hi there! im a beginner in the linux world, but to try to learn a bit more and to try to make something useful im currently lookin at a orange pi 4 board in hope to somehow turn it in a NAS/Emby server. i played a little with the Opi4 and it looks promising, the only problem is that it doesnt have sata ports. i can get an extension board to plug in a mPCIE device, and i was planning to use it to connect a PCIE-Sata device. since i still have to buy it, do you have any suggestion? i looked at the JMB585 and the ASM1166 expansion boards, they both have plenty of ports for what i need and the speed its more than amazing, but i would like to know if they are …

I am adding support for a new board: NanoPi R2S Plus. I have added it to the kernel and it works in testing so far. Now I am attempting to add the new board to u-boot. The u-boot configuration for NanoPi R2S does not enable the eMMC and I want to install to boot from eMMC. Using my modified kernel and u-boot for NanoPi R2S I am able to run armbian-install because in the system booted from SD card the eMMC is enabled. But after installing to eMMC, shutting down and removing the SD card, boot fails because u-boot cannot access the eMMC. Looking at the device tree for NanoPi R2S in u-boot, not surprisingly, eMMC is not enabled: NanoPi R2S does not have eMMC memor…

I am working with a nanopi neo. The overlay documentation says the default pps pin is PD14. How do I cross reference the gpio names in the overlay documentation to what the documentation on friendlyelec site. I dont see anything close to a PD14. None of the pin assignments match whats in the manufactures documentation. The I2C pins and a few others are clearly marked from the manufacture, so I could give that a good guess. Other than that, where do I find or how do I figure out which pin does what? Rob

Hello, previously, after creating a patch file, (v24.11) I used to save it in the userpatches directory as zzzz_xxxx_whatever.patch to ensure it was processed at the bottom of the current patch list. But now, it seems that this no longer works, and therefore, I cannot apply the patch.zzzz_panel_mipi_dsi.patch thank you. here is the log file: https://paste.armbian.com/horamafuru Edit: tested with(trunk.239) latest armbian build( https://github.com/armbian/build/tree/v25.5.0-trunk.239 with zzz-patch-test.patch here is the log file: https://paste.armbian.eu/joyalusado zzzz_panel_mipi_dsi.patch

I would like to run Armbian on my multi boot PC. i came across a video on how to install Armbian on an X86 PC. How you have to use Gnome Disk to Restore Image to your drive. Does anybody know if it would work correctly doing that on a multi boot PC? I know I would need to update Grub afterwards for it to show in the list.

I have a NanoPi R2S Plus. If I boot the FriendlyElec Debian image both network ports work: LAN and WAN. If I boot the Armbian NanoPi R2S image, it boots OK and the LAN port works but the WAN port does not work. I believe the WAN port does not work because the NanoPi R2S has an RTL8211E chip but the NanoPi R2S Plus has an RTL8211F chip. I found some notes about problems with network on other boards that had the same change of chip (e.g. radxa RockpiE) and the device tree changes required to accommodate the new chip. So I tried to patch armbian/build to make the same changes for the NanoPi R2S Plus. I am not familiar with armbian/build or…

Hi, I'm trying to build an image on Windows. But when running compile.sh, I get the following error: [💲|💥] Problem detected [ WSL2 Terminal does not support UTF-8 ] Full log: https://paste.armbian.com/zopitumatu I don't know why this is happening, I've tried both cmd, powershell 5, powershell 7, all with the same result. The log mentions the Windows Terminal in the Microsoft Store should support it, but that already is installed and seems to just open the same Powershell 5, with the same error. Any idea on how to fix this?

Hi! installed the recent armbian 25 server image on my Odroid HC4. Used armbian 22 before, but microsd was physically damaged. Unfortunately, the board can't reboot! I already tried to apply this solution, which was prescribed for armbian 24 reboot problems, yet it does not seem to help. Any help is appreciated. Although I do not want to downgrade... what is the last stable (=rebootable) armbian for the Odroid HC4? Does anyone know?

Hi, I have a Helios4 NAS I haven't used in over a year. This NAS have 4 HDDs set as a RAID5 in it with valuable information that I need access to. I've installed Armbian bookworm and found that there is no /proc/mdstat file from which to recover the RAID5 array. I am now at a loss on how to rebuild the RAID5 array and regain access to the information on these drives, from what I read, mdadm was removed as a feature in more modern distros and is no longer used. I've installed mdadm however still no /proc/mdstat from which to recover the RAID array. Can anyone point me in the right direction on how to rebuild this array and use it in my bookworm d…

Is it possible to install armbian using dd? I see the instructions say to use USBImager is recommended. However, my situation is that the computer I am using is an ARM64 running Linux, and it appears there is not a binary download of USBImager available for ARM64-linux. I could compile my own copy of USBImager, but it seems like it might be simpler to use dd. Or--is there an alternative to USBImager that I could install on my ARM64-linux (debian), preferably using the package manager?

Hello everyone, I’m a complete beginner and have very little programming knowledge. However, I decided to build a MagicMirror as a project. For this, I got a BananaPi M2 Berry and installed what I believe is an Armbian operating system on it. Then I downloaded the corresponding packages for the MagicMirror from GitHub. Everything worked so far—though it was quite challenging—and I even managed to personalize each module. But now I have two problems: I want the MagicMirror to stay in portrait mode permanently. However, after a while (about 30 minutes), the screen automatically switches back to landscape mode and opens a new window of the “Display” appli…

Hello everyone, First timer here. I enabled the wlan0 interface on my Orange Pi zero 2w and am able to connect to the internet. However, I am not able to connect to it via SSH or even ping it, (cannot resolve host). I tried to ping other devices from within the orange pi and it works without any issues. Any advice is very much appreciated

Hi. For my application it would be very advantageous to speed up the boot time of the device as much as possible. The application depends on the network, and unfortunately it seems it takes a while for the interface to establish a connection. After plugging in the device, I count that it takes about 25-30 seconds until my application starts (which is set to start on reboot by cron). However, at that time, the network is still not up, so it matters little that the application has started. It takes another 20 seconds or so until the device is reachable by the network. So total 45-50 seconds from boot. Why is this? I see in systemd-analyze t…

Hi! I just flashed Armbian 24.11.1 Bookworm Minimal / IOT onto my Odroid HC1 SD-Card. I'm trying to use an Orange Pi Pc Plus v1.1. The disk images for it provided by Orange Pi are worth nothing, having repositories that do not work. As an alternative I've been looking at Armbian, and decided to try the images supplied here: https://www.armbian.com/orange-pi-pc-plus/ . I had a problem with both: -The Ubuntu image always reboot as soon as the gui loads. I’ve done some searching, but haven’t found a clear answer. i have a rockpi-s with a built in eMMC that has a bootable armbian image. When i insert a micro-SD card into the RP, and the card has a bootable image, it happily boots off of the card. Remove the card, and it boots off the eMMC. Perfect. Now, how do I duplicate this same functionality with a usb key? no key or sd = boot from eMMC SD inserted = boot from SD USB inserted = boot from USB I’ve been able to get the RP to boot from the usb using armbian-install to set it up, but then if I remove the USB, it no longer boots from the eMMC.

Hi, It is very hard to start OS (community version, downloaded from here). The system doesn't start at all, if the keyboard is already attached. I've discovered some magic moment during the startup process, when I can attach keyboard and system goes further. In most of moments the boot process stops, as soon as I'm attaching the keyboard. Lines are scrolled too fast to let me note what moment is "successful". Also I've noticed that the chip is very hot, when the keyboard is attached. It's much colder when keyboard is detached. Another small issue is that functional keys don't work. Though Ctrl/Alt and other similar keys do. …

I'm trying to build the linux-tools binaries from the kernel using the armbian build. I ran the ./compile.sh script and it built the image, but I only want the linux-tools binaries to copy over. I'm not sure how to get it to build them, when I go into the kernel tools folder and do "make all" it builds the binaries for x64 instead of for arm64. I looked through the kernel config file when running ./compile.sh script but can't find an option to build the linux-tools. I'm not sure how to add it so that they are built for the target system arm64.

As listed in the topic, this is my desired and actual partition table setup for a lot of my computers. The U-boot 'partition 0' is typically somewhere in sector 1 till where partition 1 starts and only for SoCs/boards that do not understand any filesystem, like Allwinner and Rockchip based platforms. Also old BIOS PCs actually. It can be MBR or GPT (+hybrid) if more than 4 partitions are needed, for multi-boot, like adding Linux to a new Win11 pre-installed PC. The FAT is ESP or just type 0x0c/0x0700. Now I am struggling a bit with the case where a preinstalled ROCK 3A (RK3568, board ordered, not delivered yet) image has FAT mounted in /boot. RaspberryPi and U…

Hi, picked up a Rock 5b+ as it looked like the exact right board hardware wise and the rk3588 is getting a reasonable amount of support and happy to see it's officially supported by Armbian. Was able to build and flash the UEFI image and boot into the Fedora installer which would allow a RAID install but unfortunately it doesn't support either the PCIe bifurcation needed for both m.2 slots to work or the hardware acceleration for transcoding. It looks like there's progress being made by Collabora so eventually mainline support should be good enough but for now I'm looking to use Armbian with the BSP kernel as able to boot into it with both drives being de…

Hello everyone, new ARM user here, but long-time GNU/Linux user for about 25 years. I'm trying to install a (preferably debian based) distribution on a newly acquired ARM laptop, a Samsung "galaxy S book" model SM-W767V - this machine is based on qcom's "Snapdragon 8cx" SoC. When i try to boot a generic image (assuming the BIOS/UEFI lists it in the boot menu) it either freezes or reboots at a specific point during the boot process. Where it crashes is always consistent for a specific image, but can differ across different images. The Armbian ones make it past the bootloader and crash at some point during the kernel boot. Has anyone had …

Hi all, i just stumbled upon the Bana Pi M4 Zero while searching for an pi zero 2w alternative that features at least 5ghz network support. My use case is explained quickly, I want to use g_mass_storage to create an smart usb stick device. I can't use libcomposite, since old devices (and it's going to be used with old tech) don't support composite as far as I know. Is g_mass_storage supported by default or would I have to compile my own kernel/image?

Hello everyone, I encountered a "No space left on device (28)" issue while compiling custom firmware and would like to seek your help. The firmware compilation process works fine under normal circumstances. However, after using the customize-image.sh script to install my own applications, the rootfs size became 3285 MiB, and I encountered the "No space left on device (28)" error during compilation. I modified FIXED_IMAGE_SIZE to 6G and recompiled, but the same issue persisted. After mounting the raw file, I confirmed that no additional files could be added. I suspect there’s some parameter restricting this, but I’m not sure…

Hello everyone, I recently purchased an ili9488 touch screen for use with my Orange Pi 5, but I'm having trouble getting it to work. I’m trying to use a 3.5 LCD (waveshare clone) with ILI9486 + XPT2046 with my orange pi zero. My display is like this. I installed both Debian_buster_next_4.19.59 and Ubuntu_bionic_next_4.19.57 and I followed many guides in here with no success. I edited armbianEnv.txt and added these: overlays=spi-spidev spi-add-cs1 param_spidev_spi_bus=1 param_spidev_spi_cs=1 After that I ran this sudo modprobe fbtft_device custom name=fb_ili9486 gpios=dc:18,reset:2 speed=16000000 busnum=1 rotate=90 and didn’t get any error. I figured that the reset & DC pins on orange pi zero are pin22(GPIO2) and pin18(GPIO18) but I’m not 100% sure about these.…

Hello I have a 1440p (QHD, 2560x1440) monitor, but whatever I tried it was always giving me 1080p (1920x1080). Hi, I setup a Radxa Zero 2 last week with Klipper, a 3d printing firmware. Over the past few months, I've transitioned my printer to using canbus. I'm finding the setup process slightly different with Armbian than it was on RpiOS, and I'd appreciate feedback or pointers that could help me better understand networking in Armbian. I use a usb canbus adapter. In the past, I've configured it using the standard Klipper config written to `/etc/network/interfaces.d/can0`: allow-hotplug can0 iface can0 can static bitrate 1000000 up ifconfig $IFACE txqueuelen 1024 So, when I went to setup the Radxa, I did what I've always done, and i…

Hello, I have questions related with overlay. I'm using Radxa Zero 3W and in the /boot/armbianEnv.txt it has overlay_prefix=rk35xx. I want to use this overlay /boot/dtb/rockchip/overlay/radxa-zero3-disabled-wireless.dtbo. If I cat /boot/boot.cmd it read the overlays with this line ${overlay_prefix}-${overlay_file}.dtbo. It means if I add overlays=disabled-wireless in /boot/armbianEnv.txt, it will not find the dtbo right? So my questions are, 1. Can I manually edit the overlay_prefix to radxa-zero3? 2. If can then will that has impact on the feature, eg kernel upgrade or anything?

So I was trying to compile a wifi driver for a somewhat new usb wifi device and it breaks during compilation because it expects a directory named /usr/src/<linux-headers>/arch/aarch64 but on NanoPi NEO3 the directory is named (on NanoPI R4S is the same case btw) /usr/src/<linux-headers>/arch/arm64 In order to make it work, I created a symlink under the "arch" directory called "aarch64" pointing to "arm64" and I was able to compile it. Here is what happens when I try to compile it without the symlink: pablo@callampa:~/repos/github.com/morrownr/rtl8852cu-20240510$ make clean cd phl ; rm -fr */*/*/*/*.mod.c */*/*/*/*.mod */*/*/*…

Hi all. I am new to Arm and Linux in general. Got me a Raspberry pi5 several days ago and was going trough different OS systems so i can settle on one final choice. Landed in the Armbian community and tested the Armbian Bookworn / Gnome distro and was amazed how smooth and good looking this is. The only problem i have is the lack of preinstalled Widevine support. I know (and also tested) that Raspberry OS does have DRM playback support trough Widevine. So it works with the latest 64bit Arm Linux Kernel, right ? So i even went and extracted the Widevine folder form the RpOS system.... Now, several days after i am clueless on how to install Widevine and make the Chcromi…

I am trying to get BigTreeTech Pi TFT43 display working on a Radxa Rockpi 3A I have. I put the latest Armbian image on the rockpi, but I'm at a loss as to how I configure the device tree to make the screen work. I have verified that the screen does work on a Raspberry Pi 3B+ while using BTT's instructions here, but those instructions don't seem to translate to Armbian. All other examples I have found seem to be specific to the SBC vendor's custom branches. It looks like the vdd_mipi regulator is not enabled so I guess that should be the first step, how do I enable it? Thanks for your help!

Looking at lscpu reports turns out that my board is vulnerable to spectre v2 because eBPF is enabled. I tryed to disable it by using sysctl but it seems it doesn't work (this is the solution used by ubuntu distributions to solve the problem 'sudo sysctl kernel.unprivileged_bpf_disabled=1 or 2'). I'm on Debian version. Is this option kernel dependent?

I have FriendlyElect CM3588 (RK3588 based) Nas kit which is lagging behind in terms of incorporating the latest NPU driver (the current is 0.9.3) in their firmwares. Thier repository contains Ubuntu / Debian with Kernels 6.1.x As far as I know the latest RKNPU version is 0.9.6. and as I understand there is no OS on Armian tailored for CM3588. What is best way to get the lastest driver?
