Hello everyone, I recently installed my orangePi 5 to pass workload from my x86 servers over to the orangePi. My main focus is to reduce my overall energy consumption of my homelab. TL;DR Kernel thinks, that while being idle the sweet spot for the frequencies in "ondemand" and "schedutil" is: 1024MHz on the small chips (CPU0-3) 816MHZ on the big chips (CPU4+5, CPU6+7) Reason is an internal cost calculation power vs. frequency gain, which sorts out the lower frequencies. Long story: After getting my first orangePi5 in place, I started to play around with the hardware. I am running: █ █ █ █ █ █ █ █ █…

It would be nice to be able to use hardware crypto for VPNs. The rockchip's hardware crypto acceleration has apparently been supported since Kernel 4.5. I noticed that the CONFIG_CRYPTO_DEV_ROCKCHIP option hadn't been compiled into the standard Armbian builds, so I built a custom kernel. Having the rk_crypto module loaded gives me additional ciphers in /proc/crypto as expected. Without the module loaded (either blacklisted with my build, or with the normal Armbian kernel), my tunnel (IKEv2/IPSEC w Strongswan) works fine. But with the module installed, no traffic passes. Sometimes I see kernel errors in syslog. A couple of tim…

I followed a guide to install a system on my Rockpro64 but something happened where I had to reinstall it. However, when I reflashed the ubuntu server image and tried re-installing the system it got an error pertaining to one of my disk volumes. So I'm wondering how to re-format and remount and redo the LVM volume my SSD. Any help or tips would be greatly appreciated!

Hello everyone Just would like to start a discussion about the current state of video acceleration (decoding only, h.265/h.264/av1). The soc (rk3588) recently got mainline support for these features in 7.0: https://gitlab.collabora.com/hardware-enablement/rockchip-3588/notes-for-rockchip-3588/-/blob/main/mainline-status.md Has anyone tested this on a OPI5 already, especially using Kodi? Does this work ootb there now? Regards, XXXBold

I put a TinkerBoard in a Pi-Top CEED and using TinkerOS 2.0.8 it boots and the LCD works fine. Using Armbian it looks like it boots but nothing is displayed on the LCD. The Pi-Top CEED uses a HDMI to 30-pin converter board and the current LCD is a 1920x1080 14in that I used to upgrade the original. Any ideas why the Raspberry running Raspbian and The Tinkerboard running TinkerOS would work with the display but Armbian wouldn’t?

Hello OPI5 users. Running Joshua Riek's Ubuntu distro, I keep getting stability issues. Perhaps because I keep using Xorg. Perhaps because hardware acceleration is buggy. In the past I used super stable Armbian OPI5 distro's without hardware acceleration. Infact I still use Armbian on another RK3588 box, I don't think it has EVER crashed, running docker, Mosquito, HomeAssistant, and a buch of other things. Now that my Orange Pi 5 gets a slightly more serious use as webserver, I really like to get rid of the unpredictable Xorg crashes, and gladly would sacrifice HW acceleration for stability. My situation is this: Using JR Ubuntu Because I …

Just got my new tinkerboard powered up with armbian. For some reason I could not get anything after build 1.3 off the Asus site to boot! Anway, first impressions good, however in the graphics settings it seems to max out at 1920 x 1080 whilst on paper the tinkerboard is supposed to support 4k. I'll admit I am new to linux so perhaps i'm missing something ovbious, but if someone could explain how I can up the resolution to 3,840 x 2,160 that would be great. For the avoidance of doubt I have it connected to an Acer 27" 4k monitor.

Hello all, I am running an Orange Pi 5 board with Armbian on a SD Card and I realized that my /var/log path is constantly full, with it being at /dev/zram1 It gets full at 50Mb with the file /var/log/samba/cores/smbd/core taking up all the space I have not managed to read this file, so I can't tell what kinds of errors are showing up. My OpenMediaVault and samba setup are running perfectly fine, and even though I delete this core file, it shows up again during reboot. I have tried to set enable core files = no in smb.conf With no sucess. The file continues to show up during reboot. Any ideas how to solve this? …

None of the images from https://www.armbian.com/rockpi-s/ work (neither minimal nor cli). I tried writing minimal image onto SD NAND and tried booting both cli and minimal from SD card. I tried 2 different SD cards too. Board was connected through UART0 to PC and while I get output when I use rkdeveloptool, there is no output when trying to boot normally. However, latest image from https://github.com/radxa/rock-pi-s-images-released/releases works (rockpis_debian_buster_server_arm64_20210924_0412-gpt.img) does boot if I write it to SD NAND or SD card. I have V1.3 with RK3308 and 1GB SD NAND.

I've got jammy running but I have a dsi display for the board and I'd like that to work (well the tp port too) with jammy. Looking at armbian config I see no setting for it. I know the display works fine as if I load an aryufan android image it works as it is set to use DSI by default. Does this kernel know about the DSI port? Do I have to build a custom kernel? If not then what boot env line will get it going?

Hello, Some weeks ago, I installed the kinetic version. It was rooted on the nvme drive and was working decently. After some explanations on this forum, I decided to install the LTS version. I burned a new SD card, inserted it and powered on. I was never prompt about where to install the system. After installation, the df command shows that the system is installed on the sd card. I can see nvme partitions in /dev but they aren't mounted. nvme is partitionned in two parts : one for the system, the other one is crypted and dedicated to data. How should I do? Thanks Julien

I have an Orange Pi 5 (16GB RAM) running Armbian Jammy with the latest updates installed. I am booting from NVMe and when it boots successfully it runs flawlessly without issue. The problem occurs when I reboot -- the majority of the time it does not boot up successfully. Sometimes when it boots I only see the red light (and no green light), and other times I will see the green light flash like normal, yet the external hard drive does not spin up or mount properly. This results in me needing to power down the Orange Pi 5 and try again. Eventually it will boot up successfully (along with the external HDD) and then everything is good; that is, until the next time I have to …

Can anyone provide a link to a currently available and confirmed working USB to 3.3V TTL converter that works at 1500000 bps? The PL2303 I have technically supports up to 3 Mbps but only in certain discrete steps, and 1500000 is not one of those steps. The MCP2221A only supports up to 460800 bps. The FTDI FT232 data sheet claims support up to 3 Mbps but is unclear about whether arbitrary baud rates are supported, or only discrete steps like the PL2303. Searching for a compatible USB-TTL cable to work with the RK3399 has been futile so far. A link to a confirmed working cable would be much appreciated. Confirmed working cables only. No theoretical devices, please.

Hey, I’m running armbian on a tinkerboard and I need to connect to a CAN-bus. Apparently the usual Linux CAN-kernel-modules aren’t shipped with armbian, so I guess I’ll have to add them manually somehow. I`ve been trying to do that for two days now without any luck. I’ve been trying to follow the steps described in other forums, but it haven’t helped. I really just want to add the necessary modules to my existing kernel. Any ideas?

I try to understand the usage of Tinkerboard for Industrial Application usage, we have below questions. 1. Operating temperature is between 0-60 C [as many Industrial PLCs recommend 0-55 C only] 2. Long Term Supply of the Boards 3. In the original PR for Orange PI 5 I recall someone mentioned that the Jammy had somekind of glitch with USB on the OPI5 but is that still the case? From the threads here, it looks like the distribution has many patches and fixes. Is Bullseye the recommended distribution?

Hello, sorry if this has been answered somewhere else. I was just wondering how i upgrade my Orange Pi 5 running Arbmian 23.11.1 Bookworm w/ Linux 5.10.160-legacy-rk35xx to the latest Kernel. Hello, After NanoPi R4S reboot, ethernet interface `enp1s0` disappeared. I tried soft reboot for several times but failed. If I shutdown the board and power plug out/in again, then `enp1s0` appears. I tested it several times and 100% same results. Any idea please? wg* is for vpn. please ignore them.

Hi, On the download page of Tinker board "Ethernet driver needs some fixing" is listed as known issue. Are there any details about? What is the problem with the ethernet? Who should fix it? (Asus, armbian) Are there any plans for fixing it? I'm asking it, because I would like to use my tinker board as a headless 24/7 home cloud. Thank you!

Hi Basically the subj sums it up. I got the AP6275P wireless module with Armbian, and BT is not functional. `hcitool dev` doesn't show the device in its output. Neither does `rfkill`. It works with the Ubuntu image published by Orange Pi though, so it doesn't look like a hardware issue. I'm using Armbian 23.5 Jammy Gnome with the 5.10.160 kernel. Happy to provide any additional data.

Hi. I have RockPi E v1.21 and I found, that I'm not able to boot image with new kernel 6.12 (tried minimal images 25.2.1 and 24.11.1, USBImager and Balena Etcher, 3 SD cards, different power supplies). With image 24.8.3 it boots normally. Also I found, that after upgrading 24.8.3 to kernel 6.12 the RockPi boots, but Ethernet doesn't work (even LEDs are dead). Another thing which I notice is, that I didn't find any option to disable kernel upgrades, but what I googled, it should be present in armbian-config->system->kernel->Y203. But this Y203 option is missing. Here is successful boot log of 24.8.3: https://paste.armbian.com/ixuvimofis.sql …

This is a last-ditch effort to figure out how we can continue to build our project on top of Armbian. Goal We are building an appliance on the RockPro64 board, with eMMC and an PCIe SSD attached, using a custom-built Armbian Ubuntu 18.04 image with extensive post-configuration (packages, appliacations, overlayroot...) within the boot process. The image is then processed by Mender to create a true dual-root filesystem over-the-air update system with fallback (we invested a lot of resources to extend Mender for Armbian and RockPro64). This build process works perfectly and is exactly what we need. Issue The reliability, however, is bad. In …

I compiled Armbian Rock-5c bookworm vendor 6.1.99 minimal. WiFi driver extension radxa-aic8800.sh breaks Rock 5C vendor (kernel 6.1.99) boot. I compiled without the extension to confirm. The radxa-aic8800 driver has recently been modified in the download source. I modified radxa-aic8800.sh to download the previous driver version "3.0+git20240327.3561b08f-2" and this does not fix the issue. Ref: Jira AR-2603 Logs attached. I also did install the firmware files but I don't see the module in the /usr/lib/module section. Any suggestions to build or enable this driver? Thanks

Hello! First, and foremost, how issue looks like: https://imgur.com/a/ZrPUi9t Initially I noticed this issue with Dell UP3017 (2560x1600) on Libre Computer ROC-RK3399-PC (post). However later I noticed this on fresh Armbian installations on NanoPC-T4 too (post). Later on I found that old Armbian installations on NanoPC-T4 is unaffected, probably because of older uboot (something from last Armbian 5.xx days) that already flashed on eMMC. Yesterday I compared a couple of old Armbian images (initially that was posted here) Armbian_20.05.7_Nanopct4_focal_current_5.4.49.img - issue is not reproducible, Armbian_20.08.2_Nanopct4_focal_current_5.8.6.img …

Hi! I just booted Armbian_20.08_Rockpro64_focal_current_5.7.15.img via sdcard , but HDMI output seems to stop after "Starting Kernel". Just after that I see some yellow/black vertical lines on my monitor and then the screen goes black, no more HDMI input on the monitor. Logging into Armbian on the RockPRO then works fine via ssh, can do the setup, update etc. So it looks like a problem with HDMI output? Anyone ideas how to solve this? Would like to have console terminal access via HDMI as last resort Thanks in advance! p.s. Just tried the Armbian_20.08_Rockpro64_focal_current_5.7.15_desktop which seems to have t…

However, my previously supported WiFi adapter is not recognized in this version - it worked with the vendor (5.10) kernel which I used with last year's OrangePi5 image, but how it seems the driver is not installed with 6.10. The WiFi adapter is connected via USB and it's listed as Realtek Semiconductor Corp. RTL8812AU 802.11a/b/g/n/ac 2T2R DB WLAN Adapter. Now, there are a few DKMS/out-of-tree drivers that I could inst…

Hello everyone, I have a problem with my NanoPi R4S. The WAN (eth0) port does not work well when it is configured to work on 1Gbps/Full. When this setting is active there is about 15% packet loss, which is quite annoying. In my tests I have already been able to identify that if I configure the port to work at 100Mbps/Full everything works normally. So I found the forum-post below, that explain that some u-Boot version wasn't setting the correct clock configuration for the netwok device at boot time, but now I have installed the linux-u-boot-nanopi-r4s-edge 22.08.6 and linux-image-edge-rockchip64 22.08.8 but the problem still there. Hi all, recently I installed the Mali GPU Drivers from the instructions on the official Armbian website. I have Armbian 23.02.2 Jammy installed, with KDE Plasma desktop. I found two problems: 1. The mouse flickers when I move it. This happens on both XFCE and Plasma (X11) 2. Every once in a while, the Plasma panels freeze and I have to reboot my OPI to get it to work. This also happens if I right-click on it and press "Enter Edit Mode". If I don't do that, it freezes randomly (afaik). This affects both the panels and the background (panels don't update, can't interact, cannot right-click). Does anyone know of any solutions to this? Thanks!

Has anyone played with kvm or xen on the hw-virt capable rockchip devices? Im trying to setup a simple kvm scenario. Hello, I've recently bought a rock 5B plus. I have a brand new crucial P310 nvme 1TB with the goal to boot from it. As the title says, sometimes the nvme drive is properly detected, sometimes not. I'm using Armbian on a Tinker Board S. I did the installation back when the 4.4 kernel was still the default one. I expected that I'd get the newer 4.19 kernel by using 'apt update && apt dist-upgrade' at some point as it would become the new stable. This does not seem to be the case however, as I see the new downloads use 4.19 by default, but the stable package still points to a 4.4 kernel. Is it recommended to just move up by installing the kernel package with the next suffix or are there still reasons to wait with upgrading?

Hi all Cannot make usable wol on my orange pi 5 plus. Os: Armbian 24.5.1 Bookworm with Linux 6.1.75-vendor-rk35xx WOL tested in magic or unicast settings or all flags enabled (phy, unicast, multicast, broadcast, arp, magic) Test sending wol packets with running tcpdump -i enP3p49s0 '(udp and port 7) or (udp and port 9)' show that orange pi successfully receive wol packets on speeds 1000 or even 10 mbps while powered on. But after sending orange pi to suspend or power off I cannot bring it online via WOL. So I suppose network component outside orange pi is ok and it is something wrong with orange pi. Any ideas?

Hello, using the image provided at https://www.armbian.com/rockpro64/ the board works when booted via uSD card but not via MMC. There appears to be no device mode USB drivers installed. I pulled the kernel sources with `armbian-config` and compiled them myself making sure to select dual-mode support for the DWC2 and DWC3 drivers. The kernel boots after install, but I still see nothing in /sys/class/udc and am unable to see any dwc2/3 drivers (save dwc2_pci and some dwc3 i3c drivers). I'm able to load libcomposite, the configfs driver, but that does not pull in a USB device mode driver. I'm unable to attach armbian monitor status right now but will update my po…

Hello Armbian community, I am writing this topic because, despite the drivers for the processor's integrated GPU are installed within the operating system, they do not seem to work properly. Precisely the system seems to work but as soon as I try to play a video it is played by the CPU and not by the GPU with lag and the CPU is at 100%. I leave the link and the attachment of the result of the armbianmonitor -U command that I posted here: https://paste.debian.net/1337993/ it is a compressed tar.gz file since I included all the results of the command Analysis.txt

I have some problem starting Linux image with my OPi 5+. I just got an OPi 5+ 16Gb RAM no eMMC. I flashed official Android image into SD card with SDDiskTool following the instruction in wiki. It worked. Then I do the "Data Reset" in Android Settings. The board doesn't boot anymore. I re-flashed Android into the SD, and it worked again. Then, I want to try Linux. I flashed Joshua Riek ubuntu-22.04.3-preinstalled-desktop-arm64-orangepi-5-plus.img.xz into the same SD with balenaEtcher. It doesn't boot. I tried again with Armbian_24.2.1_Orangepi5_jammy_legacy_5.10.160_gnome-amazingfated_desktop.img.xz and official Ubuntu image as well. None of them ma…

Hello, i will move my project from RPI2 to tinkerboard. I have 2 Serial Converter, USB to RS422 and USB to RS485, both working on the PI. On the Tinkerboard with "ARMBIAN 5.33 stable Ubuntu 16.04.3 LTS 4.13.3-rockchip" runs only the RS422, the RS485 (Vendor 1a86) is not available as /dev/ttyUSB. What can i do? Hi. I have Rock Pi S0 boards that I install in an enclosure. It works, but it is conceivable that some critical bug or change with the image is discovered in the future so that customers later need to flash a new image to the emmc. But for them to do this, they would have to open the enclosure and locate the maskrom button, very inconvenient. Is there a way to trigger rebooting into maskrom from software instead of pushing the button? Apparently this is possible on the official radxa OS image by running command "reboot loader" instead of just "reboot", but not on armbian it seems. After investigating I see linux patches made by the rockchip team for kernel modu…
