I am trying to build armbian image via WSL 2, as I have done hundreds of times in the past. So those of us working on getting Retro Pie working on the Tinkerboard have run into a road block. Perhaps someone here might have a clue on this? Current using these instructions to build Retro Pie using the legacy Armbian Debian (4.4) https://github.com/Tinkerpie/Armbian-Setup And for audio over HDMI you need to currently make a change in /usr/share/alsa/alsa.conf setting defaults.pcm.card to 1 When this script linked down below: https://github.com/Rydra/bgm-for-es The BGM script takes over all audio so for instance the audio in games does not work or any other audio such as audio from the video sna…

Hello, yesterday i got a powerloss , and my Asus tinkerboard got shutdown. i think i had some updates installed but not yet rebooted the Tinkerboard never restarted again. i first suspected a crashed Emmc disk but i did the following tests and got to the conclusion that Armbian for Tinkerboard is currently broken - restored a past complete image to either SD or Emmc : boots ok. - shutdown then unplug/replug power : OK - update with apt-get update + apt-get upgrade => reboot OK, but shutdown, and then never restart, bricked. shutdown down either with desktop or command line tested also with a second Tinkerbo…

I'm really struggling to get chromium to work correctly with hardware acceleration. 1) I have custom kernel image from master branch last week. Which maybe could cause some issues? 2) I added the two repos (panfork and mesa) sudo add-apt-repository ppa:liujianfeng1994/panfork-mesa sudo add-apt-repository ppa:liujianfeng1994/rockchip-multimedia 3) I've ran all the updates 4) I installed ubuntu desktop to enable Wayland which is working nicely 5) I've added the HDMI audio output 6) My default chromium configuration does already have the egl enabled. When I start Chromium, I get the following errors 39610:39643:0125/091804.694008:ERR…

Hi there Board, I have bought my Tinkerboard after some good research with my fellow techies at Red Hat and reading thoroughly that 19+pages Tinkerboard Thread. After crafting a super lean/mean kernel (kconfig at https://gist.github.com/rfrht/5f0fa113f12fbacf832e57ff4967785a ), I got a stable and lightweight kernel configuration. Things got a lot funnier when doing some compatibility tests with specific Asterisk versions, I was able to install and run cleanly a Raspi .DEB pkg. And that got me thinking. I have now JUST replaced the Raspberry Pi with the Tinkerboard. And guess what: It was a _inplace_ upgrade! Using the same u…

https://justpaste.it/5jszu I tried with I2C connected and disconnected between screen and tinkerboard. No change. (See below, looks like i2c-3/3-0045/tinker_mcu_bl is missing ). I checked around that area and tinker_mcu_bl is missing, but folder 3-0045 exists with lots of files in there. (bottom of the post) From dmesg I also see that i2c had a failure (ret = -6). (see next paste) Looking forward I see that -6 is no device found on i2c bus (assuming that's correct?). Does anyone know if brightness control works? Currently running 24.8.3 and have copied it to the eMMC, working fine on both the µSD image and eMMC. (On the Rock-Pi-S, if you have a bootable image on the µSD card, it boots from that. Is it possible to load the A72 cortex with more computation work compared to A53 cortex? Specially during multithreading can i generate more cores on A72 cortex as it is significantly faster? While compiling there is a flag to select the appropriate cortex (-mtune=cortex-a72.cortex-a53) but it only generates appropriate cortex code. Any way to control these cortex based on the application?

Hi! On my RockPro64, I usually run Armbian with Ayufan's 5.1 kernel (it runs very well and after manually compiling the dtb file most of the error messages at startup are gone). I've tried a few days ago to run Armbian's dev kernel (5.0), and both the sdcard and my usb3 attached ssd could not be detected. The network was also missing. I have pasted the output of armbianmonitor -U here. Mathias

Hello all, First of all, thanks for the Armbian project, love it so far, but had a slight problem with a kernel upgrade. To be honest, I forgot how I installed Armbian since it was a while ago, but I've been using this for a year or so. I saw that unattended-upgrades installed a new kernel and I should reboot for this change. I was a bit apprehensive, but went ahead and rebooted. The NanoPI R4S didn't come back up. I attached a serial console to debug. The console showed that the initramfs was read successfully from the SD card, but then tried to mount to root filesystem by UUID and failed (it kept saying it tried to run /boot/local-block and event…

Hello, I'm enabling g_ether driver on tinker board. The driver works and I'm able to emulate an Ethernet adapter on my PC when I connect it to the tinker micro USB port. This only works if the micro USB connection exists before powering ON the board. If I connect it while the device is already running nothing happens. This behavior may be related to the following kernel path: https://patchwork.kernel.org/patch/10535905/ Is there any parameter I can add to avoid the USB from going to hibernate state? Or would it be possible to add the mentioned patch to armbian build tool? Thanks!

I want to share some information about an issue that I see on my OPi5+. Since I got it I am messing around with it and everything works great so far with the edge 6.7 kernel. One thing I noticed though was, that right after installation with nothing connected and when idle, there was one kernel process that was constantly consuming around 10% CPU time and the load stays at 1. The process was irq/136-hym8563. The number varies of course after each boot. Kernel driver is rtc_hym8563. Since it is build into the kernel I was not able to unload it as a first test. Side node, the issue is not seen on the Rock5b, so it seems OPi5+ hardware specific. Even if bot…

Been using 24.11.1 Bookworm for a while, but yesterday did an apt update && apt upgrade, only to find that the resulting image would no longer boot. No "activity" light at all on the front on reboot. I've got a ROCK 5B+ with two NVMe drives installed, and for reasons I've not been able to track down, I'm noticing that the `-edge` releases (Kernel 6.14.6) are not able to display more than one of the NVMe drives at once. I've checked various physical configurations (i.e., slot one, slot two, both slots), and only one slot is presented (i.e., output from `lspci` or `lsblk`) – but it doesn't seem to matter whether its slot one or two. If I use a `-vendor` images (6.1.115), I see both devices and can use them without problems. I'd love to be able to provide more information or help debug, but I'm not quite sure where to start here! …

I did a bit of reading - to prevent ubuntu packages to update the rockchip optimized packages, you need to pin the packages. There is a simple way to do that. 1. Create a file called rockchip-multimedia-ppu in /etc/apt/preferences.d with Package: * Pin: release o=LP-PPA-liujianfeng1994-rockchip-multimedia Pin-Priority: 600 2. Create a file called panfork-mesa-ppu in /etc/apt/preferences.d with Package: * Pin: release o=LP-PPA-liujianfeng1994-liujianfeng1994-panfork-mesa Pin-Priority: 600 You can verify that the apt configuration is working correctly with sudo apt policy chromium-browser which should return chrom…

I'm looking to try an OPi5 for GPGPU. After seeing trunk recently added the patches needed to use the "gofaster" option for panfork, and having seen reports of glmark2 scores of 4000 and 5000 while never coming close to that myself, I decided to pull together the various bits of info out there and just try all of the options. A number of things done below are often described vaguely -- hopefully it's helpful here to lay out a concrete set of steps to follow and what to expect. There are two options for accelerated video: panfork and ARM's closed source "blob" driver. With either option, it sounds like you should switch from X11 to Wayland. If you are looking a…

Hello, I am running Armbian 23.05 "minimal" (with the provided kernel 5.10.110) on my OrangePI 5 4GB. Upgraded all packets to latest. When trying to run GeekBench 5.5.1 ARM Preview, it reboots when approaching the end of multicore tests, with "performance" governor and default speed range (0.4 - 2.4 GHz for A76). Same goes if I drop the max clock speed to 2.2 for A76. After dropping to 2.0 GHz max, it runs fine; but this hurts performances quite a bit. I tried various power sources, including a bench PSU which can reliably supply up to 30A (but I only see a few spikes over 2A). The board has a large heatsink installed wit…

I am trying to compile a new kernel in order to support some satellite receiver tuner (from TBS). I did that successfully (In February 2023) on Orange Pi 5 with Linux kernel 5.10.110, but I am struggling doing it with Orange PI 5 Plus with Linux 5.10.160 (jammy). Basically I would like to turn as Modules lots of CONFIG_VIDEOBUF2_*, in order to replace the modules with the ones compiled separately (that I know are working fine with my TBS USD card). These are my issues: - I do not manage to set separately those CONFIG_VIDEOBUF2_* through the menu config. - Thus I tried to set the whole "multimedia support" as a module and go…

HI!! I need help. What is the correct way to install armbian? I have an odroid m1, with a nvme 2 TB. I installed armbian and also stored my files on the same disk. Hello everyone, This is my 1st post on the forum. My intention with this post is not to report a specific issue that I am running into, but more because I would like to collect info and suggestions from people with more experience than myself. I've recently received an Orange Pi 5 Plus and have spent a bit of time exploring operating systems suitable for this system and have settled on the Armbian solution. I'm a HW designer by trade, and have done some SW work, but I do not consider myself proficient in SW at all. I find my way around things, but that's about as far as it goes.... For the my planned use of the OPi5+, I will need eMMC b…

Anyone have an issue where on a fresh install with apt update and upgrade I create a hotspot then have openvpn connect on boot. It works fine as a hotspot with 200mbps up and down but when the traffic is routes through a vpn by connecting openvpn the board will crash/become unresponsive if the upload is used heavily. Works great until I run a speedtest and on the upload the board will crash. Normal use is fine even pegging download causes no issue. Le potato s905x works amazing in this regard and never crashes period. Is this a known bug?

In our testing, when attempting to use various Wi-Fi mini-PCIe/M.2 adapters from Intel and Realtek, we've encountered problem: oftentimes OS will not see PCIe device with error "PCIe link training gen1 timeout". Some days it happens only in 1/10 boots, other days it can stop working completely. After long debugging we've found that 24-pin FPC cable that connects Orangepi and official connector board (PCIE-SOCKET-OPI4-4B) does not pass PERST signal from Orangepi. Instead, it is high by default and the only way to temporarily set it to low is by pressing physical button on connector board. As far as I understand, PERST signal basically tells the connected de…

I have my kernel locked to 6.1.75 but still after 25.8.2 update, I lost all USB devices on both of my Orange PI 5. Only the USB3 port is working. The only way I've been able to get access to the USB is by switching to the latest `current` kernel... Any clues on what is going on? Firmware or kernel upgrades are not doing anything... where can the issue be???? I tried downgrading to many different versions but beside the current branch, USB is gone. Thanks

Hello, After 5 years of loyal service, my Helios64 SBC just died on me last night. Would a Radxa Rock5 ITX+ and a M.2 to Hexa SATA Adapter could be a good drop in replacement to reuse the case? Both are Mini-ITX so it would fit. I know I would lose the front panel lights and power/reset button, and I would need to cut the back panel to fit the I/O shield but these are minor problems. What I am more concerned with, is if it is at all possible to power the 5 HDD from the radxa board (as the Helios 64 board didi). Helios engineers had made it possible to do it with minimum power, mainly by starting up the drives sequentially. …

I just recently bought a sim5320a GSM/GPS cape for my Tinkerboard S and it requires the use of ttyS3; however, by default Armbian uses this port for console... so I'm unable to use it w/ the cape. What do I need to do to disable the console on this port to free it up? EDIT: Nvm... after reading more, this isn't my issue (although I did find the answer above, which is to edit the /boot/armbianEnv.txt file). It's (the GSM cape) connected to the GPIO, and I need to enable the UART serial on here. Posted below is the product I'm using, and the last picture shows the GPIO PIN mappings that it uses. https://vietnamese.alibaba.com/product-detail/sim5320a-5-9v-2a-3g-gsm-g…

So I have armbian installed on a tinkerboard and have had absolutely no issues with it until I bought a new Samsung 7000 series TV (2019). For some reason this TV does not recognize the signal coming from the tinkerboard. For the life of me I cannot figure out how to get this to work. I notice a few references online about being able to force a resolution but nothing related to the rockchip boards. Is there an equivalent way to force a display resolution as in this article? https://docs.armbian.com/Hardware_Allwinner/#how-to-reconfigure-video-output I'm running 4.19.21-rockchip 5.76 I've also tried kernel 5.4.28 as well an…

I was able to install an ebay 18650 UPS on my ROC-RK3328-CC, and found out in the instructions that it also has an RTC Module. I would like to utilize that feature, if possible, but I am not entirely sure how to go about it. I have used the armbian-config to enable i2c7, and... that's pretty much as far as I got. Viewing the instructions under "How to setup and check the RTC module:" https://wiki.52pi.com/index.php/UPS_(With_RTC_%26_Coulometer)_For_Raspberry_Pi_SKU:_EP-0118 The instructions call to use modprobe i2c-bcm2835 however, it doesn't appear that my copy of Armbian 20.08.7 Buster has this driver. Is there another way to setup an…

Hi, New build, Armbian_21.05.0-trunk_Tinkerboard_focal_current_5.10.22_xfce_desktop.img. The build finished ok and the image after flashing is working just fine, but.. unfortunately there is no /boot/dtb/overlay folder and of course none and its .dtbo entries are found anywere. Am I missing something ? Is the latest build system broken for Tinkerboard ? Do I need to specify something during the build process menu ? /PS Just checked with the Armbian ready-made provided image for Tinkerboard, the Armbian_21.02.1_Tinkerboard_focal_current_5.10.12_desktop.img.xz and Armbian_21.02.3_Tinkerboard_…

After enabling the rk3588-hdmirx overlay in armbian-config device tree overlays, whenever I boot, I am greeted with multiple hdmirx (fdee0000.hdmirx-controller: hdmirx_wait_lock_and_get_timing HDMI pull out, return!) errors on boot. On a previous install, the hdmirx errors would block the entire boot process and it would just hang forever. I do not know the exact cause, but the issues seemed to arise after I ran this command to disable the X Display Server "systemctl set-default multi-user.target". The errors could only be resolved if I plugged in the sd card into another device and removed rk3588-hdmirx from overlays in /boot/armbianEnv.txt . …

Hi, I wanted to give my Odroid M1 new life by installing a fresh Armbian 25.5.1. Previously it was running on an old Odroid Ubuntu Image. After starting from SD I have no ethernet connection. What could be the cause and how do I get a working ethernet connection? Thanks Malz

Hi, I'm someone who's suffering with an unreliable pcie nvme upon booting. Apparently there was a patch for this issue. I am experiencing an issue with my Rock Pi S. When using SPI1, I am not observing any CLK output signal on pin GPIO3_B3, which I have verified with an oscilloscope. Other signals such as MOSI, MISO, and CS are functioning correctly. I have found that this issue does not occur in the older kernel 4.4.143-65-rockchip-g58431d38f8f3. However, when using the latest Armbian 25.2.2 Bookworm Minimal / IOT image, this problem arises. Could someone please assist me in resolving this problem?

Have an incident where I tried installing a newer kernel in an nvme working setup and the device wont post. My original installation flash card is working but is giving me problems. So I got 2 others and attempted to boot new version of the image and Im getting no post. I was able to solve my original problem by installing a legacy version in flash and copying /boot over to nvme. I also attempted rebuilding the mme partitions with no success. But it seems that there is something not working right with kernel 6.7.

Dear Armbian Community, I hope this message finds you well. I am encountering an issue with PWM on my Orange PI 5 Plus running Armbian. Despite my attempts, I am unable to utilize PWM via GPIO pins. See https://forum.pine64.org/showthread.php?tid=8685 Using his SPI flash image, and then using armbian-config flash from SPi/system on NVME option worked. It boots much faster, and two or three weeks agoTobias Schramms atf patch made into mainline atf so the device no longer hangs on a soft reboot. I have booted from sd, emmc and the NVME with this u-boot. I haven't tried usb3 or usb2.

So I was messing around with my new OrangePi-5+ and installed the EDK2 UEFI firmware for Rockchip RK3588 platforms onto the SPI flash (/dev/mtdblock0). After which I tried all sorts of images and kernels with varying success, only the 5.10.160-legacy-rk3588 kernel would really have a working display. Until I tried a generic UEFI arm64 image (Jammy-CLI on a USB stick) which gave a working display, albeit at 1080p max. (my monitor is 4K) with no acceleration (after the extra steps), and installed the Mate desktop (just my preference). The big caveat is that it does not recognize the SD-card, EMMC or SPI-flash, just regular drives (e.g. sda/nvme0n1 etc) and I'm…

I installed U-Boot in the Orange Pi 5's SPI memory, connected via UART via the CH340G adapter (the power switch is lost). The speed is 1500,000 baud, 8n1. Connected TX-RX, RX-TX, GND-GND. After starting the board, I see the logs, but I can't enter anything at all. When I change the power supply, the input works, but it enters incomprehensible characters instead of the usual ones. When installing the EDK2-RK3588, there was no such problem on the same power supply and adapter. How can I fix the UART input?

The base device tree for the Renegade (roc-rk3328-cc) already includes a PWM2 device but armbian does not include the .dtbo to enable it. Thus, it is also unavailable through armbian-config. The Libre builds of Debian support it, but not armbian. I have copied the overlay from the Libre build of Debian for Renegade and it applies correctly on after I manually add it to the overlay directory: /boot/dtb-6.12.32-current-rockchip64/rockchip/overlay/rockchip-rk3328-pwm2.dtbo Note that as of today armbian-config is having a general issue with loading overlays via armbianEnv.txt. This can be bypassed by avoiding using armbian-config for overlays and …

Note: This is for Odroid m1s, not Odroid m1 - there just isn't a forum for the m1s (yet?) When I tried to start the board with the community image for the Odroid m1s on a SD card, it wouldn't boot. The connected screen (HDMI) would stay black and the blue heartbeat LED would stay on permanently. I tried building and flashing u-boot but that didn't help me. Here's what DID work: (Note: it worked for me. I can't guarantee that this fixes it for everyone, use at your own risk) I mounted the SD card on a Linux desktop and created backups of the boot scripts (just to be safe) sudo cp <mount_path>/armbi_root…

It would be nice to be able to use hardware crypto for VPNs. The rockchip's hardware crypto acceleration has apparently been supported since Kernel 4.5. I noticed that the CONFIG_CRYPTO_DEV_ROCKCHIP option hadn't been compiled into the standard Armbian builds, so I built a custom kernel. Having the rk_crypto module loaded gives me additional ciphers in /proc/crypto as expected. Without the module loaded (either blacklisted with my build, or with the normal Armbian kernel), my tunnel (IKEv2/IPSEC w Strongswan) works fine. But with the module installed, no traffic passes. Sometimes I see kernel errors in syslog. A couple of tim…

I am trying to build the kernel with the standards scripts, but directly on my orange pi 5. The build is stopping at some point because of a Warning issued by the compiler (this is the default behaviour for the compiler who does not tolerate any warning by default). (Some functions in the C code are depreciated, thus a warning is issue) How can I set the CFLAGS so that the kernel build takes it into account during compilation? Thanks.

Hello! First time poster, long time admirer. I've been unable to get ANY of the 6.10.x images to boot off SD card (Sandisk Extreme) for the Orange Pi 5 Plus. Specific images which are not working for me: Armbian_24.8.0-trunk.472_Orangepi5-plus_noble_edge_6.10.2_gnome-kisak_desktop.img.xz Armbian_24.5.5_Orangepi5-plus_noble_edge_6.10.1_gnome-kisak_desktop.img.xz Armbian_24.8.0-trunk.472_Orangepi5-plus_trixie_edge_6.10.2_minimal.img.xz Has anybody else had better luck?

I am considering to buy a RK3399 dev board and use USB 3.0 peripheral mode to transfer data to/from another host PC. It may be used as USB CDC/Eth or RNDIS device, or a MTP device. We hope the transfer rate could be well over 1Gbps, the higher, the better. So has anybody ever benchmarked RK3399 USB in peripheral mode? Such as the highest iperf transfer rate in CDC/Eth or RNDIS mode?

Hi, I am using rockpro64 "https://www.pine64.org/?product=rockpro64-4gb-single-board-computer" that uses Rockchip RK3399 Hexa-Core (dual ARM Cortex A72 and quad ARM Cortex A53) 64-Bit Processor. My simple application is to have a UART communication. When i run serial write with 1500000 Baudrate, then it works fine. But if i lower the baudrate such as 115200, then it throws garbage value. So can i get some suggestions here? Thanks.
