hi, im trying to make my radxa 4d in to a open media vault server, iv down loaded the file from armbian's web side but it wont boot, pluging it in to one of my raspberry pi's and useing gparted, i can only see one partision for it and can view it, dose this need a boot loader? iv also tryed downloading Debian 14 (Forky) from the armbian web site and got that to boot, but the script from armbian-config is broken ( missing stuff like php) and iv tryed the script from open media vault but that errors with eth0 missing. do i need to install a boot loader on the armbian open media vault image ?

I have completed a build for the turing-rk1 SBC with an aim toward getting a functioning graphical console, and possibly installing desktop packages later. I built an image without issue that picked up kernel 6.17.2. git commit: 09160da3b9c1231cf20837e8c857f7e605130449 main branch Command used: ./compile.sh RELEASE=trixie CARD=turing-rk1 BRANCH=edge Image created: Armbian-unofficial_25.11.0-trunk_Turing-rk1_trixie_edge_6.17.2.img When booted, I get an error from dmesg about VOP drivers and HDMI video does not turn on. Is this normal for this board or am I doing something wrong? [ 0.965616] rckchip-drm display-subsystem: [drm:rockchip_d…

I've been following this thread: https://forum.openwrt.org/t/nanopi-r6s-linux-6-3-arm-soc-updates/153072/14 downloaded the latest version. Decided to do some experimenting and found out that they use u-boot 2023.04. And after some experimenting I found out that it works with Armbian when I flash it to the internal storage. U-Boot 2017.09-armbian (Apr 25 2023 - 04:20:41 +0000) U-Boot SPL 2023.04-OpenWrt-r0-e283eb2 (Jun 12 2023 - 00:36:27 +0000) Whats the reason the armbian u-boot is so far behind ? Not at the time of generation, but Armbian is stuck on reboot, not going to heartbeat led nor getting IP, and does nothing. I have no idea how it is related and what I should do to: - restore boot; - apply a key without ruining the installation. Hi Does anyone have a working U-boot or CLI image with serial console disabled for Rock Pi 4b or Rock 4SE? Been struggling for a week to build my own with ./compile.sh and user patch but no success, U-boot hangs at user input prompt because gps sends data from power on. Have tried all suggestions on the forum.

Hi all, I have an Armbian installed on Orange PI 4B. I am trying to connect a flight controller to Orange PI 4B by using UART port. This board has a 40 pin header. I went to armbian-config, and enabled the UART1 and UART 4 which are available from armbian-config. I plug the UART port (to Pin 8 and pin 10) on the 40 pin header. Is that port UART 4? I am not sure. It does not work. I tried the debug port, but the Orange PI does not start up if something is plugged in to the debug UART port. The PIN layout https://wiki.adopisoft.com/doku.php?id=4.0.0:gpio_numbering The layout of the board is…

Hi, I'm currently woking on transmitting image data by UART connection with the NanoPi M4, but I couldn't send data from '/dev/ttyS4', which is offered as for UART connection. I used pyserial in python to use UART but no change has been detected the pin #19 by the oscilloscope. Do I have to enable the UART somehow? If I can use UART with NanoPi M4, I would say this machine is so fantastic.

I see that there is a lot of work ongoing on improving the UEFI boot support for Rock 5B and this is quite exciting. In my view this seem to be the ideal route for future SBC boards. However, I am yet to try it so I am still a novice in the area. How do you guys look at the future of UEFI vs U-boot for Linux on SBC’c in general and on the Rock 5B in particular? Will the UEFI version be as capable as a u-boot version or do you see limitations?

First time user here. I got a Rock64 board and flashed Armbian_20.08.1_Rock64_focal_current_5.8.6_desktop.img using Etcher to an SD card. When I try to boot, nothing happens. If I examine the SD card on my Linux PC, there is only one partition on it and it appears to be a kernel image. I assumed that the .img file would have the U-Boot partition as well. Is there a different type of image file I should be using that would contain everything that I need to boot? If not, how do I create such an image?

Hi, I'm trying to build for the Rock 3C so that I can minimize what goes into the kernel and system. I'm new at this and tried mostly default values (current, bookworm), except that I did minimal image instead of standard. The build failed at applying a patch. I don't know what to do with that. Can anyone help me diagnose? Also, how would I get into more details about building the image and choosing what to add/remove? Thanks!

Hi there, So I'm having a problem connecting the helios to the router. I try different lan cables and different ports. It was working everything fine yesterday, I did a reboot and no more connection. I'm completely new to this. I was installing home assistance and plex before this happened but I believe I didn't mess with anything to do with network. Don't know what I might have done. I can connect to helios via putty and after logging in the part where ip should be there is none. Any advise would be most appreciated. Again I'm completely new to this.

I'm having a very weird issue. I've encrypted a 5TB USB drive on my computer with LUKS sudo cryptsetup luksFormat /dev/sda1 And it works great on my computer. But when I plug in into my Helios64 and try to use it: sudo cryptsetup luksOpen /dev/sda1 secret Enter passphrase for /dev/sda1: No key available with this passphrase. It just refuses. And if I try to encrypt the drive from the Helios64 using cryptsetup it never finishes, the command runs forever. Anyone had similar issues? Any ideas?

Dear Armbian supporters, Using kernel 5.10.21-rockchip64 on Rock Pi 4 (and 5.10.21-sunxi on Lime2), I am not able to mount a LUKS-encrypted drive. Changing the kernel to 5.10.16-rockchip64/5.10.16-sunxi I am able to mount the LUKS-encrypted drive again. Error message when trying to mount the drive is: "No key available with this passphrase". Which change could have introduced this bug? Greetings a5s397

First of all, apologies if this has been asked before, I did search the forums and couldn't find anything related... My NanoPi M4V2 has an NVME still running Debian Buster and I have been delaying upgrading/flashing as I expect this to be not that trivial... My understanding is that the recommended upgrade path is to reflash the SD-card and start over, which is fine with me. However, I do want to ensure it will then again boot from the NVME drive as it currently does! My question is if I can do that directly (flash SD, boot from it, and change boot to NVME) and I will have all the previous data on the NVME *OR* …

Hello. I have a Tinkerboard "regular" (without internal memory). My OS is Armbian 23.02.2 Lunar. I tried many times updating to Armbian 23.10 but system always brokes. Previously, I ever can update earlier versions without problems. I also want to upgrade because the audio drivers haven't been working for a long time and I've tried a thousand things described in different forums. I was trying to avoid opening a new instability topic, but this one seems different enough from the others to deserve it's own discussion. A few days ago I applied the 1G fix (pic attached) to the 2.5G port - which was not in use until then, since all my hardware is 1G max. I did this with the intention of using both ports: the 1G port goes to an isolated VLAN that serves VM images to my Proxmox hosts, and the 2.5G interface (running at 1G speed) serves files to the rest of my network. While the fix appears to work and the port is able to communicate at 1G speeds seemingly fine, after changing to this setup I'm experiencing frequent drops in the USB bus, which c…

I've been trying to connect a USB hdd for a while now, and depending on the SATA disk and the USB<->Sata adapter I've had different behaviours : * 700mA hdd * Adapter A works, can mount and copy * Adapter B is detected, the SATA device too in dmesg, but does not appear in lsblk. * 1A hdd (Seagate Barracuda 2To 2.5'') * Adapter A seems to be detected, the disk tries to start (sde is showing in dmesg) but usb device disappears, reappears etc ("usb disk bootloop") * Adapter B is not even detected in dmesg or lsusb ! Obviously, the 4 configurations perfectly work on a x86 host. What could be going on ? I'm pr…

Hi, i'm new to armbian and i hope to write in the right place I have a rock64 and deployed it as a remote server. Since it is in a shared place, to better protect my and my user's privacy i enabled Full Disk Encryption (CRYPTROOT_ENABLE). Now, back to the question: is usb otg enabled by default? Can someone with physical access use an otg cable to read files from the rock64? I would try it by myself but i don't have physical access to the board. OS: Armbian 19.11.4 Bionic (5.4.28-rockchip64) Thanks

Hi. I am kind of linux newbie. I want to use serial console with my Rock Pi S thru usb otg. I googled and found this from https://gist.github.com/lukicdarkoo/a87f79b1c25cd86bdc47a8784d6eee9c. I tried it but failed. And I found that there was not "sunxi_usb_duc" directory. Any advice would be apreciated. =============================== ok, I just found that these are for orange pi. Any guide for rock pi s? =============================== After install new image, now I can use serial console with usb otg.

Hello, I installed Armbian 22.05.3 Jammy on a Rock Pi 4A+. Unfortunately 3 out of 4 USB ports do not work; only the USB 3.0 OTG port works. I tried using the Debian Buster download from Radxa, and all four ports work. Any suggestion on how to fix this with Armbian?

Hi, I am trying to disable UAS mode on attached USB HDs (I have quite a good amount of those) to avoid quite common issues. However, it seems that the usb_storage.quirks string is limited to 127 chars! dmesg shows: usb_storage.quirks: string doesn't fit in 127 chars I do not really see the point of limiting the string length to 127 chars..a bit more would be appreciated. Thanks

Has anybody got DAS mode working using USB-C ? Using: Armbian 20.08.21 Buster with Linux 5.8.17-rockchip64 I was not certain, I thought I read it was supported. I was hoping to use Windows 10 via USB 3.1 --> Helios64 USB-C to copy large video library. Note; using UART via COM3 is working as expected. Note; in windows I do remember seeing some USB error loading some USB driver; would it be related to some missing driver?int Any successful implementation of USB DAS interface; I would be happy to hear from you.

Since Linux 5.15, the USB3 port on ROCK64 does not work anymore with Armbian. The following kernel errors are shown: usb 5-1: USB disconnect, device number 2 [...] usb usb5-port1: Cannot enable. Maybe the USB cable is bad? This has been reported by multiple users with multiple drives and cables, also disabling UAS does not help. lsusb shows the drive/device, but lsblk does not. I know the ROCK64 is not currently supported by Armbian/has no maintainer, so I'm not expecting anything, just posting this as information and probably someone with more insights into the rockchip64 kernel build has an idea or workaround.

I have a serious problem as I mentioned in a title Currently I'm using Armbian on my NanoPi M4 and very satisfied its functionality But when I try to use usb3 device (especially camera from ZWO campany, ZWO ASI 178) with it, it doesn't recognize it as USB3 device but USB2 by checking the data transfer speed with "lsusb -t" Then, once I unplug the cable and plug it to the pi again, that device is recognized as USB3 and the data transfer speed becomes much higher. I need to get USB3's fast data transfer as soon as the board gets booted, without unplugging cables since now it's not that easy to access to the board and cable. I tried usb r…

Hi. I am trying to use bluetooth with my rock pis but I can't with armbian but debian. With debian I just followed this page and it works. https://wiki.radxa.com/RockpiS/Debian#Bluetooth But I want to work it in armbian. I turn bluetooth on in armbian-config. But "hciconfig" have no result and when I power on bluetooth, it say "No default controller available". So I searched and found it. Is it mean that I need to build a kernel to use bluetooth??

Today I decided to update my kernel to 6.3.9 with the mainline ubuntu kernel/ppa https://ubuntuhandbook.org/index.php/2020/08/mainline-install-latest-kernel-ubuntu-linux-mint/ However this does not work if you have disk-encryption . After rebooting and being greeted by enter your password, it did not work claiming its missing the dm_mod module. This is the device-mapper module needed by cryptsetup to create a device in /dev/mapper/ After running unmkinitramfs on the 6.3.9 kernel /usr/lib/modules/6.3.9/kernel/drivers/md/dm-mod.ko was indeed missing. Is this normal for mainline ubuntu kernels ? and does anyone know how…

Hi, First of all I am posting in Rockpro64 section because I am not seeing one for Rock64 What I need is like the title says: use OTG USB port as regular USB 2.0 port (so I can connect another device). Currently I need the 2 USB 2.0 ports (USB 3.0 is already being used with a external disk). Is this possible? OS version: Armbian 24.2.1 Jammy - Linux 6.6.16-current-rockchip64 Thanks in advance.

Hello, I need to develop a new camera driver. Do you have any ideas on how to avoid it linking in such order?

Hi! I am trying the vanilla 5.15 kernel which has support for helios64. The system is booting, disks, MMC and network are working. But fancontrol fails. It seems the /sys entries have changed and the udev rules are not working. I've tried to understand the wiki page in order to adapt the udev rules and fancontrol config file but I am a little bit lost. Is there updated versions of those config files? Kind regards, Xavier Miller.

I installed this version (v24.11) of Armbian on a Rock Pi 4A Plus with a PoE hat and observed significant network performance issues. When powered via PoE, the network speed becomes extremely slow and unreliable, averaging around 40 kbps. However, when I switch to using a power brick, the network operates as expected, reaching up to 1 Gbps. I also tested an older version (v24.8.4) and found that the network functions correctly with both the PoE hat and power brick. Could anyone provide insights into what might be causing these issues with the newer image?

Hello, I have installed a tinkerboard 2S and used it without problems for more than a year now. Today I started Armbian-upgrade to upgrade the system.I use a M2 WIFI card. What happens right after the reboot when the upgrade was done; the system boots normally, showing all information on the monitor, and about 5 seconds after the login prompt is displayed, it completely freezes. That is; the system doesn't react to keypresses on my USB keyboard, and SSH access isn't reacting. I can ping the device however and I know it is not dead as my .NET core application is running normally and I can access it externally! I use a wifi hotspot configuration; the wifi n…

Hey everyone, i bought a Rock 3A to get an alternative to Raspberri pi. The armbian was the system which is closest to the raspberrian and i'm glad that it works so well. But Videos 720p, 1080p mp4 play horrible bad. When i use the included videoplayer or install vlc and start a video it is laggy and slow and not useable. Is there any additional driver i have to install? Do i have to choose a different encoder? Or is the Rock 3A not capeable of playing Videos? Thank you and best regards.

Hello There! I'm currently using a Rock 4SE, tagged it as 4B because armbian says I should use the version for the board. I'm using a manually built image of armbian, though without any changes. I'm currently trying to figure out how to get faster boot times on SDDMC. So far: 1 - I've disabled some systemd services. Bluetooth related services have made a big difference. 2 - I've tried to disable USB and network support on U-Boot, though unsuccessful, in order to make U-Boot spend less time before booting the kernel. By applying some patches to U-Boot I got to the point where it either compiles and doesn't start the system because of some …

Hi, Just received my Nanopi R5C. Flashed the Debian 12 (Bookworm) Minimal/IOT images with Armbian Linux v6.12 from here https://www.armbian.com/nanopi-r5c/. Everything works well except that I could not get the WAN port working. Anyone has any idea? BTW, the Nanopi R5C looks different from the image showed on https://www.armbian.com/nanopi-r5c/. Mine has only 2 x 2.5Gb ports instead of the 3 port. The image on the page looks like a NanoPi R5S... Just a side note. Cheers.

What gives with the Armbian website links? Links to all previous versions Armbian for the OrangePi R1 Plus LTS have been removed. The links to SHA hash and PGP signature do nothing. I was hoping to use an image that was based on Debian Bullseye, but that link has been recently removed. It is possible to create my image, but I would spend my time working on my code, not wading through the options to create an image.

My Helios64 is "far away" and I am afraid to change network configuration, because if I miss something I could lose connectivity to the box. I would like to attach COM-to-IP adapter so that I always had serial console available, but... what actually do I need? "Normal" com-to-ip adapter provides COM port. Helios64 has COM-in-USB. So...? How to convert Helios'es serial console to anything accessible via LAN?

Not really serious, ins't it ? Thank you for any help. Regard.
