  1. I've just installed the default desktop image, flashed directly to my emmc using etcher. Everything seems to work ok, as far as I can tell. Using the date command, it has my local time as correct, but the clock in the taskbar or whatever its called at the top of the screen is about 6 hours ahead (gmt). How do I correct this? Also, how do I verify that video acceleration is functioning or not? How do I adjust the cpu freq gov and what is the default? I looked in the boot.ini file, but it says to set the environment variables in a file named /boot/armbianEnv.txt . This file doesnt exist, so I assume I'm just to touch it and then copy over the li…

  2. Hello, I am the main developer of NextCloudPlus. NCP is a community project to make it easier to run and setup a Nextcloud instance in ARM boards, by providing configuration tools and setup wizards for typical management tasks such as backups, SSL certificates and more. We have just released the first stable version of Armbian based images with NCP for Odroid XU4 / HC1 / HC2. Check it out at the downloads section. More boards will come soon Feedback, testing and development help are very welcome Cheers,

  3. After switching from Debian Buster (installed via Petitboot) to Armbian, I have problems with NFS on Openmediavault that didn't exist the weeks before. My NFS streams abort after a few minutes, sometimes seconds (on Libreelec as well as Kodi for Windows). In OMV it shows me that the service is enabled and running, but systemctl says: nfs-server.service loaded active exited. With exportfs -rav it runs again, only to stop after a few minutes. It also works without command if I wait a few minutes. I also did a fresh install of Armbian, wich did nothing.

  4. Hi! I've been using Armbian on my Odroid XU4 for some months now. It runs LogitechMediaServer, Home-assistant, Openmediavault,... It's great. However, today, I've just ran apt-get upgrade, reboot because of an update of the kernel and then... no reboot! The blue LED of the Odroid is lit (it doesn't blink), there is nothing on the HDMI output, nothing on the network,... It seems like the odroid cannot load the kernel. Is there anything I could do to try to make it boot again ? Yeah, I know, I should have done a backup of the SD card before the update ... Thanks for your help!

Hi! recently bought a HC2 from hardkernel to migrate my nextcloud from a raspberry pi 3b. HDD is a WD red 4 TB. armbian stretch with the 4.19 kernel, downloaded from armbian.com (Armbian_5.69_Odroidxu4_Debian_stretch_next_4.19.14). My problem: after boot (sudo reboot now or sudo shutdown -r), no possibility to login, i.e. angryip scanner doesn't show the hc2, putty times out when trying to connect. All LEDs are lit or pulsate respectively. I have to physically disconnect the power supply and reboot, then I can easily login. This is probably not very healthy for the hdd (or the sd card..., although with the ro option and zram, not much is being writ…

  7. Hello, I am interested in getting an Odriod-HC2 to use as a small LXD host to run a couple services that require decent hard disk size and performance. Does the headless jessie or ubuntu 4.14 images support or already include LXD? P.S.; I tried to search for this but did not see a question asked.

  8. I am a noob on Linux (unfortunately). I run a Xu4 with armbian on it. On the Xu4 i run Domoticz, my home automation system. Something is eating my hdd space; a fixed amount is used up every hour. I set up a new system with a bigger sd but I want to get to the bottom of the issue. I do not know how I can see what the Xu4 does every hour. Perhaps a log or a backup? Perhaps my OS is doing something, or perhaps my Home automation. I do not run any script to make periodic backups or anything else like that. How can I figure it out? Thanks!

  9. All credit goes to @jshc1, I only found this info in this post and split it off here so it could more easily be found later. I am not sure if this applies only to ODROID-XU4 or other Odroids as well.

  10. Hi, I want to make adc pcm1804(simple adc clock + i2s) work with odroid, and manage it by alsa. As I understand, I should add a codec for pcm1804, driver to work with alsa, and device tree overlay. Please, tell me where can I get an example of this, or at least smth to use as a reference ?

  11. First I have to thank all maintainers for their work. I ran this server for 1.5 years before something broke. Since armbian is maintained by volunteers I want to cheer you up and thank you for your hard work. However just today my little server would die after apt-update/upgrade. I use a SATA drive together with a boot SD-card (only containing /boot). I can observe the following behavior: The system leds indicate that booting is sucessful (blue LED does blink regularly, I can detect HDD usage by observing the green LED), yet SSH login that I have been using for years now is impossible. The device is also not responsive when pinging it. From my rout…

Is it possible to transfer the entire Armbian system from SD card to HDD? ... it is known that the SD card has a lower endurance than such a HDD dist (write, read etc.) I tried to transfer the system in such a way that I first upgraded the kernel to the newest one on the SD card and then moved the system files to a partition on the HDD: mount /dev/sda1 /mnt time tar --one-file-system -cpf - / | (cd /mnt && tar -xpf -) then knowing the sda1 partition information and ID lsblk -f then knowing the sda1 partition information and ID I changed the UUID / HDD number in two locations nano /boot/boot.ini and nano /etc/fstab after rebooting…

  15. Hi, I'm running into a problem I can't solve. On my new Odroid HC1 I'm trying to set up a SFTP with chroot, but no matter what I'm trying it doesn't work on Armbian (or OMV). Tried it multiple times with a clean Armbian (Armbian_5.59_Odroidxu4_Debian_stretch_next_4.14.66 - also tried the Bionic image) install, simply added a user, added the required lines to sshd_config but each time I get a "Broken Pipe" error. On the other side when I use the minimal Ubuntu image from Hardkernel.com the chroot SFTP works without a problem. But I would like to run Armbian. Has anybody been able to create a chroot for SFTP on a Odroid HC1/2? Could it be…

Hello, I suffered a power outage and my odroid hc1 won't boot since. I also updated the kernel to 4.14.141 but the system did come back up after reboot to that kernel, it is just the power outage which seems to have caused problems. I have tried connecting the sd card and the to the laptop and ran fsck on them, no issues were found. Is there a way to debug the booting issues by say, forcing some sort of log to be writen to sd card? LED wise, red (power) LED is on, whereas green (SATA) and blue (system) seem to turn on and off repeatedly; green first, blue second, and then they both turn off at the same time. Thanks!

Hello all! I used the following armbian image to write to an SD (I'm using an old odroid HC1 btw): https://armbian.site-meganet.com/dl/odroidxu4/archive/ I used the bullseye_current image that was there. On the main download page it says that the file for Odroid XU4 is compatible with HC1, HC2 and MC1. https://www.armbian.com/odroid-xu4/ My odroid HC1 boots ok but any attempt to use the built-in ethernet port results in an instant lock-up. Only way I can "get into" the device is with a USB ethernet adapter although even just issuing a command, eg ifconfig enx001e06366b84 192.168.1.99 locks everything up - even the USB e…

  23. Updated several HC1 to Buster. Reapplied the optimized board config, as done under stretch before. Main issue: No matter what CPU governor I set, max. frequency jumps around automagically between 1.8 GHz and 2.0 GHz. I can set performance governor to the range from 1.9 to 2.0 GHz, armbian-config confirms, and when I back out of the menu it says "soc runs between 1800 and 1800 MHz using performance governor". Even at > 90% CPU boards stay below 2.0 GHz. I had to roll back and use apt hold on the 2 corresponding packages to remain on the "good" LTS kernel 5.4.253 that supports fstrim on extremely popular Crucial SSDs that support it. It's impossible to get the maintainer Joe to reply. Is there a triage way to have someone contact him and make him aware of this issue? I have zero complaints about his work, but SATA TRIM commands are a must have on SBCs that have drive bays. It dramatically increases lifetime of NAND based storage devices. Please tell me what to do. I found filing a simple bug report would be counter productive as I want to investigate why later Kernels are either compiled without …

  29. This is something I've just realized has been popping up for me for as long as I've been using armbian the past year or so with my ODROID. After a clean setup, I use armbian-config to edit the network settings (ethernet connection) to a static IP address, and everything works fine. I reboot the changes and go on my way. The problem comes after I reboot days/weeks later for kernel updates or if I lost power. The board turns on fine but refuses to show up on my network and therefore cannot SSH to the system. 30. Hi all! I am running a nextcloud server on an odroid HC2 and a 4 TB WD red HDD. So far, so good (thanks again @Igor for the quick help with the kernel downgrade!). And since I have bought the sbc recently, I do not seem to have the older firmware version with the HDD "emergency power down" bug, i.e. I haven't heard clacking sound from the HC2. Today, I set HDD spindown to 1 hour via hdparm (wd red does not support apm) because the HDD would spin down after about three minutes on its own. The HDD does not seem to apply these settings, so I installed smartmontools to check the HDD in general. Only to find that: smartctl -a /dev/sdb1 gives this…

  31. Hi, I want to try out my Odroid HC2 as an openvpn client. I don't expect great performance but I want to make sure I set it up correctly. This is why I want to ask if anyone can give any recommendations or tweaks for using it as an openvpn client. Idk much about openvpn, I know it uses openssl for de and encryption. Is there a way to use hardware de and encryption so I can speed things up and have a better download speed via openvpn? Or is hw de/encryption maybe already used by default if I just install openvpn package? Any recommendations on how to correctly set this up are appreciated.

  41. I know it is unsupported and all, but I just want to point out that running Ubuntu Focal(2020/05/03) with kernel 5.6 on Odroid MC1 has been destroying microSD cards. The board boots up fine, but after an apt-get update and a few minutes in, the Sandisk microSD card died and becomes read-only. I'm not sure if it is vendor-dependent, but I have tried out two new Sandisk microSD cards and they all turned read-only. This might be a kernel issue since on Debian Buster with kernel 5.4 or kernel 4.14 that never happened.

  43. Hello, I use an Odroid XU with Armbian and Webmin as a NAS drive. I have 6 hard drives (GPT format) connected. Under an old Linux version I was able to put the hard drives into standby with /etc/ rc.local (hdparm -S). Since I started running the system with Armbian, standby no longer works. A query via hdparm says "Standby", but the disks are still spinning. Am I fundamentally doing something wrong? Thank you!

  44. hey there, I'm using an odroid xu4 with the cloudshell 2 with 2 drives in RAID1 and Armbian with Debian 9 Stretch as my OS, built via Vagrant 2 weeks ago. The /boot partition sits on a sd-card, the OS on the harddrive. I''ve copied both via dd on both devices(boot an card, rootfs on harddrive), and after the first boot it worked flawlessly, because the boot information uses the UUID, not the /dev path. After the first boot and configuration of another user and so on, I rebooted the system to let it resize the rootfs to extend it to 2TB, which is the size of the harddrive. But after this, it seems that cryptroot cannot decrypt the …

  49. Dear all, thanks for the work of you, to provide us with the Armbian Images for our arm-based boards. BUt i've a small issue, starting the last Image for Odroid XU4. If I write the Image to a SD-Card and start the XU4, all Things run well. When I write the Image to my eMMC-Card (original Hardkernel, 64GB), the XU4 doesn't start. Normally, it's not such a big Problem, but there is a massive speedup, using eMMC with XU4. How can I get Armbian startet, installed on an eMMC? Many thanks for your Support, Burkhard

  54. Odroid XU4 with Cloudshell2 Coming from 4.14.69, upgraded to 4.19.14 The fbtft_device module for the Cloudshell-LCD now reports: fbtft_device: display not supported: 'hktft9340' And yes, the source for fbtft_device seems to no longer contain hktft9340. I will ask in the Hardkernel Forum - this is just for info here. Question: When I use armbian-config to switch to an earlier package, I get a nice list, I select one and say ok, but after reboot nothing has changed. Is there something I could be missing in order to make this switch work? Never tried it before - I was hoping this would help me temporarily.

  55. Hello, I've copied the image of the Debian Jessie Server Legacy 3.10.105 to my 32Gb eMMC with DD (previously was on Android). See attachment for the final result (gParted). Does it sound OK? There is nothing displayed when I plug the HDMI to my TV. I must have missed something... Regards!

I have attached my 800x480 hdmi display, it works, but there's a purple line at the left side of the display. ( I think it's one pixel wide) This is not the case with the odroid official image, so I guess it's a configuration issue. 70. As previously posted, I have been looking to buy another board. My research continues. But today I came across this, and wanted to ask if this was something I should jump on, or do they always sell for this price? ODROID-XU4 at Hardkernel shop shows a price of $59.00, which is crossed out and now $49.00 is shown instead. I added an 8GB EMMC module, and then went to my cart to check shipping, which was $28.00 to Eastern US! I have emailed them asking if there is any cheaper shipping option, as that is almost 50% of the price! I will report back their reply if/when I receive it.

  75. Hi! my odroid HC2 is running pretty great on armbian 5.90 for >1,5 years (24/7) now. Running a nextcloud instance, with decent perfomance, even when clocked to 600/1200 Mhz in the summer, because of one (1) crash, that I think might have been heat-related. The thing I'm wondering about: in htop, it shows only ( .LITTLE) cores for eight lines, but the cpu is a (.big.LITTLE) architecture and my other HC2 sbc, which runs armbian 20.02.7, show "(.big.LITTLE)" in htop. Perfomance in sysbench is equal on both boards, so this might mean nothing, but it still seemed strange to me. Anyone knows why htop only shows "( .LITTLE)" cores?

  80. I run armbian on an Odroid HC2. Using hdparm -t /dev/sda I get merely roughly 130MB/s on buffered disk reads. This is way below the expected value for my 2TB Crucial SSD. It is obviously not a major issue as the speed is anyway bottlenecked by the gigabit ethernet. I'm just curious, does anyone get better speeds with a similar setup? I read that poor performance can result from a misaligned partition. Checking the alignment with "align-check" of parted does report that the parition alignment is fine, so I suspect this is not the issue in my case.

  87. A known issue with the Odroid XU4, HC1, and HC2 is that it (uboot?) does not properly park the hard disk heads before/during shutdown or power cycle/off. So, the disk drive is forced to emergency hard retract the heads when power is shutdown/cycled. This is of course a violent action for the HDD and should be avoided. Use this odroid.shutdown script and install into /lib/systemd/system-shutdown/. https://wiki.odroid.com/odroid-xu4/troubleshooting/shutdown_script Recommend adding to armbian for XU4 distros.

i've been using armbian for a whole hour now i figure i've mastered this thing :) i loaded Armbian_25.5.1_Odroidxu4_bookworm_current_6.6.88_minimal.img on a sd and fired up an old xu4 according to the instruction the first thing to do is run armbian-config but it hangs because i don't have an interweb connection is there a way around that

  90. Hi, A strange error appeared with the last kernel update on an Odroid HC2. From the home in the terminal displays this error under RX totay: RX today: Error: Interface "--oneline" not found in database. The board is hosting an OMV instance under Armbian Bullseye Linux version 5.4.212-odroidxu4. Does anyone have any idea about the origin of this message which does not seem to disrupt the NAS operation. thanks konki

Hi, i have odroid HC2 with up-to-date armbian (kernel 4.something - i am not at home, i do not remember its version) I have issues with samba speed - before last minority update it was 115/110 MB/s (read/write) now it is 100/90 with cifs mount in arch linux and 60/60 in Windows 10. Cables, router - everything is untact and still the same cpu governor is on demand, samba is installed over OMV, htop shows max 10%, ram the same where can be the problem?

  92. Hello Everyone, As @tkaiser is probably aware from the hardkernel forum, I'm having issues with USB/SMART and OMV. Basically, USB resets whenever SMART data is pulled from OMV's web interface, it works fine if I manually do it in shell. Here is some info. http://sprunge.us/HdbK I was proposed to update smartmontools to 6.5, but there are library dependencies that are missing. If any of you fine folks have any ideas as to what could be causing it, I would be grateful. Thank you

  93. I used the Armbian 24.11.1 Bookworm Minimal / IOT Image from https://www.armbian.com/odroid-xu4/. When i checked the boot messages with journalctl -b, then i can see the message -> "system vulnerable" Later i can read the message "Spectre BHB: enabling loop workaround for all CPUs". Is this a fix for the first warning message, or is my system vulnerable? Dec 16 20:32:58 odroidxu4 kernel: smp: Bringing up secondary CPUs ... Hi all, I am trying to add SSH Keys to an HC1. The commands I am using are: sudo mkdir ~/.ssh sudo chmod 700 ~/.ssh sudo nano ~/.ssh/authorized_keys Then I select all the PUBLIC key from PuTTy Gen and copy/paste it on the file above, close and save the file. sudo chmod 600 ~/.ssh/authorized_keys sudo chown -R $(whoami):$(whoami) ~/.ssh/ sudo reboot I then try to SSH with PuTTy and SSH keys. Immediately I get an error saying "Server refused our key" and then it asks me for my normal password as a user. Any idea what I am doing wrong?

  95. So my sshd service won't start after a system upgrade. I have no uart access, so currently no console access. I do have access to the root drive on a usb device. I suspect systemd is having a problem starting sshd from the ssh.service unit file. But I'm not sure how to fix it. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Here are the contents of my ssh.service file. I checked that /etc/ssh/sshd_not_to_be_run doesn't exist. I'm a little confused about the runtime directory, so I made a folder in the root directory called sshd with 0755 permissions, but that doesn't seem right. Strangely I couldn't find anything in the syslog file that mentioned s…

I’m relatively new to Armbian, have been running it with XU4 for couple of months. Otherwise working very well, but there’s occational (once a month) full system hang/crash or something. This is a remote server with constant load (video surveillance) and when it happens, all connectivity is of course lost and I think it can be only resolved locally with full power cycle. I’ve not yet tried to attach HDMI monitor when it’s in the crashed state, but will do it next time. Although not very optimistic if that works at all. There are nothing obvious in the logs, or it might be that I don’t know where to look. Are there any general advice what to do, how to figure this out?…

  97. I'm new here, so please bear with me! I run an Odroid XU4 with Armbian stretch default. Recently I did a normal apt update and upgrade to kernel/dtb/headers version 5.97 (from 5.91), along with all other possible upgrades. This made the system very unstable- it had an uptime of nearly 3 months with 5.91 (all time high for the board) before the reboot, and after the upgrade it lasted a couple of hours before stalling/crashing. A downgrade to kernel/dtb/headers v 5.95 helped somewhat, but it crashed after a week or so - it may just be of those "it just happens". I went ahead and installed 5.91 and it is stable so far a few days in. The board is a bit…

  98. Is there a repository with older Armbian images available? I'm looking to install OMV6 on my Odroid HC1 (XU4), when I get Armbian Bookworm installed OMV scripts says to use Buster or Bullseye, but I cannot find an Armbian Bullseye image anywhere. I'm not super proficient with Linux (I know enough to get myself in trouble) so compiling my own image is not something I think I can do. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Edit: Nevermind...I'm an idiot...didn't notice the GIANT button for Archived Images. Apologies. Thanks, Robert

  99. I already posted the question in the Odroid forum. I decided to post it here too since it may be more inherent to the Armbian OS. I used both Armbian_23.02.3_Odroidxu4_bullseye_current_5.4.239.img from the odroidxu4 archive and Armbian-unofficial_23.11.0-trunk_Odroidxu4_bullseye_current_6.1.63 generated from the Armbian build script. (Base CLI Image). After flashing the former image and then installing OMV6, this is the output that OMV6 gives me when installing the openmediavault-wireguard plugin: Spoiler Reading package lists... Building dependency tree... Reading state information... The following additional packages will be in…

  100. Started by James Kingdon,

After a major failure of my file server I bought a pair of seagate desktop USB3 drives to use for temporary storage while I sort out the mess. I plugged them into an XU4 and started transferring several 100GBs of data only to have it lock up solid. dmesg indicates a number of uas restarts, the last of which doesn't complete. I had the same thing on another SBC (one of the orange PIs I think, although I can't remember which model) and I also found references to the same problem on x86 boxes, so I think the problem is fairly generic. Apparently it can be worked around by adding a conf file to to /etc/modprobe.d, but I haven't got that to work yet (time has been …
