Hello team, I encountered a dependency conflict while trying to upgrade the package armbian-bsp-cli-panther-x2-current to version 25.8.2. The issue seems to be a mismatch in the required version of base-files. I've heard people say that the Orange Pi is a "budget alternative" to the Raspberry Pi. On one hand, the Raspberry Pi has an excellent community, with a large user base that could really help you in your learning journey. On the other hand, the Orange Pi offers great value for money, and it's really tempting because the Raspberry Pi can be a bit pricey. What's your suggestion?

I'm unable to make an RTC module to work: RTC module ds3231, BPI M2Z and ARMBIAN Bookworm i2c pins 3 and 5 Driver RTC-ds1307 loaded, because RTC-ds3231 is not available. Why do I need a RTC-module? Often in the field I'm not online but I do need the right time on my observation camera's. My application does not allow me for having a monitor. My system does the recordings by motion detection, and the recordings do need the right time on it. armbian-config i2c0 set Tools installed: apt install python3-smbus i2c-tools i2cdetect -y 0 Detects address 068 and not UU as proof of driver been loaded …

Hey everyone, I'm eyeing the Orange Pi 6 Plus for some edge AI projects, given its 12-core CIX SoC, up to 28.8 TOPS NPU, and massive RAM options (16/32/64GB LPDDR5). Has anyone gotten Ollama running on it with NPU acceleration? Does it support it out of the box, or do you need to convert models (e.g., to INT4/INT8 formats) using custom tools like rkllama or similar? Additionally, with the higher RAM, can it handle bigger LLMs (like 13B+ models) more smoothly than lower-spec SBCs? Any benchmarks or tips on setups (e.g., Ubuntu/Debian installs, frameworks like MLC-LLM)? I'd love to hear real-world experiences—thanks!

I need to enter to u-boot menu/enviroment/shell and I can't I try to press any button when I'm rebooting but nothing happened and i've just have a booted system I have only UART to my system. In other devices I have some time to press any key to enter to u-boot shell but there I don't have time. U-boot exec bootcmd immediately I need to enter to u-boot shell and reconfigure some env for my work. I use Armbian 25.8.2 noble

Hi all, digging into the Orange Pi 6 Plus specs for a potential build. Can anyone confirm the M.2 slots (the two Key-M 2280 ones) are PCIe Gen 4 with x4 lanes each? Official docs mention NVMe support but are light on details. I'm curious if this could handle a low-end GPU like an RX 570 (or even lower) through an NVMe-to-PCIe adapter/riser—thinking for light gaming or compute tasks. Has anyone tried eGPU setups on this board or similar ARM SBCs? What about power delivery, drivers, and performance? Running Linux (Ubuntu/Debian probably). Thanks for any insights or benchmarks!

Many thanks Newbie (please be nice, I'm new to Armbian and SBC's)

Hello, I am planning to desgin a Computer-on-Board, but would like to know what are the minimal specs needed for it to run a graphical user interface with a desktop. Doing a simple Google Search gives me two answers: "512 MB RAM memory, at least 8 GB of storage (on a quality SD card or eMMC), a 4-core processor, and wired networking. For a more advanced Armbian build framework, you'll require a system with at least 8GB of RAM and 50GB of disk space, although specific requirements vary depending on the hardware." My main issue with this is that it doesn't explain directly if 512 MB of RAM and a 4-core processor (and what frequency?) are enough for the most ligh…

I'm currently in the process of deciding between the Orange Pi 3B and the Raspberry Pi 4, and i'd love to hear your thoughts. I know that Raspberry Pi has a huge community and a ton of resources, which is super appealing for someone like me who's looking to learn and tinker. The support from the community is definitely a big selling point, especially since I'm just starting out. That said, l'm also considering the Orange Pi because it's much more affordable. The price difference is hard to ignore and l have heard it's a pretty solid option for DlY projects and development. Plus, l'm thinking ahead - l might want to stick with Orange Pi for future projects as well, sin…

Board: ODROID HC4 Kernel: 6.12.42-current-meson64 Issue: PWM fan control completely non-functional despite software appearing to work Problem Summary: The HC4's PWM fan runs at constant speed regardless of PWM settings. Manual PWM control has zero effect on fan speed, even when setting PWM to 0 (fan should stop/slow) or 255 (full speed). What I've Tried: Hardware Testing: Verified fan wiring with schematic (Pin 1=+5V, Pin 2=GND, Pin 3=TACHO, Pin 4=PWM) Tested with Noctua NF-A4x10 5V PWM fan (confirmed working on other systems) Swapped PWM/TACHO wire positions - no change Software Testing: Manual PWM …

Hey fellas I have FOUR different armbian devices (one official armbian, three running ophub's armbian) which all seem to struggle with network throughput at high latency connections. It is not a cpu issue and this doesn't occur on x86 debian. Here's the odd thing. If I connect an ethernet usb dongle, like rtl8152b I get the full throughput even at high latency. What??? So it's a nic issue? I thought maybe the onboard ethernet isn't well supported by the kernel so I got a nanopi neo4 with onboard realtek gigabit running official armbian 6.12.3x ... AND it's slow too. Any onboard nic with armbian is slow in my tests. …

Hello I'm new in Armbian. I'm trying to connect one Orange Pi Zero 2 to a 3d printer (board Cheetah v1.2) using UART in order to install Klipper to control the printer. I can't find how to enable the UART port to connect. I'm planning use UART 5 (pins PH2 PH3 according to this pinout http://www.orangepi.org/orangepiwiki/images/e/e3/Orange-pi-zero2-img4.png) . Sorry if I have come to the wrong place. A friend has given me an Orange Pi 5 Plus, fitted with a 1GB SSD, and I have been trying to get it started up. According to its previous owner, the SSD had been completely erased (I don't know why). It had no SD card with it when I got it. I downloaded the online instruction manuals, and set about trying to start it up, using a suitable 32GB SD card. I first tried with (OrangePi) Ubuntu, but ran into problems using Balena Etcher. It apparently transfers the Ubuntu Image to the SD card, but just as it appears to complete the process of verification, it produces a helpful error message ('There was an Error'....). I also tried wi…

Hello, I'm pretty new to Armbian world and still trying to learn how everything works. I have got this Asus Tinker Board R2.0 that I'm trying to use with an Armbian image. However, before flashing the Armbian image to SD and boot from it, is there any way I could emulate the system on my PC, boot from a fresh Armbian ROM, change my preferred settings and install the applications I want, and then transfer the whole "personalised" ROM to an SD and boot from it on my actual Tinker Board. If I need to "initialise" the fresh Armbian ROM on the actual Tinker Board, can I then use the SD card (or an img created from it with Win…

Hi, I’m new to the forum and just wanted to take a moment to appreciate the incredible work Armbian has done for the community. I have been tinkering around with Radxa rock 5 ITX SBC and Armbian. I flashed UEFI EDK2 for Radxa rock 5 ITX v1.1 from EDK2 porting to RK3588 initiative. While I can install ARM64 version of Ubuntu and Debian, none of them had support for H/W transcoding. So I decided to build an Armbian which used vendor kernel and had `uefi-edk2-3588` extension. Full build report is linked in this Armbian paste ./compile.sh \ BOARD=rock-5-itx \ RELEASE=trixie \ BRANCH=vendor \ BUILD_MINIMAL=yes \ BUILD_DESKTOP=no \ KERNEL_CONFIG…

Hello, dear armbian community. I am using Orange Pi 5 plus, and I want to use kernel-6.16-5-edge-rockchip64 by armbian, as works much better than actual mainline (I have broken HDMI sound, buggy OpenGL, no power profiles) I, however, want to build kernel for different distro (OpenSUSE Tumbleweed, aka binpkg-rpm). Hello all, I succeed to boot on sata usb by seting the UUID of the armbian_root from mmcblk1p1 to sda1 I tested several M2 SSD enclosures both NVME and NGFF most of the time, one in the middle, has a USB Hub and micro SDCARD port. Now if the USB enclosures is not connected, we are stuck in initramfs stage because the UIID partition given in /boot/ArmbianEnv.txt does not exist. I changed the UUID of emmc armbian_root (mmcblk1p1) thinking it would be overmapped with partition of S2 usb enclosure (sda1). It is not the case, it will only boot on emmc , ignoring S2 enclosures when mmcblk1p1 and sda1 shares the same UUID. …

Getting into buildroot and yocto seems a bit too much for me to get an A+B style update possibility. I would like to stick with the quality images provided by Armbian. The following applies to a NanoPi-NEO3 others SBC might have different partition layouts. From what I understood is that uboot looks for /boot in /dev/mmcblk0p1 reads the boot.cmd/scr and armbianEnv.txt and then boots the kernel accordingly. The armbianEnv.txt seems to point the kernel to the root partition using the rootdev directive. If /dev/mmcblk0p1 would now only hold /boot would it be possible to point to a different partition for the rootfs using armbianEnv.txt? …

Hi, I used to run a full docker environment using the Radxa Debian buster image upgraded to bullseye. Lately as the backport repo has been archived I decided to move onto Armbian as upgrading bullseye to bookworm did not boot (or seemed so...). After flashing the latest Rockpi4 image to the Rockpi4, I copied the docker configuration and files backups. I now have a akward behavior: - starting all the stacks (or containers) works fine, all seems ok - rebooting via sudo reboot provokes an endless reboot cycle which is only ended if I unplug the USB Zigbee coordinator key. Once the loop is stopped, the RockPi does not have any IPv4 address (only IPv…

Hello, Thru various and sundry means, I have acquired this unusual specimen; a ZeroDesktop MiiPC M1140. This was originally intended to be a "family desktop PC" that runs on Android Jelly Bean and was released in 2013. It looks like a TV box had a child with a NUC. The machine runs a Marvell Armada 1500 Plus processor with 1GB of RAM and 4GB of storage. The company, Zerodesktop, ran a Kickstarter campaign to fund producing these - my model is one of the Kickstarter Editions. I know that the Marvell Armada 1500 was used in the Google Chromecast 2, along with a bunch of set top boxes. ZeroDesktop no longer exists as a company, having only produced t…

While there are no issues with installing packages and configuring the network, there is a peculiarity with the login and password. Hi there, It's quite beginner question, so I started it here. Just got my OPi zero 3, for now I can connect it to my ethernet network (with DHCP), but have no monitor / mouse / keyboard for going through initial setup (root password, "normal" user name, full name and password. How can I prepare official SD image for such case? Laurent

Everything works, but I don't know why (;-) I upgraded to a new kernel 6.12.34-current-meson64 and also to the current u-boot. If I take a look at a current armbian image, every image.. vmlinux.. etc. is available in the boot folder, but no uImage. In my boot folder, however, in addition to the these files in the current armbian image, in my boot folder is still is a uImage from 2022. uname -r -> 6.12.34-current-meson6 So the current kernel is loaded and everything works. But if I now delete the uImage from 2022, the computer no longer boots. How does a current armbian image manage to boot without uImage? Is a uImage created at the first start? Manually…

hi guys, Danubio from Uruguay successfully tested very nice QPC2 Sinclair QL emulator (hybrid m68k + win32 peripheral code) on armbian with hangover 🙂 https://theqlforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=5330 he is testing lot of old windows music apps on armbian this way, so I asked him also to test QPC2, this was one of my cool use cases for armbian too (busy here with other things still so ... my way to linux is very slow ...) So I'm trying to connect with a UART cable from my PC to the board (OPI3LTS). Here's what I did so far: In desperation, I double checked every connection, to no avail. My devices are powered separately, so only the RX and TX cable are connected, and they are crossed as they should. Set up permissions: sudo chmod 666 /dev/ttyUSB0 Add user to dialout: sudo adduser <user> dialout Install minicom: Set up minicom with the correct address: /dev/ttyUSB0 Set up the correct baud rate (115200 in this case) Turn off flow control Tried connecting via "screen", minicom and putty, all of them just show me…

My goal is to use Radxa Rock3a with a large 3.5inch HDD as a first step. Works fine if I use a M.2 E-key adapter which connects on the PCIe2.0 x1 lane and provides SATA via a JMB 5-port chip (only 2 connectors, support is in U-boot default Armbian build 2024.10). Worked also if I use an overlay included in early 6.1.84-vendor-rk35xx builds that maps RK3568 SATA onto the PCIe2.0 M.2 connector traces/signals, but now the whole 6.1.84-vendor-rk35xx ends in panic. I have not looked at exact changes (it is from the beta channel), but it was working with trunk.x and now installed variant is from trunk.y. I might not be able to find exact numbers for x and …

Actual booting from eMMC and system including OMV from Sata SSD. Running boot & system from eMMC should be possible now and I would like to transfer system from SSD to eMMC without losing my config and starting from scratch again. That way I'll have a sdd beside the hdd for OMV. How can I manually transfer the system including OMV from SSD to eMMC and what configuration files need to be altered?

I found my NanoPi Neo Air's could not list or connect to some wifi networks. Some investigating found this was because channel 12/13 are disabled by default. Nothing in runtime had any effect on the output of iw reg get as it should have. Patching in some firmware fixes worked for me. wget http://ftp.be.debian.org/pub/software/network/wireless-regdb/wireless-regdb-2025.02.20.tar.xz tar xf wireless-regdb-2025.02.20.tar.xz sudo cp wireless-regdb-2025.02.20/regulatory.db /lib/firmware/ sudo cp wireless-regdb-2025.02.20/regulatory.db.p7s /lib/firmware/ sudo iw reg set AU #Australia I can now connect to wifi channel 13. I have a pair of Orange Pi 3's acting as redundant PiHoles on my home network. After a bit of tinkering and configuring, I have them set up the way I want, and would like to keep them that way. Of course, a good backup plan is essential to this. Looking online, I found Image-Utils for Raspberry Pi, but that is limited in support for only the Raspbian OS. Is there a good system out there to make a cloneable image of an SD card in an Orange Pi, either from the Pi itself to a remote source (NFS mount, etc.), or from a remote source pulling from the Pi? I'd like to schedule this as a CRON job, so that in the event of a hardware failure, I can just re…

Hey there since i got a Bananapi-R1 recently ive started to notice that there are no up to Date Images out there. Official support is over since 2016 and none of the Images later than Ubuntu 16.04 i found started booting or even have a working Download Link! So i had to figure out how i could get a later Version installed on my Board by myself! I have compiled a Bullseye Image that works fine, the only things ive noticed are missing OTG and WirringPi Support! Maybe someone knows a way how to get it working?? As i wrote before i couldnt find any recent Images out there, so i compiled some with this well documented Compiler by Armbian. SSH…

I am not able to boot from armbian. First I downloaded image from (https://www.armbian.com/orange-pi-zero-2w/) later on I flashed the image with usbimager, then since this didn't work I did with balena etcher, (all those in linux). Balena etcher crashes at verification so then I did with my windows machine, first with usbimager and since it wasn't working I decided to decompress the .xz and do it with "rufus" Here i attach the images and as you guys can see it says "failed to mount /dev/mtdblock4". That terminal is pretty much useless, I can't even do reboot or poweroff. I just need armbia…

How to compile DKMS on the board? I am trying this for the past week without success and starting to go crazy... The last kernel which worked is 6.11.2. I tried with zfs-dkms (from apt's repositories and from manually build .deb from zfs git) and with aic8800 drivers. I've tried Bookworm image, tried Noble. Tried -current and -edge kernels. Tried many kernel revisions. Tried to build kernels (image & headers) with compile.sh with docker, without docker. Updated my x86 Debian to Trixie. I have connected matrix led display on max7219 by spi to orangepi. Module max7219 have power supply from 5v. On some during a 220v power failure (sparking between wires suspended on poles), there were some disruptions in the 5v power supply. This damaged the max7219 modules and possible spi port on orange pi. After this failure, the /boot/armbianEnv.txt file contained a fragment of the logrotate file, the kernel on the orange pi is unable to initialize the spi port despite no wires being connected. After connecting a working orange pi to the max7219 module, the problem with spi initialization also appears. Dmesg does not show anything related to spi, there is no /dev…

Hi, I wanted to install Armbian to my old Asus eee PC. So I made live USB containing the .iso and boot from there. I can login as root fine, but when running armbian-install, I only see the option of installing to sdb (my USB drive), but not to my sda (the laptop local drive). I am not sure what's the problem. Do I have to do something to the partition in sda? Currently Alpine Linux is installed in the local drive. Previous installation was Lubuntu (14, I think?). I want to run pi-hole and there are not many supported OSes for pi-hole that still support x86, so I would like to make it work. Armbian version: Armbian 25.5.1 Bookworm Minimal

I am building a custom image for rpi4b and everything works great so far. I only want to customize the installed packets and configuration, but I do not need a custom kernel. Since building the kernel is what takes by a wide margin most of the image generation time, I was wondering if there's a way to build the image without building the kernel (using the one from the official builds). I have browsed the documentation and found no way, so maybe it is not supported and building the kernel is mandatory?

TL:DR Orange Pi Plus 2e USB ports are not working on newer images (LE and Armbian). Full story: Hi. I am Catota and I am new here. I am mainly a windows user with very little experience with linux. I am new to armbian, and so far I managed to build a working image with some custom packages added and some removed by customizing `userpatches/lib.config`. Easy stuff and it's working great so far! Now I need to build some packages from sources and get them added to the resulting image. The usual way I would do this, would be installing a cross toolchain, having a staging dir with includes and libs from the dev packages I add to the image, etc. But after building the base armbian image, on my system I see I have two docker images related to armbian (ghcr.io/armbian/docker-armbian-build and armbian.local.only/armbian-build), and I wonder if maybe the "local on…

the version number of zfsutils-linux was too low for the new version of zfs-dkms. So I downgraded zfs-dkms but the recent version of linux kernel was too high for the old version of zfs-dkms. I tried armbian-config to change the version of the kernel down to 6.6 from 6.12.18 but somehow it just repeatedly tried to build dkms modules for 6.12.18 again and again so I just gave up using armbian-config. The usual way to get the a headless linux box up and running is to flash a disk image to a µSD card and then insert that card into the linux box, boot, answer some questions and it's done. Can I not do the same thing with an image file that I put on the µSD card (in addition to the µSD card having a complete linux OS that the box can boot from) and copy that to the emmc? Then pull the card and boot from the emmc? Does the image file used for a µSD card differ from the image file that should be written to the emmc? e.g. I have an armbian image, say "Armbian_25.2.2_Rockpi-s_bookworm_current_6.12.15_minimal.img.xz", on my µSD card at /media/…
