these pin and the result of un connected cable to my setup = Critical fail. When i remove the cable on pin 32 the board boot. So i need to solve that because i don't want to disconnect this cable at each start and i want to use uarts with this setup. I need to change uart2 to uart1 or find a way to get PWM or a other pin option …

I installed U-Boot in the Orange Pi 5's SPI memory, connected via UART via the CH340G adapter (the power switch is lost). The speed is 1500,000 baud, 8n1. Connected TX-RX, RX-TX, GND-GND. After starting the board, I see the logs, but I can't enter anything at all. When I change the power supply, the input works, but it enters incomprehensible characters instead of the usual ones. When installing the EDK2-RK3588, there was no such problem on the same power supply and adapter. How can I fix the UART input?

I can't seem to get UART to work on Radxa Zero 3W System info https://paste.next.armbian.com/savaleceqe The usual enable UART options (that I see with other boards) do not show up under armbian-config->System->Kernel->Manage Device Tree Overlays. Hello everyone, I’m using a Radxa Zero 3E with Armbian 24.8.1 Bookworm OS and trying to connect a device to Radxa via UART. However, I can’t seem to find the ttyAML0 interface. The only UART interfaces visible are ttyS1 and ttyFIQ0 , but neither works for my setup. I have connected the device to the UART_AO_A pins (pins 8 and 10). Additionally, when I go to armbian-config -> System -> Hardware, no hardware appears on the screen. Could this issue be related to the Armbian image I am using? I’ve already tried the b6 image, but it has a boot problem. I also noticed that the other official Radxa images are marked as pre-release. …

Hello Everyone, As I am still working on hardening my Odroid-M1 servers, I am looking for a solution to activate a real console for root login only. My homelab is not in the same room as my desk, so I need to get access from an internal VLAN with restrictions and take control even if the network drivers are not enabled. Have you tested or used a UART to Ethernet converter like https://www.pusr.com/products/ethernet-to-uart-modules-usr-k7.html or https://www.waveshare.com/uart-to-eth.htm or something else? Let me know your thoughts. Sincerely, Frederic

Hello everyone, I use my Orange Pi 5 board to run Open Media Vault with Wireguard installed. But there is a known issue with Wireguard that, when installing it, you have to manually reinstall the correct kernel into the board again, otherwise it won't be able to boot. However, ever since it has been installed, during apt update / apt ugrade of my board, it keeps recognizing the wrong kernel to be updated and changing the symlinks inside the /boot/ folder, rendering the board unbootable. If I see this happening, I can change the symlinks and it works normally after that. However, sometimes the symlinks changes unnoticed and I cannot boot anymore. I…

A few days ago I had an issue with a successfully running Armbian installation running from the NVME of my Orange Pi 5 that suddenly developed an issue with nothing being shown on my TV. So after seemingly not being to identify the problem, I started again, wrote the image to an SD card and then moved the installation to the NVME drive using armbian-config utility. So now that I have a set-up that works again, I want to instigate a more belt and braces approach and create an image of the NVME installation using GZIP to compress the image file and decided to use the DD option from terminal. Having tried well over a hundred different comb…

I've ran into two issues. The first my board won't boot off the Armbian Debian vendor image. Second it boots off the mainline Debian image, but when I try installing the boot onto the MTD via option 7 in Armbian-install it completes, but I get a solid blue LED and a UART output that hangs on BL31: Preparing for EL3 exit to normal world -> Entry point address = 0x200000 -> SPSR = 0x3c9 then it hangs. Before this I tried manually erasing the SPI and loader and reinstalling them with rkdeveloptool, but this didn't help. I would provide the UART logs, but the server is failing at uploading images. I'm looking to boot off the nvme, but I'm not sure how to resolve this.

I still have a problem configuring the wifi hotspot on the armbian distribution for tinkerboard. The hotspot is clearly unstable. So none of my computers can't connect to it and my phones and tablets have a unstable connection. I thought having found a turnover using a call to iw with a frequency of 1s. to recap: Tinkerboard (rev 1?) has 2 USB devices (from RK3288's internal ports), one for the Realtek HD audio, and one for the 4 USB ports (Genesys 4-port USB hub). while i have no info for the HD audio, the hub is powered via the 5V lines (noted as V5 pin in the datasheet). my mistake would be not checking if all the 5V power lines are shorted, or it's just connected to the hub. there's an option to NC the pin if using an external regulator (say, the RK808 power management chip?) The LAN is separated to the hub and instead directly connected to the RK3288 At least the datasheet for RK3288 says. no pinouts whatsoever so i think …

Hello, I'm enabling g_ether driver on tinker board. The driver works and I'm able to emulate an Ethernet adapter on my PC when I connect it to the tinker micro USB port. This only works if the micro USB connection exists before powering ON the board. If I connect it while the device is already running nothing happens. This behavior may be related to the following kernel path: https://patchwork.kernel.org/patch/10535905/ Is there any parameter I can add to avoid the USB from going to hibernate state? Or would it be possible to add the mentioned patch to armbian build tool? Thanks!

Hello, using the image provided at https://www.armbian.com/rockpro64/ the board works when booted via uSD card but not via MMC. There appears to be no device mode USB drivers installed. I pulled the kernel sources with `armbian-config` and compiled them myself making sure to select dual-mode support for the DWC2 and DWC3 drivers. The kernel boots after install, but I still see nothing in /sys/class/udc and am unable to see any dwc2/3 drivers (save dwc2_pci and some dwc3 i3c drivers). I'm able to load libcomposite, the configfs driver, but that does not pull in a USB device mode driver. I'm unable to attach armbian monitor status right now but will update my po…

Dear All, I have a USB wifi device that has always been working fine at boot with linux 5.1, now I upgraded to 6.1 gnome/vendor and I got a strange behavior on my OPI 5: - If I have wifi device plugged and power on the PI5, the USB device is not seen (no trace of it with lsusb). - If I have wifi device plugged and power on the PI5, the USB device is not seen (no trace of it with lsusb). But, with the PI 5 still running, If I unplug it and re-plug it, it is recognized and works fine. Also after that, if I issue a sudo reboot, the wifi device will be seen and work properly. (it does not matter what usb port I use white, or blue, same b…

Hi! I've got a problem getting USB devices to work with Armbian 22.02.1 (Tinkerboard_bullseye_current_5.15.25) - fresh install, bare image without any modifications. While a simple usb keyboard would more or less work, plugging some devices seems to crash the built-in USB hub. This happens in "cold"-plug as in "hot"-plug, whereas there are slight differences. Booting up without any USB device attached: lsusb Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub Bus 001 Device 002: ID 05e3:0608 Genesys Logic, Inc. Hi, I am wanting to try running OPNsense under proxmox, but before that I wanted to setup the type-C port as a management port. I have added g_cdc in /etc/modules to load the kernel module and if I run a vendor kernel, it works fine. I plug my laptop in to the boards type-C port and it shows up as an ethernet adapter and I can SSH directly to the Rock 5 ITX. I however would like to use a mainline kernel instead as it generally runs better thanks to the amazing work of the community here. Running 6.12, this same functionality does not work and nothing appears in the network adapters on my laptop when plugging in. Looking on mainline-status, I see that the typ…

Anyone here playing with USB network adapters? I have a (noname) USB3 Gigabit ethernet adapter which seems capped at 250 Mbps. I know the Tinkerboard only has USB 2.0 (so a theoretical maximum of 480 Mbps), just trying to see if there are better parts out there I could try.

I haven't been able to find a step-by-step for enabling a USB OTG Network on the RockPi-S. Anyone have a link to the steps? I'm referring to the ability to connect a USB cable between the RockPi-S and a computer and be able to ssh or network to it. My usb port is in peripheral mode and I'm using Network Manager on Armbian Bookworm.
