When I turn my Orange Pi 5 on, it auto-logins to the desktop which I do not want. I tried looking at nodm and lightdm but couldn't find either. I would like to disable this as it is a security concern. On a side note, as a feature request, this should be disabled by default or else something prompted for during the first time setup.

Is there any description how to setup the boot logo? I tried what I found: in build/packages/blobs/splash change logo.png and run command line with "BOOT_LOGO=yes", it doesn't work. After I found "What we use now is plymouth". OK. Does it work in compile time? I don't have plymouth after installing armbian in a docker container. How should I use plymouth (if it is the only way) to make a boot logo in compile time?

Long story short, I accidentally removed all the contents of the /boot folder 😢. I'm running minimal Armbian 24.5.1 Bookworm with Linux 6.1.43-vendor-rk35xx on Orange pi 5 plus. It all started with a failed apt update indicating there wasn't enough space in the boot partition. The update was trying to install 6.1.75-vendor-rk35xx kernel, so I decided to remove the old one from the boot to free up some space. Instead, I accidentally applied 'rm -r' to the entire /boot folder. My SBC is working fine now, but I'm afraid it won't boot on next restart, so I'm looking for a way to recover the files. So far, I performed apt upgrade, which put the new…

Is there any reason with llmnr has been enabled on each interface while mdns has been globally and x interface disabled? I have some weird issues with llmnr that I don't have with mdns Just to detail my above sentence (on windows pc): when I ping just ipv4 (ping -4) hostname is solved just the first time, subsequent request can't find host when I ping ipv6 or default (ping -6 or just ping) hostname is always solved

I am creating the image from source from the Armbian build repository on GitHub for an Orangepi5. I have altered the kernel configuration to force module signing. The .config is attached. My problem is that after the build there is no signing_key.pem in /certs. But when I get the source from Torvalds repository and not using Armbian build the file gets created. The following helps to realize the scope of my question: https://www.kernel.org/doc/html/v6.1/admin-guide/module-signing.html#generating-signing-keys .config

Attempting to install ZFS. But it seems that the latest linux headers are linux-headers-5.10.0-31-arm64. I am not able to install ZFS. Pretty sure I need to lower the kernel to match. sudo modprobe zfs modprobe: FATAL: Module zfs not found in directory /lib/modules/6.6.39-current-rockchip64 Installed linux-image-5.10.0.31-arm64. I also sudo apt-mark hold linux-image-5.10.0.31-arm64. But I do not know how to set the kernel to boot. Search tells me to use armbian-config. Had to install it and after running it the "Other" option is missing. There isn't any options to change the kernel.

Oops, I connected a 24V power supply to the SATA Hat and I think I blew the diode on the hat. (see photo) Not sure if it is a diode, which way should it be orientated. Stupid idiot for creating the magic smoke, I hope I can repair it. I tried booting the Orange Pi I had already connected to it (because the original NanoPi M4 is missing... Fortunately the OrangePi is OK. Any advice on where to look if the diode in question does not fix it. Cheers, James

Hi, I have a neo3 that has been running without any issues for about a year. Today after I had to restart it and the device wouldn't boot anymore. I checked the systemd logs by mounting the sd card in my laptop and I can see that it didn't get to boot at all (as there are no systemd logs after the shutdown). I checked the card for filesystem issues, and it seems to be OK. But I have no idea how to fix this. I really don't want to flash again an image and start from zero as I have a good amount of software installed that would take a lot of time to setup again. If this is a problem with the bootloader, how can I troubleshoot it? I don't have a serial interface so I…

I am looking to purchase an SBC ideally under $100 to install armbian and develop some hardware projects. I had previously gone for a BpiM5 which also has EMMC but when I came to install software I found there is little support from the makers, installing software is fiddly and the most recent Armbian images for this board were not working. I eventually got this going using Ubuntu Mate. For my next project I would like to change from Amlogic CPU's , use Armbian as the software base and choose a platform which has reasonable up to date support whilst avoiding going for an RPI. Hello, I'm a newby in linux and armbian. I'm trying to force static ip on my sbc, I followed some hints on internet adding file to interface.d folder, directly in interface file (both created on purpose by me). Interface is enP4p65s0 and I replaced in exaples eth0 with this (auto enP4p65s0 iface... etc) but it seems none works. armbian-config seems to do nothing (it seems broken) Anyone can route me to some doc?

Hi I am building armbian image for Nanopi Neo. I need to include SWUpdate package in my armbian build. The already built SWUpdate package does not work for me, because I need to disable CONFIG_SIGNED_IMAGES. As far as I understand, I need to rebuild SWUpdate inside the armbian build system. Can you please help me to understand where I should write commands to build SWUpdate from source (git repo), so that armbian build system will put the built binary and libraries into the resulting image?

Hi, I have installed Ubuntu Jammy on my Orange pi 5 plus board a while ago, I was wondering if I could upgrade to the new Noble release of armbian for OPI5 plus without having to reinstall the whole image and without breaking the system, I upgraded the kernel to the latest version with no issues, I just wanted to know the correct and safest way of upgrading the Noble release of Armbian. A few weeks ago I installed the minimal Armbian Bookworm image on a Odroid M1. The installed kernel was 6.6.31 The current minimal version for this board is 24.5.3 with kernel 6.6.36 After running apt update and apt dist-upgrade the kernel updated to version 6.6.32 which was build more then one month ago. I also used armbian-config to update the firmware in hopes that this covers the kernel as well but I am still stuck with the old kernel. What am I doing wrong? And how can I actually update the entire software, including the kernel to the most recent release without manually reinstallig the entire system?

I am wondering if anyone else has had any success getting Armbian installed on a Banana Pi M5. I'm definitely a noob at this. After thinking the first M5 I tried it on was perhaps defective, but after trying on a second M5 I had the same result, board will not boot and the Green, Blue and Red lights on the board are all solid (not blinking). I'm afraid I may have bricked both boards. I used bpi-copy to flash the on-board emmc and did not receive any errors in the process. I am unable to boot from emmc or sd card at this point. I tried flashing the SD Card with Debian Bullseye and then on another attempt Ubuntu server (both images had worked previously) but to no ava…

a Few days ago I started noticing strange behavior with calls failing and pods with valid imag tags not working and finally figured out what seems like armbian stopped trusting any certificates. When I apt update I get errors (certificate something something) When I curl google.com it says invalid certificate and have to use --insecure for it to work. I've run update ca-certifactes -f to try and force it to trust them again but no real idea of what is wrong here.

Hi there, I have been using a nanopi m4v2 for openmediavault for 4 years. In that time my SD card has died once. Now I have ordered an emmc module to do a full clean install of my server. So my questions are, is it wise to boot from the SD card and have the system on the emmc because the sd card can die faster? And if I boot from the SD card and it needs to be replaced, can I just insert a new one and everything will work as before? (With a freshly installed Armbian) If I do a backup of the emmc with win32 disk imager, can I burn the backup to a new emmc with a different sd-card as boot? When I do an armbian install, does it copy the system …

Hi I've got both left and right channels working of my analog audio jack. The quality is quite good as long as Master audio isn't set above volume 15 - 20 or so. Toggling DAC or DAC-Reversed in Alsamixer will enable or disable the physical left and right physical speakers of ear buds. However! On both channels, the left and right software signals are mixed. Hello, I have recently setup Armbian on my Orange Pi Zero 2W for a project I am working on. Everything works great so far but one thing I have noticed is that permissions feel much reduced to my user account. I require sudo to do basically everything from create a file in the home folder to use apt. This feels very different from the feel of the Raspbian install on like a Raspberry Pi. Is there any way I can change the user permissions so I won't have to use sudo for everything? Its been a bigger problem for a project I'm using Clion for where files are synced between my laptop to the pi using SFTP and Rsync but I constantly get errors about unable to create o…

Hey all... Looking to put something a LOT more lightweight than RaspiOS (and not-modern-desktoppy at all, please) on my Pi4Bs. Found out about armbian from the Wikipedia page and downloaded the Jammy CLI image, but I can't get either gitlab or github to talk to me for downloading either of the recommended imagers; gitlab just gives me a blank page (no HTMl at all, per Firefox "view source") and github outright refuses connections. Hey all, New to Armbian, installed to an Orange Pi 5. Installed XRDP - works fine in root (desktop shows) but if I try to do it as a user I just get a black screen with cursor. From searching I can see posts about already being logged in as a user already, and therefore black for privacy but I've not logged in as the user prior? Cant find anything really conclusive explaining how to resolve this Also even in root if I get logged out of desktop (RDP session still active, i.e. desktop lock screen) my root password doesn't work. Password is clearly not wrong

I'm looking forward to buying a BIGTREETECH Pi v1.2 board to use as a slim home server to replace my Orange Pi PC. I read a lot of U Boot documentation the last hours but I still fail at fundamental understanding, like: - where can variables be set? boot.scr obviously, but there is also uEnv.txt boot.cmd armbianEnv.txt ... and in which order and precendence are they parsed? (If I set a variable in different files, which value will be used? first? last? ...) - how is a change made persistent (saveenv does not work) - Can sub-variables be changed, e.g. root in bootargs what I am trying to achieve atm is to change the boot partion rootdev from p1 to p2. Even thou I think I patched the relevant files, printenv shows that bootargs and rootdev are still set to…

Hi there, Since being only a novice in linux, there are some things that are difficult to understand. Like - which configs to update or keep old versions when doing the upgrade. Last time I said N (keep original version) to everything. Really the only things I care about are vnc configs and samba setup. I basically use it as a network drive for backups. Only necessary software is x11vnc and samba. Else I log into it just for updates/restarts. I have tried upgrading my armbian several times. Unfortunately it does not work and I have to restore my sd card backup and start over. I update it making sure all apt updates are done, and then fr…

Hey guys, brand new to linux so sorry for obvious/easy question being obvious/easy I wanted to set up Pi Hole on my new Renegade, but I cannot figure out how to make/find a static ip address. Hi! I'm sorry if the answer to my question is already documented somewhere, but I couldn't find it. I am trying to figure out how to build a specific release. My understanding is that you checkout the desired tag of the armbian/build repo and just build it. However, when I do this with v24.2.1 the image that comes out is named 24.5.0-trunk. Changing the version in the VERSION file (by default set to 24.5.0-trunk) changes the name of the output image, but it is not clear to me if that affects other things than just this. So basically, now I am confused which scenario is correct: Is using the armbian/build tag the correct …

I've got Jammy Minimal running on my EspressoBin v7 from Armbian_23.5.1_Espressobin_jammy_current_5.15.113_minimal. All seems to be working except the NICs do not auto-start with the system. Only lo starts. I have to "ip link set lan0 up" and "dhclient" each time it reboots. My /etc/network/interfaces: source /etc/network/interfaces.d/* # Network is managed by Network manager auto lo iface lo inet loopback auto lan0 allow-hotplug lan0 iface lan0 inet dhcp The NetworkManager.service is running. How do I make lan0 auto start? Thanks

Hello everyone. This is my first post here. My background is software development but not very experienced in the Linux SBC world. So, I have 2x Radxa Zero 3W (not listed on Armbian) with a Rockchip 3566 MCU. And here the questions start... - why don't the Orange Pi 3B or Quartz 64B Armbian images, with the same MCU, don't work on the Radxa Zero 3W ? Aka, shouldn't an OS be portable ? I'm not expecting such of Windows, but I did expect it from Linux - what do the loaders contain exactly ? I have this situation where an older loader seems to boot with Armbian (and then shuts down) but a newer one doesn't... yet the older one doesn't work with the OS from Radxa …

Has anyone managed to get armbian running on the Allwinner T113-s3? I've been looking into getting it running and there's really no alternatives to Tina linux that I can find. Looks like it works with AWBoot and XBoot as a bootloader so it shouldn't be impossible. I'm completely new to this so if anyone knows anything it would be greatly appreciated. 😄

I have Armbian up and running on a Rock Pi S with a PoE HAT. To enable the audio jack on the PoE HAT I had to run the following commands as mentioned on the official Rock Pi S PoE Hat wiki. # echo 15 > /sys/class/gpio/export # echo out > /sys/class/gpio/gpio15/direction # echo 1 > /sys/class/gpio/gpio15/value Once enabled, the audio works as needed. However, every time the device is rebooted I have to SSH in and run these commands again to re-enable audio out which is obviously not ideal. How can I persist these changes between reboots?

Hello. I want to create an image for this Board: Allwinner R528-S3. You can find info about it here. From the docs: It integrates the high-performance dual-core Cortex-A7 and single-core HiFi4 DSP 128 MB DDR3 CPU Architecture Dual-core ARM Cortex-A7 32 KB L1 I-cache + 32 KB L1 D-cache per core, 256 KB L2 cache I just want to know where to start. Where do I start creating a config for this CPU and all that? I already have some info about the device and memory and all that. I just don't know where to start to creating a config. So I can see it in compile.sh program. I just want some general guidance on where to start. I've alrea…

I have followed this guide and I can boot my Orange Pi Zero from SSD without the need for an SD card inserted. I want to keep a bootable backup for my system in case the SSD gets corrupted. I was thinking to clone my system in a USB stick (just like I did to clone from SD to SSD) and then use rsync once a week to keep everything up to date with a script like that. If I go in armbian-config > system > install I can see only one option: "Install/Update the bootloader on SD/eMMC". How could I clone from SSD to a USB stick? Is there a command like `sudo nand-sata-install`?

I was hoping to get some idea if it would be possible to build Armbian for the ODroid OGU (S922X, similar to N2+) using a different Kernel. Specifically, using the version from JelOS (https://github.com/JustEnoughLinuxOS/distribution) who have made really good progress for this specific device. I've been building JelOS and modifying packages etc, but would prefer to use Armbian if possible. Any help appreciated.

I did not find the build for Orange Pi Zero 3 Vice versa I found the build for Orange Pi Zero2 Both SBCs are equipped with Allwinner H6 CPU (H618 for the board Zero 3 and H616 for the board Zero2). Is the build for Orange Pi Zero2 compatible with Orange Pi Zero 3 as well?

Hello, I've started a project where I'd like to setup a Bananapi M5 with two wifi adapters to use in hotel room for example. So one wifi adapter will connect to the hotel wifi, and the other will be in access point mode with dhcp for my devices to connect to. I think the proper terminology is AP-STA. So I have purchased one Comfast CF-953AX which uses the mt7921au chipset (0e8d:7961) to test in access point mode as it supports this: Supported interface modes: * managed * AP * AP/VLAN * monitor * P2P-client * P2P-GO The issue I have come across is the hostapd fails to start: nl80211: Failed to start radar dete…

I've had two Cubietrucks running almost flawlessly for about 10 years on Armbian/Buster and previous versions. I recently decided to install Bookworm using Armbian_23.8.1_Cubietruck_bookworm_current_6.1.47.img.xz. On this I encountered several problems, whose causes I never fully uncovered, but got over them. One of these problems was that neither manual setup nor the use of armbian-config allowed for a lasting configuration of the German keyboard layout, although "Personal Setting" says the opposite (see att. image No.2). It's a pain in the neck, really. All I could filter out is a commandline message that's only visible a second. See the last screenshot with fou…

Hello- Just got my EspressoBin v7, trying to boot to SD using Armbian 23.02 Bullseye. Followed instructions at https://www.armbian.com/espressobin/. I rebooted from the 6.6.16-current-sunxi kernel to the 6.7.4-edge-sunxi on my Orange Pi +2E and it couldn't mount some partitions from a USB stick. These use LVM2, and each partition is encrypted using LUKS2 with a keyfile stored in /etc (yes, I know this is a fig leaf encryption, but it prevents someone from grabbing the USB stick and getting the contents of the drive). This works fine with the older kernel, but fails with the newer kernel. I use the exact same setup on a Rock 64 board, and it works fine, on the 6.7.4-edge-rockchip64 kernel.

Hello fellow Armbian folk, I've been a happy armbian user for many years. Recently, I've been trying to upgrade to bookworm from bullseye on my cubietruck, however have been hampered by Hash Sum mismatch errors from multiple armbian mirrors. I have followed all instructions on clearing the /var/lib/apt/files, apt clean, but nothing seems to help. I've tried multiple armbian mirrors with no luck. So now I'm seeking some community support.

Hi, I am working on a PR[0] to the Armbian build framework. As suggested in the PR, I am trying to use the upstream U-Boot source and apply the required patches[1][2] on top of it. One of the patch series[2] requires a git subtree[3] to be added to the U-Boot source before applying the patch itself. However, it seems that Armbian's build framework first attempts to apply the required patches[4] on the U-Boot source and then calls the pre_config_uboot_target hook[5]. Currently, I've put the code to add the git subtree in the pre_config_uboot_target hook. As a result, the required patch series are not getting applied. Is there any way in which we can co…

Hello, I'm trying to install Armbian using `armbian-install` on NVMe, with bootloader on eMMC. I have installed 64GB Foresee eMMC module and 256GB WD SN530 2242 SSD. When I boot from SD card, both storages are detected. Using fdisk, I made them both `dos` (mbr) partitioned. Then I invoke `armbian-install`, it proceeds without any problems using eMMC+sata/nvme/usb option, and I have now 512 MB boot partition on eMMC, the rest of eMMC space as secondary, f2fs partition, and ext4 partition nvme0n1p1 containing the rest of the system. I power the system off, take the SD card out, and boot again.. and I'm stuck in initramfs. From it, I can mount the nvme0n1p1 m…

I recently purchased an Orange Pi 5 Plus and installed Armbian. It shuts down about every ten minutes. Strangely, when it is streaming video over HDMI it does not shutdown. So it can stream movies for up to three hours without shutting down. But if I am not streaming, for example if I am SSH into the device, it will shutdown after about ten minutes and I get booted out. I disabled system suspend in `settings > Power settings` but this did not help. I also just replaced the power supply with a 4 amp power supply (up from 3.5 amp) but this did not help at all. I also looked around 'armbian-config' but I did not notice any settings that could be the issue. …

Suddenly after updating via armbian-config I lost ssh access and found the port closed. I rewrote the latest armbian version, stuck the sd card in, connected to ethernet cable via router and started up. The red and green lights were on as they should be and the internet cable was flashing green. Waited 3 minutes and checked the ports with nmap. And the port is closed again. Not responding to ping at all. I am still new to this topic. Please help and sorry if the translator translates crookedly.

I also try check proper adduser command logging into the system during build and I also find my home/$user catalogs but on the built image home folder is empty. Have you any suggestion or solution to fix that issue ?

I have done a firmware update on my Compulab Utilite Pro using u-boot compiled from source. However something went wrong, leaving me with a bricked board. In the manual it is mentioned, that the iMX6 has 2 boot-modes. The recovery-mode can be configured by switching some pin to a high-level. On the PCB I can not find any jumper, that allows me to do so. Question: Does anybody know how to switch the Compulab Utilite Pro to the recovery-mode? Thanks in advance

Hi, I'm new to Armbian and this is my first time ever compiling any Linux system. I'm sorry to bother you with such a basic question, but I just don't understand. I want to enable a kernel module. Upon browsing the kernel configuration utility menus, I don't see this functionality anywhere. But if I run search with '/', I find this, this is the module I want: How do I now proceed to enable it? Or make sure that it's enabled (if present by default)? Also, what's the meaning of =y and =m? It's listed in the resulting .config file as =y, just as the search shows.
