  1. Hello, good morning from Spain. My sincere congratulations to the Kobol and Helios64 team. A really good and well designed product. I have a question about the compatibility of a hard drive with the Helios64 NAS. My hard drive is ---> https://www.senetic.es/product/0F38459 <--- ( Wd Ultrastar 18TB) With a capacity of 18TB, my question is: Is that hard drive (18TB) compatible with the Nas Helios64? I think that in the Nas Helios64 technical description, it only accepts a maximum capacity of 16 Tb hard drives Thank you very much for the information and help.

  2. I literally registered to post this complaint here. How STUPID it is to have a M.2 SATA SHARED WITH HDD1!! IT DEFEATS THE WHOLE PURPOSE OF THIS ENCLOSURE. PERIOD!!!! My mistake was that I did not know what it meant that M.2 was SHARED before I purchased this enclosure and now, I have a need to expand beyond the measly 16GB of your eMMC and I found out THE PAINFUL WAY that IT IS NOT POSSIBLE because of the shared SATA port. IT"S BEYOND FRUSTRATION. YOU CANNOT EVEN IMAGINE HOW STUPID THIS DECISION OF YOURS IS. IT JUST LITERALLY DOWNGRADED YOUR NAS FROM AN EXCELLENT ENCLOSURE TO AN OVERPRICED JUNK THAT I HAD TO WAIT FOR FOR MORE THAN 6 …

  4. I am downloading three different builds from 6.12 for orange pi 5. I have an orange pi 5 pro but since there is not dtb entry in 6.12 for that sbc in the Armbian 25.8.1 6.12.28 dtb file I used the orange pi 5b.dtb entry which works with the Armbian 25.8.1 6.1.115 images. The result is that the initramfs cant find a root disk - and when checking for drives in initramfs - there are none ls /dev/disks/by-uuid. So the initramfs file isn't running correctly as its not finding drives. I went back and loaded Armbian_24.8.1_Rock-5c-trixid_current_6.12.42_minimal.image and that boots up to root login. However if I change the card type to orangepi-5b. I cann…

  5. Started by e954,

Is there a specific reason why orangepi cm5 isn't supported? Or is it simply because nobody has contributed? Because I am willing to add support for it if there aren't any serious issues when building armbian for this board. The webpage for the board is currently empty. I see two issues when using Armbian on orangepi cm5: 1. The ethernet and the fan won't work. There is a device tree published by Laurent Pinchart that may fix this. 2. armbian-install bricks the board. The only way to recover the device is by enabling maskrom and using rkdeveloptool to flash a new image. Other than these Armbian seems to work fine on orangepi cm5. …

  6. Hi, community. I have set up this device from which I'm writing this, installed Armbian from SD card, by sweeping out original FriendlyElec images from the FriendlyElec's partition, so I wiped off the Android and Ubuntu, and copied on it the Armbian image, which appeared with the title "RAW". Booted and installed fine. It works. From armbian-config I managed to boot from an USB Toshiba 1Tb disk. To this part, I have a little but efficient linuxPC, ¡¡¡THANK YOU!!!. I'm trying to compile binaries of STM32, or Arduino devices, comment this to tell details only. Every 5 to 8 bootups, it didn't recognize the USB drive, and dumps a series of Hex data, divided in bunches. S…

  7. Hi everybody! I have been working for days to ensure that the MIPI-DSI output works with the Raspberry PI compatible display panel (Product OSOYOO which has a Toshiba TC358762 DSI/DP bridge chip and a I2C backlight controller as Focal FT5406). The following overlay works perfectly with the Radxa kernel 4.4.153 and unfortunately not with the Armbian kernel: Linux rockpi-4c 5.8.13-rockchip64. So far so good. Now if you look at the DTS source files of the two kernels, they have a similar structure but are very different in content. I wonder why you now get the idea to reinvent the wheel. The Radxa kernel contains everything that is needed. What is particularly ann…

  8. Hi!, I am playing around with customizing my boot script (to install later my custom distro), and I am fighting with the Recovery. I took a long time to understand I have to press the recovery button during a "long time", then release it very quickly to get the UMS mode and not falling into the Maskrom mode. Indeed, when U-Boot detects the recovery button keypress, it proposes UMS, then very shortly after the Maskrom mode. Is it possible to configure U-Boot to wait longer on the UMS mode, let's say 5 seconds, and after that delay switch to Maskrom mode as latest failover? For info: I have Armbian running on EMMC, and I…

  11. Is it possible to activate PCIe ASPM L1 substates with the NanoPi R6C / RK3588s Soc in general? > lspci -vvv | grep ASPM LnkCtl: ASPM L1 Enabled; RCB 64 bytes, Disabled- CommClk+ L1SubCap: PCI-PM_L1.2+ PCI-PM_L1.1+ ASPM_L1.2+ ASPM_L1.1+ L1_PM_Substates+ L1SubCtl1: PCI-PM_L1.2- PCI-PM_L1.1- ASPM_L1.2- ASPM_L1.1- My M.2 NVMe SSD supports all L1 substates but setting pcie_aspm.policy to "powersupersave" has no effect. Max is "powersave" to activate ASPM L1 and that works. Is this a limitation of the SoC or just not implemented in the armbian driver / kernel?

  12. I had one OPi5 setup and working properly with one of my TVs. I was running Kodi and using the remote from my TV to control Kodi using HDMI-CEC. I went to setup a second one on another TV but this time the TV remote did not work properly. Through elimination I came to determine the HDMI cable was the issue. I ordered another HDMI cable that had the Ferrite at each side of the cable. Now it worked properly. Thought this might be useful for others. This is the cable I ordered: https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B003PDHJ6M Conclusion: In order to make HDMI-CEC work properly, make sure the HDMI cable is of sufficient quality. I think ones with the Ferrite may be b…

I'm curious to experiment with LLMs on an RK3566 TV Box. I managed to build a working Debian disto for it, but wasn't able to locate any NPU support in the kernel configuration. Anyone know how to build such a kernel for the RK3566, with support for the inbuilt NPU, or preferably, how to add build a NPU kernel module that can be linked-in? Any hints, suggestion or links greatly appreciated. GBEM 👽

  14. Hi all, I am unable to login to OMV on my Helios64. A bit of sleuthing indicates that this is because the / fs is at 100% capacity. At first, I figured I'll just transfer the system install from the 8GB SD Card I started with to the 16GB internal eMMC. Turns out past unfnknblvbl already did that, and now I need to go the other way. The documentation on the old Kobol site isn't entirely accurate about how to do this. My SDCard is /dev/mmcblk1 and even though it's formatted ext4, it simply doesn't show in armbian-config. In fact, the only device that shows in the Install menu is /dev/md127, which is the RAID array itself. I'd rather not be booting f…

The strangest thing happened today. I switched of my rok64 rev.2 and connected to my PC to move the files of my USB HDD. My plan was to change the disk format from NTFS to EXT4. Then when i plugged it back in the rock64 wouldn't boot properly. Turns out my USB 3 port isn't working anymore with the USB HDD or any other USB drive. The light comes on for my SSD but fdisk -l doesn't see it. Could one of the firmware updates broken it? UPDATE... I downloaded the latest Ayufun arm64 bionic build and booted from this. My USB 3 HDD was picked up fine. I've gone back to the new Armbian Bionic build and it doesn't wo…

My NAS do very little overnight so my NAS4 shuts down in the evening and shortly afterwards a physical time switch cuts the power - reinstating power in the morning at which time the NAS4 automatically reboots. I want to do the same with the NAS64 - but even though I've read this (https://wiki.kobol.io/helios64/auto_poweron/) I'm not sure how to go about it. I can't understand if it only works if the UPS has died, or if I have to run a script before shutdown or both. Could you please clarify? Thx ... Nick

The USB3 port is working with the FriendlyELEC image (rk3588-sd-debian-bookworm-core-6.1-arm64-20241112.img.gz), so maybe there is a small problem with a kernel module or the device tree. If someone can guide me to a starting point for investigation, I can do some debugging. I have little…

  52. Hi, I'm trying to fully boot an Orange Pi 4 from a USB flash drive from Uboot's prompt before it actually loads the kernel from the SD card (The SD card already has a working image of Armbian installed, that's where the board pulled Uboot from and is booting from it). The SD card currently has Armbian_23.5.1_Orangepi4_jammy_current_6.1.30_gnome_desktop installed on it. The reason why I'm trying to boot the board from USB is that I want to try an image with Orange Pi 4's legacy kernel to be able to take advantage of its vendor Mali blob for performance comparison against the current open source Panfrost driver in mainline kernel. And that I don't ha…

So I extracted firmware from official friendly desktop image and unzip to /lib/firmware/rkwifi/ and wifi works. I'm a newbie and hope this could be fixed properly soon. For those new to linux like me, download the attachment, extract everything to /lib/firmware/rkwifi/, reboot and wifi should be there. ap6212.zip

Hi guys, I am using Orange Pi 4 (RK3399) and put in a SD card Armbian buster (and other time bionic) from the official web site but nothing happens. I have tried so many times using dd command from my debian OS and windows tools to write image on SD card but nothing again. When I start the board with Android the SD card could be read by android, but when I reboot just the red led shines and the screen of monitor doesn't show nothing. I would like some help because I would use my board in my project of postgraduate. Nowadays I am so disappointed with this problem. Best regards.

  58. Hello everyone. I can't flash Armbian to EMMC on the OrangePi 5B board. I made an SD card, booted, ran armbian-install, selected Boot from EMMC/System on EMMC, the recording process was successful, but after that the board stops booting at all. When I boot from the SD card again, I see that EMMC is not a device in the system. There is no main mmcblk0, no mmcblk0boot0, no mmcblk0boot1. I was able to get EMMC back only after re-flashing the standard Android firmware using RKDevTool via maskrom. When I flash Android to EMMC and then boot from the SD card with Armbian, /dev/mmcblk0, /dev/mmcblk0boot0 and /dev/mmcblk0boot1 are back in place. Accordingly…

Hi all, first off, I love my NanoPiM4V2 boards, the big drawback with them for me is backing them up, if you are running them from an eMMC and you have the board in a case, you have to remove the cover of the case, if you have a hat ( which I do ) you also have to remove that , then you can remove the eMMC module and clone or do whatever with it. What would be good for me, is, if I could temporarily boot from an sdcard , unmount the eMMC, and clone it for backup purposes. Before I ruin anything I thought I'd ask the experts. Is this doable ?

I have moved the drive in port 1 to port 4, rebooted and the SSD drive shows up. Also, a HDD in port 1 does not show up: no blue Light on the front panel and not visible in "fdisk -l" . Hi all, Something to share for those who use the USB-C serial console from another Linux host. Install and use 'tio' to connect to the serial console instead of minicom. This supports both 1500k baud and also can be easily used inside GNU screen (minicom gets a meta key conflict per default; CTRL-A is default meta key for both GNU screen and minicom). Minicom resulted in regular errors posted in syslog by the ftdi_sio kernel module. Did not run any strace to find out what syscall is causing it, but in short, tio appears to not treat the tty as a modem: no errors are popping up in syslog. Hopefully the serial consoles will remain up now. One caveat: I did not fin…

  93. Good news. Full-fledged working images (20210827) of ArmbianTV for P2 and M2 are ready. All the equipment works in them and you can start and configure the system via an HDMI monitor and a keyboard/mouse. 95. I bought a NanoPC-T4 development board designed by friendlyelec and installed the Armbian operating system. But the heat generated by the Rk3399 main control chip is too high. I bought an official PWM fan. According to the official wiki, the fan can work normally. However, under the same configuration under Armbian, the fan can’t work normally, so I What work needs to be done? Thanks.

  96. It's just plain Orange Pi 3B board with default factory config booted from SD card. As you can see most apps can't be started, they just fail silently. If started from terminal they log some exceptions. OS is completely unusable. Hardware is functional and it works well with the default Orange Pi images. Here is the demo video:

  97. Luks encrypted devices need this cipher: aes-xts-plain64 I get these error messages: > Check that kernel supports aes-xts-plain64 cipher > device-mapper: table: 254:0: crypt: Error allocating crypto tfm It seems that at least the following modules are needed: xts, aes-x86_64 They are misising in all armbian debian kernals for rockchip. Could you please add them?

Hi What is the appropriate method to upgrade to a new release (20.11) without reimaging the SD card? I have not attempted this before as I have mainly used Ubuntu which provides sudo do-release-upgrade Note I am not using a VM or Docker. Can I upgrade the kernel using the downloaded Helios64 image? sudo apt install ./linux-image-<flavour> Is there a way to do it using armbian-config (like there is for raspi-config) Or do I need to download the armbian source and then compile ./compile.sh

In distributions that include 4.x series kernels, pcie is detected and the built-in broadcom wireless chip is functional with the wl driver. I would like to move to a 5.x series kernel, but I noticed that pcie is not detected at all, and though wifi is detected with the brcmfmac driver, it will not function to scan or connect to anything. I grabbed the latest image from this week (have tried many previous, including building my own armbian image) but no luck. Has anyone gotten these items to work with a 5 series kernel?
